Phenomenal find! Stopped in Placerville on the way to Tahoe. We were hungry. Paco's Taqueria was open. Great ambiance with libre masks on the walls and a very welcoming gentleman inviting us to sit down. Ordered margaritas while perusing the menu. Margs were VERY good! I noticed things on the menu I was unfamiliar with. Pack said it's cuisine from Mexico City. I ordered the Campechano (asada & chorizo) burrito and my date ordered a carnitas quesadilla. Burrito was HUGE! And extremely flavorful. Pack was quite attentive but casual and comfortable. What a gem! I will definitely be back to try other offerings from the vast menu. First time there with a large family tonight. Food was awesome. No complaints there. However, the waitress tried something very dishonest when it came time to pay. Glad I paid attention. Hope this is not common practice... Once it was time for payment, we were brought over a cc machine that had the screen shown "add tip" amount with the percentages showing. We were shown no bill or breakdown. It seemed $20 more than what we should be charged. I told my husband that amount wasn't right and asked to see a receipt or break down. She then went back and rolled through it. The tip had been automatically added already! So she had tried to get me to pay another gratuity on top of the original bill and gratuity. When I told her that was very misleading she mumbled something about how that was just the way it shows. I was like "If gratuity is automatically added you need to tell people. And you dont just give them a screen to add a tip without showing them the bill - that is very misleading and is more than a double tip. It was as if she was counting on us not paying attention due to 5 little kids." Luckily, I always do math in my head. My husband almost just paid it. So if you go, make sure they show you the full receipt so you can check it before you pay. And watch out to see if they add an automatic gratuity. Never seen a restaurant not show what you are paying for... and just show you a screen asking for a tip. Looked incredibly dishonest. Would love to have a manager contact me as it felt as this has been done before. No print out of the receipt was given either. So I could see them doing this often. I've been to the Paco's in Pollock Pines which I totally dig. But I haven't been to the Paco's in Placerville. So on a recent lazy weekend, I tried them out. Glad I did. The food was yummy. Our waiter was terrific. I ordered Rojas chicken posole. It was served in a big ole bowl that was bigger than my Charlie Brown head. The broth had a good flavor. The shredded cabbage was served already mixed in the posole. The posole was topped with chopped onions, dry oregano, and chopped cilantro with lime wedges served on the side. I'm used to everything served on the side including the cabbage. I like to control the quantity of toppings. A bit of a control freak. Next time I'll ask for the items on the side. The posole had a lot of shredded cabbage and hominy. Each spoonful had a textured crunch from the cabbage. Slurping and chomping my posole. The hominy was soft and tender without being mushy. The complimentary chips n salsa were divinely delicious. Salsa was packed with flavor, nice thickness. No watery soupy salsa here. The chips were crisp and light. This Paco's is a sit down casual restaurant while the one in Pollock Pines is counter service. Both have a fun luchador theme that's understated without being outrageous. This location has a bar in the dining room shared space. The atmosphere can get rambunctious. Not rowdy but rambunctiously loud. read more

After stumbling across Paco's taqueria in Pollock Pines, we had to try the OG location! We stopped by on our way to Tahoe on a Friday and got the chile verde lunch special, queso birria tacos and horchata to share. We gulped down the horchata. Totally hit the spot on a hot day. The queso birria tacos were loaded with meat and cheese, and I was so happy they were served with multiple lime wedges! The dipping sauce was so flavorful too. Highly recommended! The chile verde plate was ok, not much pork up in there. In comparison, we had the chile verde burrito at the taqueria and were super happy with it. Will probably stick with the tacos and burritos in the future, but overall a solid choice in Placerville! read more

Came in for lunch after being up in Applehill all day was craving Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. Being from SoCal and moving up here earlier this year I've been having a hard time finding good Mexican food. I tried the Carne Asada tacos with rice and beans the meat was seasoned very well. A wonderful time at Paco's! We'd just left Apple Hill and I was craving a taco. The Yelp community recommended Paco's and the foodie pics led our car right to the front door! We walked in and greeted by Roxanna. There were two patrons at the bar; the lady, who I came to know at Gwen (regular patron) had a tough day and stopped by to enjoy a strawberry lemonade margarita. Hubby and I ordered pomegranate and prickly pear blended margaritas...DEElicious! For dinner, we put Ms. Rozanna in the hot seat and asked what her favorites were, since it was our first time dining at Paco's. Hubby went with carnitas burrito and carne asada taco and I ordered the al pastor taco and carnitas taco. Listen, order the al pastor AND the carnitas...this is not a debate! As a lifelong lover of Mexican food, everybody doesn't do al pastor and carnitas right. Paco's nailed both! Portions are very generous; I had to remove some of the meat from my tacos and still had enough to make two more tacos! Creamy refried beans. The rice was bland and on the dry side, but mix it with your beans or add some salsa. Ms. Roxanna took excellent care of us; she was one of the highlights of our visit! read more

