Bought watch for $8,000 advertised as working, serviced with 1 year warranty. Received watch not working, contacted Timekeepers, received no reply. Watch needed a mainspring, cost me $520 to get fixed. Shipping was a nightmare, customer communication incompetent, never received tracking number, 4 trips to 3 UPS locations to find and get the watch. Bad value (broken upon receipt) NO service. BY STEVEN DARRAH I took an antique clock in to timekeepers that I wanted fixed so that I could give it to my 95 year-old mother for Christmas. Several attempts were made to get it to work and every time I got it home it wasn't working right and I would have to call them back. This happened approximately five times. The last time one of the employees came out to my house and adjusted it on my countertop and told me that it will be fine as long as you don't move it. Well in order to get it to my mother, I have to move it. Anyway it never got it to my mother because starting the very next day it wasn't keeping correct time. I finally called them after about six interactions with them over the phone and told them I think that I should get a refund of the $700 that I paid them months earlier not counting the multiple trips from Wentzville to Clayton to have them tweak or whatever they did to the clock The woman owner started screaming above me and wouldn't listen to me and told me that wasn't going to happen and basically I needed to just live with it and that they did their job.I am beyond disappointed with Timekeepers as far as their ability, Customer Service, integrity and work ethics. I am far beyond this being over as I am going to report them appropriate government agencies. Of course I paid them cash so I can't dispute the charge on the credit card. Would give zero stars, if possible. Will begin by saying that this is the first review I have ever left; I have simply never had this negative of an experience working with a small business. I recently took a gold chain here, which needed repair. I'd had the chain for years, and it had never broken before this incident. After I picked it up and put it on, the chain broke again, in the same spot, within a week. When I called and explained the situation, they said they would repair it free of charge, to correct whatever had happened during the initial repair process. Then, when my husband went to pick it up, they would not let him have the chain back until he agreed to pay them more money. When a business cannot own up to their mistakes, they lose future business and respect. In hindsight, I should have read some of the other reviews more thoroughly before going there for a repair, as it appears others have been scammed by their repair service. read more

Took a Rolex watch in to store to get authenticated as they came recommended by someone. Bought from a reputable dealer but just wanted the extra piece of mind. The gentleman helping me was nice enough and looked at watch and box. Said everything looked good but if he could open watch up and check movement he would be 100% certain for $100. I said okay but explained that this watch unworn and did not want any scratches on watch while opening to void original warranty or ability to return to original buyer. He said "oh we use Rolex tools to open they won't know". I said okay. He takes watch in back of store. Waited in store 30 minutes, he comes back with watch case with movement showing so i could see. No gloves. His hands visibly very dirty holding the watch. Movement open not in sterile environment exposed to potential dust, dirt, hair etc. Let's me take a picture of it. Takes it back, puts bracelet on and gives me watch and says it's authentic. After inspecting watch, I notice the case back is scratched which i was not happy about but held in my frustration but told him it was scratched. He takes it back and buffs it out which is insane cause this is unworn watch i wanted to be under warranty and able to return if needed (real watchmakers/dealers know when things are messed with). I leave store and put watch on my wrist in car. The bracelet is installed backwards! I take it back in to show him, he sighs and puts bracelet on correctly. Now once I get home i notice the lugs where you remove bracelet and are all scratched up in all 4 locations. AN ABSOLUTE JOKE OF A "WATCHMAKER" to handle a watch this carelessly. This whole situation left me so uneasy I am going to take the watch elsewhere to authenticate and make sure they didn't ruin the watch. read more

