Came here for breakfast before hitting the road after my stay at the Great Wolf Lodge. It's about $22 a person for unlimited food and non alcoholic drinks. There were very few options; they didn't even have waffles. My daughter and I have small appetites, so we don't benefit much from buffets. The food was bland, the table salt and pepper did justice. Nice buffet. Being that this is an all-you-can-eat buffet, I decided to disgard my healthy eating habits and go "all-in". First thing, on Wednesdays and Thursdays, they have a 2 for 1 promotion. Nice. It was Thursday, so the wifey is eating for free. I started with a Salad. Nice salad bar. All the toppings you would expect. Lettuce was fresh and everything was fully stocked. I then went protein. I slice of Prime Rib, piece of chicken, some pork, and some shrimp. Followed that with some chicken wings. I love chicken wings. My wife didn't finish her shrimp, so I ate those. And after all that, dessert. A slice of Chocolate Moose Cake and a scoop of Rocky Road ice cream. Got my $20 worth! Why 3 stars and not 4? The service was okay. What service you ask - it's a buffet. We just found out they did brunch. Not sure if it's a new thing or something but we wanted to go. This was out first time to this buffet at all. $22.99 Prime Rib Sunday brunch. Nice selection of lunch items but the breakfast selections were lacking. There was an omelet station scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, french toast and pancakes, biscuits and gravy etc. For the carving station : prime rib, pork loin, smoked turkey. Various pasta with sauce, fried chicken and pork chops, mac and cheese, baked and mashed potatoes, varies cold salads, fried and Peel and eat shrimp, general tsos chicken, spring rolls, various soups, a full salad bar, fish picatta. Just a few that are can remember off the top of my head. We had an OJ, Coffee and water which took absolutely forever to get refilled (3 of us). The pork chop, general tsos and fried shrimp were the only things that were really tasty. Everything on the breakfast selection was bland. The prime rib, although tasty was way over cooked. I had a center slice and it was well done and dry. The mac was creamy and looked great but was so bland. They seasoned basically nothing. The tortellini cold salad was pretty good. The entire breakfast area was seriously what you get from a continental breakfast at a hotel that does a fuller breakfast. If you play for a while at the casino and go back to the players club kiosks you will probably have a dining offer for a free buffet at Timbers. Even if there is no line, we haven't eaten and we are hungry, we often ignore the free meal at the buffet. It's that lame. If it is a busy time and you have to wait in line to pay then again to be seated, just forget it. Anything else from the casino's food court or Johnny Rockets will cost less, taste better and be faster. What is so bad about the food? It runs the gamut from not rotating older food out before heading new food on top to a general lack of care or seasoning. I'll list the things I will eat there instead of the things I won't... The tomato mozzarella salad is tasty The focaccia style pizza is OK if it is fresh and you like sweet tomato sauce The perogies are OK and represent a popular regional food The carved meats are tasty but almost none of the sides are decent The fried chicken is ok Beyond that it is sad indeed. The Mac and Cheese is bland. The mashed potatoes have no flavor. The vegetables are unseasoned and soggy usually. The desserts remind me of cheap items from a grocery store frozen section. Soft drinks and water were not available. Servers brought drinks to the table and refills were nearly impossible to get. Why were they so cheap on refills? The layout if the buffet restaurant was very nice. Had sort of a Arizona kinda feel with the colors and brick work. I had an assortment of menu items. I though overall everything was good. The turkey was slightly dry but not bad. I loved the peel and eat shrimp. The cocktail sauce was good. Nice and tangy. The salad dressing I thought were good and the romaine lettuce was nice and green. There was not a wide assortment of veggies like asparagus, broccoli, etc which was a downer. The peppers and sausage was good but not spicy (which is how I like mine but then again not everyone likes spicy food) which was not bad. A wide variety of soups also. The service was very good and facility was clean. I came on a Tuesday evening for dinner and was seated right away. The waiter for my table was very attentive and cleared my plates immediately when I was finished. It's not a 5-star over the top buffet but its good. This is the WORST buffet I have ever been to. We came for dinner at 7:00pm while gambling on a Sunday evening. We paid $42.39 