Nice quiet spot to have some amazing coffee. The location is just a couple blocks from Waterfront Station in Gastown. Its in a beautiful historic building with high ceilings and windows. Not a ton of seating, but I can usually find somewhere to sit. Definitely one my top places in Vancouver to get coffee, the flavours are so good!
Nice coffee spot here. Really enjoyed the iced chai latte. Service was good. We enjoy little hole in the wall spots like this. Great location in Gastown.
TLDR: Nice coffee shop located in gastown. Good variety of drinks on the menu, modern but cozy interior, and food + beans available for purchase. Would come again! Coffee: I got a cortato which is usually my go-to quick drink. The milk was frothed into velvety microfoam and the espresso shined through. Ambiance: It was pretty busy on a sunday afternoon! Lots of people sitting, working, and chatting which brought great life into the store. I like the brick/woodsy interior. Service: The staff was friendly. There are also self-service water stations if needed
Did some research and found Timbertrain Coffee Roasters from a YouTube rec video while planning my Vancouver trip. Conveniently located in Gastown, Timbertrain offers a sleek, modern interior with warm wooden tones and minimalist design. We stopped by near closing, and there were still a few groups grabbing their last drinks of the day. - Matcha Iced Latte -- smooth, well-balanced matcha flavor paired perfectly with oat milk; strong matcha quality, simple and well-executed - Hojicha Iced Latte -- rich roasted tea flavor, nutty, sweet, and toasty; an earthy contrast to the matcha - Almond Croissant -- generously filled with almond paste (they don't skimp here!), crunchy and nutty with a light dusting of powdered sugar on top Service was wonderful and our drinks came out quickly. As we were leaving, the staff even offered us a few pastries for free -- such a sweet gesture! The ambience is calm and ideal for studying or catching up with friends over coffee, with two levels of seating inside. Overall, Timbertrain is a clean, elegant café serving top-notch drinks -- definitely a spot I'd visit often if I lived nearby.
An enjoyable experience to have a matcha drink here. We bought many coffee beans from their cafe to bring back home. Love their seating.
This is a very cute coffee shop in Gastown. The decor and table setup is really nice. My cap was decent but probably not the best I've had in town. It looks like there are a lot of regulars that show up judging by the number of folks reading and feeling at home here.
Drinks were fantastic overall. The genmaicha matcha latte was flavorful, especially on the first sip -- those toasted rice notes really came through, though they faded a bit as it cooled. The cappuccino was also well done; the coffee cut nicely through the milk and stayed balanced. The hot chocolate deserves a special mention -- one of the best we've had. My kid finished the whole thing, which says a lot. For food, we tried the ham and cheese pastry, which was light, crispy, and nicely melty inside. The marshmallow popcorn chocolate cookie was delicious and chewy, though it felt slightly overbaked -- most of the chew came from the marshmallow rather than the dough. The breakfast sandwich was decent if you're in a hurry, but nothing particularly unique and the least impressive item we tried. The aesthetic was dark and retro, fitting perfectly with the Gastown vibe. Warm lighting near the seating made it a cozy spot to get some work done or relax before heading out. Overall, I'd happily come back for the coffee and warm snacks. Great spot for small groups -- I'd say up to about six people.
Delicious coffee spot with a super helpful barista and a lovely atmosphere. Had my iced decaf mocha no ice and it was absolutely delish!!
Nice modern interior coffee space in historic building located in the heart of Gastown that is filled with natural light and delicious smell of freshly brewed coffee . Carrot cake and matcha cookie is so worth to try . They also have specialty coffee beans for sale in store and online.
Still our must go to coffee shop when in Vancouver. Nothing not to like about this coffee shop. I've been coming here for years. Coffee is great and the treats awesome. You know it's the right coffee shop to stop in at when there's a line of construction workers stopping by and the place is full of students, professionals and other neighborhood locals.
I love coffee and this is an amazing place whether just to pick up the beans or have a sip there. Their beans are great for pour over and the staff will be able to tell you what you need for whatever you make. Generally, great friendly service. Ambience is what a local coffee shop should be. I feel like Timbertrain is so underrated compared to nemesis coffee (imo). The ambiance is super nice, the coffee is great, and I personally love that it's more of a traditional coffee shop. ***What I ordered ~ **Pumpkin Spice Latte w/ Oat Milk (10/10) ~ This wasn't overly sweet or bitter. The oat milk gave it the perfect creaminess and everything just tasted to well together. I honestly like that you can really taste all the spices! Nothing gets hindered by the espresso or milk. Overall, I would definitely come back again! This coffee shop really matches the aesthetic of Gastown and it's so cozy! Also staff were really friendly too! Till my next trip back :')

I popped in hot off a glowing recommendation by a colleague. It did not disappoint! I had a latte and cheese scone today . For those reading my other reviews, the basics are my baselining tool when trying a new place. The latte was as good as I've had them. The roast used was slightly acidic, fruity (to me) and had a little pleasant lingering palate. It like to sit with my drinks and take them slowly and this one was enjoyable to the last sip. The scone was excellent. The cheesy crisp was perfect. and texture was light but firm. The ambiance was extremely comfortable. The table layout alone is worth the stop. I would love to bring five friends for stop here. I LOVE the seating configurations. So many ways to use a fixed seating layout. It was quiet when I stopped by, and I hope these guys are far more busy the rest of the time. Gems like these deserve to be packed. read more

