This was my first visit to Tibet's Jinten, and I came with a friend--what an amazing experience we had! Warm Welcome: The peaceful and inviting atmosphere made us feel comfortable from the moment we walked in. Tsering's Kindness: The owner, Tsering, was incredibly compassionate and understanding. He offered me a complimentary sound healing singing bowl session and a cleansing ceremony, which left me feeling truly refreshed and cared for. While only I received the sound healing, Tsering generously offered to cleanse every item we purchased--including gifts and personal pieces--sharing his good intentions for each of us through this thoughtful ritual. The shop is filled with authentic, beautiful items. I went home with a gorgeous wooden Buddha for my home, a bracelet and stunning crossbody cotton bag & amazing incense for myself, a protection ring as a gift for my friend, Each piece feels more meaningful after its special cleansing. A Truly Unique Store, If I had all the money in the world,I would buy the entire store! every item is authentic, carefully selected, and radiates positive energy. I had the most beautiful experience at Tibets Jinten today. Tsering is thoughtful and kind, and it is clear that his collection is carefully curated. I bought a gorgeous meditation shawl, hemp backpack, incense (got one for free), om mani padme hum ring and jumpsuit. When I was checking out, Tsering noticed my cane and offered to give me a free sound healing bath. He has no idea how much I needed that today. It was healing both mentally and physically. There is so much at this store I don't even know where to begin. From tops, & bags to gloves & incense, there is probably something you can find for just about anybody. This is an awesome little shop. I've bought several tapestry style bedspreads here and they all look great and really brighten up my room. They also sell some very cool handbags here as well as plenty of jewelry. They have a good sized selection of clothing here as well and I've bought about 4 or 5 dresses from India here. You can get some good deals on the clothing here. They usually have a rack of discounted clothing outside the store right near the entrance and sometimes they even run a deal on their clothing racks inside the store where you can get a percentage off. I always make it a point to get to this shop whenever I'm in Harvard Square. read more

Love the place! I always trying to visit the store when in Boston/Cambridge area. It has amazing atmosphere inside and the staff is very helpful, polite and always smiling! Such an eclectic offering of authentic Tibetan handcrafted goods here! One day they made a singing bowls sound bath for me and my friend and that was amazing. There's quite a few Tibetan shops in Boston. This is by far the best one. Biggest selection. Not over-priced or a tourist trap. And the owner is a really nice dude. My only complaint is that I wish they were open later on the weekends. read more

This is a great little Tibetan and Buddhist shop within walking distance of Harvard Divinity School carrying a variety of ritual items, devotional art, music, clothing, tapestries, malas, jewelery and other adornments. I came in here for the first time after getting caught in the first snowfall of winter with out a hat, mittens or scarf. Not only did Tibet's Jinten have inexpensive winter accessories and shawls, they were beautiful and very well made. The current management is very friendly, human, helpful and good humored. I couldn't recommend them more. read more

(NB: I'm porting my old review from the "Little Tibet" page: the owner PMed me to let me know of the name change, and it says something about the quality of the new management that I never noticed.) I've been patronizing Little Tibet for many years now. Heck, when I was in the Boston area, I'd sometimes come in just to have the incense in my lungs and to hear the Tibetan CDs that would usually be playing, and feel the blare of the city melt away. The shop isn't large, but it's stuffed to the rafters with Buddhist wares, jewelry, clothing, fabrics, scarves, knickknacks, CDs, incense and memorabilia. The prices on all of these are reasonable -- especially to those of us with slim wallets -- and I can look from where I'm sitting at singing bowls, wall hangings and other items I bought there. I've also had fine service. There are discount items as well ... if you'll look at the storefront photo Jessica R. posted, you'll see a rack of clothing outside. That's almost always there, and has a selection of long cotton print skirts for very cheap -- $10 a piece, generally, when there isn't an outright sale. My wife loves that style and bought a dozen or more over the years, wearing them into the ground. Alas, I live a hundred miles away now ... but when I was in Boston to perform in a concert in November 2013, I clawed away an hour to get out to this store, where I purchased some Christmas presents for my lady wife. I don't give out many 5-stars, but I really can't think of anything about this shop I don't like. Long live Tibet's Jinten! read more

The owner was super nice and friendly. The store offered a lot of items all from different places and he explained where the items were from. The store offered a variety of items: necklaces, rings, bracelets, handmade coin purses, incense, sunglasses, purses, bags, keychains, signs, buddhas, carved animals, dresses, and more. The owner gifted my friend and me a pair of matching earrings after hearing we were friends for seven years. His shop was a treasure find in Harvard Square! read more

