I have a 29 year old car with 190,000 miles. The trans was slipping, and Tim took a look at it, determining not only that there was a fixable leak, but also that the trans was in very good shape for the mileage. He repaired the leak and did a full trans service for a very reasonable price. Almost any other trans place would have insisted that I replace the trans. The dealer said that I had a leak in my transmission and needed to spend 3-8k to urgently reseal Or replace the transmission. I called Tim and he looked at it and said it was not urgent. He was thoughtful and included information that helped us decide what needs to be done now and what might need to be done in the future as well as a timeline to monitor it and so I left feeling listened to with great information. Tim did a great job getting my son's truck in for a clutch job after a slave cylinder broke. He fit it in between other cars he was working on. It was a fair price and I knew it was done right. Like Mr. Nice Guy H., I received an honest quote, it too was a very high price and learned that is because they want to rebuild your transmission, it's the best way to make the most money on you...hard parts can easily total 2k or more just for a few parts. Parts they don't know about until they take the tranny out and take it apart. Then you're really stuck at their mercy. These guys have no problem sticking it to you, oh, as for his commercials, he only advertises on Christian radio...hmm why's that? Gullibility. Those who hear the ads erroneously believe he cares. He does, about making as much as possible. I asked if he was a Christian and he stumbled around before he sheepishly struggled to say yes. I have no problem saying: YES, ABSOLUTELY I AM A CHRISTIAN!! JFYI - He's not the only one that uses Christian radio for advertising. These people feed off of your trust in them from having advertised on Christian radio. read more

I have come here twice with minor car issues, both times, Tim and his group were able to see me the same day I called in and were able to figure things out for me the same day, which is pretty amazing. The first time, I had been told that there was a problem with my transmission by another auto shop. I was so nervous that I was going to have a huge repair bill. They saw me the same-day I called, checked out my transmission and told me there was nothing to worry about and didn't charge me for the evaluation. I'm a woman who knows nothing about cars. This was the first and only time that I didn't feel like I got taken advantage off walking out of an auto shop! I honestly couldn't believe it. The second time was also an incredibly positive experience--Tim saw me same-day (at the very end of the day too--he and his team were there past closing), made a small fix, and did not charge me. He also explained everything that was going on with my car, which I really appreciated. This group is super honest and hard-working and really goes the extra mile. My 1996 Ford Econoline HD (long body) was leaking transmission fluid rather badly. I drove in to Tim's shop at 8:00AM and they immediately put the van on a lift. It was obvious that I needed a new transmission pan gasket and a new rear main seal. They quoted me $400 for the work and were able to start immediately. During the process the technician showed me some things under the van that he thought I should know about. At the end he showed me how to check the transmission fluid level, and how to add fluid. Everyone was careful, courteous, and helpful. I left the shop very satisfied. I will go there again should I ever need transmission repairs or servicing. read more

The "Not Good" designation is hardly adequate to rate the level of incompetence and lack of professionalism of these people. There should be a qualifier of "The Worst." They took forever to "rebuild" the transmission. Once they were "done" it was clear something was not right. Their delays and excuses were so exhausting that I took it to another shop for a second opinion. They discovered loose pieces of metal floating around in the transmission case. They called Aatco to inquire, and Tim replied, "You opened it up, so now the problem is yours." Zero accountability! The new shop had to completely rebuild it again, because Aatco's work was so bad it was unsalvageable. Not only that but the new shop was $1,000- less for the same work. read more

I cannot recommend this business enough! I had my truck towed to a repair shop not knowing the problem. Manager said it was the transmission and that Tim was the best around. After speaking with Tim, he offered to go to the repair shop and take a look before having it towed to his shop. It was the transmission, all right. It had blown up and there was shrapnel throughout. Thinking they had cleared all the debris, he said to come in but decided to take it out one more time. Sure enough, there were more shavings causing a sensor to go off. Flushed it out yet again, and kept the original charges he had quoted! Said to come back in a couple of weeks so he can check that there is no more debris. Great guy and great work! read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. I took my SUV there as it had a problem downshifting at 30 MPH. No problem accelerating. I thought the Owner would give a computer diagnosis and test drive, but he had an employee test drive it only. No other diagnosis. The employee was gone quite a while, and when he returned he spoke with the owner behind a closed door. The owner said I need a completely rebuilt transmission for about $8,000. Immediately after I left his shop the SUV was MUCH worse. I literally could barely get home. It slipped out of all gears and I had to pull off the side of the on-ramp to 217! Kelly Blue Book estimates a repair for my make & model in this area to be btwn $4,800-5,200. I now have two other quotes and both mechanics say they will put in a brand NEW transmission from Ford. One bid is a bit more than the $5,200 and is a bit under $4,800. I will never go back to this place! read more

