Be warned!!!! You cannot return any items here. That said, they have a decent selection and if you have the eye for design, you can come out on the cheaper side of tile if you know what you are doing. Tile outlet is pretty much a self-service kind of place. They do offer some design options but really they do not take any ownership for what they suggest. You are on your own and if you make a selection, know that you own it. One thing that I really do like about the place is that they let you take as many samples as you like to see how the tile looks in your place and how it might look against other stone in different lighting conditions. I use Tile Outlet for my kitchen backsplash. It really looked like it should have gone better with my counter top than it did. Well, my second experience with Tile Outlet is about as disappointing as the first. Came in last Saturday to look for back splash tiles. No greeting, no offer to assist. When I went to the counter to ask about a price, the guy was nice. However, as we walked around one guy was swearing, "What the F?!" over and over. Then, a customer in the phone was clearly asking about her order. He said approximately, "We did call you. Is xxx-xxxx your number? Yeah we called you. Yes we did." Flash forward to today. Yes - my fault for waiting until the last minute, but I live about 5 minutes from their showroom. I got in the car at 7:52 and started calling to ask them to pull 3 samples that we liked, that I would be there right at 8. Not complicated. No answer. Called again. No answer. Kept calling. No answer. Pulled up at 8. All dark inside. Maybe they're instructed to close if they're slow just before closing. But, I can tell you, I'm not feeling their customer service. This place has tons of options. Have measurements when you go in, and maybe a slight idea of wht you want- otherwise you'll want to buy EVERYTHING! The people was just the right amount of helpful. They dont hover but they are never too far away. My one complaint is my fault. I bought a tile and when I brought it (6 hours) home, I realized it wasn't ONE tile, but a mixture of FOUR different patterns. I wish that it somehow had been made known to me. Not only did I miss the 7 day return period...I was 6 hours away. Again, my fault but I had no idea- there was no indication- the tile was multiple pattern. It was from Italy and beautiful, just not what I expected or intended for that area. read more

We bought $750 of tiles in total. When I opened four boxes of tiles I found approx 25 to 50% were broken. I called to complain and request replacement. They didn't have any and said they would call back. They never called back in response to this. I also sent an email which they did respond to a week and a half later. They claimed they had sold us four boxes and had "thrown" in some boxes with broken tiles as well as unbroken. I had no recollection of this and neither had my husband. I told the guy we had found a solution...end of call. I checked our bill of sale. We paid full price for seven boxes. There is no way on earth we would have paid for broken tiles. Buyers, protect yourself by checking every unopened box or be prepared to be lied to. This is an honest account of our experience. read more

Don't bother going to Tile Outlet. Their customer service stinks (really). You need to ask a worker more than once to come out from behind the counter before they'll help you. Their return policy is ridiculously short - 20 days! The workers don't know where the different tile sizes and styles are in the store. I asked for a specific size and they said they didn't have any. On my way out of the store, I found the EXACT tiles I was looking for. They are way overpriced too. You can find a better selection for a more reasonable price elsewhere. If I could give a zero star review, I would. Don't bother going there. read more

Tile Outlet is great. Let me name the ways--First, the selection of tile for backsplashes is really truly unsurpassed. Was very impressed. Second, the price is stellar. Cheapest prices I saw on glass tile mosaics, had tons of color and texture options; I ended up going with a brick marble mosaic that was only $7.25 a square foot. Considering I had seen similar things for about $20, I was very happy indeed. Particularly when they offered to give me what was left in stock for less than what I was going to pay (score!). Third, they'll let you take a sample, seriously. Didn't have to give them money, credit card, indentured servitude. They were very chill about it, which was appreciated. Fourth, there is parking. Granted, the drive isn't fun, but you're going to need a car so you can cart home your exciting new tile. I will say that their selection of floor tile could be better. They definitely have good natural stone options, but if you're looking for ceramics then you're probably going to be disappointed. they did have some contemporary stuff at a good price though, but other than that, there were some eye sores. Note, you are also not able to return any excess natural stone. Those are the breaks. But considering the cost, still a very worthwhile place. read more

During the pricing phase for a recent remodel, I went to Tile Outlet first and I'm so glad I did because they really raised the bar. I found gorgeous, reasonably priced tile immediately, and everyone was extremely helpful. I realize there is a no returns policy on special orders, but when the tile came in, it did not look like the sample that we saw in the store. This place has no parking and is a somewhat inconvenient area. The set-up was a bit confusing. The staff was non-existent, we never saw a one. Once we found something we were interested in and decided to try to find a staff member they ended up turning out all the lights to the sides of the store... where the product we were interested in was and where we were standing. Odd thing was that it wasn't even closing time, it was 14 minutes before closing time. I guess they wanted to get a jump in their Sat night and drive any customers or potential customers out by showing how they just didn't care anyone was there. At that point we left the store, drove 5 miles away and happily spent well over $1000 at another tile store that actually had friendly staff and wanted our business. Will never go back here, would never recommend this place... what a waste of time. read more

