Stopped in after a walk along the waterfront off the recommendation of some local friends here in Portugal and a large amount of 5-star reviews Time Out has on Yelp. I was not disappointed. I went for a draft beer with a platter of local meats and cheeses from Mantegaria Silva and was very happy with the purchase. The platter comes with a freshly shaven portion of Iberico ham and three distinct types of cheese from the local area. All pair well with the crisped bread and wine that is offered at the shop. (I'm not much of a wine connoisseur and instead opted for the local Shiner Bock beer). This place was massive and packed full of people from locals to cruise ship tourists. If you're looking for a relaxing meal to enjoy the sights and quiet conversation this is NOT it. This is closer to a large social hall with communal style sitting that can be considered cramped by some. I loved it as it put me next to different people from all over the world while we enjoyed the best that Portugal had to offer. I will definitely be back again. read more

Absolutely wonderful place to find a wide array of fantastic food at reasonable prices in casual ambience. It is a little bewildering with all the market stall options. So here are a few specific recommendations we enjoyed. But by far just scratched the surface. The place is good for many repeated visits. At Henrique sa Pessoa Leitao - traditional suckling pig. Fantastic. Crisp skin and moist flavorful meat Tartaro de Robalo - tartare of sea bass, avocado and mango. At Alexandre Silva Duck Confit with sweet potato purée At Tartaria Tuna tartare - delicious with subtle combination of favors. Lots of other options too - hard to go wrong whatever you try. Love the concept. It's Lisbon's answer to NYC's Chelsea Market and SF's Ferry Building except on a bigger scale more food options. I don't know if there's only one set of bathrooms on the one side of the market but my recommendation would definitely be to put more bathrooms. During the daytime they also have a wet market where you can buy produce. Very accessible to public transportation as the Metro is right across the street. read more

Came here just as the real market was closing down, but the produce and product on display were reminders why Portugal is the best, new country to visit for food lovers. Through a door and you're in, and into a huge space bustling and ringed with vendors and food stalls, just about everything one could want. The seafood we had, from many different vendors, were all excellent. Prices aren't cheap, good times seldom are outside of nature. Lisbon's food hall that had just about everything your stomach desired. Local portugese fare that had some stalls specializing in bacalao (cod) to asian to pizza. There is free wifi available and plenty of seating. Lots of adult beverage stations to choose from as well. Did not feel touristy as there were lots of locals dining here. It is located across from the train/bus station so it is easily accessible. Definitely stop by at least once if you are visiting the area. read more

First night in Lisbon and made the mistake of waiting too late to eat a late night meal. We were recommended time out by a local. I had only heard of time out as an online based company that provides information on what to do, where to go, events going on. I actually used it all the time when I lived in NYC. But I never knew they had locations like this! This massive market was stocked full of all different vendors serving up speciality cuisines, drinks, desserts, macaroons. Pasta, pizza Thai, Italian, burgers, Portuguese .. seriously name it. And they have it. We had pad Thai from a corner spot. It was phenomenal. Legit tasted like ingredients and noodles you would have in Thailand. Not to mention. It's just a super cool place to roam around. Definitely a place that is targeted for tourists, but I definitely don't mind given the variety and the quality of the food that served here. Prices are a bit higher, even though you would think it should be lower since this place is built like a food court with restaurants all around and dining area in the middle. However, it is a high end food court and the food they serve certainly seemed that way too. We came here the first night we were in Lisbon and I ordered a veal stew and grilled octopus from one of the stalls. I was disappointed with the veal because it was definitely a lot drier than I anticipated and I had to use the beer to swallow every bite. However, the roasted potatoes that came with the dish were awesome and probably the best roasted potatoes I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned with every cube, I can probably just eat just that for my entire dinner. The grilled octopus was definitely the highlight of the light. It was tender and the seasoning was just right. It meshed really well with the mash potatoes that came with the dish. During the day, the space next door to this place has a local farmers market. There are also a lot of shops and restaurants along the outside of this place as well. It is in a great location because it is right across the street from the train/metro station. read more

