I have a 2016 Acura TLX. I thought it was possessed with all the issues it had. Periodically, All the service lights (idiot lights) would come on at once. Then the car alarm would start going off. Then the headlights would turn on 5 minutes after the car was parked and turned off. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new battery . The next morning the battery was dead and the car wouldn't start. The car has an extended used car warranty so I went to a mechanic who covered it and he couldn't figure out what was going on. I brought It to Tilden and they thankfully did figure it out. The alternator was shot, and it needed a module for the headlights. They were professional and kept me in the loop about what was being done. I HIGHLY recommend Tilden and will definitely be back -but hopefully not for a while unless the Acura is possessed again. ‍ read more

Normal servicing left me stranded in another state after a 3 hour drive, even though I informed them that I was taking this trip. After having it repaired in another state (in order to drive home), it broke down from other issues related to the initial servicing of Tilden, once again. Recently I had a terrible problem with my Volvo. The coolant was leaking out of the reservoir as fast as I could pour it in! All my trusted mechanics were far away. I wanted to find someone nearby to tow my car to fix it as soon as possible. Tom from Tilden was very professional. Just by talking to him you can tell he is extremely knowledgeable about cars. On the same day, by day's end, my reservoir and one hose was replaced, and my car was ready to drive. I thought the fee was reasonable. Overall, I felt very secure being here. I've been here many times, for both inspections and repairs. They were recommended to me by two different people. They do a good job and I've never had complaints about their work (and I DO have complaints about every other place I've been, so that's saying something). They print out a detailed bill with the parts and labor itemized, which is great for your records and for the usual "God, why did that cost so much?" I've gotten a few big repairs done elsewhere, thinking it would save me money, but I regretted it. The other places were just as expensive and didn't do as good of a job, which will ultimately cost you even more when it fails prematurely. The downside is that they are expensive, and they try to do stuff that's not strictly necessary. (Especially for someone like me who is used to fixing the easy stuff myself. I can replace the starter, brakes, and spark plugs myself, guys. I'm definitely not gonna pay you to replace the friggin' windshield wipers.) A few times they've done this extra stuff without asking, but they usually ask first. If you're good at saying "No, not today", you'll be fine. read more

I have been taking my car(s) to Tilden in Mineola for the last 10 or so years. Last year I moved to the Huntington area and figured I would still give them my business because they have been so great in the past (Bill and Chino are the best btw!) I took my car here to prep it for a track day I was going to. I asked them for a full brake fluid flush and to add in a new high performance brake fluid, and I asked them to check on my tires to make sure they were okay for the track. I picked up my car and everything seemed fine, then a few days later I went to the track. When I got there, the track inspectors look over your car before they let you on the track and the inspector saw that my brake fluid reservoir was filled to the very top, I had to even siphon some out in order for them to let me race. My tires were also over inflated, I hadn't touched them since bringing them to the shop and the tires were cold when I checked the pressure. The tire thing could be a freak thing, but the brake fluid isn't. I won't be bringing my car back here due to that alone. How do you specialize in brakes and then fill up my reservoir past the "max fill" line? read more

Not usually the one to complain, I'm pretty simple and logical. But had to get this one off the chest. When bringing your vehicle to a mechanic you want it fixed, not for it to be worse off. I understand they "tried" but over my vehicle being off and on with them for a 2 weeks span the problem was not resolved. Instead I'm out $700 and with the same issue I had before. Thought a well known company would have some dignity and pride for their brand but I can't say they had any. I have a commuter car and do not need all the bells and whistles. Top dollar is not what I'm looking for but they continued to put in parts that weren't needed at a extremely high price and putting me in a corner to pay without disclosing beforehand. 0 communication 0 customer service. Told me that my concerns were "bullshit" and that I didn't know what I was talking about. Nowadays it's hard to pay top dollar for anything let alone car parts. Willing to spend the money needed but definitely not willing to get taken advantage of either. Had to contact better business bureau. read more

Tom is a great and trustworthy partner who not only will tell you what is wrong with your car but will help explain why the issue happened and how to prevent it. Not only do I feel like I have a mechanic, but I feel like I have a teacher too! Brought in my van to have AC replaced and windows were not going down. Though van was dropped off, it took Tilden 2 days for the repair. Was informed they checked EVERYWHERE and the couldn't locate the reason why 3 of the 4 windows would not drop. Tom said they had to reset the computer and now all the windows work. Price was $950 for both repairs. 12 hrs later heading into work attempted to lower windows, again 3 of the 4 were not working. Notified Tom, he was gracious told me to bring her in. Dropped the van off Thurs night. I get a call at 1230 Friday asking why the van is in there? Pass by the shop, van is yet to enter a bay it's 2pm. I call at 2:30 for update, I get told they are working on the issue. I ask the mechanic will van be repaired by 530 he tells me he has no idea. 4 30 no call I drive down, how am I the 1st car in and the last car out!?! Manager tells me van is ready. It's an additional $288. 2 hrs of labor. $144 per hr!?! That's more than a dealer. They spent 2 days, misdiagnosed the problem and I have to pay additional $? They didn't even work 2 hrs on the van and I already over paid for an AC and window repair. They now claim it was a broken wire. Why didn't they locate that the 1st 2 days they had it!?! This is nothing less than robbery. Do yourself a favor and stay away! read more

I brought my car here for a Carco and NYS inspection in January and was told that my front brake pads were at 10%. They passed me on inspection but said that I should let them replace the pads at ~$265. This sounded expensive for 1 hour of labor and parts. I decided to head back to Philadelphia, where I live temporary, under the assumption that I'd find a mechanic to replace the pads for a better price. Not only did I get quoted ~$90 less for the pads and labor, but also when they inspected the car they found that my brake pads were at at LEAST 40%. Feels pretty dishonest. Not only did they grossly over charge my Aunt, I even called the dealership-which is notoriously more expensive and they were $220 cheaper-my own mechanic was $300 cheaper. But, they didn't give her the 10% senior discount either. They also make her wait sometimes hours for an oil change-despite having an appointment. She never complians so I feel she gets forgotten. She also never quetions her bill so they are free to charge whatever. They also replace her brakes at least one a year and she only drives locally. Incidently, this is the third time I've attempted to write a review and it has yet to be posted. Guess the truth hurts. read more

A few months ago our daughter bought a jeep from a used car dealer. When she brought in it home, we all took a ride in it and noticed some rattling and rumbling so we decided to bring it in to Tilden for inspection. They immediately found some fairly extensive hidden damage with the car, so with that information we went back to the dealer and told him what our mechanic had found some problems with the jeep. The dealer than said " Most mechanics don't know what they're talking about, who's your mechanic?" We told him Tilden and his response was one of resignation, he obviously knew who they were and that their assessment of the car 's condition would prevail. A day later, the dealer personally brought the car to Tilden, having repaired the damage, for Tom's stamp of approval. It does matter who your mechanics are. They always take care of my (really old) cars, explain all my options (prioritizing in consideration of my budget) and make sure I don't have to wait any longer than necessary.
