They also had an onion mix on the side that paired really well with the food and added extra flavor. And there is nothing wrong with that! They offer tacos, burritos, and burrito bowls. Steering clear of a full entree menu with enchiladas and fajitas, Tight Tacos keeps it tight and simple and sticks to what they do well. And they do tacos well--very well! We only tried this place a few months ago and have been here at least once a month since. It's hard to stay away from their crispy chips, spicy salsa, and terrific tacos. The fish taco is my favorite. The batter is crisp and the fish is delicate and buttery soft. Contrasted with a light slaw and a warm tortilla that's a blanket for a perfect bite. The shrimp taco has a generous serving of plump and perfectly cooked crustaceans. The poblano taco might be overlooked next to its pork and streak counter parts but it's a delightful vegetarian option. Hubby always does the three-taco plate with sides of rice and bean. They are no-frills but filling and are a nice balance to the crunch and heat of the spicy pickled onions they serve at the all-you-can handle, do-it-yourself bar that also offers an endless surplus of sliced limes. Counter service is fast. They serve you but you bus your own table when you're done. Again, it's not so much a full-serve restaurant as a fancy taco truck without the wheels and with tables. Pricing is fair and reasonable and they have taco Tuesdays and daily specials. Lots of metered parking nearby. Locally owned and operated joint...No reason to not try this place! The rajas is a tasty option if you want veggies or a meatless taco and the pollo asado meat was cooked just right, juicy not dry, and very flavorful. The bajaritto was great fresh from the fryer. The fish was a decent size, with good batter and fried just right--the combination of ingredients blended well. However, this is not fast food. I've tried Tight Tacos before. I am not much of a taco fan - that bend your neck sideways to eat 'em move doesn't appeal to me. But these are the best tacos on the east-side of Honolulu. Having recently spent several lunch hours on the top of the hill in Kaimukī I've rediscovered what is so good about Tight Tacos. The carne asada, carnitas, lengua, and pollo asada are slow cooked. The tortillas are hand pressed. The salsas are made in house and are outstanding - there might be a fresh slivered onion, mild verde, medium rojo, or an unassuming incendiary orange version. Salsa is help yourself. So is water. Napkins and utensils are take-away style. I like the tacos - especially with a Taco Tuesday discount. If you want crispy tacos you can get a pair in a cute dino w some beans and rice. The burritos are hefty, as expected. I love the way they get a good grill on their flour quesadillas. This is the only Tight Tacos in Hawaii. The Ballesteros and Cosio duo have their OG shops in Portland but this is a return to the same block in Kaimukī where they once worked. I'm super picky about tacos (ask anyone) and a friend from LA swore this was her favorite spot on Oahu so obviously I had to try it. The interior is cute, the environment is laid-back, and the staff was beyond helpful (especially with my long list of food allergies). I ended up getting the pollo asado and camarones tacos - both on fresh corn tortillas with cabbage, onion, cilantro, and a side of their incredible homemade salsas + pickled red onion. The shrimp had the perfect texture (not rubbery or overcooked ) and the chicken was juicy and super flavorful! Honestly, the salsas alone are worth the trip! My friend went for the baja fish tacos and the weekend special birria tacos and said they were hands-down his favorite on the island so far. My only wish? Bigger meat portions but flavor-wise, it was there. IMO they don't hit the same as California tacos, but for Oahu? My fav so far! Probably my favorite fish tacos on the island. On par with fish tacos in San Diego in my opinion. I like the self serve salsa bar so you can get as much salsa and limes as you want. It's a smaller space and limited seating but a lot of people do takeout from here anyway. Customer service is always nice and you're never really waiting that long for your food. As always in Kaimuki, mostly metered street parking. I honesty haven't tried anything else other than the fish tacos cause they're that good! Hahaha. I came again several times after and it was always good. Went today after not coming here for a few months and it was disgusting. I really miss Azteca. The food here is always mediocre at best. It's too salty, overpriced, and takes forever. Expect to wait a minimum of 30 minutes. I forgot to post this way earlier, but lost track of time. What a bizarre way to start 2025...and none better than to enjoy 'Taco Tuesday' than in Kaimuki. I ended up going to Tight Tacos, which was something my therapist suggested me to try last year, but never had the opportunity to try. I guess I picked a good time to go for some Mexican food than today, huh? So...considering the look of the restaurant, there was some space and/or tables to sit at, and it was a good opportunity for me to try some good food over there. I ate three different tacos over there, which included the Carnitas and Lengua from the Two Taco Plate and one Carne Asada from the $3 Taco Tuesday special. They were all delicious. Of the three, I actually liked the Lengua, considering that I never had beef tongue before in a Mexican restaurant. It wasn't that bad. I was torn from wanting to try the two taco plate or the Bajaritto, but I guess I chose the simple route by trying their tacos, given the namesake of their restaurant. Food was great, decently priced, and overall, great experience for me. I recommend this place if you wanna enjoy coming in on a Tuesday if you want tacos at a reasonable price, or if you wanna try a Mexican restaurant in the eastern side of Oahu. read more

