Went to a Michigan State basketball game and stayed for the weekend. They won so of course we went to a bar after dinner. We decided to go to Tin Can Bar to hang out. The place was relatively crowded due to no cover charge. They have TV screens to watch games, seating along the sides with a space in between the seats and the bar. As you get deeper into the bar there is a beer pong table and another room that has darts. The drinks prices are lower than other venues. The service is good and was able to get drinks quickly. The music was good and played all types of genres. Overall, it was a fun time hanging with my son and his friends. Tin Can was a typical college bar and I'd come back again. read more

Would not suggest coming in when the so-called manager with the blue hair and black nail polish is working. was rude and disrespectful and called one of my friends annoying because he confronted the "manager" for letting in a minor with no ID and said "well she can come in because it's my friend" while yelling and clinching his teeth. He also stole my other friends change and then got mad when we confronted him once again and said a smart comment like it's only 5ish dollars and then kept on blaming his problems on his actual manager saying they are causing him stress and problems throughout the whole night. Asked him if the kitchen was open. He first said no and then said yes, while getting mad that we ordered mozzarella sticks. Then proceeded to tell everybody at the bar that we didn't tip him for the mozzarella sticks (we tipped him collectively about $15 from the previous transaction) then obviously stopped tipping after the attitude,screaming, and table banging. Long story short he threatened to call the cops as we all agreed and said that's fine call them so we can tell them you let in minors but no worries it's okay because you know them. Could go on and on about this situation but I'd be more than happy to discuss this with an actual manager because this service is unacceptable and very unprofessional. Terrible rude service. "Manager" with black glasses and blue hair tried to keep our change as a tip and got an attitude when confronted him about it, not only that - was letting in minors without proofs of IDs. We then simply asked him about that as it's a 21+ establishment & he yelled at us to leave and called us homophobic?? - that was quite a stretch and tried to pull out any excuse to attempt to justify his behavior. Tin Can East Lancing is a good place to relax, enjoy some games, watch sports while enjoying some bar food. My first time here didn't include the night life aspect but I just wanted a drink and something for lunch. I thoroughly enjoy their mac and cheeseburger as well as their breaded wings and I get it almost every single time I'm hungry here. Depending on the day, sometimes the bar can get day busy but at night it's a lot livelier. Bar food is great, a lot of fried snacks, burgers, wings, pizza, this restaurant/ bar does offer a lot. I know it doesn't sound the healthiest bar but they do offer slightly healthier options like wraps. They have a good selection of beers and local beers and they almost always have pudding shots which are fun that always come in different flavors. It is a nice alternative to jello shots. But of course, they don't just offer beer but they have straight liquor too, so a little something for everyone. The best way to park here is paid parking and probably catching a, "cab." Newly opened, the Tin Can Bar is a Lansing (and Grand Rapids) staple, now in downtown East Lansing. They only serve beer in cans, but they have an impressive list with many Michigan beers to choose from! Beers range from $2.25 to $5.50, so be prepared to try a few! They also have a large selection of shots (including pudding shots)! They also have a small menu with classics like pizzas, quesadillas, tacos, hot dogs, sandwiches and wraps. My favorite is the CBR quesadilla. You can spend your birthday in the can - just call ahead 24 hours to reserve and you'll get a free shirt and a personalized cake! Tin Can is more of an under the radar bar in East Lansing. The crowd here can skew a little older, with more grad students than undergrads and rarely is super packed which makes it a good option for those of us that hate to wait in lines. If you like draft beer, this is not the place for you. However, if you like beer from a can, Tin Can can satisfy almost any desire. The craft cans skew for Michigan breweries, but their overall inventory is pretty impressive and you can find pretty much any style of beer (as long as it comes in a can). At the same time, you can get macro brews like bud light, miller, coors etc. in 12 oz cans or 24 oz'ers which is nice. Also every day of the week cans of PBR are available for $2! Although the focus is on canned beer, tin can still has liquor drinks. Their well vodka is burnett's which will bring you back to your early high school/college drinking days, but a little alcohol nostalgia never killed anyone. For more novelty items the Tin Can makes delicious frozen pudding shots (I recommend the birthday cake flavor) and "Faygo Bombs" which are mixed shots that are usually a liquor with different flavors of Faygo, the ones I've had are all quite tasty. The food at Tin Can is a delightful surprise. In my opinion, their french fries are the best fries in town, even better than Crack Fries (GASP). Everything else I've had from the grill is good as well, love their fried pizza rolls and burgers too. Plus, they have great food deals most week nights so you can always find a cheap bite. Tin Can also has a bunch of games that can be played too, people usually play beer pong, giant connect 4, darts, and Big Buck Hunter. Wouldn't recommend the darts because they are far too dull. Overall, if you're looking for a more laid back bar in East Lansing if you're trying to get away from the chaos that is Rick's and Harper's, Tin Can is a great alternative. read more