I don't like making negative reviews but I felt humiliated by this place. My brother died 2 months ago and while cleaning out his house I found what appeared to be a Rolex. I called around and was told this place could authenticate. I called on the phone and they sounded pretty friendly so I took the drive. Once I got in I explained that I called. The lady took one look and just said..."it's a fake." I really felt like some dude trying to pass off a fake watch in a parking lot. My wife and I have been to this store multiple times. The people we met that work there are extremely knowledgeable about vintage watches, in particular Pocket Watches. They have always treated us with great respect and been extremely friendly. We have sent multiple pocket watches for cleaning and repair. We have also purchased some vintage estate jewelry at a very reasonable price. They are one of the few places where you can find vintage Atmos Clocks. I was also very impressed with their selection of vintage jewelry and watches to choose from. We trust them with heirloom items we would not bring to anyone else. I find most jewelry stores to be lame and generally uninteresting. But Timekepers isn't your average jewelry store. Most of the stuff there is vintage (from estate sales), so you find a lot of cool pieces with age and character. If you're looking for an interesting ring (engagment or otherwise), definitely check out the selection here. They have really neat ones that use all kinds of stones. Some of them are quite old as well, from the 1800s and such. But they still look great and shine, and don't cost as much as you might think. I saw a really nice looking gold ring with a emerald surrounded by diamonds from the 1800s that was under a thousand bucks. Along with rings, there's a great selection of wrist watches, pocket watches and more. Prices range from a couple hundred bucks to way up there. The woman working at what appears to be a family owned jeweler did not exude the type of warmth/friendliness you would expect from a family owned business, instead I found her to be rude and arrogant. I received a watch as a gift and needed a couple of links taken out, I was also seeking for some feedback on the watch which is priced around $500-$600 online. When she looked at it she told me it's a watch they would sell at Wal-Mart, Sam's, or Costco (which they don't). I get it, they sell used Rolex's that start at $2,500; I was just looking for an appraisal that could have consisted of something like, "it's a lower end watch, maybe retails for $300/$400) or anything other than her comment that made me feel like I have some PoS watch (which IMO it's not). While I was waiting for my moment of glory noted above, a woman was getting something fixed on her watch and I overheard the conversation. The 'jeweler' asked if the woman would like to replace the crystal b/c there were some dings on it..the woman replied that it's too expensive and that she will wait until it gets worse. The jeweler responded saying "I would replace it right away, but that's just me". Again, somewhat of a belittling attitude, who does this lady think she is? I'm sure she is rolling in $100 bills and spends thousands of dollars on jewelry ....then leaving the store to spend the evening in her trailer. Customer service and how you treat people is a big deal to me and leaving walking out a jewelry store that make you feel small when you are walking out the door it's not worth walking in. There are many places in the St. Louis metropolitan area to buy a fine timepiece but none of them will treat you as well and stand by their watches like Timekeepers. They are not an AD that's trying to sell a volume of watches so they will make sure what you are buying is quality. They are upfront and honest about anything, they are not out just to make a quick dollar. You pay to patronize any business, and you won't find a better one. Their prices are very reasonable. Edward will teach you anything about what you are buying if you listen to him. He won't just sell you various watches with ETA movements like many of the other stores around. DO NOT send a valuable watch to Timekeepers for cleaning or repair. I sent in my Poljot Traveler Chronograph to have the crystal replaced and the movement cleaned. The watch came back with a brand new crystal, but also a brand new set of problems that had not existed before being touched by Timekeepers. The stopwatch chrono sweep didn't work, and a rotating bezel that had worked perfectly before barely turned. $250 for shoddy workmanship. I called to tell them what was wrong and was told to send it back to have it fixed. Two weeks later the watch was returned with the problems fixed - BUT a new set of problems existed. Sent the watch back yet again. I received no word from Timekeepers as to the watch's status for three weeks and had to call. During our conversation they rudely told me that a feature that was damaged during the last repair never existed on the watch in the first place! When I tried to present proof of the watch's movement model I was told it didn't exist, (regardless of the fact that I had the paperwork to prove it). I suspect the original movement was removed and replaced with a lower end model without my permission or knowledge. Poor customer service, and high prices. DO NOT send your watch to these folks for repair, and DO NOT trust them for a fair deal. read more