My wife and I own a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup. We took our truck into the shop. Tim told us that we might be able to get by with a transmission flush. Being that it was a 20 year old truck,and not knowing if the transmission had ever been flushed before. Can create more problems. So a 20 year old truck with a 177000 on it we decided to get the transmission rebuilt. Took a little longer than we hoped because he was behind. And that is understandable. Had a sticky/ temperamental clutch in my 2007 manually Honda Civic that really made me question it's reliability. Called up Tim at AATCO Transmission and he told me to come on down for a diagnostic. After a quick test drive, Tim noted that the pedal was perhaps a little too loose (one potential for the issue) and would have his team take a quick look. They checked the fluids, fixed the loose pedal and even buffed a foggy headlight, but could not reproduce the issue. Tim was kind and stated that there's a likelihood that the issue was just the pedal - but to keep an eye on it and bring it in if it acts up again. They did this all pretty efficiently and didn't even charge for the diagnostic, pedal tightening or headlight buff! Been driving it since with no issue. Really appreciate the kindness especially given the cost of repairs and vehicle replacement. Tim's a real one! read more

I took my 2012 Toyota Camry here earlier this month to get my brakes done. Tim is great and Dale did a good job but unfortunately I wont be taking any of my vehicles there for service anymore as there were a couple incidents that happened while I waited. While using the restroom there was drug paraphernalia by the sink and when Dale was looking under my car a meth pipe fell out of his pocket and broke. My son is an ex meth user. This drug is the devil and you cant trust anyone who uses it. It was just an uncomfortable unsafe feeling after that. read more

I did not get service done here, but I did bring it in to have some transmission seepage assessed on our 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE. Tim evaluated the car and then told me that the seepage did not appear to be bad (minor blowback) and that the transmission could last a long time as long as we monitored things carefully and ensured that did not let the fluids get low. Otherwise, he said it would be a $3500 repair. I was impressed that he did not try to sell me this repair, that he took a lot of time to explain things to me--even bringing me out to the garage to show me the seepage while the van was on a lift--, and even volunteered to show me how to monitor and top off the fluid levels. All without any cost. He struck me as a very honest person who wants to do the right thing for his customers. I would not hesitate to bring my cars in for transmission work. read more

Alright, so here is my story. I was having problems with my trucks manual transmission. Noisy as hell when shifting, had to fight to get it into gear. The problem got progressively worse, and as broke as I am I had no choice but to take it in. I've had that truck for a long time. It is ugly, but it is a part of the family and I dare say that until now, even more reliable than some of my family members. ;) Aamco was first. They didn't listen to it. They simply simply said it would cost $1500 since they had to put the transmission on the bench to find out what was wrong with it, and once it is there they may as well rebuild it. I used to be a contractor. You don't give estimates without knowing how much you are going to spend in parts and labor, so this didn't smell good from the very beginning. I had heard through the grapevine about Tim's AATCO Transmission and called. I got Tim on the phone and he asked me to bring it in and said he would take a look at it. As soon as I got there, he jumped in the truck and drove it around. He recognized the noise and bought it back to the bay to have his mechanics listen to it. Tim told me it would no more than $520 in the worst case and that he would call me if they found something new when they opened her up. I got a call from him the next day to let me know the work was done. The bill was exactly as he said it would be. They even fixed a couple of things wrong with the truck that they noticed on their own, like the return spring on the clutch pedal, etc... I don't know about you, but in my mind $520 is a lot better than $1500. The difference here is the business model. Tim is an honest guy, making a living by repeat business rather than seeing potential clients as some one to be robbed blind. He is old school and has an old school business ethos. My experience is exemplary for the differences in the way that huge chains and independents do business. I can't recommend Tim enough. If you have problems with your vehicle, give him a try. He'll save you money, time and you'll be helping an independent company that does business the way it was meant to be. read more

I called them first because I heard them on the radio station I listen to. I was shocked with how low the price was but I called 3 or 4 other shops and they still came in the lowest and were the friendliest on the phone. I have not on the car long they were nice enough to make a list of things that they saw and let me know if they thought it was a urgent need or if it could wait. Then they left it up to me whether I wanted to do the additional items or not. They finish the job promptly and even went the extra mile to help were they could. I would suggest them to anyone looking for a good transmission shop. read more

Dropped it off, he calls back, car was just two quarts low on tranny fluid! When I asked how much we owed him, he said no, wouldn't let us pay! They were able to pull my van in that morning figgure out what was wrong within 10mins. And instead of making $1000 repair insisted to double check warranty to ensure the issue wasn't covered. We took our VW in for transmission service a few weeks back. We called around to a bunch of shops, and the dealer, and they had the best price, and a lot of great reviews on here. I talked with Tim on the phone to get our appointment set up for the next week, and my wife drove the car down there on the morning of the appointment. We knew going in that the transmission service was more difficult on a VW than most cars, and when we got it in there it turns out they needed some special tooling that they didn't have to do the job correctly. Tim didn't want to risk damaging the trans, so he apologized and said he couldn't do it. He did call a man he knew at the VW dealer, however and got us connected with a mechanic who could take care of us, and got the dealer to take almost $100 off of their price to do the service. Going that extra mile for someone he wan't even getting any money for is why I'm writing this review. There's no doubt that we'll be back next time we need work done on any of our transmissions going forward. read more

