I wouldn't say close enough to walk, especially if you are bringing chairs, coolers, food, etc. You are within minutes drive to restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, etc for all your shopping needs. Beech Tree also has a little shop that have some drinks, trinkets, clothes, decor, etc. that my fiance says is adorable, cute, etc. If you love going to the beach and want to stay at a place owned by some nice people rather than some big corporately owned motel/hotel with no personality or character, check this place out! You won't be disappointed. We haven't, we're planning our 4th trip back here hopefully sooner than later!

The owners built their house as a B&B, so everything was new, yet personal. Each suite has it's own jacuzzi tub and fireplace, and feels private like a hotel, yet warm and inviting like a B&B should be. The Blue Iris is well kept and cared for, and their grounds ads are a nice walking distance to Bedells. The location also allows for an easy night out on the town, or to stay in and enjoy the rocking adirondack chairs around the beautiful fire pit. Lorry's style was top notch - everything was designed and picked out for very specific reasons. Our room was american themed. But The Blue Iris truly shined at breakfast time! We were welcomed with lemon squares, coffee and a raspberry yogurt served on gorgeous china. Goblets of water, and juice felt expensive and hearty. Lorry and Jerry joined our conversation, but were not overbearing. Didn't inject themselves into our time, but their opinions were a welcomed addition to our morning.

Blue Iris: A Serene & Enchanting Get Away…read more Lorry and her husband were wonderful hosts for my girlfriend and I. We came in from Manhattan searching for a quiet and relaxing get away and that's exactly what we got. Their house is absolutely beautiful and sits on a pristine piece of land, well-lit as you approach, and the gravel driveway reminiscent of an older long island but still very modern. Inside, the house is sublimely decorated with a classical piano selection playing in the background. The Rooms are upstairs, equipped with a fire place (turned on with the flick of a switch), a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom and a firm queen sized bed. Our room was charmingly decorated with rusted treasure chest keys hanging from the wall and a 1920's Country Wall Phone with a crank handle that actually turns. The rooms are as warm and inviting as they are comfortable and tranquil. The Blue Iris is truly an enchanting get away for anyone seeking to escape the stress and chaos of everyday life. Our host, Lorry, was absolutely delightful and as helpful as could be. As soon as we made our reservation with her, she recommended dinner/spa reservations (A Lure had the best peppercorn Tuna and the Blue Sage Spa had a very relaxing couples massage), and confirmed our reservation for us at A Lure when we arrived (as well as handing us a discount card to a majority of the wineries, restaurants, and spas in the area). Lorry was there for our every need and wasn't even phased when we accidentally broke her wine glasses (which she didn't charge us for)! Breakfast started with fruit cups, coffee, tea, corn bread, and finished with a egg bacon and vegetable souffle which was to die for. When we visited some of the wineries around town and we mentioned to the employees that we were staying at Lorry's they even made a note to tell us how wonderful her breakfasts are. While we visited in February, the Blue Iris is just a small 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk to the water/beach. I'd 100% recommend the Blue Iris to any and everyone and I look forward to staying there again!

Always saw staff maintaining the property. The property had a small private beach with overlook to rocky bluff. The hotel also has spa services for those who want to indulge in a facial or massage. On select Fridays the restaurant has a wine tasting and Al's hosts larger events. Lunch and dinner we sat outside on the covered patio with a beautiful view of the sound. Sydney was friendly and accommodating at dinner. The manager Anthony took good care of us at dinner for substitutions due to food intolerances. The food was excellent we had the short rib and steak frits with a beautifully paired Bordeaux. Lunch we had the crab cakes, house salad and smash burger. Our stay was just what we needed to relax and unwind. A definite revisit in the future.

The Meal : 7:30 Dinner reservation and we were seated right away in the back dining area where we were surrounded by images of boats and ships. It was busy but the service was prompt and attentive. The bread was warm and yummy. I had a delicious bowl of New England Clam Chowder and the grilled pork chop off the summer menu. The entire dining area is old wood -- floor, wall, ceiling -- and the room we were in had narrow floor-to-ceiling bookcases filled with hardcover books. I write this to demonstrate that all the decor served to dampen the sound despite nearly all tables being occupied. While you could hear the bustle and conversations around you, you could still have a conversation. Our server greeted us promptly and took a drink order. When he returned with our drinks, we ordered the clam chowder and braised short ribs for my wife and a wedge salad with the dry-rubbed pork chop for me. After entering our order, our server returned with a basket of warm dinner rolls and butter, then minutes later brought out our soup and salad. Both appetizers were terrific, and I think that may be one of the best blue cheese dressings I've had. Water glasses were refilled frequently without being asked and dishes were cleared by other waitstaff. We never wanted for anything, and none of the comings and goings were disruptive. This was a professional and competent team. Our entrees were served shortly after we finished our appetizers, and they were beautifully presented on the plates. My wife loved her short ribs, which she said melted in her mouth. Until this meal, I've yet to find pork chops to surpass the ones I make at home, but this was truly exceptional! While the mango salsa topping the chop was nice, it was completely unnecessary as the chop was well seasoned and juicy. We capped off the meal with desserts, a chocolate mousse pie for my wife, a warm butter caramel cake with berry compote for me. Delicious! We'll be back to this gem of a place!