This place is really fun! If you like fun places, then go here. It's full of great eateries and bars and some local goods stores. Big and expansive with An abundance of communal seating in the center. Plenty of food and booze. Everything from fine French to burgers. I ate grilled octopus and it was glorious. Almost all the stalls serve wine or beer. Only one I found served sangria and it was OK. If you want really good sangria, go outside of the market right next to the park and there is a small booth amongst the others that serves a half liter of high-octane sangria for€5. Way better than the stuff on the inside. It's delicious jet fuel. There's a decent bar inside the market that has good wines by the glass and decent craft cocktails. I recommend the "Stop whining". It's like if red wine and bourbon had a love child, stirred with a straw made entirely of sugar. It comes either by the glass, Liter or 2 Liter. I'm not joking. I came here not knowing what to expect so I'd already had lunch but I checked out this ice cream place and I have to say was really good! I got Nutella with the caramel and ones mango with strawberry. If you are coming to this market definitely come hungry because you have so many options and everything looked really good. Also if you go up to the second floor you can get like a really nice view of the whole market and there is also a restaurant on the second floor and that's more of a sit down restaurant so if gets a little too chaotic for you go upstairs and check out that place and see if that works. read more

Love this market. People are super friendly, speak English well and are helpful. Definitely service oriented and the food is delicious. Go during off hours, between lunch and dinner or late night though some place might be closed if you go too late. I found other places that are neighbourhood restaurants the waiters get annoyed when you ask questions or can't speak the language. Great concept. Poor execution. So many places to choose from serving everything from roast chicken, fresh seafood, "eclairs", sandwiches, ribs, pastries and even Ginja! My issues with this place; It is TOO hot. The windows above NEED to be opened to vent out all this heat. Eating hot food while dripping in sweat is not the most enjoyable. It is the sole reason I did not want to come back and eat here again on our trip. There isn't enough space to walk around because the lines (more like crowds) of people waiting to order -or waiting for their order- takes up all of the space between the tables and the order counters. There are, however, more eateries around the backside where there is more of a breeze and less of a crowd. There isn't a clear understanding of what to do with your tray once you've finished. If you're supposed to put it on those carts, I wouldn't know. No one was doing it and the signage on the carts didn't say to do so either. But if you're supposed to leave it on the table for a busser to collect, it sits there for quite a while because there aren't enough bussers going around. There are pigeons living and FLYING above you as you eat. Gross. One nearly attacked the counter girl as she served me Ginja D'Obidos. Nevertheless, check it out. There might be less people (and pigeons) when you go. read more

However, after walking the perimeter and carefully deciding on a few spots to try, we were beyond impressed with not only the quality of food but the ease of ordering. Once ordered, you receive a buzzer similar to one you get when you wait for a table at a restaurant. At this time, you need to find a spot to sit which for us was quite fast. Hectic but fun!!!! It's a very vivacious place full of people & delicious smells! There are full blown restaurants on the 2nd level. Great place to go in Lisbon if you want various cuisine options. It's a very popular place in town so seating is incredibly limited to say the least. The best strategy is to go in a group or with someone else so you can divide and conquer in finding a seat! Although this is a great market and totally fit for a foodie, it is often packed with locals and tourists alike. On my many visits there, I went mid afternoon to avoid the crowds and had some fantastic and expensive tiger prawns at Azul where you can sit outside on the lovely shaded patio. On my second visit, I had a chicken satay appetizer and a panang curry with chicken from Asian lab. I was given a beeper while waiting for my food. Once your food is ready, the beeper flashes and vibrates to let you know your food is ready. If Time Out market wasn't so popular and crowded, I would visit a lot more often. Love! This market was the first to give me a sense of the Portugal European culture I was seeking everywhere! The market is spacious with several food choices (note a bit pricey than other places visited in Spain, for a smaller portion). The centre of the market holds a small dance floor, where a lot of locals (or so I hoped they were) were dancing in pairs. I had the burger at the only burger store (sorry do not remember the name! The burger was big and juicy and came with fries and a side of mayo. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire burger- bun, beef, and condiments. Great dining options - almost too many - around the outside, with beverage stations in the center. I've been twice now, and had great food both times, and struggled to find a seat both times (despite arriving closer to 2pm). A great spot for folks with varying tastes to pick things they want, and all dine together; or to order a ton and share with your friends. I just wish it was easier to find where your dirty dishes should go, or that the folks that collect them were more plentiful. Lisbon is one of the most incredible cities in the world. Time Out Market is as unique as the city. Located in a converted warehouse type building it has this grid and charm to it. I found myself delighted with scents, colors, tastes and people. It doesn't see to every not be busy, so that is a good indication of the type of demand it meets for visitors and locals. Sometimes, it is a challenge to find seating since this is a cafeteria serving style, but that part of the experience I guess.
