I saw this on TikTok and the food looked so good that I had to try. Mariscos El Submarino have several locations in NYC and this is one of their original ones in Queens. All their locations have pretty good ratings so I can't really go wrong. Came around 11am on a weekend and it was busy but there were tables available. The tables are arranged pretty strategically to fit as many as possible, which isn't the best for comfort. The service is nice here. The menu is in Spanish but they do have an English menu if you scan a QR code. I ordered the craken taco, costra taco, verde aguachile mixtos, a half dozen grilled shrimps, a la exotica, and guac with fried octopus. Everything was delicious! This place did not disappoint. Although, next time I'd probably skip the Craken taco and verde aguachile even though these two are a top recommendation. My favorite dish was probably the grilled shrimp. The way they grill it really brings out the sweetness and flavor of the shrimp. I personally enjoyed the la exotica more than the aguachile. The guac was also really good and the fried octopus was a good addition. I will definitely go to their other locations. This is a must try for seafood lovers. read more

Position are a bit small for a whole in the wall like this and prices are high especially on the tacos but that's because the quality seems really good and fresh and effort put into it. Came here on a Friday night and was seated immediately, but the place was busy! By the time we left, there was a line waiting to be seated. The menu is entirely in Spanish but the waiters can help if needed. We ordered the Gobernador taco, a half dozen shrimp, the regular guacamole and the aguachiles verdes. The Gobernador was a large size - really more like a mini quesadilla than a taco in my mind. It was flavorful and filled with seafood. The half dozen shrimp were cooked well, but a little hard and messy to peel. The guac was good, a little oily but tasty. The aguachiles were really good but borderline too spicy for me. The spice continued to build as I ate them and it did feel less enjoyable but it was good to start. My main grievance with this restaurant was how loud it was. I was yelling and struggling to hear what my friend or the waiter said, but the food was delicious. Haven't been here in a while so we decided to have dinner here since we were in the area. No line on a Tuesday night, lots of tables available. We ordered The Craken, submarino ceviche, a dozen grilled shrimps, and a tequila margarita. Food came pretty quick...I thought the Craken would've had a slightly bigger piece of octopus but it was cooked well. Buttery, very tasty. The ceviche tasted less sour than we recalled which we preferred. We added some hot sauce for added heat. The shrimps were a lil more charred than pictured but still good. Margarita was okay. I got takeout from here and I think this place is pretty good value for price in terms of seafood. The peel off seared shrimps were very delicious and tender and naturally sweet. Gave Mariscos El Submarino another try after 9 months. Since we only had the aguachile last time and didn't try any of the other options, it felt like I missed a huge chunk of the menu. I have had a number of really great aguachiles since then so it was time to compare it to the rest. We decided to try a little bit of everything! We ordered grilled prawns, shrimp and cheese taco, steak taco, octopus taco, and guacamole with fried octopus. The tacos were very good especially the steak tacos! Each taco had melted cheese in the center which made each bite soft and squishy. The grilled prawns were smoky and half a dozen was perfect for 2 people. The verde aguachile mixtos tasted more refined than our original experience and they've now added cooked shrimp along with raw shrimp, fish, and cooked octopus. There's definitely a lot of seafood so the value was absolutely there with chunks of cucumber, onion and avocado. I get it now! read more

Worth the line outside! Staff are very kind and food comes out fast. Loved my Agua de Tamarindo, refreshing, light and tangy. What an absolutely incredible experience here. We waited in line for about 15-20 mins before we got seated, once we were seated our server Andrew was very polite and recommended a bunch of different items to try since this was our first time here. We got two different we got two diff mixtos, the craken tacos, the la cosentida tostada, and steak tacos. Oh we also got a dozen of their shrimp. Everything was absolutely incredible. I went on a Friday evening and it was pretty full upon arrival, we waited outside for about 5-10 mins before we got a table. I was so excited to order because I've been hearing such amazing things about this spot so I ordered a few different things to try. What really stood out to me was the freshness. Everything was amazing and you could tell that it was made with love. My absolute favorites were the Aguachilles, the oysters and the Vaso Chelada a beer with lemon and salt. This is probably my favorite Mexican seafood I've had! I walked past this place in Jackson Heights a few weeks ago and it caught my eyes so I've wanted to come here since. I came here a bit past 9 pm and even then it took about 40 mins to get in. Once in, I had their El Gobernado taco, craken taco, and fish taco. I came here with my friend on Saturday and had a good time. They were really busy, there was even a line outside. We waited on the line for about 15-25 minutes. I'm not sure if the aguachile was worth the wait for me, however the pulpo taco definitely was! I found the aguachile to be too bitter, not enough flavor. Fish taco is perfect size, but there's like no seasoning on the fish so it desperately needs some sauce Aguachile (green in bowl) had lots of chunks of seafood. They're unique in terms of the food they specialize in- Mexican raw (cured in citrus juice) seafood. My favorite is the aguachiles mixtos negro from cold menu items. It's quite spicy, zesty and chock full of mixed seafood like fish, oyster, shrimp and octopus. For hot foods I enjoy their tacos. The fish taco is definitely best enjoyed fresh since it's battered and fried. I really enjoyed their one with beef and cheese- I can't remember the name. So worth the hike!! I've been wanting to try for a few months and then it got viral on TikTok and there were lines. We came on a weekday during the afternoon and there were no lines. Mariscos el Submarino is one of those rare finds that is worth the social media hype. Fun, tasty, and affordable... too affordable. My party and I picked up an online order at 7pm on a Saturday and it was paaaaacked! The line was around the nearest corner. We went inside to pick up the food and although spacious, it's a fucking vibe, so you know people were chillin'. That line could easily be a 3 hour wait. Note: This could be a response to being a day with great weather on a summer and the fact that their other location in Greenpoint burned down, so they were getting increased foot traffic from their other customers. Whatever you decide to do, just be prepared. Bring a book or write that long confession to your ex on how you still love her/him/it/their pet that you miss. Anywho, their flavors are not playing. Unless "playing" means S&M with my bootyhole at 2am, then yes. I generally have a sensitive stomach but I had to wake up twice one night to exorcise some demons. Would I do it again? Hell yeah! (Pun actually not intended). I know the rojo aguachile is the most popular and recommended item, but green is where it's at. And by "where it's at", I mean my bootyhole (ok I'll stop). But no, the rojo is what we'd consider the beginner course or the introductory aguachile for those unfamiliar. But the verde aguachile is the one that combines into a spicy herbal flavor to deliver heated punch. By the end of it, my friends and I were using the sauce as dip for all their handheld items. Pro tip: save the sauce and use it at home. I just cook some shrimp and use up the rest. For tacos, the gobernador and the kraken are the most recommended. My party favored the gobernador more because it's essentially a cheese and shrimp taco (really hard to not like that) but I think it could've used a kick, like a pepper for contrast. I slightly favored the kraken more (grilled octopus in cheese) but I don't know. Maybe because I look for a strong charred octopus flavor and that gets lost in the taco. Maybe it's the ramblings of boy who grew up by the sea. But either way I'm making my way downtown to try their other items in person, cause every table had beers and it looked lit (gen alpha can fight me for using this). We really liked the craken, el rey NY Steak taco, and the ceviche. Everything else didn't really have any seasoning (which is why the table has 10 different bottles of hot sauce).