Like everyone else, I am watching my "retired person's" budget very carefully. So, when my Toyota needed a new clutch job, I called around to get estimates and selected someone who was on the lower end of the bids. Unfortunately, the work took a week instead of two days and when I got my Toyota back it had new, strange sounds even though the original problem seemed to have been fixed. I had planned on having my daughter drive the car some 800 miles so, understandably, I was concerned about whether it really was fixed or not and wondering if my daughter would end up stranded somewhere. I finally decided that someone who was knowledgeable should take a look at it. I called Tim's AATCO Transmission & Transaxle in Beaverton and explained my situation; Tim Schroeder, the owner and manager, told me he would be happy to look at it. To my surprise and delight, they really did look at the car and made several adjustments. While I was waiting for them, I noticed they had a bulletin board with thank you cards and letters from satisfied customers. Honestly, after that experience I left feeling very positive and grateful. Our 2001 Infinity QX4 was somehow stuck in 4WD LOW gearing. I called our trusted Mechanic only to hear from him that he didn't work on transmissions like this, but he referred us to Tim's and said he had received very good feedback about the quality of work and integrity. I called and scheduled a time a few days later so that my wife and son could drop the car off. They pretty quickly realized the problem was "user error" and fixed the problem on the spot with no charge. They could have taken a while to diagnose the problem and/or tried to take advantage of the situation, but they didn't! My clutch was horrible and needed to be fixed. I called Tim who was very eager and willing to get me back on the road again. Tim was able to get me a cheap rental car during the repair, and followed the estimate to the letter. During the service work, they did identify some other issues that needed to be address (mainly the rear main seal, axle boot, and a few others). He told me that it wasn't critical to have these extra items repaired, but he let me decide if I should go ahead and let them do it. I did, and the added price to do the extra work was very inexpensive (anyone knows having a shop replace a main seal will run you around $1000, Tim offered to do it for a tenth of that amount). I'll tell you, that new clutch is awesome, and the car runs way better now. These guys deserve 6 stars for the work. read more

Came here after my car ceased to have propulsion on the freeway. My mechanic doesn't do transmissions and recommended Tim's. I feared I had lost my transmission. Tim called me and said that he could give me a new transmission but that was not the actual issue. Instead my axel had broken. This was $500 rather than $3000. I was having trouble with my transmission shifting and he had me come by to run a computer diagnostic on the engine and found out that it was sensor that went bad and not the transmission at all. Tim is amazing, just so honest and incredibly helpful. Our van was in need of a new transmission but because of the car's advanced age, I was leaning toward not doing the service and just getting rid of the car. Even knowing that he may not make any money from me, he gave me wonderful advice on an inexpensive tow company and wrecking yards that would treat me right. He inspected my vehicle free of charge to be certain that it did need a new transmission and then gave me the full price that it would end up being, not some low, "get you in the door" price. This helped me to make the decision to not do the service, which was wonderful for me but not to his advantage. Then when the wrecking yard guy came to negotiate the price, Tim even helped us out with that! Pointed out the positives of the car and stood with us as we agreed on a price. Amazing, and DEFINITELY above and beyond! We were referred to Tim by a friend and I can see why. We will be referring our friends to him going forward. I took my (new to me) 2002 Dodge Ram Cargo Van into Tim because it was having problems getting stuck in a lower gear and my normal auto repair place couldn't figure out what the problem was. He was patient while I asked 1000 questions and fixed it in less than a day! Another place I called said it would take a week just to do the diagnostic test. Tim's was recommended to me by No1 japanese auto service as the only place they refer for transmission work. I took my Rav4 there and Tim called to say that the transmission was not working but that Toyota had extended the warranty on the transmission due to frequent problems and I should take it to the dealership. When I picked up my car he didn't charge me anything and had printed out the paperwork and checked that I qualified for the warranty extension. At the dealership, they checked it out and agreed about the transmission. They tried to charge me not knowing about the warranty. After I told them, they "looked it up" and warrantied the work. Amazingly honest. Highly recommended. Not only did, Tim not sell me a transmission I did not need. He even drove my car 2 miles down the road to another auto mechanic when he determined the transmission did not need to be replaced. I was stunned when he told me the transmission was fine- another repair shop suggested the transmission needed to be replaced. BUT I was speechless when he offered to drive it to another repair shop for a tune-up (he only works on transmissions). He didn't charge us a dime.
