Stay tuned for the story!) I've been coming here since I was about 5 years old. I learned how to properly swim here in their group lessons (I sacrificed watching the Animaniacs cartoon on Fox TV to do so, that was a big deal for me), anyway... one day no one except me showed up to the swimming lessons, so the swimming instructor took me to get frozen yogurt. Something that you probably couldn't do today, but that 90's were fun and free. Also the instructor was straight out of a 90's movie, blonde crimped hair with a topless blue Jeep. I thought it was super cool and it still sits in my head to this day. Other than that story, which doesn't say much for the YMCA in today's day and age. I go swimming here a lot, it definitely has the cleanest pool out of the other 5 or so YMCA's in this little Bay Area circle and I must add that everyone at the front desk are super sweet. Jeremy Lorenzen I just learned is also a master de-escalator when there is a problem. He solves it with kindness, which is very rare in these times and a huge talent to have because it's easier to get frustrated and be a mean machine. Next time I start a company I am stealing Jeremy to work for me from the YMCA. He is a legend and you guys better be giving him a raise... every week.

Yelp for at least 30 minutes yesterday and lo and behold found this little gem not too far from us…read more We use to be part of the SCCVC and had all the perks but kids grew so had to relocate so now we have no pool to dip into whenever we want. All the community pools out there require a membership fee and this is opened to the public. Family oriented with small children, no loud obnoxious grown kids that don't know how to act. Parents can bring them to the water park. I actually wish parents paid more attention to the way their children behaves in public places. This pool is great, my niece is 10 years old, perfect for her. They have a snack shack but wasn't opened so I packed an igloo and a picnic basket. The weather was gorgeous too. They do have a capacity limit, besides no one really stays for the whole entire time open to closing, that'd be insane. Two to three hours is good, not unless you wanna look like fried chicken. Three young lifeguards trained well, paying attention at all times to the children in and outside of the pool area. Thinking of coming back next weekend again with my niece and BFF daughter who is also 10. A place where the kids can be kids and it's summertime.

It's beautiful with tons of plants lots of grass. I like that membership is only for the residents of Brighton Square making it safer with a good element of people. When it came time to look for summer swimming lessons it was an easy choice for us to chose Brighton. The pool and the area around it was always clean. I was able to relax and enjoy watching my daughter swim. My son did not take lessons but was able to go with me and entertain himself with the tetherball and pin pong table while he waited. The lessons themselves were awesome too. We had a young man named Johnathon whom my daughter adored. He was so good for her. He right on target at picking up on my daughters abilities and needs of improvement during the first lesson. He was a great teacher and was also able to be playful in his lessons to make it more interesting. Crystal Kurotori was super friendly and informative too. Over all the entire crew was great. We would definitely return for and recommend the facility for lessons.

We toured some other facilities but we really enjoyed the small vibe of AVAC. Not to mention my wife was able to get a barnacles class with the other moms from her New Mom School into one class for the babies. After barnacles we moved our son into the starfish class with Miss Kristina had he has loved it. He loves going every week and playing in the water and he's definitely gotten a lot more comfortable being in the pool. We've now been able to take him to our local cabana pool as well as a hotel pool and he's been great. I couldn't recommend the beginner swim class enough to get your kids comfortable with being in a pool. Once we are able to figure out his daycare schedule, we will be back for more classes in teh afternoon!

It was…read morenerve wracking for all of us, but, as parents, we have to put on a brave face and cheer our kids on! She has only had 3 lessons so far, but my husband and I have been so impressed. Her teachers are very patient and supportive. Our daughter went from crying for 30 minutes (yea, the whole lesson...) to 5 minutes to no minutes! The staff has all been friendly- in and outside of the pool! We look forward to seeing how else she progresses at this school! I also want to give a special shout out to our instructor Violet-- you have really helped our daughter get more comfortable in the water while encouraging her to expand her comfort zone. We first started coming when my son was around 1.5 yrs. We were doing the parent/child swim class…read more Covid hit, they closed and we stopped attending. About a year ago we signed back up. There are a few things that I wish were different. Because the group classes are 3 kids to 1 instructor, each kid is only getting about 10 minutes of working time. The rest of the time they are sitting in the steps while the instructor works with the other kids. Secondly, it does seem like the instructor turn around is high. My son has gone through 3 instructors in as many months. It also would be helpful if we knew when/how often they are tested for advancement. I initially thought it was once a month, but I don't think that's the case. If they tested the last week of the month on a monthly basis would be nice. Third, and the one that bugs me the most is they don't enforce their "No shoes on the pool deck" policy. It's a great rule, but not great if it's not enforced. Every class parents come into the shower area with their street shoes on. I'm sorry, but for the safety of the kids (and adults adhering to the policy) shoes should be taken off. It is so gross to imagine what is in the bottom of their shoes and my kid and I are walking all over that in wet, bare feet. And it's not like people don't know or that the signs are hidden. The signs are posted on the door leading to the shower and pool area. Other than that, the instructors are nice, but for the price it's a little steep, especially if I'm paying for 30 minutes and only getting 10 minutes of instructional time. I like the convenience of its proximity to where I live, but I may start looking for a different swim school .

