TLDR: Love the gym, coaches, staff, & community. 10/10…read more I walked into Prevail in 2017, and 9 years (and 1,324 classes as of this morning) later, I'm still showing up. I am leaving Los Angeles for the UK next spring, and honestly, one of the biggest things I am going to miss is coming to Prevail. Second might be a proper breakfast burrito and taco trucks, but first is definitely Prevail. Prevail is a great way to start your day, or end it if it's been a particularly stressful one. Before class, you're chatting with the friends you've made, and after class begins you're only thinking about the minute you are in. Anything you were worried about disappears because you can only focus on the present. And when things finally start to click for you on a specific punch, counter, defense, or footwork move... Or when you used to grab your knees desperate for air but now you can knock out 20 burpees in a minute... That's the dopamine hit you're looking for. VIBES Prevail is great for first-timers or returning champions. The front desk staff always welcomes you when you walk in, and if you're new, they will get you set-up and make sure you're not just tossed into the deep end. The coaches all have their unique style, but they always bring fun, energy, and experience to every class. They're never impatient with you if you're not doing something quite right, or aggressively shouting at you to do more. There has never been a coach I have not liked, or more accurately, I love 'em all. ;-) The community of members is a wide range of ages, fitness levels, and boxing experience. But aside from all that, it's basically a big group of cool folks. And there's definitely no toxic bro vibe. No one is judging what you can or can't do. Everyone is super supportive of each other. I've actually made quite a few friends that I've seen outside of class. (Or in typical LA fashion, we've exchanged numbers with the intent to hang out but then never do. But that's on us, not the gym. ) CLASSES SWEAT classes focus on pushing you physically (it's called "SWEAT" for a reason) but also give you a chance to work combinations on the heavy bag and mitt work with the coaches (and sometimes other gym members will jump in and mitt so everyone gets more mitt time). And the coaches are always trying to find ways to keep the classes fresh since it would be easy to just put them on auto-pilot. BOX classes have a mix of technique and fitness with a focus on fundamentals. There is a big picture intention behind the structure and path of the classes that goes beyond a single day class. That said, you can show up on any day to get to work without having been to any of the previous classes. BOX classes definitely give you the opportunity to elevate your skill level. SPAR is where you can truly work on your technique, but you will also be working hard. You will need headgear, cup, and mouthpiece. I know some gyms are a free-for-all, but Prevail fosters a collaborative and safer vibe. The coaches will tell you that you are not trying to win a fight or hurt your partner. You are both trying to get better. They will also remind you that it is up to you to communicate with your partner on the intensity you want to work at. ***** If you're looking for a new way to get in shape, build confidence, and make friends while you do it, come check out Prevail. P.S. I sometimes mitt Lolo's Friday 8am class, so say hi to the gray-haired, sweaty guy holding the mitts for you.

We began the class with an alternating jumprope/punching warm up (about 10 minutes) and transitioned to punching with gloves in partners after. Because it was both my friend and my second time kickboxing ever, Niko helped hold the pads for us and went over the basics. Majority of the others in the class seemed pretty experienced and were able to jump into the more complex combos that Niko was providing. I appreciated how Niko was so helpful and encouraging, even though my friend and I had much less experience than those around us. In the short period of time, we were able to learn and practice jabs, crosses, hooks, knees, and kicks. After about 40 minutes of using the gloves, we ended with a quick 5 minute ab workout. Overall, such a solid workout, way to relieve stress and build confidence. Even through attending one day, you can tell everyone in the gym is pushing themselves and constantly seeking to improve, which makes it a great place to learn and be challenged. Quick note on parking: street parking (most of the spots nearby are 1 hour maximum, which works out since the class lasts for an hour)

Before coming here, I was never really consistent about going to a gym and when I did, I was nervous because I had no idea what I was doing beyond the very basics. Now that has all changed. Ivan is a fantastic trainer. He has helped me so, so much in my ongoing recovery from ACL surgery as well as my overall strength and fitness. For the first time ever, I really look forward to going to the gym due to my progress and results. He has played a huge part in helping me build confidence in working out and a love for the gym. I was going for a PR today and Ramiro (general manager) stopped what he was doing to cheer me on, then flagged when I was loosing form and corrected me to make sure I can train safely. That's the kind of people who run this place - they really care. I'd give this gym (and Ivan as a trainer) 10 stars if I could!

At first I thought people were confusing me with someone else, but I quickly realized that's just the culture here. I started with their 4-week beginner program and had a really positive experience. The professors are not only friendly and approachable, but also world-class. They pay close attention to everyone to make sure you feel comfortable and are learning the techniques correctly. Starting BJJ can feel intimidating, but they've created a safe and supportive environment that makes it much easier to stay consistent. That's important for a sport like this where progress takes time. What initially drew me in was Cobrinha's philosophy, and it absolutely lives up to the reputation. I'm disappointed with my experience…read more On the 12th, I called specifically to confirm pricing and scheduling before committing because I value both my time and the business's time. During that call, I was told there was a 4-week introductory program for $149, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. I was also told that after the introductory period, membership would be $257 per month, with a discounted rate available if I signed up early. Based on that information, I was excited to get started. I confirmed my email, completed the registration process, signed the waiver, and booked what was advertised on the website as a free trial. When I arrived for class, I was informed that free trials were no longer offered and that the $149 introductory program was no longer available. This was surprising given that only about 10 days had passed since I had called to confirm everything. I asked whether I could simply pay for a drop-in fundamentals class since I was already there and on time, but I was told that drop-ins were only available to students with prior experience. As a brand-new student, my only option was to sign up for the full $257 monthly membership. That was the most frustrating part. The lower-cost introductory option was gone, the free trial was gone, and I wasn't allowed to pay for a single class to see if the gym was a good fit. Instead, the only option available was to commit to a full month for $257 without ever having taken a class there. That's a significant commitment for someone trying a new gym for the first time. It's unfortunate because the facility seems to have a great community and many satisfied members. However, having the terms change so quickly after I confirmed them, combined with having no way to try a class before committing to a full membership, left me with a very negative first impression.
