I originally contacted them about getting a new roof and solar using the PACE financing program offered by the State of Florida. A.G.U. told me in writing that the interest rate would be 7.99%, which sounded reasonable. Based on that, I agreed to move forward. When I got the final numbers, the rate had jumped to 12.79%, far higher than what was promised. I told them that was too much and decided to do just the roof and pay cash instead. I ended up paying over $20,000 for the roof alone, which I later found out was very high compared to other estimates I received. Now, even after I've paid in full for the roof, A.G.U. is trying to charge me a $1,000 cancellation fee just because I didn't do the solar. That is completely unfair, especially since their own misleading information about the interest rate is the reason I canceled the solar in the first place. This company's sales tactics are deceptive, their pricing is excessive, and their business practices are unacceptable. Be very careful before signing anything with them. I truly regret doing business with A.G.U. Roofing.

But they didn't use their Insurance Company to cover their shoddy workmanship. They said the product was guaranteed. They didn't honor that. Very disappointed in the company. They claim to be Family owned and operated. But taking advantage of people, especially older ones, is very sad.

Anyway, I asked an acquaintance for a recommendation and he suggested Clark's. I saw that they receive a lot of very positive reviews, and on their website it prominently stated they do repairs, large and small. I phoned and he came out and looked the roof over. He gave us an estimate for repairing two places up there for under $1000. That was acceptable to us and he said he was busy the next week but could do it the week after. Three of them came that week and it was done in a day. He billed us for the same amount as on the estimate and I expect we will use them again when we need to have the entire roof done in another year or two. I highly recommend them.

Some wanted upwards of $14,000, and one wanted as low as, $7,500, but most were middle of the road, around $8,800 - $9,100. I made the mistake of going with the lowest quote to my detriment. That contractor ended up wasting months of our time and money, making promises to come out and that he'd just give me a refund, which thankfully he finally did. Clark's Roofing was one of those original contractors I originally contacted, and was the only one I could get ahold of that would actually respond. What I remembered about him, was that when I wanted the estimate he was out there the next day, when I needed all this paperwork filled out for the loan, no problem, had it within a day or two, just really solid. When I contacted him again months later, after having already chosen that other contractor, and giving him short notice, I was afraid that he was going to want to charge more than the original quote. But he didn't try to charge me a single dime more, signed off on the same quote and price with a fresh date and signature. Everything was legit with this guy, there was no dancing around or swindling or anything, it was just good work for a fair price. And it seems to me like this guy really knows his stuff, like he's actually been in the business rather than an a managerial middle-man type guy that funds and controls but doesn't actually have a clue as to how to do the work. One thing I specifically remember that impressed me the most was how he didn't shy away from "woodwork" like some of the contractors I encountered, also it didn't affect the price whatsoever. I ended up doing the hardest part of it myself (fixing the overhang on the flat roof, just because I wanted to) but they easily took care of the rest of it. So, if you want a good roofing contractor for a fair price in the Clermont area, that won't try and rip you off for all your worth, and who will actually respond to quote requests Clarks's roofing is your company.

I had heard how many of the roof companies have lawyers available to fight insurance companies so that they can charge more money so that a homeowner can recoup a portion of their deductible. That sounded like fraud to me. OCR sized up my project gave me a competitive price with a 10 year warranty on their work and the manufacturer offered a 50 year limited warranty if the roof was installed according to their specifications which it was. The crew came went right to work and with in a day and a half the roof was on and I was very satisfied. I would strongly recommend this company if you need a roof replacement or repair.

Only use this company if you are knowledgeable about roofing and able yourself to fully supervise onsite. Workers often take shortcuts that result in problems with leaks later. Though the company will respond to warranty calls, "bandaid" fixes often don't address a full remedy unless you document problems with pictures taken by professional outside inspectors. Slow leaks may take a couple years to show on the interior ceilings. Unfortunately by then, the five-year warranty may have run out.
