I've been going here for years with my family. The staff is unbelievably kind and the food has never disappointed. My go-to are the beef flautas; they're phenomenal -- but you really can't choose wrong. Their chips and salsa are really good. I always get their mild salsa. We went there last night for the first time despite having lived in Placerville for nearly ten years. We both ate the special, enchiladas suizas, delicious. Tender chicken with no gristle, great flavor. The only negative, and it was minor, was that I ordered a horchata but was given a coke. Not a big enough deal to get it swapped or to deduct a star. It's located in a sketchy part of P'ville but I read a review saying "best Mexican food in Placerville" so my friend and I went in excited to try it out willing to bypass the sketchy location, 8pm dark outside. It was late on a rainy night, there were only two tables with patrons, and no one in line,, no wait, lucky us! The menu is a bit limited but we both found something we wanted to try. He went for burria tacos, I went for a dinner plate, 2 enchiladas one chicken one cheese with chili verde. I am ALWAYS on the hunt for good green sauce,, and I must try it! our orders arrived much quicker than I expected, bonus! Mine arrived with the usual red sauce . Rather than sending it back, I asked for a side of chili verde. I sampled the refried beans and rice,, very bland. If you are on a low salt diet this is the place for you. I am not, so you know what I did. The green sauce was quite pale and lacked flavor, except for the onions. Lots of . I don't care for them so it's too oniony for me. The tortillas were good. My friend, who was excited for the burria; he's a big fan but was disappointed here. He said it lacked the usual flavor. We are both big fans of good Mexican food and as much as I wanted to give this restaurant a 5 thumbs up, I am giving it . 1 up for the staff; happy to be of service and pleasant to chat with. 1 up for the quick service. 3 down for flavor and the incorrect order on a not busy night. They had freshly made salsa and tortilla chips that are thin n crispy. mmm... soo good. I had the chicken taco plate with beans and rice. I liked how the chicken is shredded and marinated in this tomato-ey sauce. The beans were very good and the rice was tasty. My friend had the tamale which I'm not a big fan of tamales but it was also pretty good and very huge for a tamale. As a shredded beef burrito connoisseur it is often hard to find a Taqueria that has shredded beef but this one did. The service was fast. Jesse the owner/cook was personable. I am somewhat of a connosieur of mexican food, and this place is my all time favorite. I wont even ding it over the decor of the restaurant itself, the food is just that good. In retrospect, I suppose the decoration just adds to the authentic feel. They have excellent carne asada or carnitas tacos, served up in the "real" mexican style with cilantro and onions. We love ordering this as a group at work (they do cater) and picking it up. Their homemade salsa is to die for. I have to say my absolute favorite is their giant burritos that come stuffed with chcken, rice, lettuce, beans....white cheese...etc. I have yet to try any menudo or pozole, but they do make it The most authenitic mexican food I have had outside of, well...Mexico. It's probably my favorite place in town, honestly. (Other than maybe The Bookery). Get the carnitas or carne asada. Wow!!!! I could eat those for days. We usually get take out. If you eat in, they have piles of warm, fresh tortilla chips and three delicious salsas. If you are taking out, you can fill up one of the brown bags with chips and fill up containers for salsa...for free. Turned out I called at exactly closing time, but they took my order anyway and stayed open for me to come pick it up. 5 stars for that! And their burritos are BEYOND ENORMOUS! This was my very first time coming here. I have driven by it many times and wanted to try it out for my wedding anniversary. While everything was absolutely delicious my order was messed up and the cashier had a attitude problem. We asked for black beans but received refried bean. When my husband asked for hot sauce the cashier rudely pointed to the hot sauce and exclaimed rudely the direction. We ordered to go so didn't notice until we were already home our order wasn't right. The enchilada sauce is absolutely delicious and so are the churros. read more
