This place is outstanding! You can't not have a good time on a Saturday night when they have karaoke. We sang, danced, made a ton of new friends and just had a blast! Super friendly crowd. We literally talked to everyone. Love the diversity of ages, genders and lifestyles. Such a vibe! We went two nights in a row while we were in town cause we had such a good time. Such a cute dive bar! This place was AMAZING. I love the decorations it has and they have seating and games you're able to play. It looked like they did karaoke too! Came here after asking a few locals for a karaoke spot in town on a sat night. Walked in to what seemed a cute, dive bar with a healthy crowd. Friend and I waited (polite, with a smile) at the bar for about 15 mins while she served everyone around me. Turned around and ignored me after I asked if I was waiting in the wrong spot to order. The other bartender looked over at me, laughed, then grabbed a bunch of receipts and said she needed to do some "accounting" and turned away from me as well. My gay friend standing next to me got fed up and walked away. I told her to chill, figured maybe it really wasn't personal. 5 mins later they served the guy behind me and then me. I ordered two canned drinks, not trusting a pour from them at that point. I should say, at first I generously thought they were a bit of a territorial local bar, wasnt offended, I'm sure tourists get annoying. 30 mins later, sent my other, very normal looking, straight friend up to order a drink for me. She got served immediately. No attitude. She came back and gave the drink to me. The original bartender noticed, didn't appreciate that I didn't give her another chance to assert some tiny power over me and raised her voice to exclaim about the "two dumb bitches" she had to deal with earlier, pointed to us, laughed with the locals. It was then that I realized she didn't have an issue with new faces - my cute straight friend got a drink and friendly service, no problem. - She didn't like me and my gay friend, two older, very outward presenting dykes. Ironically, she was sporting a "imagine being more afraid of diversity, than you are of a dictatorship " tshirt. I guess diversity to these ladies means punk or non-punk, straight, white folks. The vibe was garbage from those two bartenders towards us gay women for the remainder of the eve. They've obviously made it their personal mission to disprove the rumor that Asheville is the cool, progressive city in NC. In short, this place is friendly to everyone but homos (and brown people apparently according to other reviews, seems plausible as there were definitely none there last night.) read more

A friend from Asheville took us to a bar called burger bar and I was expecting that it sold burgers lol but instead its a really cool dive bar with a misleading name. No food is served here but what is served is a super cool chill dive bar with great decor, awesome service and ice cold beer. What more can you ask for. The closest thing to a New Orleans dive in Asheville. read more

I am in absolute shock that I have not reviewed this place yet. Years ago, the first time I lived in Asheville, I found this place thanks to a friend, and it became a staple. Upon returning to Asheville two years ago, I was beyond thrilled to find it to be the same comforting dive bar I remembered from before. Located literally on the side of the highway, across from new Belgium, this inconspicuous little spot is a favorite. Is it grungy? Yes. Does it serve burgers? Absolutely not. Bring your leather, and an open mind and heart, and you will find true happiness here. It's a true community spot with a ton of events, such as karaoke, film, screenings, and even a sewing class I heard. The bartenders are incredibly welcoming. Really excited to visit here, great decor and atmosphere - at least at the start. We arrived at about 11.15pm and immediately signed up for karaoke. There were 6-7 people on the list in front of me - about a 40min wait - no problem, I thought. There were two large groups at the bar, all friendly. We cheered them as they took turns to sing. After about an hour, I began to wonder why I hadn't been called. I waited and waited while every member of both groups got up to sing, many of whom I had seen put their names down after me. After they had all sung, at nearly 1am, I was finally called to sing to an empty bar. I felt horrible. I don't know if it was because they were all the MC's friends, or all regulars, or all white (which they were and I am not) but it was a horrible experience. read more

This place is horrible, don't ever go here. The bathrooms are disgusting, the bartenders are friendly and covered in tattoos, decent drink specials, the bouncers are rude. They're kinda jerks. Everyone smokes outside and the air is filled with smoke. Dogs are everywhere and the place kinda smells. It's one of my favorite bars in Asheville and I hope you never come here. read more

Came to Asheville for a couple of days to decompress from work. Someone told me about this place and I am so glad I went. Gretchen, the bartender was awesome and I met some super awesome people. I met A great couple and they bought me the famous burger shot. It was crazy good!!! A shot of Bloody Mary mix, a shot of tequila then a shot of dill pickle juice! Loved this spot! Had been there 1,000+ times before with no incident. I had one, bad night and ended up making a fool of myself. I have always bought rounds for old acquaintances that I've ran into there. Went back a few times after that night. An old acquaintance who has worked there for a while informed me that I was barred. Without a warning, I was barred from one of the last bastions of old school West Asheville. Human beings have bad times sometimes. I truly am sorry for any heartache I may have caused. This dive bar always have interesting characters and great service! This place accepts everyone but assholes so don't come if you have a chip on your shoulder. So disappointed at first. We showed up ready to feast on some grade A Angus stacked with bacon and chili. The host in the motorcycle jacket said they don't serve burgers, or food of any kind for that matter. Lawd have mercy . We decided to stay anyway because we just spent nearly an hour meandering through the river arts district to find the place and believe me, that's not an easy feat at ten o'clock at night after eating a fistful of magic mushrooms.