This store is a hidden gem in Harvard Square! When I used to live in Boston I would frequently shop here. Since I've moved across the country I haven't had the pleasure of shopping at this store in years. Last week, while I was in town visiting, I came to Tibets Jinten looking for a Singing Bowl to gift for my brothers birthday. I was immediately greeted by Tsering upon entering the store. I explained to him what I was looking for and he began helping me find the perfect Singing Bowl for my brother. He picked the most beautiful bowls within the given price range and really took the time to explain the origin of each bowl, the sounds that they make, and the materials they're made out of. I was amazed at how patient and knowledgeable he is!! After choosing a bowl I bought some accessories to go with it, and wandered about the store. Tibets Jinten has a selection of stunning prayer beads, prayer flags, shawls, hand made clothing, incense, assortments of bangles and so much more. You can really find it all here! Oh and best part I got a Sound Healing session and Singing Bowl Massage. I highly recommend booking one with Tsering!! I haven't felt that relaxed in months! Wonderful store with high quality unique items. I happened on the store quite by accident. I'd been looking at fair trade Nepal-made dresses on Eb-- but had yet to buy one. I was driving by the store; saw the rack of clothes displayed outside the store while on my way out of town. I stopped to look & am glad I did. I ended up with a dress that was more beautiful than those I'd seen on line at a price that was better. The dress has now been worn and washed many times and looks as good as it did the first time I wore it. The store has a wide array of items-clothes, jewelry, gifts (etc) all arranged in such a way as to be visible yet still allow customers to easily move about the store. The merchandise is beautiful and well made-inexpensive but not cheap stuff. The proprietor was very helpful. Once I had selected a dress I liked she bought out others (I assume from storage) that were similar but slightly different. As it happened, she had a slightly shorter dress that was really perfect for me. She was helpful and delightful. My only regret is that I did not buy more. I love this shop, its one of those that I almost want to avoid because I love everything in the store and want to buy it all. I went in there a few months ago for the first time and got these really cool pants for only $30 that are loose and comfy and have really cool stitching on them, but they will also look professional for my line of work. I went back in the other day and it reminded me how much I like the place. They've got books and CDs, wall hangings, prayer flags, jewelry, everything. And the people who work there/ own it are very nice. Often in little shops like this the people are just all over you and it can be off-putting, but at Tibets Jinten they leave you alone to browse but are extremely helpful and friendly if you have a question. I went in for jewelry and I came out successful. After browsing through the beautiful selection of clothing and scarves for a bit, I finally made my way to the colorful necklaces and bracelets. I have shopped there for many many years and love this place. However today ( 3/21/09 ) when I told the young man there I wanted to try an assortment of shirts, his eyes quickly assessed the number of items ( 6 ) , he looked at his watch and said " You're going to try ALL of these ? It's been along day and we're getting ready to close ". It was 4:40 pm. Closing time was 5pm. I almost walked out but I literally NEEDED the shirt. This is not appropriate Retail behavior. I hope the young man in question - or the owners of Little Tibet read this. What he should have said ( with a smile ) was " Please try them on but be aware that we will be closing in 20 minutes ". Is the business doing that well that they can discourage a $35 purchase ? THESE days ? read more

This store is amazing and I go in there every time I visit Harvard Square! The workers are so sweet and will help you with anything! Also, the pashminas are incredibly beautiful and reasonably priced. I buy one every time I visit, and they are usually only $10 or $15. There is also a huge sale section outside of the store with gorgeous clothing. It is just an adorable, cozy, small Tibetan store that I always love visiting and would recommend to anyone. read more

The merchandise was beautiful! There was a wide range of high quality clothing, jewelry, flags, devotional items, etc. Both well made and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is also near other great local stores and restaurants. But what really made me like this store is the customer service I not only received, but witnessed others receiving. I watched how helpful and courteous the cashier was two customers before me, and when it was my turn I was greeted with a smile, and genuine help with finding my item. He even made me a good deal. I could tell this man truly loved his job, and I got a really strong sense of warmth and hospitality. This was my very first experience of the Boston area (went to this store right after hopping off the bus!) and it was a very good one! Great products, great service, great location! I had the worst retail experience here of any store I've gone to in Cambridge, and experienced the kind of crude ethnic stereotyping you would hope wouldn't exist here and that shouldn't be tolerated anywhere. I had bought a dress here for my wife's birthday, and it turned out not to fit her. The gentleman behind the counter had told me at the time of purchase that items could be exchanged for store credit, but not returned. When we brought the dress back a few months later, still with the tags on and in brand-new condition, he reneged on this and initially told my wife they couldn't exchange it, but when I showed up said that they would if we brought back the receipt. We searched at home for the receipt, found it and brought it back two days later to exchange the dress. At this point the gentleman - and I use that term loosely - complained about the condition of the dress, which he had seen two days earlier and hadn't said a word about, accused us of lying about the purchase date of the dress even though we had the receipt with us clearly stating when I had bought it, and to top it all off, said "I know you Indians, what you're like." (My wife and I are both ethnic Indians.) At this point we walked out, after pointing out that we only had come back because he indicated that if we brought the receipt with us that he would be happy to exchange the dress. Rudeness, lies, and bigotry. If you enjoy them, this is the store for you. I thought it was a cute little store too, before this incident, and I can understand a disagreement about store policy and even some surliness, but that was a bridge too far. Inappropriate retail behavior, and inappropriate human behavior. I do hope ownership reads this if they care about what goes on in their store. read more
