Our tour group was told we could not sit by the windows and enjoy the view because we were "with a tour and not paying customers." Considering many of us paid nearly $2,000 for this trip, that was insulting. We were also not allowed to order from the regular menu and pay ourselves if we wanted something else. Unfortunately, the meal provided left me sick for going on 2 days. The resort itself also had several maintenance and convenience issues. The ice machine on our floor was broken, the snack machine and soda machine was nearly empty, and the shower had VERY poor water pressure. The gift shop closed before 7 p.m., making it impossible to purchase basic necessities when needed. There was also very little to do in the evenings. The pool closes at 8 p.m., and by 7 p.m. most activities and amenities seemed to be shut down, leaving guests with few options other than returning to their rooms to watch TV. Overall, the resort did not meet my expectations, particularly regarding accessibility, guest experience, and customer service.

Tube Park Review…read more This review is specific to the Tube Park. Highly recommend getting tickets ahead of time online. All sessions for the day were sold out when we visited. The lodge area for the tube park is very small, so don't expect to be able to change clothing quickly inside due to how busy it is. There's a fire place inside and a huge fire pit outside. Very small concession inside with about 8-10 small snack items to choose from. The staff here are top notch - very kind to each other and talkative to visitors. 10 minutes before the session starts, the group gets a safety briefing and reviews the rules. There's a nurse/medic on site. This is fun for the whole family. 1200 feet long and very fast. Be sure to read the requirements online for kids. Extra safety precautions are taken onsite for young kids.

For those looking to get away from urban cityscapes, Black Bear Resort is a year round retreat…read moreoffering tranquility and scenic views for hiking, horse riding, skiing, hunting, fishing, etc. There resort is surrounded by nature preserves a short drive away. Located just outside "downtown" Davis, WV these cozy cabins could accommodate a family work small children and perhaps up to four adults. My partner and I rented the cabin for a most relaxing winter wonderland getaway. All you can use dried firewood is nearly stacked under the cabin for use inside a chipper fireplace. Bring your own kindling! You'll certainlyl want to spend the better part of the stay lounging in the warmest place in the cabin during the winter months. There's a complete kitchen with an electric stove/oven, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, fridge. Bring your cooking knives, as theirs are lacking in quality (but still functionally mostly work). Kitchen drain is slow, and don't throw food down the drain as they're is no disposal. West Virginia isn't known for providing consistent safe and clean drinking water, so if also bring enough gallons for your drinking needs. There's a washer/dryer combo in the bathroom, but the shower drain is slow enough you'll want to take a lickety-split shower despite the water pressure being good and heat nice. The cabin comes complete with enough soaps/detergents to get you through a few days but it probably doesn't hurt to bring more for an extended stay. Downstairs sees a jacuzzi tub which opens to the back porch and unimpeded nature views. The water pressure and tank heater is barely enough to fill the tub to nice and hot temperatures, and you can only fill it up about once a day, since that seems to be the water heaters capacity. T-mobile cell phone coverage was nearly non existent but my partner had good success with AT&T. Wifi in the house is strong enough to allow for video streaming as desired, and you can even semi-confortably WFH as your needs go. This place sees snow! No joke, it's to your advantage to bring a four-wheel drive or snow chains because the snow easily clears ankles. The groundskeepers do their best, but your car will find ice, so some experience with snow driving is strongly recommended. "Downtown" offers a few dining options, but if you want to do your own cooking you'll have to trek 45-min through country roads to get to the Kroger in the next town over (or just being enough ingredients from the get-go) All in all an excellent and inviting place to snuggle up with a loved one and a good launching point to experience some of that "wild and wonderful" west Virginia

I had to sweep and vacuum because of all the crude, dust and hair. All the light and fan fixtures had enormous amount of dust on them. There were towels left in the dryer. And don't get me started on the mold in the shower. The information sheet on the refrigerator says it a privately owned unit and the owner pays a fee for cleaning, yet I also got charged a $75 cleaning fee. Who gets this money and doesn't clean?? I spoke the gentleman at the office and showed him pictures and he agreed it was unacceptable. He took notes and my contact information and advised management would contact me on Monday (2 days). We'll, after a week and numerous emails I still have not heard from management of Black Bear. Better Business Bureau is my next course of action they obviously don't care about customer satisfaction. Blacked Bear, you have definitely went down hill since the newest management took over. I feel bad for the folks who actually own this unit.

My wife and I have stayed here 3 years in a row and we absolutely love the area, lots of trails for hiking, a near by Golf Course at Canaan Valley Resort, Seneca Rocks are close by for day time activities. The towns of Davis and Thomas are also close by with tons of good shops, breweries, and restaurants. We absolutely love this part of the country. The cabins have everything you need whether you want to stay in and cook in their fully equipped kitchen, all you need to bring is food & drinks! There are even Charcoal grills at every cabin and the Jacuzzi hot tubs are perfect to pass the mornings & evenings away. Our cabin Serenity had a pool table and bubble hockey game upstairs. Plenty of DVD's, dish network tv, puzzles, books, and some games. The beds are a little firm for our taste, but that is really the only negative that I have. Not ridiculous but just wish they were softer. We can't wait to go back next year!

