From June 6 to June 8, 2012, my friend and I rented a tent site #6 at Timber Trails Resort, located on the south shore of Boy Lake near Walker, Minnesota. (Actually, there are closer towns, such as Remer, Federal Dam and Boy River, but Walker is the largest and best known.) Timber Trails is a small, rustic, very family-friendly resort. It is not like many of the upper mid-west upscale resorts with video arcades, swimming pools and pricey restaurants, but Timber Trails has everything one needs to have a thoroughly enjoyable vacation in the north woods: boats for rent, warm and clean lake water, a great swim area with a stationary floating pontoon/swim raft, a boat ramp, plenty of dock area for one's boat, cabins for rent, firewood reasonably priced, live bait, ice, a small store, a clean and modern restroom and shower, and, importantly, great fellow campers. My tent site with electricity was $31 per night, and being so close to the lake and all the resort amenities made it well worth the price. I didn't go inside any of the cabins, but I could seen into them and they all looked very clean and well-maintained.
Timber Trails Resort is owned and operated by Tom and Kathy Marnik. There's also a young man working there who might be Tom and Kathy's son. All three are very friendly and helpful. When staying at Timber Trails Resort one will feel welcome and relaxed -- and importantly to me, without the feeling that there's always someone looking over your shoulder trying to catch you violating some obscure rule. My vacation there was thoroughly enjoyable and I intend on returning. I loved it there. read more