Love the ambiance in here! Industrial yet cozy at the same time. There's a few tables inside and a couple of stool seats along the window. We ordered 2 of the pour overs and my coffee enthusiast husband enjoyed both of them. Barista was very friendly and even helped us with the door when he saw we had a stroller with us. Definitely check this place out if you're in the Gastown area! read more

The best coffee I had in all of Vancouver. Timbertrain is the real deal. The pour overs are excellent. I had a Colombia pour and it hit the spot like nowhere else did. The staff was friendly once I was sitting and gave me some recommendations. The seating is really nice and unique and it has a nice vibe. You'll need charge devices due to limited plugs so keep that in mind. Fully recommend! read more

Yum, can't go wrong with a simple Matcha latte! The barista was nice and let us order 20 minutes before the café closed! Right by gas town so I was able to walk around with a nice hot latte. read more
Went to this place one morning to grab a drink and some cookies. Unfortunately they were out of cold brew that day so opted for a matcha latte and an expresso tonic. Both drinks were good and came out relatively fast. Also got some cookies to try! I got their earl grey, vegan rye, and chocolate walnut! Highly recommend the vegan rye cookie, can barely tell it's vegan. Best part was all the cookies came out warm! Would definitely come here again to try more drinks! read more

Staff were absolutely rude to us, making multiple comments about requesting an additional cup and going so far as to come around the bar and making another comment about how they are a small business. Then they proceeded to stare and smirk at our group. Would have been happy to pay for another cup. Horrible experience but great coffee. read more

I have been here 2 times and the coffee is pretty good. Not the best I have had but good enough for me to come back. Cool little place, ambiance is nice and the pastry looks good but I have not tried them. The service was great. read more

Back in 2017, one of my really good friends brought me here whilst showing me around. We grew up together in Vancouver, but as I've moved away she always told me she'd show me around once I drop by for a visit. She did. She knows about my strong addiction to coffee and usually, that's the major thing anyone really starts off remembering me by; coffee. It was no secret us bonding over amazing coffee again would bring our bond back after years of being apart. She introduced me to Timbertrain. The coffee and the beans were just heavenly and aromatic, by just the smell of the place is already brings you in. The location was a major bonus, as it is in the heart of downtown in a buzzing street! The place was stunning, but the seating was crammed and tight. We were bumping shoulders with the guy beside us on his laptop. The arrangement of the seating confused me, but amazing coffee makes up for it. The staff of the location were always so fun to talk to and they were often very friendly. They were very understanding, when I asked a lot about their coffee selections, as I usually know what I want, but wanted to try something new this day. They have yummy baked goods and vanishes even before I leave the cafe. A little sweetness never harmed anyone! Reminder: This place is quite busy, so if you want to grab a seat come in quick, or have someone come in before you and have them hold the seat for you. read more
This coffee shop has a very unique interior, good for studying, reading, or small groups. I like the train theme. Espresso taste is not too burnt or acidic, and the oat milk is foamed perfectly. Not all coffee shops have flat whites on the menu, so I was very excited to see that they did! If I lived closer, this would be a coffee shop I'd frequent. read more
i've been meaning to drop by here for some time now - so happy that i had the chance. I was able to pick up some geisha beans which i'm wicked excited about for a great price. Anyways - had my typical oat milk capp which i enjoyed as well as. The coffee wasn't extremely strong - but i feel like it's more palatable to most peoples preferences. Loved the service and the ability to work from this cafe. read more

On my last trip to Vancouver I went to Timbertrain twice to get my morning coffee fix. I had a pour over using beans from India. This was the first time I had Indian coffee and had to say it was very smooth. More earthy notes than fruity or flour all. The staff there took the time to explain the flavor profiles of each coffee and recommended the India. I liked it so much a bought a bag of beans to bring home. I also tried the nitro cold brew on my second visit. It had a nice rich foam head and a vibrant dark color. Had the look and mouth feel of a stout while drinking. I really enjoyed it and would recommend. I'm really happy to stumble upon this coffee shop while I was in town and wish they had a branch in Hong Kong where I live. read more

Great little coffee shop with delicious pastries in Gastown. Offerings include espresso drinks, pour overs, and cold brew. We tried the walnut carrot cake and the caramelized onion and cheddar scone. They were both filling and tasty. read more

For one of the last days of the convention I attended in Vancouver, I had to take a few hours of alone time to prepare for a business meeting. Timbertrain seemed like the perfect place to do so. It took me a few minutes of wandering around the nearby intersection to find it, but I'm glad I eventually found it. Such wonderful service, like all the other places I've visited in Vancouver. I ordered latte with a lemon blueberry muffin. Extremely moist muffin. One of the best muffins I've ever had, I'd venture to say! I took a seat at one of the booths and spread out my papers and electronics. I made myself more compact as the coffeeshop filled up and others wanted to read their books at my table. Great vibe overall. There seems to be an energetic bunch that comes here regularly or at least that's the type of crowd Timbertrain attracts, matching the attitude of the baristas. By the time I had spend a week in Vancouver, I just assume that everyone is always super happy. What a great place to exist. I love it here, and I could totally see myself becoming a regular if I lived nearby! read more