I took my relatively nice Swiss made automatic watch here for a fairly straight forward repair. They had it back to me in 4 days and it only cost $20. I'm particularly pleased because, prior to this, I went to a jeweler downtown that claimed they could fix it, and they ended up keeping the watch for a month and claimed it needed parts from Switzerland that I knew it didn't need. Discovered this location on a drive one day and was wowed by the collection of watches, vintage jewelry and antiques. While looking at the watches, I mentioned that I had an accutron from 1966 that was very sentimental to me, but no one had been able to repair it. he said he could "No problem!" I took it to him, and although the quoted repair price was high, I wanted the watch to work, so gave him the go-ahead to fix it. Months later, after repeatedly promising it would be done "next time" the watch was finished. Only it was not my watch. Mine was a 1966 Accutron 214, but what he gave me back was a mismatch of odd parts with a 1969 back. When I challenged him, he got very defensive and abusive. I WILL NEVER GO BACK. EXPENSIVE AND NOT WORTH THE PRICE. NO QUALITY CONTROL AT LEAST, PERHAPS STEALING THE MORE EXPENSIVE PARTS FROM CUSTOMERS? REGARDLESS, DO NOT GO HERE EXPECTING TO GET TREATED CORRECTLY. read more

Had a vintage West End Watch with a broken mainspring. They diagnosed it quickly, gave me a good price (which included cleaning and oiling the entire mechanism, and a one year warranty), and had it done within two weeks. Not bad! I have been here twice, both for re-sizing needs. I was referred here by a shopkeeper in Brentwood. The first time, I needed a metal ring resized. I didn't know what it metal was, and it had a HUGE cocktail setting of various stones. They resized it in about 1 week from a size 9 to a size 6. I was concerned that the large setting would be disrupted by the huge size change, but it was fine. They charged me $20 for it (I thought that was reasonable). The second time, I needed a 18k gold ring (with custom band engraving) resized from a 6 to a 5. I was told the ring would be done in 2 weeks. I came back 2 weeks later and I think they had forgotten about it. They told me to come back the next day. The next day, I returned and the ring wasn't back from the re-sizer (I guess the guy who does this for them operates out of somewhere else, maybe their Olive location?) and I waited in the shop for about 30 minutes while the ring was fetched from him. This was inconvenient. However, they did good work and the custom engraving on the ring was preserved. I was charged $65 for it (I thought this was steep). Ultimately, I didn't mind because the shopkeepers are very nice (Ukrainian guy and his wife) and they were apologetic for inconveniencing me. I will continue to frequent the business for my fine jewelry needs. They have a HUGE selection of vintage items from brooches to watches to music boxes to grandfather clocks. If you're looking for something very unique and vintage, you will definitely find that here. I would have given 5 stars if the service were faster. I don't know if you can pay extra to "rush" the item, but I didn't ask. read more

Called to get rough estimate for routine Rolex service. Was told (strong accent) that I would have to bring it down for them to look at it before giving me an estimate. A 30 minute drive later, I walk in to have a lady tell me, without looking at the watch, that it would average between $4-500, the repair man was away for the week, he was backlogged for another 3 weeks, and may be able to get it in 4 weeks. Question: why did I drive for an hour, when 30 seconds on the phone would have provided me the information? If you don't know the answer to a basic question, why not ask someone in the store rather than provide bad info? Too much trouble? Not happy in Chesterfield! read more

They did a quality job engraving the back of a watch for me, and when I brought a costume jewelry chain that I wanted a duplicate of in sterling, the nice gentleman who runs the shop showed me pictures of chains in a catalog and was able to order me the precise look and length I wanted at a good price. We wanted to do an antique ring so this is the place we looked, they have two locations. I liked the Clayton location better than the Olive, seemed to have more (at least for what we were looking for). Very helpful--the woman showed us everything we possible wanted to see. She gave good suggestions and we ended up coming back for one we'd noted. We were able to get the ring sized that day which made it more fun. I did notice with appraisals though they do tend to rate 1 level lower on diamonds than other places. I'd have an outside appraisal done in additional to theirs just for 2nd opinions/to be on the safe side. You do have 7 days to return. read more

