Apparently they only have one type of toast, you don't get a choice.
Teirney R.

This place. We've been here a few times over the years - it is essentially the only breakfast spot in Government Camp. Everything is expensive - $6.50 for a generic English muffin is wild. $15 for a short stack - what? These are resort prices and it's so far from that. Coffee is only $3 so that's nice. Good luck getting refills, never saw the waitress after she took our order. Speaking of which, I ordered the Mt. Hood Omelet that comes with hashbrowns and toast. I guess they only offer one type of toast because she wrote an "M" on her notepad, grabbed the menu out of my hand and walked away. I was (not so pleasantly?) surprised when my food arrived 3 minutes later. Magic. Food was fine, Sysco ingredients, jelly was runny and toast had the lightest smattering of butter. Conclusion, don't come here for the food or service - come here if your options are limited.

Good

I came In ordered a top sirloin steak and specifically told the waiter I wanted it medium rare but more on the rare side, went to the bathroom for about 10 mins the hygiene box was full to the brim and I could see bloody pads as if it hadn't been changed in days, I came back and food was already done so fast service but the potatoes had no seasoning nor the broccoli and the steak was cooked all the way thru. Not medium rare. Very nice people but I'd rather have a longer wait time to have food I actually ordered.

Persian Roll & Maple Bar

This place is ok. There aren't a ton of options in this area and everything is realllly overpriced, including this place for sure. The best things we had were the maple bar, Persian roll, huckleberry milkshake, & Reuben sandwich. The biscuits and gravy are not good, fries are frozen from a bag, coffee is awful... it seems like cash and carry ingredients thrown on a plate without a grain of salt. Food was fast (like not a good sign fast). The service was good, people were nice and pleasant. It's a small place with no seating for a big group, but it seemed clean and lodge-y. Overall, it's not a place I'd come back to based on expense for what you get for sure. But if there's nothing else, it's not the absolute worst.

Patty melt and onion rings

There aren't a ton of restaurants in Government Camp, so Huckleberry in is a decent option, especially when you're feeling famished after some adventure, or if you need a pre-adventure breakfast. First, I'll say the service was great. Staff were nice and down to earth. Food came out relatively quickly. We came for dinner around 5:30p in March, so a bit of the off-season. Now, why only 3 stars? The food was average in our opinion (my wife and two kids under 7). That said, the rest of the family wasn't feeling good, so that probably skews their perception of the meal, but I was fine and left underwhelmed. I ordered the patty melt which flavor wise was not my favorite. I think everything was under-salted, which may be preferred by some palettes. But I found myself having to add table salt to a few items, which I rarely do. That said, some may prefer that so they can choose how much salt they want with their food. I did enjoy my onion rings. But we probably won't be back for the lunch / dinner food. I wish we got breakfast...that stuff looked pretty good. I'd return to try breakfast and their famous milkshakes. Pricing is steep for what you get. But it's on the mountain, so it's not too surprising. Conclusion: You might like it depending on what you order and your taste preference. It wouldn't be my top recommendation for lunch/dinner food.

Halibut Fish & Chips

Stopped here for late afternoon lunch after spending the day on the Mount Hood doing various activities. There's plenty of parking, and the service is great, but it was a little pricey. I am guessing that's just how it is how it is when you're on a mountain. The portions are huge, and breakfast is served all day, which looked really good. I opted for the fish and chips, which I thought was a little thick on the breading.

Omelet: yuuuge!

We came in for breakfast because as usual I was craving hashbrowns. Another reviewer said "big-ass donuts" - seriously, they ARE BIG. As big as my head. Service was ok, but there was only one server who was also the hotel check in/out server as well. I felt bad for her, but she did her best, and we were patient. Our food came out crazy fast, and overall it was good (and also huge - so leftovers!!) Ambiance is pretty much a mountain house/cabin style. I also have to recommend their marionberry anything.

Decent food, large portions, decent service - massive prices. The restaurant is cute and had a good number of customers for a weekday summer morning, but I likely wouldn't return here based on the prices.

