What makes this food market so great is the sheer variety of tasty options that are available. The best way to experience it is to come on an empty stomach and hop booth to booth trying something at as many as you can. In addition to freshly made dishes to eat on site, you can also get a bunch of stuff to take with you back home. I brought a bunch of meats and cheeses that I thoroughly enjoyed with a bottle of Port after returning to the states. Really glad I did that. Now you'll find things here will be a tad more expensive then if you were to get the same stuff spread out around town. The added cost is really for convenience of having them all in one place and I'm sure the market's popularity has something to do with it as well. Everything tasted so good here. We came 3 times when we were in Lisbon. I was hoping to try every single stall but obviously I would need at least 10 extra stomachs to do so. Definitely do not come during dinner time, this place gets jam packed. Also don't come in mid afternoon when its really hot since there is no AC nor any sort of ventilation inside. It gets really hot and humid. My favorite part was definitely the beer. I do not drink beer but beer here is really light and fragrant. And it is cheaper than water. read more

Delicious meals and desserts all around, I am absolutely in love with Lisboa's time out market. I definitely recommend grabbing lunch here!

I was overall not thrilled with the food in Lisbon, and on our last day, we found the Time Out Market. We stopped there no less than three times. The prices are very reasonable, and it's a great way to try a bunch of different types of food. The place at the front with the pasteis de nata was every bit as good as the famous monastery in Belem, and without the line. The Portuguese chicken place was good but their piri-piri wasn't spicy at all. The best meal we had was at one of the seafood places. At all the stalls we tried, the food seemed fresh and well prepared, and the wine selection was great. Highly recommended if you don't have unlimited money to spend on food. read more

One stop shop and midnight snacking. Opened til midnight from 10a everyday If u want something you will most likely find it here. As you exit and turn the corner stop by the ginja shot place in a choco cup for 1 euro. Lisboa is my sweet soul city! It gave me the best chocolate cake in the world, ginja in the morning, ginja at night, sweet cider on draft, dense syrupy sweet porto, pastes de nata, and every menu (EVERY) has moscatel. Sweet sweeeet wine cousin of the ice wine. I had never felt such a sense of sweet belonging. Time out will have all of the above. It's my sweet shrine! And prego - this is like your hangover cure. I heard from the locals that they don't really like this place so be prepared to encounter quite a lot of tourists at Time Out. The place was super crowded even though we came on a Wednesday evening and getting a seat at the communal tables was a challenge. There are many dining options here but some are quite expensive so we decided to eat at Ground Burger which ended up being a good choice and added up to 40 euros for two burgers, fries, 1 wine and 1 beer. If you don't like hectic and busy then don't come here but if you don't mind sharing a meal elbow to elbow and enjoying the lively atmosphere then this is your place. read more

Basically, foodie heaven I discovered this place while attending web summit as there was a few event venues nearby. I love this place because the food is really good and also easy on the wallet. At the time I was there, there was a pop-up place offering a 3 course meal with wine for 12 euros. But also there are more permanent food places offering good value food. The only downside I can see is it's quite hard to get a seat - even after Lisbon goes back to "reality" after the web summit conference. read more

Honestly my expectations of coming here were pretty low. Expected a complete tourist trap with over priced bland food. What I experienced was quit the opposite. We did a market crawl where my husband and I split an item from each place No we did not hit them all but the ones we did had awesome food at pretty standard prices. Theres a wine store in there that had cheaper prices than one located a block away and you could buy a bottle and sit and enjoy it. This place was so cool! So many great options to choose from - lots of seafood but was also happy to see Thai, Sushi, Burgers. I shared a cheese plate from the cheese place (€15) and then got a salmon and cod burger from one of the burger places. It was AMAZING, and I loved the purple bun it came on. I got the chips on the side, but I tried my friend's sweet potato fries (which I believe are made with Japanese Sweet Potatoes, so they actually look like regular fries) and those were much better than the chips... they were soo good. Wish I could have it again right now!! Seating can be tricky if you go on the weekend, like we did. However, if you wait/have one friend sit in one place and another sit elsewhere, you'll be able to find a seat - don't give up! This was the very first place I went when I arrived in Lisbon; it was a good first stop for a vacationer. There is a good variety of food options, but I wish there were more shop options. The Vida Portuguese shop there is cute though. I ended up buying a few little things as gifts. I had a salad at one of the booths - it was great. On another day, I had an iced latte from the center coffee kiosk. Honestly, the iced latte was a train wreck. I'm not sure what happened--perhaps the lady working hadn't heard of one? She used steamed milk which melted the ice and made it terribly watery. I didn't finish it. I assume that was a one-off though because my friend had a juice smoothie from the place next to it and her smoothie was delicious. A few notes: - Check out the view of the market from upstairs. - There's free WiFi - The bathroom wallpaper is super cute :) If you're from the Washington DC area, this market is EXACTLY like Union Market, and as crowded too. read more

