Tim comes to our home a few times a year and works his magic with my silver sheens and palm trees. It all goes from a big shaggy hot mess, to cleaned up and beautiful by the time he's done. He is purposeful in how he trims or cuts, and it never looks like the trees have been carelessly cut. The next door neighbor had someone come and cut them on their side a few years back and that guy hacked so badly that I was devastated. Was turned down by 3 tree trimming companies cuz of the location and size of my Tipuana Tipo. Contacted TIm, exchanged some pics and he agreed to come take a look at it. I knew Tim back around 1988, when he and my father, Jim, were roommates in Huntington Beach, California. I was 19 at the time, and found Tim to be odd, but unmistakably genius in ways that "odd" people seem to exist; as I am also one of those odd people, only slightly different. At first we did not get along all that well. I was a slacker kid who had traveled all over the nation by thumb, picking up crazy stories I would later, unbeknownst to me, write about. We clashed over how life worked or should work at times, but I always found Tim a very interesting character. He worked VERY HARD at his craft. I watched this guy climb palm trees with so much ease it disturbed me... almost like he was a cat or something. Anyway, I get that this sounds more like a love letter than a review, but after watching that guy lay his guts out for HIS craft, while also TRYING (he did, but at the time, he could not know this) to mentor me. Some of that work ethic stuck, some of it didn't, but that wasn't or ISN'T on Tim. For we ALL have to travel our paths and make our own sometimes crappy decisions just to realize there IS a LARGER picture, or... a POINT (an INSIDE bequeathed enlightenment joke was just written). So if there is anyone out there who doubts this guy's work ethic or acumen (not that they would after reading most of these reviews), this post should put those worries to rest. We had Tim out to our house last weekend to remove a dead olive tree from our yard and plant a new tree. He and Ismael did a fantastic job and it wasn't easy. The olive tree was over 40 years old and had a very wide gnarled base but they got it out and had the new tree planted by 12:30pm. Tim went to Green Thumb to pick up the tree we had selected so it was ready to go in the same day the old tree came out. He also trimmed our pygmy date palms--they've never looked so good. Tim is a certified arborist and very knowledgeable--he gave us lots of good tips for the care of our trees and how to get rid of pests without pesticides. Tim is a Certified Horticulturist/Arborist and it was so refreshing to have an in depth conversation about not only the tree he came out to evaluate, but other trees on my property. After a Visual Tree Assesment, he developed a plan to revitalize a 25 year old, 30 foot tall China Doll tree. I paid Tim for the Consultation and then agreed to have him do the recommended work the next day. The consult fee was deducted from the fee for the job.