for two adults. When we went to get food most of the bins were empty and they weren't filling them up. They had a grilling station and the guy was cleaning up and looked like he didn't want to be bothered. The food that they did have like the roasted chicken and carving station was so dry you almost choked while eating it, or you had to pour gravy on it to make it edible, and the baked potatoes were undercooked, the baked fish tasted horrible, the chicken picata was also horrible. I have no problem with frequent, gluttonous expeditions to the Old Country Buffet and I'm on a first name basis with the greeters at any number of slightly sketchy Chinese buffets. I'm not a snob. Yet, despite the carefully designed lighting and the comfortably large booths, I found the Timbers Buffet at the Mohegan Sun Casino to be an underwhelming experience. The Sunday brunch was $16.00 and managed to make even the Old Country seem lavish. The room is enormous but the food stations are deceptively far apart creating an optical-illusion of lavishness and vittles-a-plenty. The selection and variety were quite disappointing. Everything on offer was typical buffet fare yet somehow even more mediocre and ordinary in the context of this shiny, upscale-looking room. Bland chicken dishes under heat-lamps; two carving stations with the same generic, tasteless beef and ham you encounter at any institutional cafeteria. A desert station with gooey banana pies with plasticized whipped topping. You get the picture. The servers were all enthusiastic, polite and well-trained. The din was bearable and expected for a casino. The price was average for this type of setting and while the food would still be underwhelming at half the price, at least it would seem like a relative bargain. Nothing I have seen at the Mohegan Sun leads me to believe they care about food and beverages more than the average mall food-court planner. The nearby Mount Airy casino may not be doing anything particularly interesting either but they are light years beyond what is going on in the Mohegan Sun in Plains. read more

I am generally morally opposed to buffets as a rule, but I didn't totally hate the Timbers buffet. Buffets always seem to bring out the feed bag mentality and you see people mindlessly piling more food on their plate than any one person could ever eat. I was skeptical about eating here but we were with a group and the rest of the group really wanted to go, so I just sucked it up and tried to go with an open mind. I think the thing I really hate about buffets is the food sitting there under the warmer lights with the sneeze guard "protesting" it and you don't know how long it's been there and it's mass produced and...just yeech. Timbers surprised me in the freshness dept. I started off by scoping out the offerings that were running out, hoping to get a serving of the fresh product being brought out. I guess the fact that I can't remember what I ate is a testamnt to how average it was, with the usual buffet foods- carving stations, soups, salads, some ethnic foods,seafood, desserts. The one thing that did stand out was the bacon and mushroom risotto- it was fabulous! But isnt anything with bacon? The desserts were not worth the calories. My husband visited Timbers Buffet at Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre, PA today, 11/22/15. This is not our first visit here. We are not big gamblers however we do enjoy taking advantage of ReferLocal deals occasionally. Today we had a better than average experience. We normally tend to go on Friday or Saturday nights when it is VERY crowded. Today was Sunday an it was steady but not crowded. The food selection and quality of food offered was good today. Food was hot, service was exceptional, refills of beverages were given before asked. Coffee was offered with our desserts. A great dining experience all-around! Being honest, I would never pay Friday And Saturday evening prices if my meal wasn't comped in some way. Today would have only been $40 had we paid for the meal. I would pay that. The value is there. I received coupons in the mail from Mohegan Sun giving me two free meals at Timbers Buffet. They were worth exactly what I paid. Everything tastes like frozen food with nothing even close to being made from scratch. The pizza, the meatballs, chicken tenders, all tasted the same and that is, lousy. They tasted like they were just frozen food warmed up. The seafood (Fried clams and mussels), like most everything else, wasn't very warm. If you get a free meal, you'll get your moneys worth. I had better buffets and I've had worse. The food is hit or miss, but with a big selection I'm sure you'll find something to your liking. Timbers can't hold a candle to the buffets in some bigger casinos but the interior design is beautiful. Though the waiters and waitresses are helpful they seem to be understaffed and I had to wait a long time for my drinks. I've come to the conclusion that Casino food in general sucks I found that out at the Sands in Bethlehem at the Carnegie Deli and now at the Timbers. I had to meet someone there so that was my only reason for being there in the first place.At $17.99/person plus drinks I expected much more than Flounder filets that could be used as a hockey puck and empty mashed potato trays (I was told their mashed potatoes are great but I wouldn't know) The staff was friendly unfortunally that's the only positive I can give it. read more