We stopped in after waking up for some sunrise photography. We were pleasantly surprised with breakfast! The sausage was moist and the pancakes were delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly! I was very excited they had many tea options as well. Our waitress was attentive and was able to help us create the breakfast place we wanted. It helped that we had the whole place to ourselves! I imagine this place is BOOKED for prime camping and ski season. I'll definitely stop back by if I'm in the area again!

My 8 yr old got the 2 pancakes, eggs & bacon from kids menu. My wife & I split the veggie omelette . We all split a maple bar. Tons of hash browns came with omelette. Portions are large.

Other than the donuts, I would not order anything else. The service was the worst, almost as if they did not want us in the place.

Our place had a large master bedroom with an adjoining bathroom, as well as two more bedrooms and a second bathroom. The place also included a spacious kitchen, dining room and living room, as well as a BBQ on the deck. There's also free Wi-Fi and a large TV that we used to watch both cable and movies. The Collins Lake Resort is also in an ideal location. It is just a short drive to Skibowl where we enjoyed great skiing as well as an awesome experience at night with their cosmic tubing. It is also just a short walk across the street to Government Camp. We had an amazing stay, and I strongly recommend Collins Lake Resort to anyone looking for a great time at the mountains.

Our group of four stayed in Chalet 13 from June 24-27 while attending a wedding at Mt. Hood. The…read morefirst part of our stay was great. We loved the beautiful grounds, and the chalet was comfortable and exactly what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, around 1:00 a.m. on the second to last night of our stay, we returned from the wedding festivities to find that the entire chalet smelled overwhelmingly of sewage. The odor was present throughout all three floors and became stronger with each level. It was so intense that several of us were gagging and even became physically sick. We attempted to book a room at the nearest hotel but they were fully booked, leaving us with no choice but to stay. We opened every window in the chalet and had to leave them open for the remainder of our stay because the smell was otherwise unbearable. We made every effort to report the issue while it was happening. That night, we called the resort's emergency after hours hotline but never received a return call or any follow up. Upon checking out on the final day, I reported the situation again to the staff member at the front desk. He was incredibly kind, apologetic, and assured me the situation was unacceptable. He explained that the manager, Dan, would contact me and that a partial refund would likely be appropriate given the circumstances. After several days passed without any communication, I reached out to the resort myself. I was told that maintenance had inspected the chalet, along with neighboring units, and could not detect any unusual odor. While I appreciate that they took the concern seriously enough to inspect the property, this was very surprising given that all four of us experienced the smell, and it was severe enough that we were becoming physically ill. I was again told that Dan would contact me, but as of writing this review, I still have not received any phone call or email. It's disappointing because, aside from this issue, our stay would have easily earned five stars. I understand that unexpected maintenance problems can happen and I don't fault the resort for an issue that may have been outside their immediate control. What disappointed me most was the lack of follow through after we were assured someone would reach out. Good customer service isn't just responding in the moment--it's also following through on the commitments made afterward. I genuinely hope the source of the odor has been identified and resolved, as it's a beautiful property and I'd love to recommend it. However, I also hope future guests experiencing an issue like this receive the communication and resolution that we unfortunately never did.

DISCLAIMER: Yes, yes, I'm a pretty-active Mazama so I am obviously biased!…read more I have had many, many fond memories of staying here. I've taken all the Mazamas climbing classes and now I help with many of them. BUT, FEAR NOT, you don't have to be a Mazama to stay here, not at all (and you might even enjoy the experience MORE if you don't know anything about mountaineering). Think of this as your hostel on the mountain! You can get a bunk here for pretty cheap, probably cheaper than anywhere else in the area. The only catch is that you'll have to hike about 5 minutes to get to the lodge and you have to bring your own bedding. If that sounds too stressful for you, I'm not sure what you're doing on Mt Hood...I hear there are some nice beaches in Florida. There is a huge drying room downstairs, the main room has a rustic fire place, and the top level has all the bunks. You can see the summit of Mt Hood from the rear deck, you can walk to "down town" government camp if you want to experience some rousing night life, historical photos and objects adore the walls, what more could you want? The staff here works hard and is incredibly friendly. You can get a hot dinner or breakfasts and dine with the staff and the other guests; you can even get a sack lunch if you plan to be up on the mountain all day.
