Maybe they were just having a bad weekend? Maybe not. We went on Friday night to check out the new Chef. We came in and saw there was a large wedding party. We knew this would mean service might be slow. We were correct on that. The food was OK, but there were several warning flags that we should have paid closer attention to: My son ordered shrimp fettuccine and the shrimp was wired. A bit rubbery and just not quite right. I had a Mahi sandwich which was ok. The fish was good, but the sauce seemed old and didn't taste quite right. I ended up taking the sandwich apart and just eating the fish. Both soups ordered were served only slightly warm. (A crab soup and NE clam chowder.) We ended up going back to Tidewater the following Sunday with friends for their Brunch. Everything was bad! The service was slow. Worse than the previousFriday when they had a wedding. Everything we ordered was bad: The Brunch Burger came disassembled with veggies on the side. The lettuce, tomato and pickles looked like they had been thoroughly cooked! Nasty! The bottom bun was soaked with grease. The burger was under cooked. I am paying for eating that today!!!! My wife ordered a waffle. It was dry and cold. The banana topping was... I don't know how to describe it. It was like they weren't even bananas! Same for my son's pancakes. They were banana foster pancake. There were maybe 4 slices of banana on top and they tasted bad. Pancakes cold and dry. The best meal ordered was a breakfast bowl. The top of it was ok, but when you got below the cheese and egg, you had a bowl of potatoes, onions, and peppers sitting in a pool of grease. The waiter, a nice enough guy, who has been there quite a while should have known better than to serve those meals. You could easily tell by looking at them that they were bad! The ONLY reason I am giving it 2 stars instead of one is because the building is nice. I don't thing we will ever go back. The local Cracker Barrel is better, and that is not saying much! read more

My wife and I love going to this restaurant and enjoy the beautiful outdoor golf views. We come about once a month and been coming for over a year. We enjoy the food on the menu. We have no complaints on our end. I always see the manager be engaged with the customer. I can tell that he has a passion for this. I hope the passion never leaves. The staff is great and pleasant. We also come here to get drink which we enjoy. During certain holidays they will make special reservations. I was very impressed during the Valentine reservation. This is my go to place to enjoy a calm but lively night. I will continue to frequent this place. I do believe some of the reviews are more how people like their food in example "seasoning, well cooked." that is a personal taste and cannot be put on the review as the restaurant needs to serve the masses. The patron needs to convey that to the server. However, anything in regards to food health safety and sanitation definitely needs to be brought to the attention of the manager/owner. Literally just finished my meal and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I am not satisfied. Considering my meal was almost $20, I'm pretty disappointed. I got the chicken and waffles with a side of home fries. The waffle seems like it would be nice, light, and fluffy but it's SUPER dense. The syrup tastes cheap. The home fries were v salty. The chicken itself was well seasoned, but overall I'm not impressed. Staff was pretty chill, but nothing to rave about. I'm thoroughly disappointed and will not return. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch. The weather was perfect. Sat outside on patio with a stunning view and socially distanced from other tables. My family order various items... the chicken and waffles was delish. We were given a choice of white or seal meat. We opted for white. It was a plump oversized Brest that had just the right amount of seasonings and crunch and it was moist. It was nestled between 2 golden brown waffles. The eggs benedict with salmon was just delightful. It was NOT swimming in sauce. The poached eggswere perfect. The mushroom and spinach pizza was perfect. When I got to the place there was a decent sized parking lot which was completely filled. I finally temperolarly parked my car and went in to see if the grill was packed. The grill was empty but for two bar flies and the bartender. So my wife then came in and the bartender offered us water. I gratefully accepted but told her 'No lemons, please'. Since the parked cars belonged to golfers I knew better than to wait for wait for someone to move. I finally had to park up a steep hill on a rear gravel and mud road. We were the only dining patrons when we started to eat. The waiter was nice. Unfortunately the place only had the crappy Pepsi Cola selection. I ordered a mimosa and my wife ordered orange juice. The mimosa was $6. I ordered the ham Benedict and my wife ordered the breakfast with eggs, toast, sausage or bacon and hash browns. My ham Benedict came with no Hollendaise sauce and with overcooked eggs. My wife ordered her eggs over easy and likewise got over cooked eggs. I had to get the server to go bring me some Hollendaise sauce. By the time we were done two other groups came in. The head lady in one group said 'Where are we supposed to park?'. The answer was up the steep hill in the gravel back lot. The parking lot was STILL full when we left. Between the bad parking and the so so food I guess we won't return. Oh yes, when I parked the car and first entered the restaurant to eat I was greeted by a glass of water with a lemon on the glass so the bartender didn't pay any attention to my request. Mind you this was the brunch but we won't return for lunch or supper either. read more