I was excited to try this place but boy did I regret it! Please take this warning, never eat here. Worst taco salad I've had in my life & worst overall meal I've ever been served. Zero, ziltch meat, maybe 10 diced tomatoes and an entire head of shredded iceberg lettuce! They literally give you a head of iceberg lettuce & call it a taco salad & charge you $15. I can go to a grocery store to get a head of lettuce for $3 if that's what I wanted for dinner. Unfortunately I was double screwed since I ordered 2 so I paid $34 for 2 heads of lettuce! My mistake for ordering takeout and not checking until I got home. I will never eat here again. I've been to countless Mexican restaurants throughout my life, not once was I served just lettuce. It's horrible to think a restaurant would serve this and charge people $15. Highly concerning how this place is screwing people over daily. read more

Oh Paco your standards are so low your mentors would be very disappointed. Yelp failed me on this one or people in Hangtown just have no idea about Mexican food. Plain and simple everything came out of a can. Salsa seemed like a mish-mash of various jars all mixed together - one fire roasted and another pico de gallo but nothing fresh about it. Beans were bland and were nothing more special than El Mexicano or Rosarita. Enchilada sauce was bright red so a dead giveaway for food dye that comes from a canned sauce. Oh yeah and no shredded beef, only ground beef?? All served up on a cold plate so the rice was not hot when delivered. All four of us dining had the same experience. Also how annoying is it when the server will not bring an itemized receipt but instead brings only the device to the table to swipe your card?! Ambiance in the restaurant is so so. Typical corona decor everywhere and hard chairs with tables no booths. Definitely no cozy vibes. The best part of the meal was a modelo. read more

Best Mexican food in Placerville! My go-to is the Chile Verde, queso, and the tortilla soup. The Chile Verde is so tender and flavorful, I always opt for pinto beans, which they do very well. Refried are good too, but I prefer whole beans. They have a red and a green salsa, and both of them are fresh and delicious. Sometimes on the weekends they have pozole, which is amazing, if they have it while you're there, order it. The birria is also really good, but it is only on the special board sometimes.. you can't always get it, but when you do it is definitely worth the try. I have eaten almost everything on this menu (besides seafood) and I keep going back. I literally lived on this food (takeout) once a week during the pandemic lockdown. Paco is the owner and he is always there and so nice and helpful. They don't have liquor, but they make a variety of wine margaritas and several beers on tap. If you are in Placerville or driving through on your way to Tahoe, give them a try! read more

Absolute best Mexican food in the Placerville region. The margaritas are fabulous and giant. My favorites are the Chile Verde tostado, any of the tacos but especially the fish taco, and the chole relleno. That being said pretty much everything there is really good. Also the prices are way cheaper than any of the other Mexican restaurants worth eating. The owners are very friendly and nice. If you're hungry in the area then definitely give them a try Well worth the search to find them, they are in the strip mall but the view from the street is blocked by another business. read more

Came here around 5 PM on a Monday night with my husband and our infant. We were quickly greeted when we walked in and picked our seat. Since it was our first time taking our infant to a restaurant, we sat closest to the door incase we needed to make a quick exit with the baby. We were the only ones in the restaurant besides staff. We had two servers. One who brought drinks, chips, and salsa. She was very attentive and super nice. Our main server who took our order, brought out food and the bill had very much of "idgaf" attitude. She even had a rude tone with my husband when she was bringing out out entrees, letting him know the dish was heavy to hurry up and move things out of the way. She was very off putting and we preferred to deal with the first girl. My other complaint was there was a lot of loud cursing coming from the staff in the back that we were able to hear at the front of the restaurant. My husband and I both curse, so no judgement there, but it seems really unprofessional when the guests can hear it all the way in the front of the restaurant. Finally, on to the food. We should have known it wasn't going to be very good by the chips and salsa that came out. The salsa tasted weird (some ingredient I can't put my finger on - possibly canned tomatoes) and the chips were cold. My husband ordered the Chile verde and I ordered the fish tacos. Both meals were edible, but definitely not something we would come back for. I've had better Mexican food at A LOT of different restaurants before. We also ordered a michelada and a 32 oz. margarita. My husband and I agreed the drinks were the best part of the meal. The drinks were extremely cheap. $6 for the michelada and $12.50 for the margarita, which is a steal. I felt the food was a little overpriced for how it tasted. My husbands dish was $20, while 3 fish tacos were $16.50. Overall, probably won't be back for food. Met a friend in Placerville at Paco's. I found it online, it had good reviews so we tried it out. Really cool place. It's got a mexican wrestling mask theme with unique and interesting art that makes it fun.
