This is the best Thai food in Virginia. Let me put that out there again: THIS IS THE BEST THAI IN VA. Our favorite dishes are the Thai Basil Chicken (ground with a fried egg and white rice) and the Chiang Mai ramen with the chicken thigh. Both of these dishes are signature to the restaurant, and made beautifully and you can find even better versions of them at their parent restaurant, Sense of Thai in Loudon. The flavors in their dishes are unmatched, perfectly balance sweet, sour, coconut, salt and spice. Thai done right. You couldn't get better in DC. read more

I have been here 3x with my boyfriend and today was probably the last. The first two times we went for their Christmas pop up. The drinks, staff and food were great. The place can get a bit loud because it's always crowded when we've been. Today we were sat next to the kitchen and when we looked down as we left we found a roach scattering around. It's a shame because their food is delicious. I threw away my left overs. Probably won't go back. There's a new Thai place next to my house that's on par with this place. We were excited to check out this restaurant to satisfy our late-night cravings. We arrived a little after 10 PM, and while the interior looked nice and modern, we were disappointed to find that the dining area was closed, and only the bar section was open. Moments after we sat down, we were informed that it was the last call for drinks and food. This was confusing since both Apple Maps, Google, and their website indicated that the restaurant was open until 1 AM from Sunday to Thursday, and until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Please update your operating hours on these platforms to prevent other customers from being misled and wasting their time, as we noticed other customers trying to get in around 11 PM only to find the doors locked. We quickly ordered our food before the kitchen closed, but the menu did not indicate whether the dishes were spicy, nor were we asked about any allergies. Unfortunately, the food we ordered turned out to be spicy, which was not suitable for us. The customer service was just okay. Generally Tiki Thai is great. I've been coming for years and is my go-to Thai spot in the area. However, about 20% of the time the experience is not great. Either getting an order wrong, inconsistent spice level, or in this case, an inedible entree. I decided to try something different in the pulled pork tacos and ended up gagging after taking a bite. One of the two tacos was entirely comprised of pork fat. Not some fat mixed in with shredded pork- just huge chunks of thick fat. This was the thick layer of fat that is typically removed from a pork butt, not a melt-in-your mouth pork belly type. (See picture). Not sure how someone could prepare an entire taco with 5-6 pieces like this unintentionally. The 2nd taco was filled with flavorful pork meat, but half of my entree was inedible. read more

First time visiting but definitely not my last. Came here for lunch with coworkers and sat borderline inside and outside. It was great and it was very refreshing with a nice breeze despite the hot temperatures. Great deal on their lunch menu with an appetizer and an entree for $15. However, limited selections for entrees. Got the Gyoza for my appetizer and the dough was very light and contained a lot of filling with a nice flavorful sauce. I then opted for the ginger chicken teriyaki. It came with a scoop of rice and a nice very flavorful dish with a good portion size that was just filling enough for lunch time. My coworkers got similar meals to mine as we all ordered the same appetizer. But they got the chicken cashew and the chicken pad Thai. It looked good but I was glad I got what I got. We started with an order of cracklin pork rinds and they were delicious and still crackling when they got to the table. I look forward to coming back again for dinner and trying out one of their delicious drinks and also a different entree from their main dinner menu. Tiki Thai has always been a great spot for small bites and drinks. There is nothing wrong with the food or service from the waiters/kitchen staff, but there is an issue with one of the bartenders. A bartender, that was working on the farthest right, has been nothing but rude to everyone that was sitting at the bar. They were extremely condescending, snarky, and did not care. More than 10 people had complained about their mannerisms and did not enjoy their vibes. I encouraged others to get drinks from the other two bartenders because they were super friendly (drinks were yummy)! Of course, this does not mean I will not go to Tiki Thai anymore, however I wish there to be an improvement of this person. read more