This is one of the better tile stores I've ever been to. This is where trendy tile overstock goes to die, so you have to sift through a lot of really ugly crap, but they have some incredible deals on natural stone tile. And they have tons and tons of various natural stone tiles. You can get natural stone staritng at around $1/sf for certain types (slate is cheapest usually). Travertines and what not are often around $4/sf, but it varies on what specifically you pick. They have a small clearance area of closeout items where you can pick up smaller quantities for a steal. I've bought from them in two different places I've had. The first time, I bought a reddish marble for a kitchen floor ($5/sf). The marble looks great. The tiles were Chinese... A bit fragile, I broke a number of them cutting and/or placing them into the mortarbed. In the end, I still came in within my 10% waste though. The other project we got a bunch of travertine from them for a bathroom, and two different closeouts for a shower floor. Their stock changes sometimes but often times they have the same stuff for a long time. Some of the more common stones tend to stick around and they always have tons of varieties. They have a small selection of granite pre-fabricated counter-tops as well. They do sell grout, but their grout selection kind of sucks... Particularly their color choices for sandless grout are really bad/limited, so you'll probably end up at HD for that. You do have to know pretty much exactly the quantity you need... I don't understand why people are moaning on here about them not letting them return their excess tile... Their policy on refunds is VERY clear (posted on signs throughout the store, and its in big letters on your receipt): NO REFUNDS. So if you buy too much, you have to eat that cost. They can help you estimate what you might need (i think the rule of thumb is your SF + 10%), but if its something they have a lot of and its not terribly out of your way, you're almost better off not buying much extra and just going back as you're wrapping the project up to get exactly the right finishing amount. (Assuming its a boxed tile where the "lot" doesn't matter much...) It's a very "self service" type of place... you go here for cheap tile, not to learn how to tile from their sales people. Also, unlike most other tile stores... you go in and get what you need.... There's no ordering and waiting, what they have is what they have. Also, as far as I know they don't give out contractor's discounts. Which is good, particularly if you're a DIYer that means you're really getting the best deal. Other places might charge double for the same thing, then offer a 30% contractor's discount (so a DIYer is getting gouged more). Basically, if they have what you are actually wanting there's no cheaper place. read more

First time customer experience: Pretty good selection and great prices but, and that's a big BUT.. beware when a salesman tells you that you can return any unopened boxes. My salesman offered up the notion when I said I might be a little over on my measurement of a kitchen backsplash. "No problem" when asked again about returning unopened overages while helping me load $500 worth of tile into my car. I didn't see any signs about the policy. So I was going along with what the floor sales guy was telling me. Like you do, right? So after my install I call Tile Outlet to confirm that I can return unopened tile boxes (3) and I hear: "This happens all the time....you're telling me that....but we don't say that to our customers." So this guy was pretty much saying I was lying, and apparently, so was everyone else who got suckered in the same way I did. And that was that. That very brief call was like talking to the Grim Reaper about a postponement. I didn't make a stink because I realized I was screwed. What you see is what you get. Tiles are displayed, with boxed product you can buy right underneath. Close-out tiles are located in the front of the store, under the window. You can find some good deals there. We bought tiles for our entryway and half bath remodel from Tile Outlet and had no problems. With a little bit of math, we were able to buy the proper quantity and not have to worry about having way too much. I will say their return policy is a short amount of time, so do be careful of this. We did have a tile return and had no problems with it, getting our money back. I just returned to look for backsplash tiles and they had exactly what I wanted - marble subway tiles. I did research online and in other stores for them and Tile Outlet was the cheapest. Right on the display for the tiles was the warning that this item could not be returned. I asked one of the salesmen why and he said it was because people would go through the box, picking the tiles they likes (for example, ones that were mostly white, without and grey on them), and then make a box to return of the tiles they didn't want (ones with grey striations.) It's a pain, but it does make sense. Parking is pretty bad though. We went close to when the store opened on a Sunday and didn't have trouble, but there were only a couple spots left. Getting the tiles to your car is easy - they bring it out to a loading bay for you. Prices are generally pretty good. For all the tile I've needed in our house re-model thus far, we've come to Tile Outlet. I'm sure we'll be back once it's time to update the fireplace. read more