Because we loved their food so much we decided to use them for a company gathering for catering. I went to take tacos for lunch on a Wednesday with my work buddies. I ended up getting a two taco plate with just shrimp tacos because that I think is the best flavored taco. It comes with rice and beans as sides, which go great with the taco. I also ordered chips and salsa, which is unlimited refills, but we ended up just eating the whole Basket of chips. They have a bar of different salsas that you can add to your tacos or dip your chips in. They used to have the pickled carrots and peppers but this time they just had an onion mix with spicy sauce on it.Not my favorite because I really do love those pickled vegetables. But I recommend this place because of the quality and price of their dishes being a great value. They have a smothered burrito which always looks amazing and I will have to try in the future. We also had chips and salsa on the side. They are your standard restaurant chips and salsa. No complaints here. Next to the counter, they have serve yourself salsas, limes, and a red onion relish. oh! i cant believe i've never written about tight tacos and i come here all the time! They replaced azteca restaurant on waialae. I was bummed that azteca closed down, but tight tacos ended up being such a nice edition to the neighborhoodhood. I've tried a variety of different items on their menu and nothing was dissapointing. I really enjoy their watermelon aqua fresca too. i wish they have it all the time. Parking can be a little bit tricky since its kaimuki. I've actually been putting in online orders around 6pm when the street parking is free and just run in to grab my order. It's also fun now that they have a little salsa bar! the green one is my favorite. I made a review on June 6, 2023 with 5 Stars complementing this establishment on how good their food is. Their Wet Burrito is BOMB.COM and also their Quesadilla's are really good too! I have no complaints on how their food tastes. The quality is SPOT ON. During that time, the service was really a good experience from the management / staff since we always would come and spend a good amount of money for quality tacos / burritos and the wait time wasn't all that bad considering the amount of tacos / burritos they had to make. Came back about 8-10 more times spending more than $50+ aside from tips. Here's an update on my review: Fast forward to this year 2025, I haven't been back since March and noticed the lack of customer service and wait times on getting our food. We ordered our food during lunch time (and yes, we know how busy lunch time gets) and was told that there would be a wait time of about 20-25 minutes. Ok, sure. So we ordered our food, paid for it PLUS a 18% tip of about $10 (on a take-out order) with a long line behind us. 20 minutes came and our food wasn't ready. As we were waiting, we noticed that the people who ordered behind us were getting their food before us I guess because they were "dined-in". Even after we waited the 20+ minutes, people came in to order and they got their food before us too! And what tops it off is they ordered the same foods as us!!! FINALLY, after waiting for about 45 minutes, we finally get our "take-out". Now, I'm a pretty patient person but I told the cashier that it's messed up that everyone else got their food before us who stood behind us and ordered after us. Even the guy who was sitting down eating noticed the same thing. He said "you guys was here before me and only now you getting your food?" We watched 4 groups of people not only who were standing behind us-but got get their food before us, dined-in, FINISHED their food and LEFT before we got ours. As a former waitress / cashier who worked in hospitality for years, I can definitely say the service was very disappointing. The first thing I would do if I told a customer the wait time would be 20-25 minutes is time it, if the time is almost at its 20 min mark, I would definitely 'apologize' to the customer and check how the order is doing in the back to get an ETA and let the customer know- at the very least. No apology from the cashier. Only "thank you for waiting..." Only the cook who came out apologized to us. Tiffany tried to justify a reason on how / why everyone else got their food before us but I wouldn't let her finish because she knows she was wrong for that! Yes, I called out her name because she tried to justify the delay. If she didn't say anything regarding justification, I would have kept her name out of this review. It wasn't till I had a conversation with my dad where he told me he didn't think he has ever had tacos before so I knew I had to make it a point to get take out from Tight Tacos Kaimuki. I called in my order and they said it'll take about 10 minutes. When I arrived, my order was just packed so I just had to pay and get my condiments located to the side of the register. The restaurant itself is spacious and clean. They offer two salsas. The brownish orange one is the spicy one and the green one is the mild one but both were mild IMO. There are lime slices along with pickled carrots and peppers on the side that you can help yourself to. I ordered the same thing for myself and my dad but I added a Chips and Salsa to my order. The menu said it's fried in house so I had to give it a try. I could appreciate the smoked flavor of their salsa but I wish it had a little spice to it. As far as the tacos, I ordered Carne Asada, Carnitas and Lengua. Each taco came with cilantro and red onions. I thought that was odd since Mexican food usually uses white onions. They were all good but the Carnitas was a little tough and dry. My dad said his taco experience was good and he enjoyed the meal so that's a plus. I'm happy he got to try tacos for the first time and it was a positive experience for him. Definitely a new favorite! I grew up with authentic Mexican food all around me and when moving to Hawai'i, I didn't realize how much of a staple it was in my diet. It's already difficult to find decent Mexican cuisine out here, but even more difficult to find vegetarian options. Tight Tacos does rajas, or sautéed poblanos in cream, very well and has become my goto. Their salsas and spicy onions are fabulous; I have never been a huge salsa verde fan, but I enjoy theirs immensely. I saw they had a special for chile relleno, which I'll have to try some time soon. I'd love to see their take on more vegetarian options, like hongos or mushrooms. The horchata and Jamaica are quite tasty, but maybe too sweet for my palate. My friend, however, could not stop raving about the horchata. The service is great, friendly, and quick. Jose, one of the chefs, was incredibly thoughtful about making sure me and my service dog were comfortable. Their Taco Tuesday deal is pretty good, but it's a smaller dining space, so it can and does get packed quickly.