This was not my pick of a restaurant but I went along with the group choice. I have not been to a buffet in many years and was a bit of a snob when I found out we were going to a buffet. I don't like to over eat and the buffet is scary for me as I like to get my money's worth. Well...I have to say this was kind a fun dining experience. Most of the food was good...not great...but seemed fresh at least. The deserts were very good. I especially liked the fried oreo cookie! I won't run back anytime soon as I really don't like getting up and down to eat...besides if I am going out to eat...I like being waited on! But it is fun to do once in a while. Timbers was really nothing special. I have been to buffets in Vegas and AC and for me timbers is just ok. I do know that other people and my grandma liked it. I guess it is just your opinion. The location is great it is located inside of the casino. There are 4 circle style buffet tables. There is a carving station. I really thought the ambiance was great. I enjoyed the fact that we are there for free we got 2 comped buffets. I went with my grandma. They had everything from Italian to tai to BBQ they also had a few options for desert. My personal option. I don't know if I would go back here. The food was fine and good but I feel like going to the buffets in VEGAS has tainted every other buffet experience for me. I thought it was overpriced for a lunch buffet and the food wasn't the greatest. Carving station offered the best and freshest choices, everything else was just mediocre. If you choose to have salad, you will have to have a flexible body and rubber arms to get under the 'sneeze glass' to get your tomatoes, onions etc. The young person making the pancakes was having a difficult time, the Asian food was not prepared well, did not taste fresh and the spring rolls were greasy. The smell of cigarette smoke from the casino floor comes through the restaurant so if you don't mind some second hand smoke with your meal, that's good. About the only buffets I like are Chinese. I've been to AC, OCB and Golden Corral. None of them impress me, but Timbers is way over priced for what they have. It is your basic buffet. Large selection spread out in a confusing array of food. For some reason it was hard to find plates. The selection was pretty vast and the food for the most part was good, not great. Nice place to sit and take a break from the tables and if you berate the pit boss you can get a free meal. I made several trips to the buffet line in search of finding something that was appetizing, but sadly, nothing on the buffet was worth eating twice. Probably the worst $26 I've ever spent on food. I had not been to Timbers for about a year and a half when we decided to go for dinner on Easter. The food was as poor as I remembered, and within a few hours of dining there, I became violently ill. I think what did it was the roast beef, as it didn't seem properly cooked. I took only two bites before putting it aside. My dining companion didn't have it at all and did not get sick. Desserts were also awful. I've been to numerous buffets, and Timber's was definitely the worst I've ever dined at. The only redeeming quality was the workers. We came to the buffet every week for years and watched the quality and service go down hill to the point that we only come once a month. (Of coarse when it is free) They took away the crab legs and the pasta station and changed the pizza (which was very good) to raw onions under heat lamps with chunks of chicken on flat bread. The service was ok considering they cut them down to just a handful of no so happy over worked and now part time employees. If you need to reach for something like apple sauce or mushrooms forget it because i am 6'1" and i can just reach them and then they spill into each other. Been eating there several times now. Always the kindest servers. I look forward to seeing some of them again. For an everyday buffet, I must say this is pretty decent food. Not gourmet, but adequate and consistent. Try the meatballs!!! I do have to take 5 points off for the fish. Oh no, it was NOT good. I think they caught the fish and the worm.
