He does my taxes well the last four years! Pleasant time doing it without tension and excess expense we had with another CPA.

6 month follow-up update…read more. I know you may have been waiting with bated breath, so I'll try my best to keep this short. After 20+ additional emails (between both parties), we were finally able to receive our federal and state abatements from 2024. While this is good news and we are pleased with the outcome, it does not negate the unpleasant experience. After the last review, they took note and designated someone to call the IRS on our behalf, instead of repeatedly sending papers in the mail that the IRS would never receive. After receiving the federal abatement, we then had to ask them to help with the state abatement. In case you aren't aware (since I was initially not educated on this matter), you are allowed a 1-time federal and state abatement. Meaning, if you are in good standing, they will erase your fines, but not the interest. Some additional notes: 1. They are a global team, as their new name implies (Unified Global). This means that your team may be located in various time zones and countries. 2. Their software is straightforward and simple to follow, which I did appreciate. 3. Their timelines for filing, in my opinion, do not include a sufficient buffer if you have additional questions and/or corrections. We were asked several times to remove the last review, and after some thought, I have chosen to amend it. Similar to prior Yelpers, I believe that it they have improved their services, my initial review will just be background noise as the one off.

I guess it is time to update my review for the 2025 Tax Planning (not return) season. During my…read morelast review, after ccing as many contacts I had, Arvee Flores reached out and connected me with Michael Dacuma. They offered me a discount to resume Tax Planning and Return service for 2024 (return) + 2025 (planning). I obliged to see as I suspected it was a one time issue with the particular person I got transferred to. Let me go over the process one more time. You get an email to schedule when you want to start uploading documents via a secure portal. The process is roughly the same regardless of tax returns or tax planning. The portal is a check list of sorts in which you upload each key item like your paystub, w2, etc. and mark them as checked off as you acquire them through various online portals. I think this was a great way to help you iteratively step through your accounts and get each required doc. Once all the steps are completed, you'll get an email from AlphaB saying they'll start working on your file. Usually in about 1-2 weeks, you will get the result and an opportunity to schedule a walkthrough. If it is a Tax Return, the process is relatively straight forward. I think the return filing were often trying to minimize my lost to taxes. The planning part. Overall, was much better than when I was assigned to Ma Christina. At least I was not ghosted and I did get a response back to my question. The quality of the response could improve as several times I had to follow up on to clarify my question even further to understand how to process the Tax Plan recommendation or how it relates with the BBB changes. At some points, I wondered if they even read the extra context I had provided or just fed it to AI to give me some response. It was kind of a minor issue but one you hopefully wouldn't have to deal with given the asking price of service. As for the tax plan itself, it was so-so. Perhaps I have exhausted most of my options but I often got the same advice like "consider starting a business." I mean sure but that isn't the easiest and most actionable advice. A simple, "you are doing a great job and you more or less have maximized all tax efficient opportunities..." before bringing up advice to just start a business would be motivating and great preface. Why a 3*? I had 2 requirements for 2025: - Help me plan which lot to sell my stocks - For tax year 2025, to ensure I had near $0 or owe up to $2000. The former was to help with building some down payment funds for a potential home purchase which I had stated would be estimated early 2026 at best or even later. The latter was simply a preference on how I wanted to handle taxes. The first point, I brought this up early in the year and got some formulation on what to sell in 2025 to reach some allocation. I do think they had forgotten to consider stocks vested via ESPP and completely avoided the question when I asked in a follow up. I executed the stock at the cost of later finding out the BBB and SALT cap changes. It would have been great to hear some advise like "here's some calculations on how to be tax efficient with the current price but something to consider is the BBB and rumored SALT cap adjustments you would be losing out..." and proceed to suggest an alternative strategy to best maximize. I'm paying for Tax Planning and personalized advice so I'd hope to have received these "btw" considerations when making moves. Overall, I had about 6 Tax Planning meetings for the Tax Year 2025. These all provided coordination on if we are on the right trajectory to achieve my desired range of owe/receive $0 or owe up to $2000. As a validation experiment, I had requested another CPA/EA (so equivalent credentials) compute my tax returns for 2025. If all the tax planning was correct, I'd be near $0; however, the margin of error was quite excessive in my opinion that I question what was the point of all the Tax Planning prep (gathering docs) and sync (30m per sync) if there's no predictability during tax return season. Lastly, they wanted to charge an additional 10% of service fee to handle 2025 Tax Returns due to the BBB complexity. To me, I wasn't too happy with the service I had received so an extra 10% cost while perhaps warranted didn't seem worthwhile given the subpar service. For reference, my new CPA/EA has offered Tax Advice and Planning for about half the cost and has been providing me illustrations on some tax move considerations under various risk profiles and scenarios given current economic climate. I have also been requested to remove my last review of Ma Christina. I will leave that up as I think others should be aware that there has been a history of complete communication chain break down after paying for financial services. If the situation has truly been resolved, the review itself will be drowned out by positive reviews over time.

At first, they were very responsive, which made me feel comfortable moving forward. But on the day of my appointment, Jason suddenly canceled and told me they could no longer provide a service to me. After I had already provided sensitive information, they said they would delete everything. The whole situation felt extremely unsettling. To make things worse, I tried calling multiple times after receiving the cancellation message, and they didn't answer or return a single call. That lack of communication only made the situation feel even more suspicious. Don't be fooled by the 5‑star reviews. My experience was the complete opposite--last‑minute cancellation, zero professionalism, and no accountability. After everything, it honestly felt like a scam.
