We checked out of the Holiday Inn Express across the street and had that thing where you want breakfast but don't want to eat at the same place you always do. Quick Google, and Montclair Family Restaurant popped up basically a stone's throw away. Sold. Pulled in and the lot was full, cars circling for spots. Honestly that's usually a great sign for a breakfast spot but a rough sign for actually parking. We were about to give up and go around the block when somebody backed out right in front of us. Walked in and there were two tables left in the whole place. We felt like we'd used up a week of luck before 10am. Black coffee for me, water for her, nothing fancy. But the coffee was genuinely excellent, which I don't take for granted at a family restaurant. A lot of places treat coffee like an afterthought and this one clearly doesn't. I saw a Greek omelette on the menu and had never had one, so that decision made itself. My fiancée went with the pancake tacos, which neither of us had ever seen anywhere before. My omelette came out and it was eggcellent. The real star was the tzatziki, which was one of the best I've had anywhere, not just at breakfast. My one honest gripe is the home fries showed up cold. But I dumped some of that tzatziki on them and suddenly the temperature stopped being a problem. Then there's the pancake tacos. Absolutely to die for. Picture a fancy McGriddle with a lot more going on and a lot more food. My fiancée is normally very generous about sharing, and this time I got exactly one bite before she made it clear that's all I'm getting. Jealous of her order for the second time this weekend. We will be returning for dinner next time we are in town! read more

**1 Star - Terrible service from start to finish** We sat in a small booth on a Thursday night and the first person who came over spoke almost no English. She managed to get out the word "drinks," then couldn't understand Diet Coke and unsweet iced tea. After that we sat there about 20 minutes until a different waitress finally noticed us, apologized, and took our order. Food took a long time and was very overpriced for what we got. The waitress who started our order then walked out to the parking lot without saying a word. We were ignored after that until another server came by to refill drinks and then disappeared to the other side of the restaurant. We just wanted the check so we could leave. I finally had to get up and stand at the front. One guy walked right past me, ignored me, then came back a couple minutes later and sent me to a register. The guy at the register sent me back to the first guy. They then had a disagreement right in front of me. Eventually the waitress who had taken over our table came over with a handheld machine so I could tap to pay and get out. Never again. read more

I've been wanting to try Montclair since I first saw them on FB. I finally got the chance when I found out 2 good friends who moved recently now live near it. So I joined them on Sunday to try the place out. First thing, oh wow, this place gets crowded on Sunday! Jam packed. However, once we got seated, service was polite, quick, and kinda extraordinary for a diner. Customer service was first-rate imho. As for the food, it's good. It's not the best diner food I've had, but it's certainly above average. Me and my friends first shared the gyro fries, which kinda blew me away. I've had loaded fries at many places, but giving it that gyro/Greek spin just made it pop with flavor. We also tried their vegetable of the day which was seasoned green beans which tasted excellent. Very addictive. For my own order, I got their breakfast combo. I probably shouldn't have as I could only finish half of it. I finished half of everything on it but there was way too much food for me to handle. Overall, a very enjoyable experience and I think me and my friends will visit here when we can get together in Dumfries. My actual rating overall is 4 and 1/2 stars with 4 for food and 5 for service. read more

Went in for dinner out of curiosity since I had never been in here to eat, and boy did I ever make a massive mistake. Chopped steak was essentially one gigantic overcooked hamburger patty, covered with brown gravy. It was completely inedible, and tasted expired. Fries were horrendous at best, and the onion rings were total garbage. Meal was one big plate of slop. The steak used for our cheesesteak french fries appetizers may as well been sliced leather. zero seasoning on anything. Genuinely god awful. My suspicion of the food tasting expired has now been confirmed hours later - I won't say anything further on this. The only reason I am giving this two stars is because I was still alive at the end of it. Absolutely god awful food, and the fact this place has even 3.7 stars really goes to show the standards of the area. Miserable experience. read more

I've lived in this area for almost 30 years and had never been in here. My friend kept raving about it so we went for dinner. The spinach pie was pretty good. The serving was huge. The chicken kebab wasn't really a kebab. It was more like a stir fry. It was covered in so much sauce I couldn't taste anything but the sauce. The rice under the chicken and veggies was drowned in it so by the end of the meal it was pretty unpleasant. Don't know if I'd go here again for lunch or dinner, but maybe I'd try their breakfast coz it has a diner-like feel to it. read more

Honestly, a 2.5/5. The atmosphere is nice, although a bit cramped, but they have good lighting and it's fairly clean. The service is not good though. Although I came here on a holiday, and they were supposedly shortstaffed, there didn't seem to be a process in place for the host and waiters. There was a lack of urgency from all employees that I saw, long wait times to take orders/give coffee and food, which either shows lack of care or poor management. The pricing on their menus didn't make much sense either, and their food was both lukewarm and small in portions. I urge management to take a close look at their menu and do a taste testing of their food, along with enact and enforce strict guide guidelines and processes for their employees; this place has potential, but either new management is needed or clear operating procedures. read more

