I've driven to/from Hwy 2 off of I-5 or SR522 to head over Stevens Pass many times, but this was my…read morefirst time to detour off the main drag and visit the downtown retail area in Monroe. I specifically was seeking out Sky River Bakery on 3/15/25. I lucked out with a nearby parking spot and had an opportunity to check out the pastry case offerings while in line. There's also a few tables to dine at onsite. Pleasant small town, neighborhood feel. Both folks behind the counter were welcoming and kindly answered my questions. Nice assortment of beverages and baked goods available like biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, and other pastries. The person ahead of me made it a point to have biscuits and gravy plus cinnamon rolls to go. Cinnamon roll got my attention! I ended up ordering a ham & cheese biscuit - got two mini ones for the price of one, plus a cinnamon roll. The latter kept really well refrigerated which I later ate for breakfast before work during the week. Nice that it was a manageable size and not too cloying with glaze...Goldilocks just right, lol. Enjoyed this destination detour and thanks to fellow Yelp Elites, Craig and Earnie for putting this on my radar screen!

The latte was really good, but I wished the savory bread had more filling. The flavor was nice tho. The person who helped us was very nice. It's a great place to stop by before heading into the mountains.

Judy was a pleasure to work with, and our wedding cake was AMAZING. We finally decided on a hazelnut cake (that she actually grinds hazelnuts into the flour), with layers of poached pear (in pear liqueur) mousse and caramel mousse, with buttercream frosting. It was better than we could have ever hoped for, and many of our friends and family commented on it being the best cake they had every tried! We are counting the days to our "anniversary" cake that Judy will be providing us next year!

We had a lot of fun exploring the different cake and specialty shops, with elaborate displays with many options to taste and choose from. Even at Judy's shop there were so many options. But she stood out because of her insistence on high quality ingredients, a perfection of layering light layers of cake with multiple mouse and fruit fillings, and her great focus on service and quality. My favorite part, besides eating the cake, was getting a computer generated preview of exactly what our cake would look like. Really, how cool is that? At our tasting she had the typical array of options, but she also had incredible combinations and flavors in mind that we didn't see anywhere else. The options weren't overwhelming either because Judy was careful to provide good constraints and recommendations on what goes with what. Not only that, she took great concern for the actual day of delivery considering weather and time of delivery. She warned us the cakes wouldn't be there by the time we arrived if it was too warm, so when that happened we didn't sweat. They magically appeared sometime after the ceremony and well before cake cutting time - they were on display and all. She came in and out like a ninja, we never saw her! In summary: amazing cake, great for foodies and serious cake eaters, fantastic service, and comfortable collaboration all the way through.

The street was on the narrow side with parking on both sides of the street. I parked in some of the angled parking across from the address of Pueblo Viejo. There was a large truck between where I parked and where my Apple Maps app had indicated the store was located. Making my way to the closest crosswalk, I crossed the road and found that yes, the store was behind the truck. A banner clearly marked the store front, and the entrance was easy to spot. Upon entering the store, I decided to stop and take a picture. Once I took the picture, I realized there was a woman behind the front counter watching me and I said hello. Looking around, there was a variety of offerings. My dad has been experimenting with different breakfast recipes from different cuisines and I spotted some ingredients he might find fun. However, what engulfed the majority of my attention was the array of bakery items. Trays were available to one side of the baked goods cases along with tongs. Friendly and helpful workers helped me figure out that I got a bag for the items at payment. I went with a pink pan dulce and what ended up tasting and looking to me like a pineapple empanada of sorts. Neither item was too sweet, and both had flavor and texture true to what it was. Together they made for a good sweet tooth fix. The price for both items with tax was $2.10 and cash payment was accepted. The woman who took me through the payment process was the same one sitting behind the counter when I took the picture when I entered the store. She was warm and friendly in our interactions.
