We came here for nostalgia. I used to live in the area when The Only first opened. I remember…read morethinking they would do well. Shortly after, I left the Danforth, and, eventually Toronto. But The Only kept coming up in reminisces and we'd check if it was still around, and it was. Today we made it back, and wow, they have done really well. I'm sitting in the cafe part of The Only, and it's fabulous; eclectic and artsy and unpretentious with great coffee, baked goods and nice staff. The original space I would have a beer in years ago is closed. So we'll have to come back another time for a beer. In the meantime I'm listening to animated chatter and a great music as I sip my coffee and enjoy looking around this interesting space.

Besides coffee and lattes, they offer some decent (but not amazing) baked goods, and a variety of water bottles (coconut, sparkling, non-sparkling) and some San Pelegrino sodas. The space is roomy and clean, and a great spot to bring a laptop and do some personal projects. It's comfortable, warm, cozy, and relaxing. It's cleaned well. The bathrooms are clean. Floors, and tables too. Sitting inside feels like you're unbothered and welcomed. Plus the friendly staff even bring you your food once it's heated up to your table. Even now as I write this I see the owner mopping the floors from the salty slush people brought in. Judging by the way they were stacked up like sardines in the display case, I think they are bought from somewhere else and certainly not made in house. It was too dry and lacking the inner chewiness, yet also not flaky or crips on the outside. Instead it was kinda stale. It looked like those ones that come in big boxes at grocery store. Very disappointing. The only good thing is that their street side patio is really nice in the summer. There are ample muskoka chairs with side tables and a bowl of clean water for the dogs. On a weekend morning, there are lots of regulars here and people are very friendly. However, for quality espresso drinks and fresh baked goods, Supernova Coffee up the street is significantly better (and also has a cute patio area).

I kinda just let it go without much pushback because I like Chai too, it was the same price as the Matcha, and I didn't really feel like arguing since I was on vacation, but it was still strange that they looked at that very tan/brownish Latte with cinnamon on top and told me it was matcha. Was even listed as Matcha on my receipt. Seating was pretty nice I guess. Ehh. It's a 3/5 place. Wasn't the worst experience I've had. Wasn't the best. It'll be fine if you are in the area and need a quick bite.