Unfortunately, constant coach changes meant our younger daughter never learned to swim despite two years of lessons -- every time progress was made, a new instructor reset the process. When we finally found a coach who worked for both girls, the school switched them without any discussion. When we raised concerns, the person running the school (Maggie) was dismissive and condescending rather than willing to listen. We also dealt with frequent last-minute cancellations (Sandy expecting immediate response last minute ). The coaches themselves were often great, but management's poor communication made it impossible to continue. Get all commitments in writing before enrolling.

I have even gotten a phone call after 9 pm one day from her and it was just to let me know about scheduling! Not urgent. I will say though that they have tried thier best to notify me about changes to the coaches which is appreciated and I have returned the favor by being as clear as I can. They baby chaging station near the pool is between the men and women's bathroom's and doesn't get used much. Personally I would prefer it in both shower/bathrooms to feel comfortable changing my baby there so I get it. They have a changing room inside away from the pool though. It would be nice if the showers had more coverage as the curtains are a bit flimsy and gap quite a bit. The pool is covered so the sun protection is appreciated. The pool can get somewhat crowded so free swim is restricted to a very small area. The classes can collide some but it makes sense due to the pool size. My older daughter learned to swim here so with patient instructors and some time, goals can be reached here! This place is very very obsessed with yelp reviews and I was pressured to amend and clarify my previous review. This may or may not have happened with others. We had a decent experience there, but because you have to deal with the manager (who can be pleasant at times except in my experience when it comes to misunderstandings and communication boundaries) it can be a bit of deterent.

We enjoyed it so far but it has its good and bad The bad is 15 bucks if you want to bring a friend.i I understand. On holidays or peak hours have no guests or 15 bucks fine but weekdays or slow days 5 bucks come on it's not like a hotel your not doing any more clean up then usual if you even clean. Agnew I've been on a quest to get my 5-year-old to learn how to swim through various means. We had success at finding a good place at Saratoga Star Aquatics (http://goo.gl/zqCS7v), but the distance issue from my south SJ home forced me to look elsewhere. A friend recommended to me Pinehurst Cabana Club which was both close to home and fit my budget. Our experience there was so-so, and I've decided to break it down with another rendition of my the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Good -Reasonable price of $60/week for either x5 (M-Fri) 30-minute morning lessons (10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) or x4 (M-Thu) 30-minute evening lessons (6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.) -Instructors were great and my son really enjoyed his time with them. -The pool itself is immaculate and seems to be kept up very well. -Great location that was only five minutes from my parent's house and about ten from mine. It's also only a few minutes from Hwy 87 and Capitol Expwy Auto Mall. -The class sizes are really small, with a max of four kids, but he was usually either one-on-one or with only one other kid. The Bad -The getting screwed out of one lesson for the same price because you can't make it during the day is kinda shitty, and no real reason was given. -The club itself is old, outdated and in major need of a renovation. Some of the pool furniture/patio sets there have seen their better days, and the bathrooms are pretty bad, as well. -Limited lesson season that only last from June - August The Ugly -They have a really strict cancellation policy, that I'm not sure they explain very well. Yes, it's clearly stated on the contract you sign, but nobody reads that. My Mom was the one who initially signed him up because we wanted him to have day lessons. So the first week goes off without a hitch, and then the second week he has his Monday lesson and the next day he wakes up feeling a bit sick. So my Mom calls to let them know he's feeling sick and she claims the lady she spoke with offered to just move his lessons to next week. My mom agree and that's that―or so we thought. They were all booked up for days during that 3rd week so he got pushed to the 6:30 p.m. time slot. We arrive that day and they are asking for a payment. I told them that they pushed his last week's classes to this week and they said they would have to check. After speaking with my mom she claims they never said anything about forfeiting the $60 and having to pay for the next week's classes seperate. The "manager" who claims that she spoke with my mom swears that she told her about the policy before moving him to the following week, but I think that's complete BS. I don't like to call people liars, but I know my Mom and she's just as cheap as me. There's no way she would've just let $60 go right down the drain―especially since the boy was feeling better by Thursday. I didn't feel like arguing and didn't want to get into a she said-she said nonsense, so I reluctantly paid up. I wasn't happy, but the contract is the contract. I've watched too much Judge Judy to try and fight it. The whole thing was probably just a "miscommunication," but they need to make themselves *crystal* clear when dealing in matters of money. Ultimately, I think we will still be back next Summer for more lessons. The price, location and great instructors will triumph over the bitter taste in my mouth from the rescheduling fiasco. Recommended for getting your wee one swim lessons, just beware the fine print.