Very cool place to sit and have a meal, a snack, or a drink and people watch. There is a variety of food and drink along with areas to sit. If you have more than 1 in the group, one or two people should be on the lookout for seats while the others walk around and look for things to eat. Once a seat is open, pounce on it! The food options include seafood, Portuguese food, vegetarian, and everything in between. There are a variety of dessert places to try if you have a sweet tooth and we enjoyed l'eclair along with Manteigaria. There are restaurants on Level 1 (which is the 2nd floor) that we didn't try. read more

This is basically a huge food market that offers a huge variety of cuisines - from sushi to Thai to popular codfish/octopus dishes. They also offer delicious pastries! I think what makes me like it here is the chill vibe, but it can get so crowded that it'll be hard to find a seat. I definitely suggest to avoid on weekends if you can. I've tried the grilled codfish with potatoes from Alexadre Silvia, the salmon tartar from tar tar-ia, and the Portuguese egg tarts. The codfish was delicious, the tartar was okay (I've had better), and the egg tarts were a bit too sweet for me but I think they're supposed to be that sweet haha. This bustling market located near the water in Lisbon is a must see, even if you just stop in to grab a snack or drink. Definitely has a very upbeat feeling! Very much so geared towards the tourist crowd, but it's still fun to check out regardless. It gets very crowded but people are constantly getting up from tables - so you'll have to move quickly if you want to snag a seat after picking up some food from one of the many stalls. There's a little bit of everything, from Portuguese to Thai to sushi so everyone will be happy. Most stalls also over wine and beer, so I'd highly recommend grabbing a drink to go along with your meal. read more

I hate to say it but I was a little disappointed at the Time Out Market. It was probably my expectations. I thought it would be a market where locals go. In reality, it is a large indoor market with only tourists. There are plenty of table and chairs, but they were all pretty full. There are tons of stalls all with different food. It can get overwhelming trying to decide what to eat. We made some good decisions and some bad ones. We ordered from 2 of the stalls at the end that are by Michelin Star chefs and a few other stalls. We had ordered soup, a seafood risotto, croquettes, empanadas, and a few other things. The seafood risotto by Marlene Vieira and the croquettes were by far the best things we ate here. I also am a big fan of supporting female chefs so ordering from this stall was a no brainer. The 4 stalls at the end are all Michelin Star chefs. The food was definitely expense for Portugal standards. Only tourists come here. It was overwhelming. Overall, I would recommend coming to take a look but not getting food from here. There are so many other more delicious options in Lisbon that are not tourist traps. read more

A must if you're in Lisbon! I went three times and was gonna go for a fourth but the husband said no. His reasoning: we need to try other places while we were in the city (for 4 days). Well, my rationale: they had everything - all the foods we were eating all around Lisbon were here in this giant market. Seafood, ham, pork sandwiches, soup, chicken, Portuguese food, Asian food, macaroons, famous Portuguese egg tart, you name it. It was also really fun here. There were so many people although Time Out wasn't really​ rowdy place like I imagined - like the Terminal Reading Market in Philly or that night market in Madrid. Time Out seems a more calmer place to get food, a glass of or beer and enjoy oneself. A classier smorgasbord. The prices here weren't cheap like you would find at a normal food court/cart either. As I mentioned, it's a more high class place, and the price reflects it. Though nothing outrageous. I mean, I went 3x!!! It's about the same price or slightly cheaper if you had gone to a restaurant. But way more options here. And the atmosphere was just great. You should definitely check it out. There is also a whole real market side where they sell raw fish, fruits, vegetables, but I didn't really have time to venture much outside the food area. read more