I tend to order various iced teas and food, and prefer Starbucks. On the whole, the folks there seem to know what they are doing, unless they are brand new. That's understandable. If I do order coffee, it has to be heavily flavoured, to mask the coffee aftertaste. I go to Timmy's a handful of times a year. I tend to get food, soup, or steeped tea. Recently, I got word that the TimmyMe app has been discontinued. There was a procedure outlined in an e-mail on how to transfer your balance from your account on TimmyMe to the new Tim Hortons app. I do not go to Timmy's enough to figure out what my password is. Even after resetting it, the procedure failed bigtime. The easier way is to simply log on to the new app and add your Tim Card number there. Done! I figured out that I had $7.14. With my newfound balance that felt like I had won a scratch-and-win lottery ticket, I decided to use it. I visited this Timmy's, which is on my route from work. I have probably frequented this location more than any other in the GTA. The last time I was here was August 23, 2015. Facebook has a fun way of reminding me of my memories. My post that went with my pumpkin spice muffin pic then was as follows: I haven't been to a Timmy's in a while. I decided to break my streak. Me: Can I have a pumpkin spice muffin, please? Woman: We don't have that. Me: Seriously? I'm staring at it. Her sidekick comes over and tells the woman that they do sell these muffins. Perhaps I should start my streak again. Today, I restarted my streak. Instead of walking into the store, I went through the drive-thru. The parking lot isn't exactly roomy, so you need to take care pulling into the drive-thru. I ordered an apple fritter. "No drink?" the woman asked me over the speaker. "Nope, I'm good." I replied. I pulled up to the window and used my app. She pulled out the debit-credit device. After about five seconds, she realized that she needed her scanner. The good news is that her scanner worked and I got my apple fritter. She gave it to me and that was it. I guess that friendliness is lacking today. The apple fritter was okay for $1.25. I could barely find any apple bits. It was essentially sugary dough. In short, I go to Starbucks because I typically have friendlier folks. There seems to be something odd that happens when I come to this location. Today's experience was much better, but the pumpkin spice muffin incident is still fresh in my mind. P.S. The apple fritters at Starbucks may be way more expensive than what you'd pay at Timmy's. After having an early dinner at Denny's after work on Wednesday, I wanted to check out this Timmy's that was in the same plaza. It's a part of a Tim Hortons - Wendy's combo store, which looked massive. There's a drive-thru for both establishments. It is closer to highway 7 than Denny's. Still parked in front of Denny's, I placed an order for these items: - Cadbury mini eggs dream donut - Medium raspberry mojito zero-sugar sparkling quencher I thought the former item being listed on the menu was weird. It screamed Easter to me, but I like pushing boundaries at Timmy's. Is this dream donut supposed to be on the menu or was it an oversight? I paid for my goodies through the app with my Tims gift card. I then drove over to the drive-thru. I got a pleasant woman on the other end of the speaker. She found my order and said that I could drive up to the pick-up window. When I got the window, the woman said that the store didn't have any dream donuts. As expected, staff weren't great with updating the app to reflect that donuts they had. I asked what was comparable. She asked if I wanted Timbits. I asked if I could get ten. She talked to her peers and they said yes. I have said in the past that I'm not great with Tims pricing. It's still true, although I am improving. The FIFA Timbits go for fifty cents for one. A dream donut is $2.49. I could have got five FIFA Timbits. Instead, I got ten regular Timbits. A box of ten assorted Timbits goes for $3.49. I essentially got more bang for what I had originally ordered. Go, me! I got my drink, followed by the cutest FIFA-branded Timbits on the box. I thanked the woman and headed home. I love the raspberry mojito drink these days. It's fizzy, and the raspberry-lime combo is lovely. It was delightful. I had the Timbits when I was at home, consuming them while watching the Marlies game. I loved this assorted box. I got a couple of Timbits with lemon filling. OMG! Where have I been? It's fairly large, as it's a shared location with Wendy's as so many are. It's easily accessible and has plenty of parking in the plaza, which includes a Denny's among other restaurants and shops. I came here most recently to meet a friend in the neighbourhood. I came in and was able to get a plush seat beside the 2-sided fireplace. You also have your tables and loose chairs, and plenty of booths along the windows. I went over to place my order, which was a $1 large ice coffee offered for doing the survey on a previous receipt. There was no shortage of goodies in the display cases, which was neatly filled to capacity with plenty of flavours for bagels, muffins, donuts, etc. The staff correctly made my drink without the cane syrup as requested. She didn't freeze and have any problem processing my receipt for discount. She immediately provided my new receipt as I asked. She was responsive and friendly as well as efficient. I was glad to see that my new receipt has the survey option back again, as my last couple of receipts were missing that. Yes, it's just a Tims, and it is just starting to look like it's going to get tired soon, but it ticks every box for what a proper location should have and be. I'm sure we'll be meeting again here soon, and often.

Tip: This cafe has a drive-thru…read more I seem to be visiting businesses that I have driven by countless times over the years. This Tim Hortons cafe is one of them. On Saturday, I was heading northbound along Highway 7. I needed to use a washroom, as I had been out and about at this stage for three hours and my bladder needed attention. I saw this Tim Hortons on the right and said yes to stopping by. I found a parking spot steps away from the main entrance, which faces Highway 7. I used my umbrella as I walked over. The washrooms are straight ahead when you walk into the cafe. There are two single stalls. I took the first stall, which caters to any gender. The other one is similar, but is built for accessibility. The woman behind me used that one. The stall that I used was clean. No issues. My bladder was happy. I went to check out the baked goods. I saw that there was one lemon blueberry tart left in the display. I had to have it. I got a cheerful woman who fetched this tart for me. Got it! I am still new to how the Tims app works. I learned that I could have my Tims rewards QR code coupled with enabling a payment method. I now have it set to withdraw money from my Tims gift card whenever I have the Tims rewards QR code up. It's the little eureka moments that keep me content and current. The woman asked how I was going to pay. I said with my Tims gift card. I had the QR code scanned. It worked! I got points collected and I paid all at once. Yay! She fetched my tart and placed it in a paper bag. I thanked her and wished her a great day. She reciprocated. I looked at the merchandise before I headed back to my car. I liked the pink beverage flask with a cute bear dangling from it. Adorable! I had my lemon blueberry tart in my car. It was so good. It was flaky with the perfect blueberry filling and lemon flavour. I wish it were on the menu all the time. I'd be a regular TImmy's customer!
