I came here yesterday to see all the hype about the legendary Tiger who is not only the owner / coach but also a notoriously well known boxer who competed on the 84' Olympics. The gym has tight spacing but it has all the necessary equipment to trains anyone into a mean lean boxing machine. I found out that his son is the current #1 boding champion for his weight class in all of North America. So you know there is quality training that is offered here if he can train his don to be number one! My husband used to come here but yesterday he signed up again for the high quality coaching he can get from Tiger. What an exhilarating venture to look forward to. read more

Was on the phone with the wife of the owner and we were talking about pricing and what not and a few other things and then she finally says "well why don't you just come try out a class". In my head that sounds like come try out a free class and in anybody else's head that would mean come try out a free class. But after the session was over she goes that'll be 50$ dollars. well, not a boxer myself, I have experience many moments at Tiger boxing gym. I've watched family celebrations there, where they all boxed together ranging in ages from 8 to 90 and everyone in between and the joy of the experience working with Tiger and Elizabeth. I've captured many moments there with my photography as it's a passion of mine to work with boxers. I see the joy of each person who works out in this gym, and I've referred and actually brought in many people who absolutely love it there, because of the individual attention that Tiger gives them and the familial type of atmosphere. Oh Tiger! I sent my 13 year old son to Tiger's gym. He was shy and quiet and a little scared. Tiger took him under his wing and not only taught him how to jump rope, spar and hit a bag, but he also put in every minute of that hour with my son working on his confidence and helping him to get strong and more importantly feel strong. I never worried about him while he was there because even if the gym was closing, or I was running late, Tiger would wait with him on the bench for me to pick him up chatting with him and making my son laugh. I'm a huge fight fan and get a rush from watching great fighters like pacquiao, mayweather, de la hoya etc etc. Is anyone else excited about Contender Season 3? Can I get an Amen? And I don't know if there is a person in the world more excited that Mayweather is going to be on the next season of Dancing with the Stars. (I know, a male who loves boxing and Dancing with the Stars.... I am a complex person ok) Anyway, I've always wanted to learn the sweet science but never got around to joining a boxing gym until I found Tiger's. I don't have any real comparison to make between Tiger's and other boxing gyms, since I've only experienced boxing here, but I can say that this is a great place to get in shape period. Boxing, the sweet science, is a total body workout and at Tiger's you get one-on-one attention. They schedule you in, at any time that works for you, and give you a personal session each time. The personal attention definitely helps with motivation, getting over the initial intimidation of getting in a boxing gym, and CJ (who trains me) does a great job of pushing me and introducing new exercises to keep my body developing at the right pace. It's great, you won't regret it. Tiger is a former pro boxer, and his son CJ also handles training and fitness at the gym. Both are knowledgeable and push you just enough to get you to the next level. Having a personal trainer pay one-on-one attention to you is invaluable. It totally beats paying $$$ for a gym membership you will never use or get anything out of. This is a no-nonsense boxing gym but totally down to earth. In no time you will be catching chickens, pounding chunks of beef, and rocking the speed bag like Rocky. Maybe Tiger and CJ will eventually give you a moniker... I haven't gotten one yet, but they do refer to me as the hairiest asian they've ever seen. (Just for the record, only my legs are hairy ok.) Last note: what about the $$$? Tiger's can be a bit pricy (for a poor grad student like myself). They charge about $500 for 20 sessions (and also offer 10 session increments too). While that is a pricy sum of money, it comes out to $25 a session for basically a personal trainer, and experienced boxing instruction. You could get personal boxing training for anywhere from $10 to $100 per hour, depending on the fame of the trainer. I've also seen group boxing lessons that came out to $15-20 a class. So I'd say Tiger's is a good deal in comparison. read more

This is a really cool place to go if you want no-nonsense boxing. Boxing is by far the most demanding exercise I've ever experienced. If you think a hike up at Runyon canyon is exhausting, it doesn't come close to the rigors of boxing. The instructors will not only get you in shape, but they really emphasize on personal training so they'll know your threshold. The two instructors here Tiger and C.J (father and son), are both class acts. By the end of your first class, you will feel that they really care about your progress. They are friendly people who really puts your needs first. The prices are reasonable considering what other boxing gyms charge. I highly recommend Tiger boxing gym. It's also right in the heart of Melrose Avenue. Can you imagine all the jealous eyes on you when you've just spent two hours getting toned from a rigorous boxing regimen? ;-) read more

When my 6 year old son quit soccer I decided to try a sport that uses your arms. And since his granddad was Golden Gloves I figured boxing might be in his DNA. Guess it is since he really took to it quick. He can't wait for Sunday mornings and he really loves training with Tiger, even when he has to jump rope and do medicine ball sit-ups. Tiger is the best boxing coach!!! He's never satisfied; he'll push you beyond your perceived limits. But he's also really warm and he makes everyone feel welcome. Each session starts with 4 rounds of 3 minutes of jumping rope, then he'll wrap your hands (he sells plenty of colorful wraps and he has gloves if you forget yours) for 4 rounds of sparring in the ring with him. After that you'll probably do 4 rounds of the speed bag, punching bag, and ab work. You'll be shaking before the hour is over and conditioning will increase after just a few sessions. If you want a great one-on-one workout for a fabulous price, this is the place to be. A few months ago, I was attempting the "fitness at home" program with a treadmill and some DVDs. I couldn't find the motivation to develop a pattern, so decided on a whim to sign up for boxing. Wow. The owner/instructor, Tiger, is a great teacher and really pushed me above and beyond my fitness goals. My arms are cut, my abs are defined, and I can actually last 4 rounds without feeling like I'm about to faint or vomit. Ha. I'm hooked! The session lasts about 80 minutes and is a great deal, compared to an impersonal gym with no one-on-on guidance. I highly recommend this gym. read more

The gym is great - a perfect way to put yourself to the test. You can go as far as you want - get a good workout, train seriously, really learn how to box, up to sparring. Tiger is a "real" ex pro ( he can slip a punch in as fast as I can blink) he has the uncanny knack of knowing just how far to push you so you keep progressing but never hurt yourself. I started at 3 rounds and I was at my limit, now he has me up to 8 rounds and Im at my limit...see what I mean? I would not know how far to go. Tiger Boxing Gym is the greatest boxing gym in LA. I get such a workout high from leaving Tiger knowing that I got an amazing workout. A typical workout regimen with Tiger includes about 20 minutes of warm-up, then three minute rounds one-on-one with Tiger in the ring, then three rounds of the punching bags, three rounds of the speed ball, then the most intense but satisfying ab workout and push-ups. This is probably the friendliest gym in Los Angeles filled with people who want to get a good exercise and have a good time in the meantime. I have been seeing Tiger for one year now and it was such a great decision walking through their door that one day. I recommend this gym to everyone and even children.