The Time Out market is a story in two parts. One part appears to be a fully functioning wholesale fruit and vegetable market that wraps up shop well before lunch. The other half consists of an astonishing selection of food outlets surrounding a central shared seating area for several hundred people. On the day we were there for a light lunch it was teeming with people. Spoilt for choice from pizza, burgers, fish, bread, cakes, desserts, etc etc I had a fabulous plate of sardines with a well-earned beer after a hectic morning's sightseeing. There is truly something for everyone here. The range of outlets is simply astonishing and the quality appears to be universally good. A bit of a tourist magnet but in a good way. You could lunch here every day for a month without repeating. Recommended. read more

My two favorites are Sea Me which has great seafood and Cozinha de Felicidade which had an amazing dish of pork and sweet potato mash. It can be hard to find a free table for a big group, but it's definitely possible if you're all looking for spots. This is a very touristsy spot, but hell Im a tourist. ( see how I create words) lol. It's my usually got spot right from the airport until I check into my Airbnb. Today was no different busting out the seams with people. (Again a majority of them tourist I'm sure) Nevertheless you can find what your plate craves in this place. Also being in Lisbon and at such a high tourist spot I find the prices to be somewhat reasonable. Now keep in mind prices get even better once you really get out and explore the city's cuisine. But you must stop by when visiting this beautiful city. Side note...I remember when I first saw the place on YouTube I can't believe this is my 3rd visit to this remarkable city, and know what I plan on making many more visits. Tourist trap? Why yes it is but do not miss out on Time Out. Take some time out of your busy day and visit. It is a top destination in the travel guides and now I see why. First entry I was overwhelmed with all the options and the system but overall found it beneficial to try multiple options. We came at night and found it crowded but luckily saw a couple of seats. In order to not lose our seats we would alternate walking up to order food. Now you may be thinking just go to one spot- well then you would miss out on some delicious food. We were able to try some barnacles at Azul, sardine nigiri at Sea Me, croquettes at Croqueteria, and let's not forget the famous Pasteis de Nata at Manteigeria. Everything was delicious! They have multiple bars spread throughout the seating area. Aperol Spritz bar, wine bars, and spots with beer options as well. My tip would be just order a bottle of wine for the table. We ended up grabbing a bottle as well at one of the shops to take away. read more

You must come here if you ever find yourself in Lisbon, Portugal! this is a place for all the local chefs to come and share their culinary skills with you. This is an all day and night time market. There are a variety of vendors with all the desire culinary dishes you could ever hope to find. From Spanish to French to Italian. You will find something. My only regret is that I didn't stay long enough to try more places. I only got to try the artisan pizza and down it with prosecco. The pizza had arugula and it was so good. Also got to try the gelato place in melon and strawberry. Very refreshing and delicious, not too sweet! read more

I love a good food market and one that serves seafood and wine is even better!! Loved the Time Out market and the variety of stalls offer seafood and other Portugese dishes. I had an deliciously garlicky plate of clams from Monte Mar. My husband had THE BEST suckling pig dish from Henrique Sa Pessoa. The outside was perfectly crispy and the inside was tender, well seasoned and fantastic! We might venture there at least one more time before we leave! read more

We walked all the way here from Alfama. It was not worth the trek. Well, I thought it would be similar to the markets we went to in Barcelona and Madrid. Nope. There isn't a large selection and the food is rather expensive. It's more of a tourist trap. Don't know if locals actually come here. We went to three of the food stalls. The first sold pasteis. It was okay. The second was a place where we bought sweet potato chips for two euros. It was just okay too. Then I got an order of the cod for take out. The cod was on the dry side and not that flavorful. It didn't really stand out as good or bad. Lisbon has a ton of great restaurants. I wouldn't waste my time here if I were you. read more

Time Out Market is phenomenal. It has the feeling of a beautiful train station and is filled with 30+ dining options. The stalls line the walls and there is seating in the center of the space. It has a lively atmosphere and has all of the cuisine of Portugal as well as plenty of other cuisines represented. Highly recommend a meal here during your time in Lisbon. read more