Ok place for an average Happy Hour. Happy hour portions are extremely small and cocktail alcohol is definitely lower shelf. Found their shrimp taco to be good as well as tofu appetizer. Calamari was soggy and uninspired. Bar tenders seem to be friendly and cheerful. As I visit this place more and more I'm beginning to see flaws. we've had take outs and eaten inside this restaurant several times. We've noticed that they water down sauces which come with their appetizer with their take outs, but ordering the same appetizer in house, they give you thicker sauces. On the weekend when we visited to eat in-house around 3pm, the male server was also fairly rude, although the place wasn't packed they had closed part of the restaurant down and were only letting people sit in a limited area. I had never heard of this place until recently. I made a reservation and had to up the number a few times. Keep in mind, they will not seat you until your whole party is present. When we arrived, there were 2 more. The staff did not like this. I finally asked them to just split us up. When we sat down, they found a way to make it work which we were very appreciative for. The food came out quickly. Also keep in mind that this isn't traditional thai food. (Ie you wont' find pad see ew on the menu). They have a whole drink menu which looks delicious. Food comes out relatively quick and they are generally good about working around substitutions and such. Updated that the only thing is a negative about this place is trying to talk to someone. Don't be fooled by the interior. The food was terrible, it all looks and tastes like it's been reheated. I got the lo-mein which was sickeningly overdressed with soy sauce. I was here with my friends (less than 6) and the service fee wasn't automatically applied. I came here the next day, and the server profiled my family (less than 6) and they auto-charged us the service fee. According to the manager, they allow their waiter to subjectively decide whether or not they want to auto-charged service fee based on how the server "feel"whether or not the party will tip. This is clear profiling, in which the manager denies and said it's up to server so they feel, in his words, "secured" for getting tipped. In this day and age, I can't believe this kind of discriminatory act is still happening, especially in the hospitality industry. I hope they do something about it, but unlikely since the manager didn't take our feedback well and instead kept trying to make his argument. The vibe with the exposed bar to the outdoor seating is great for a beautiful day. There is a huge selection of fun fun cocktails and when I went, there were special Songkran (Thai New Year) drinks. We started with the Tiki and Thai shots which were tasty. I ordered the Cotton Mouth where they put some cotton candy in the glass and pour the mixture on top of it. The result was a sweet sparkling wine. I also tasted another Songkran drink, the Banana Republic, and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. Also tried the V.S.O.C. which sorta reminded me of a Moscow Mule. The drinks weren't the only thing tasty here. We ordered the steamed dumplings, pu pu platter, and pineapple fried rice. The dumplings were ok but everything on the pu pu platter was delicious. I loved the heaven beef and the Phuket rangoon was amazing. The fried rice was a pretty big portion and tasty as well. I had a really great experience here and highly recommend it to others for a chill but fun meal. read more

This is a great spot for Thai food! I haven't tried anything that I don't like here. My personal favorites are the Panang curry and the Pat pad Thai. Both are a bit spicy so make sure you can handle some spice otherwise ask for it mild. The panang curry is pretty traditional but well done. The pat pad thai is their version of pad thai and is a bit spicy and has bok chou both of which I'm a fan of. Their drink menu is so interesting. I've never seen anything like it. It shows you how strong the drink is comparatively with the other drinks. I liked the colada punch (not too strong haha). Also, make sure to save room for dessert! I don't always order dessert when I go out to eat but I've never left this restaurant without ordering dessert. The mango experience is sooooo good and big enough to share if you want. This restaurant is so cute. I am glad I got to check this place out, it really feels like you're on vacation and not in Virginia. The ambiance is such a tropical feeling. I sat outside with a large group in the sun. They are known for their cocktails and have a nice list with pictures on the menu for you to choose from. Tasty cocktails and we ordered food, an everything tasted amazing! They have a brunch menu with pandan waffles (I highly recommend, especially if you like pandan), the curry crab dip, the curry rice, their rangoons. Was driving around in Reston/Herndon and came by a strip of restaurants and fast food places right outside of Reston Town center. We were going to forgo this area mainly because we were craving Asian food and most of the places only had American food options. Then we stumbled across GEM right around the corner from Coopers Hawk and a burger place. What caught our eye was the very welcoming and fun decor. The staff was decked out in Hawaiian shirts and very happy to see us. We were seated right away which is always great. The menu offers all of the usual Thai dishes including Papaya Salad, Pad Thai, Drunken noodles, and Curry. They also offer some interesting twist and takes on combining Thai inspired dishes with other Asian dishes. We decided to go with the drunken noodles with chicken and a braised beef salad. Both entrees caught our eye immediately when they came out. They were hot, colorful, and smelled delicious. The noodles were cooked with a slight char, the vegetables were cooked just enough and still had a crunchy bite, and the braised beef was good when paired with the salad (it was a little salty by itself). To top it all off, we decided to try one of their new cocktails! It really completed the meal and made everything that much more enjoyable. Just take a look at how great it looks in the photo. Would highly recommend this place to everyone! We will be regulars here when we are in the Reston/Herndon area. read more