My fiancee and I had a wonderful experience picking out and purchasing my engagement ring at Timekeepers just two weeks ago. We were in town visiting family for Thanksgiving (we live outside the country). Initially, we shopped around at the usual jewelers, but nothing really grabbed us. A bit discouraged because we were flying back home the next day, I remembered Watchmakers. My family usually gets our watches fixed at their Olivette shop and it's always fun to browse the jewelry cases while waiting for a battery to be replaced. So we popped over to the Olivette shop and saw many beautiful new, pre-owned and vintage rings. Lots of unique and lovely things. The very friendly and helpful salesman suggested that we run by the Clayton branch, because they have a lot of different pieces. There, we were helped by one of the owners who was extremely patient with me and made it a fun experience. Ultimately, I was down to 2 rings from the Clayton store and one from the Olivette store... but we were flying the next morning! They offered to bring the ring over from the Olivette store and open the Clayton shop early the next morning for us.. promising that even with a sizing, we'd still make our flight. The next morning, with our suitcases packed and in the car, we went to the shop and chose a ring! We received wonderful customer service and expert advice, as well an enjoyable experience going through a huge range of styles from new/contemporary to art deco and antique. I've used the Clayton store twice--once to fix the clasp on a nicer watch I have and once to switch out a broken quartz movement in a cheaper one. Both times, they were helpful and did the work right. The clasp fix involved taking apart similar clasp I bought for parts to replace a broken slider in the clasp on the watch. It took some discussion and fiddling, but they did the trick and the watch is back in good shape. I appreciated that they took the time to fiddle with it to achieve what I was looking for. The movement replacement really pleased me. Two stores had told me that it would cost more than the watch was worth to fix it; however, I knew that the repair was not exactly rocket science and they either didn't know what they were talking about, were charging exorbitant rates for labor/parts, or didn't want to bother. So I took the back off the watch to examine the movement type, ordered a new one for $10 online, and took it down to Timekeepers. They installed it for $25 and the watch is like new again. They even installed a new crown tube (the one in the case was worn) at no extra charge. It was a relief to get the repair for an honest price! read more

I took a Tissot back to Jared where my wife bought it for me, along with the Ultimate Watch Plan warranty for which she paid extra. It had been skipping seconds for a week and quit running a couple of days ago. The sales person tried two batteries and said that was not the issue so they could send it off for a repair estimate. They were going to charge me $25.00 to send it off. Told them to wait, figured "I" could take it to a watch repair for free. The Ultimate Watch Guarantee expired (roughly two year old watch). Took it to Timekeepers in Clayton, along with another watch not running. In ten minutes they had replaced batteries in both watches, along with the part that holds the battery in in the Tissot which they had apparently lost at Jared when they opened it up. I have a love hate relationship with this place. I come here for the antique jewelry. They have the best selection in town. The customer service is horrible though. The wife is very rude and lacks basic customer service skills. I have seen her be much nicer to other customers. Usually these are regular customers that are there often and I'm sure spend much more money than I do. Her husband Edward on the other hand is a sweetheart and I usually prefer that he waits on me. He knows the type of pieces I like. I'm sure the Clayton housewives keep this store in business otherwise it would have gone out of business years ago if it were in another location. Always a Great selection-great vintage pieces-amazing wristwatch collection-The staff (husband and wife-owners) have never been anything but nice to my partner and myself. They sized some diamond rings for us and got them done before they were scheduled to be completed-They did some work on my Vintage Rolex-Cleaned the dial and replaced the stem and crown and did an amazing job! They also buy-and the times I have sold to them-paid more than any other local jewelry buyers. They do not Just pay for the gold value-they actually pay you for the diamonds in the ring as well-and they pay for designer names (such as Carrera, Cartier, and Tiffany) most places do not pay extra for the jewelry being name brand-just the gold. I was in Timekeepers in Clayton and they didn't have a Speedmaster in the case. But, the person behind the counter said he was wearing an Omega and offered it to me. It was perfect. They put on a nice band, and regulated the watch. Now, two years later and two more Rolex watches Timekeepers is always the first place we'll look. This place is a hidden treasure in St Louis.!!! I have a very sentimental Seiko watch that is probably 30 years old and I needed the specific links for it in order for it to fit me. I took pictures of it and wrote a detailed letter to Seiko asking if there was anywhere that might have these links in the country. I also asked if they knew of a place where I could get custom links made in order for it to fit me. I got a form letter back telling me there was nothing they could do to help me. I then went online and called various watch repair places that I found on google. No one had any idea where I could find these links. I happened to walk by Timekeepers one day and asked if they could possibly help me. Amazingly they had an old watch in the store with the same links and added them to my watch! I was ecstatic.