Service is absolutely horrendous. Consistently terrible servers over 10 RECENT visits. I live very near the restaurant so having a restaurant with nice ambiance and food used to be such a wonderful perk. I do not think I will be returning as a loyal customer. Not worth the waste of time and ineptness of every single server that I have had. It really is a shame because I used to have great experiences here. Even with the motley crew of misfits that are completely unable to provide even a rudimentary level of service, Chef Paul does a wonderful job with the menu and delivering high quality food. Sadly, the service is progressively getting worse. I have had to ask for utensils and napkins on most visits, had to ask for menus on several occasions, experience about an average time for the server to greet you and take drink orders of at least 10 minutes, have had to ask for nearly all refills on all visits, have had to request the check EVERY time (and then have the server disappear for a very prolonged period of time with your card), and the tables are often dirty. So if you want to have a delicious meal in a beautiful building in a picturesque setting with epically bad service, you have found your place! As I am getting older, I prioritize service just as much as food quality when I am paying to have a nice evening out. I don't want to pay to be a captive prisoner in a server's social club of mediocrity- as tables languish in need of basic necessities, the staff lean against the walls chatting and laughing in large groups. There is no emphasis on service or to perform any task with a sense of purpose. Chef Paul please fix! You and your back of house staff work far too hard to have your reputation destroyed by low quality front of house employees. I will not return for dine-in to avoid the frustration of dealing with these issues. I will likely continue take out and the to-go catered meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas as they are wonderful. read more

Two of the stars are because of the view and the mimosas. The server was a bit overwhelmed it seemed. They said they weren't used to being that busy, however it wasn't really "that" busy. Maybe they were understaffed. Not sure. Everyone ordered eggs with cheese, but none of our eggs came with cheese. Weird, because the waiter wrote down our orders so not sure how he missed that. My eggs and bacon were extremely salty. At least my hashbrowns were good. My sister got French toast. They looked and tasted good (she gave me a sample). This place has great potential. As of now, I wouldn't be eager to go back for brunch, unless I was already on the golf course there. read more

Made reservations for Mother's Day. After waiting 35 minutes after time reservation was for, we were brought to a table outside. It was 50 degrees. There were no heat lamps. I love the ambiance of the Tidewater Grill. Since I sell lots of homes in Potomac Shores, its an ideal location to have business lunches with other real estate vendors and professionals. The crab cakes, the salads and wings are finger-licking good. The food is good! I love (although the restaurant may not love this) that there are always some seats available and also, the food staff will recognize you. I have been going to the Tidewater Grill since it opened. I absolutely love the scenic golf course views and driving through the Potomac Shores community. The food is pretty good, but the service is only OK. I recently attended a wedding reception there and it was the perfect setting with tent and all...talking about ambiance! My family and friends also celebrated my daughter's graduation/birthday dinner there. We sat outside on the patio overlooking the golf course at sundown. I took a friend to brunch at Tidewater Grill today. The food was absolutely delicious, restaurant clean and neat, and wonderful view of the gold course. Since it is not well known and off the beaten path there was no wait. There is a very nice outdoor area (too cold today) with tables, chairs and even a fire pit. Prices are good for the quality of the food and good beer selection (two of my favs, Blue Moon and Devils Backbone). Service was a bit slow when we go there and we were not even greeted for 5 mins or so, seemed to be short handed or maybe everyone came in all at once. Staff was was friendly and hard working. Great option for folks in Potomac Shores/River Oaks area so you don't have to get stuck in traffic or crowds. read more

