ABF made an empty semi trailer available to me within 72 hours of my commitment, and then even allowed me to delay the delivery of the trailer within 24h before the delivery. They also allowed me ample time to load and then to simply call them hours before the cab came to pick up the trailer. Note that our driveway in Montreal was able to accommodate the 28ft trailer. In DC I needed to buy a $55 temporary parking permit for street parking. Although my goods arrived at the ABF warehouse in Maryland within two days, ABF held the trailer for another five days until I was ready to receive them. Key, I think, is to get the local dispatcher's contact info to help coordinate logistics directly, cause your otherwise dealing only with the national call center, which are really helpful, but can only get you so far. ABF was courteous, very flexible, reasonably priced, helpful, and very quick to get my goods delivered Stateside. This is the way to go as long as you are willing to pack everything yourself (and take responsibility for your own packing).

The workers ran out of tape to secure blankets to the furniture, so i ran out to get it, though the person in charge of the workers did pay as I brought him the receipt. My biggest issue was though the truck was too small. It wasn't long before it was noticed that it was filling up very quickly and i feel this led to many issues. My dining room table, which was bought as a single piece, had to be taken apart to fit and now isn't stable, no matter how much i tighten the hardware, and the extensions rattle loudly in their compartment. It also has a few large chips in the veneer. The frame under the leather of one of my couches has been broken as well. I want to be clear that I don't think the workers are as responsible for this as the person who estimates the size of the truck, because they tried their best to fit as much in as possible and positioned furniture in manners they likely wouldn't have if they had the space. Because not everything fit, I had to rent a truck the next day to finish the job, which was extremely disappointing. Tried to contact them multiple times, no response.