I am a building manager and a frugal guy. I shop Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Tile Shop and various on line shops and I think Tile Outlet is great! They have wide selection, they will let me buy material and text the receipt to my installer for pick up, they answer you in a useful manner about how to go after a project. I cannot understand why anyone would buy porcelain or stone anywhere before he looks to see what he can get from Tile Outlet. I was out shopping yesterday at all the big boxes and I talked to Tile Shop. In all instances, Tile Outlet was a better alternative. I will say this: I wish they delivered. read more

I'm remodeling my bathroom and putting a backsplash in my kitchen, so I decided to check out this Tile Outlet place that I've been seeing on television ever since I can remember. Doesn't hurt that it's only a few blocks from where I live, either. Anyway. Tile Outlet certainly has a far better selection than Home Depot or Lowe's or any of those types of places. It's not swank like the places in the Merchandise Mart, but they do have some nice displays to give you some design ideas, and usually at least a square foot or so of the tile mounted and on display for you. And they seriously have everything - ceramic, glass, marble, slate, travertine... you get the idea. Because of the large selection, you can definitely get overwhelmed. What's great, though, is they will let you borrow pieces of tile so you can take it home and see how it looks. Even better, it's totally on the honor system! They don't even ask for a phone number. If you haven't gone through the tile selection process, this may not seem like a big deal, but LET ME TELL YOU. It's amazing how many things look great in the store, but just don't work with your slightly busy granite that is more beige and less concrete looking than you realized! Seriously, kids, it probably took me about 10 tries to find a tile I liked for my backsplash. Do not underestimate the value of being able to take something home and check it out. The prices are good, but they don't have guaranteed stock - so if you're pretty much in love with something, buy it now or it may not be there when you go back. Yep, it happened to me. But you know what? Totally my fault - I knew the deal there and I didn't get my act together and go back. That said, they were GREAT about finding me a very similar tile, and I'm equally happy with the one I ended up buying. The staff is great - very friendly, and they have great suggestions. I'm confused about negative reviews on here, though true, I've never had a negative experience here. I've bought terra cotta tile, marble tile, glazed tile in cool shapes, had shopped for exterior stone and glass tiles. I usually find something really nice-looking for under and sometimes way under $8/sq foot. I think for my bath I found a lovely black marble (for floor) at around $3.50/sq foot. A great, beautiful smaller-tile to add non-skid to the bath floor for a couple hundred dollars. I have always had great customer service here also, so have not encountered what I see in reviews here, ever.. And I've been here way more times asking tons of Qs more than I have bought here. I can always get samples, also, as another few reviewers mention. I love this place, and wish they had a store in St Paul my new area. read more

I really like this place! I am currently renovating condo bathrooms. I came here a few months ago in search of a specific Moroccan cement tile. They did not have it. However, I noted it is a big place with lots of tile selections. I was back here today as I decided to upgrade the bathroom floor in the 2nd bathroom. I need a fairly neutral white porcelain tile. I was at Floor and Decor and found a few selections. Prices are better here! I picked 3 samples to purchase and went to the cashier. He said we don't charge for samples...just bring them back if they don't work out and pick a few others. Wow! Sure--no one greeted me when I entered like a few other reviews noted but I'm here for price quality and hey....free samples? On a side note, they have lovely tile for shower niches and shower floors. I already purchased my shower niche tile and was a little sad I didn't stop here again. I visited Tile Outlet several times before purchasing my bathroom floor and wall tile there. The staff there is very friendly and helpful as you narrow down on a very wide array of choices that they carry. They will even let you take as many tile samples as you need so you can see how the tile will look in your space. From my experience, there are always a few hiccups when you are doing home projects, so they were very reasonable in exchanging items. Prices are also very competitive and way lower than what I saw at the Tile Shoppe for very similar products. Will definitely be returning for future home projects. read more

A really big selection, lots of granite/marble tiles, even granite counter pieces if you have an off the shelf kitchen, and sometimes some really cool higher end stuff for cheap. Their prices are splendiferous and you don't have to wait for delivery. Far better than anything you'd find at Home Desperate or even Menards, I hate to say. Be forewarned, they are an outlet. No returns kids, read all the signs! And if they run out, they're out so do your math, check it 5 times. While their staff may seem cold and abrupt at first, they really are helpful and decent folk. They'll even load up your car for you. All you gotta do is just ask nicely and they'll let you take some sample tiles too. I like those guys. read more