I made a reservation a month ago and called back this week to ensure everything was good to go... turns out they overbooked and didn't even have our reservation on file. We tried this place for brunch on the weekend and were underwhelmed. when I suggested it as a place to take my daughter and her out-of-town guest, my husband's prediction was sorrow and disappointment. The grounds and the architecture are lovely. The feel of the restaurant is comfortable and airy. We were seated promptly on a Friday night without a reservation. We tried making one but they only take reservations for parties of 8 or more. our waiter kept singing the Praises of the calamari. Normally we're not calamari fans but he was convincing. As a backup we ordered buffalo chicken wings. Everyone agreed both were delicious. The sauce on the calamari was superb. Sadly, the Yelp menu is incorrect;they do not offer a ribeye option any longer. My husband was disappointed, but opted for the jumbo shrimp. I got the New York. Both meals were delicious. My daughter got the salmon which was dry. The ribs her friend ordered were tender and delicious. We shared.the good meals so she didn't starve. We arrived during happy hour and the drinks were delicious and inexpensive (so we ordered more). I got iced tea because I was driving. it was so good the next night my husband wanted to go back for appetizers. Our waiter, Michael made the visit an even nicer experience. An update. We went back for more calamari the following week and the sauce was not the same. It was closer to strait up soy sauce than the hot/sweet flavor melange that was served the weekend before. I asked what happen to the old sauce and they told us the new chef had changed it. After dinner I waited for the new chef to show up and asked very nicely if they could change it back. He listened politely but when we went back the third time it was still the boring soy sauce so I take back the calamari recommendation. They are swapping out the New York for a ribeye so my husband will be happy. read more

We went for Sunday brunch. Beautiful interior, but the place was absolutely dead. The food is reasonably priced, and the menu seems good, but my grilled cheese with Brie and apples was absolutely awful -- the cheese was 50% rind (ewwwww) and the sandwich was slathered in mustard. The server didn't bother checking on us at all after she dropped off food and refilled beverages. When I told her about my food afterwords, she didn't even apologize or offer to do anything about it (comp it, replace it, offer a dessert). I expected a lot more. read more

My visit to Tidewater Grill was overall very great. I was a bit scared at first, because they didn't answer any of the phone numbers they provided nor did they reply to any of the messages I left. With that being said I had no knowledge to if there was a dress code or if reservations were needed. I decided to go anyway and I found out that they don't seem to have a dress code and reservations weren't required. I was greeted upon entrance and my group and I decided to eat outside (it was early fall at the time). The waiter was nice and took our orders. He came back quick with the drinks and refilled them frequently. The food seemed like it took forever, but in all fairness it also seemed like they needed a bread to help pass the time. When the food came out, it was all plated perfectly and looked delicious. The food was hot and very good. The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect. We spent hours talking and taking in the sunset over the designer golf course. We ordered deserts, which were delicious. By the time we were done, we found out we spent three hours there. I was surprised, but never felt rushed by the waiter. There were other people there too that spent an equal amount of time there, if not more. I guess it's a relaxing place to be at. The waiter gave the check and applied the 15% Potomac Shores resident discount, since someone at our table is a soon-to-be resident. He was very nice and applied it to the whole check. Be forewarned, though, that if you're not a resident, the prices without the applied discount can get pricy. Nevertheless, I still had a great time. I would highly recommend this place to others wanting a good and relaxing time at a restaurant. read more