I call it a resort because it absolutely fits the definition of a resort which is a place that is a popular destination for vacations or recreation, or which is frequented for a particular purpose. The destination is popular for all Canaan Valley activities (skiing, horse back riding, cavern exploration, etc). We frequent these cabins for recreation, relaxation, rest and recuperation. The cabins are second to none and the attention to detail is simply amazing. The cabins are decorated with five star quality and they all present that home away from home feeling. The kitchens have all the appliances, dishes, pots and pans that you need in order to prepare those home cooked meals while living in your home away from home. This was our second time visiting this luxury cabin resort and we decided to bring our brother and sister along for a birthday celebration. My wife and I stayed in the Royale Cabin and my Brother and sister stayed in the Majestic Cabin. When we arrived we walked right into our cabin and were amazed by the captivating appeal. The soft music was playing in the background and the cozy gas fireplace had the place warm and toasty inside. Both cabins were even meticulously decorated for Christmas holiday which was a very nice touch. Daniel & Jamie Marsh are Simply Outstanding and you can tell that they care about their customers experience. They have thought of everything in order to make your stay extremely enjoyable and relaxing to include the jacuzzi/Hot tub which was excellent during the winter nights. Spending a few days in WV mountain country…read more We are here on RCI points trading a few days for our Manhattan Club ownership. PS we are finding that the use fee of $199 every time we book is just not worth it to us to be RCI members. Check in was pleasant and easy. We asked for a few dining tips as we have never been to the area. The place is set up with 7 sets of condo/townhouse rows. We had a two bed/bath unit, two levels. Large kitchen with a small deck looking into the facility grounds. Well maintained and attractive grounds, in need of a bit of refurbishing. They are building an indoor pool. The construction started at 830am and continued until 430pm. Luckily we were out most days but the one day we were at the unit, Wednesday, the noise was terrible. Room a/c units worked fine if a bit loud. The vent fans in the bathrooms were very loud. Notably there is only one shower, two tubs one of which is a fancy hot tub with no shower or hand held shower. Ok w/us but folks with more guests should take note. Tennis courts are dismal. We played every morning for an hour. They were never crowded and we just walked on each day. The courts are lighted for night play but the surfaces are terrible with many cracks and undulations. They need to fix them or get rid of them. Washer and dryer in unit was great. We used them a few times. All in all a functional place to stay for our few days of exploring the area. We think it would be better suited to families. There is horse riding next door. Location is 20 mins to Davis and 45 mins to Elkins the two mountain towns nearby. Also the hamlet of Thomas, just beyond Davis, was an interesting place. If you are looking for fine dining this is not the place for you. Golf and skiing are one mile away. We were here in July. It might be nice to check the place out in Winter. We did play some golf at the Canaan GC. Very nice Course, well maintained and wide open. It is located inside a State Park. Breakfast place on the property just down the road nearby the entrance is a nice feature but we ate in our unit for breakfast. The weather during our stay was perfect. There is a lot of natural beauty in the area if you like that stuff, hiking and other outdoor activities, but dining options and night life are minimal. We explored the local towns and area. Rib eyes are great, as is salmon, and several other choices... Perfect Date night with your wife, and she will delight in her choice. We have been lodging for years in a nearby condo, and Hickory is a great choice.

The biscuits were the hard and crumbly no bake biscuits you get at Costco by the 24 count. We'd buy them to take to the woods at hunt camp. The bottom of the barrel. (Even half the fast food restaurants make fresh biscuits in the morning) The food on the buffet was cold. The bacon was delicious! The sausage, McDonald's quality. The pancakes, all symmetrical, hard and frozen. The eggs, hard and overcooked. For an international resort destination, this food is subpar. Where's the made to order eggs and omlettes? The next morning there was a very very loud argument happening in the kitchen with multiple profanities thrown. There was an Amish group in the hallway and the women were embarrassed by what these two women in the kitchen were yelling. We chose to not eat breakfast after that unacceptable outburst of staff. Canaan Valley, you can do better. Whomever the head chef is should be fired for his selection of food ingredients and execution of the menu. It's unacceptable!

We Love winter and winter sports…read more We Love grey skies, sun, rain, fog, snow, and the great outdoors. We arrived in late February to little snow and a very sunny deck inviting us to sunbath and enjoy Wild Turkey. Snow began Saturday, and lasted through the week. Snow exceeded one foot, and the maintenance crew was out by 6:30 AM. We have been visiting and enjoying Canaan Valley for the past 60 years Land of Canaan Resort is very close to Timberline and to Canaan Valley ski area. The State Park Resort Lodge is an added benefit We have nearly 40 years of timeshare ownership; we own Marriott Hilton Head beachfront property, Great Smokies property, and Land of Canaan - all are different Land of Canaan is a small townhouse with excellent management and maintenance The full kitchen and laundry are of benefit. Several decent restaurants are nearby. Kudos to onsite manager, to the small businesses of the Valley, and to the wonderful folks of WV.