So I've lived in the Dumfries/Woodbridge area for a while now. I attend church not far from this restaurant and on Sundays considered stopping for breakfast before service but never was able to make it due to the wait times being very long. So I decided this Saturday I'll finally stop in since my Saturday's have more time than Sundays. My son (18 months) and myself came in and were seated pretty quickly so I was excited. Service seemed to start very nice but that changed swiftly. When ordering for my son I asked if the kids pancakes come with eggs and a protein since it was $10 but I was told it's only the pancakes. That was new for me considering most places we go for breakfast always offer eggs and bacon or sausage with kids meals as well as a drink. Well the kid was hungry so pancakes alone it was lol . I put my order in the French toast with the $4 Upcharge to add turkey sausage and eggs. My food came out fairly quick but it made sense when I was presented with 1 piece of French toast , hash brown, eggs and the turkey sausage. Again I was surprised to receive only one piece of bread for a French toast entree which I assume would've cost $11 alone? Strange in my opinion. After finishing my food and the waiter coming to ask me if I'd like my check I inquired about my son's pancake. He states, " you didn't order a pancake" he quickly placed the order after I insisted I know I placed the order because I inquired about what came with the meal and I always order my sons food prior to ordering my own entree. I thankfully remembered I was on the phone with my sister when ordering and called her back to ask her if she remembered me ordering she confirmed what I ordered. I know I didn't need to call her but him saying I didn't ask for it just made me think maybe I was having mom brain lol . I think my final straw was seeing I was charged $4 for the eggs and then another $3.50 for turkey sausage. So I know about this place but never went inside. About 7 years a go, at my job, we used to order lunch from them a lot and we loved their food. So this day was my dad's birthday and I was only going to be around in the morning and I had another breakfast place in mind but I remembered Montclair family restaurant and how I never tried breakfast food there before. I am glad we went there because my vegan father, the birthday man, he loved it. He said this is the freshest breakfast he's ever had at a restaurant. My mom loved her food too, she cannot stop talking about how good the food was. I loved my food too. We got the French toast sandwich, the breakfast sampler and some type of vegetarian omelet. They loved the breakfast potatoes. I couldn't eat mine because I forgot to ask if they put onions in the potatoes, I seen onions in there, I don't eat them. It was so many other things on the menu I wanted to try. We got the strawberry lemonade, I like that it wasn't overly sweet. This is a small restaurant, nice ambiance, very clean and cute. The staff there are polite. The food tasted fresh and portions are huge. We ended up taking food home. We don't eat pork and it was nice they were able to substitute for us. Unfortunately they have increased their prices to what I consider unreasonably high. $16 for 4 cups of coffee $4 for a side order of bacon. $99 for 4 to dine on pancakes and eggs just seems ridiculous. The delay in getting our food spanned 45 minutes. They used to be much quicker and cheaper. I guess we're back to WOKE Cracker Barrel where $65 still gets 4 hungry folks a decent breakfast. Place was very busy. We ordered our food with no issues. Food took a long time for us to get our food. Once we got our food, my potatoes and waffle was cold. We wanted for awhile and never saw our waitress so we told one of the young gentlemen that our food was cold. Instead of giving us a new plate of food, off to the microwave our food went. So of course the waffle was no good after the microwave. My wife had the French toast and the one slice she got was cold along with the potatoes. It tells me that I was sitting foe a while explaining the long wait. Very pricey for breakfast! A cup of orange juice was $5 and each one of our meals were $18. First time here. I thought the restaurant was surprisingly very clean. Our server I believe her name was Peggy. Very nice lady. The food was well cooked and well seasoned. Everything had good flavor. I especially loved the french fries they were well cooked and crispy. My mother did order a burger, but I forgot to take a picture of it. She said it was very tasty. My Son ordered the bacon mac & cheese. Not sure if you can tell from the picture, but it was very large. So he was able to have the rest of it for lunch the next day. This BLT really hit the spot for me. It was teeming with savory bacon and the lettuce was so crisp. It was perfect, just the way I like it. The service was good. Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. Only problem I have is the floor was quite slippery (probably from the grease since it was an open kitchen). There were a couple of times when we heard plates crash on the floor and made me wonder if it was due to the slippery floor. Stayed at a hotel across the street and took advantage of the walkable location. Prior to entry there are banners recognizing them for "Best of" since 2019. Now we know why, friendly faces, generous portions and outstanding food have set them up for success. Desserts galore greet you in a fridge as you walk in to an ole style diner feel. Rude Manager - Cursed at a customer who commented on the food My friend ordered an omelet with home fries and toast. The order arrived and the home fries were cool, the omelet tasted of spring onions and the toast had a huge amount of butter in the center of it that wasn't spread out. My friend could not eat the meal and informed the waitress that she couldn't eat it. My friend handed the plate back to the waitress and told her it was not edible. She asked if she could not be charged for it since she didn't eat it or be given a discount. The waitress asked and was told that she has to pay for it. She said she would pay and leave a bad review.