I took two of my friends to the Tidewater Grill today for lunch. What a great find. Two of us got the Cobb Salad, and there was enough crabmeat for two very large crabcakes. It was so large, that I could only eat half of it. I just finished the other half for dinner. Great service, fabulous food, beautiful venue, and a charming place. My husband and I dined at Tidewater Grill on a Sunday Afternoon. Beth took our order and she's always quite pleasant. We had BBQ rubbed wings and a grill cheese sandwich. Everything was delightful and we enjoyed sitting by the fireplace and looking at the beautiful golf course. This is the 3rd time we've dined there and each time service is outstanding along with the food. The only recommendation would be for the restaurant to stay opened longer than 7pm during the week night. read more

Too many great things to say about this place.... We love the atmosphere.... the inside of the clubhouse, the views of the golf course, and the fire pit on cool evenings. We come a couple of nights a week and everyone has become like family. The head chef is wonderful and provides first rate service with WONDERFUL tastes and specials on the weekends. His assistant chefs are awesome as well and deserve special recognition for their efforts. Happy Hour is always a treat with $3.00 drafts and discounts on bar drinks, but stay for dinner. The wait staff is SUPER friendly and will take great care of you. We don't want to call them out by name, but our regular servers make our trips there wonderful. The special events (Wine Dinner for example) are top notch with food and wine parings really making for an outstanding night out and the prices were completely reasonable. We are looking forward to January's Beer dinner!!!! Food Specifics: Matt's Crab Cakes are world class, stuffed with Crab Meat. The burgers are thick and juicy and they never skimp on the cheese and bacon (Ask for the Bacon Jam!). The salads are big and fresh and don't miss the BBQ dry-rubbed rubbed wings. If they have the smoker going, get whatever is coming out of it... pork, wings, etc. This is our restaurant of choice for unwinding after a tough week or just avoiding cooking and doing dishes. Firstly note that this isn't just a golf place. There isn't any kind of membership required and there isn't a dress code or anything like that. Anyways, this place was great. The salad came with a massive crab cake and the crab was good. The steak was great, juicy with a perfectly salted crust. The chocolate torte was real chocolate (wife is a chocolatier and knows when she's eating good chocolate). You get the sense that they put effort into selecting the right ingredients to make good food and not just good margins. On top of that the service was great and the prices were very reasonable. Came in for happy hour Friday evening based on the recommendation of a coworker. My initial impression is that Potomac Shores (Tidewater Grill is their clubhouse restaurant) is a top notch facility. The ambiance, architecture, and decor are spectacular. That being said, my first experience was anything but top notch. The beer tap was broken which put a damper on the happy hour selection .The menu was concise yet varied enough to accommodate differing tastes, and the prices weren't too shabby. The food was well prepared, well seasoned, and just the right temperature. I can honestly say that it was, by far, the best meal I've ever eaten at a golf course restaurant. Our experience went awry with the terrible service that evening. As best as I could tell there was only one person working the entire dining room. I can't speak for the circumstances that lead to this colossally terrible decision to staff an entire restaurant on a Friday night with one person, but my experience and that of those around us suffered greatly. However, I believe in second chances and really wanted to take my wife to see the beauty this hidden gem of an establishment has to offer. We went in yesterday for brunch, and I was once again, extremely impressed with the food. The brunch menu is pretty limited, but the crab cakes benedict are delicious!! They offer bloody mary and mimosa specials, but much to my dismay, the beer tap was STILL broken. I'm a huge fan of Devil's Backbone beer which they carry on draft but have been disappointingly unable to serve me on two separate occasions. The service yesterday was 100% improved. We've been for Sunday brunch 4 times now and overall this place is very good! The different benedicts are tasty and I don't think I've left without a clean plate. Also, I can't remember exactly what the hot dogs come with, but DEFINITELY GET THEM. SO good. Bloody Mary's are awesome and the mimosas and also yummy, and well priced! Most of the staff is super friendly and accommodating, only one young guy who seemed as though he didn't care wether or not we got served or left altogether and had an attitude. I've only seen him there once though, so that's good. Also, the place is beautiful and it's great to sit outside and fun to overlook the golf course! It is off the beaten path and can be a little tough to find if you don't know exactly where you are going, as there are no signs coming in to advertise the restaurant (I'm assuming because they are mainly a golf course).