Not going to lie all the negative reviews on here were probably written by underage kids who are salty their fakes got taken or drunk idiots who are mad that they were put into place. The guy who got searched for a beer in his hoodie had one, I was there and saw the kid. This bar is the only bar really respecting laws in EL. Bouncer is friendly and kind if you are respectful to him. Same goes to the servers. Just because it's a college town doesn't mean they don't deserve respect. Had the worst possible experience here. I came in around 1am and ordered $25 worth of beer and food when it was relatively busy. I then proceeded to sit at a high top table and noticed a chalkboard full of names and signatures of people who had been to this bar. I then wanted to join in too and stood on top of a chair for a split second to sign my name amongst other names at that same level enough for a bouncer to aggressively demand that I get down from standing on the chair then started physically shaking the high top chair that I was standing on. Not only did this completely scare me and make me cry, but I was lucky enough to have not fallen and been concussed. After speaking with the bouncer and the bartender they both had absolutely no explanation as to why they handled the situation so inappropriately and couldn't have been bothered to just politely ask me to get down in the first place in a normal tone of voice, that I decided to leave and WILL NEVER RETURN. Wish I could give this place zero stars and I want my money back. Whoever trained this bouncer to handle situations like this deserves to be fired. read more

This is probably one of the saddest, most embarrassing, and most bitter experiences I've had going out. Due to a small tear in the lining of my driver's license, a bartender took my ID card to the back of the bar after getting an order from me and my friends. Initially, I assumed the bartender forgot to give me my card back and went to prepare our order while having my card in his hand. I noticed that my friends got their cards back but I did not. The bartender came back and said my ID was fake and asked if I wanted to call the police. I initially said 'no' because I knew my ID was real and that I didn't think it was necessary. I wasn't given my ID back and was asked to leave. Knowing my ID was real and feeling like a criminal at this point, I told him to call the police. After the police arrived, I was asked to step outside and get my ID verified--which it was. The police explained that, since we're in a heavily populated college student area, fakes are everywhere. Totally understandable! I proceeded to ask a couple of follow-up questions--most of which were aimed at what the bar's verification process looked like. The officer responded saying that the bartender likely saw the small rip on my ID card and proceeded to want to call the police. I was not given any additional information as to what the verification process looked like, but I don't believe a plain sight issue should be enough reason to directly state that an ID is fake. After the police verified to the bartender that my ID was real, the bartender shared that, because of this experience, I was able to get a free drink. I declined it because I don't believe a free drink makes up for the embarrassment that comes from this experience and proceeded to leave with my friends. I also asked the bartender if they had more of a verification process towards identifying fake IDs, but wasn't given more information other than that they see fakes all the time since they're on a college campus. While that's understandable, a plain sight 'hunch' shouldn't be enough to boldly state that an ID is fake and that I should have to leave the place of business. Since my current position deals with people and customer service, I understand the protectiveness and better-safe-than-sorry mentality that this bartender took with my situation, but this is an example of why it's better to have more measures in place before resorting to call the police to verify a real ID. Overall, I'm just embarrassed this had to happen and wish there was more that could be done at the place of establishment before authorities are even made an option. read more

This place was by far the most disrespectful place I have ever been to in regards to the way they treat combat veterans. I was at the bar ordering a drink for myself and another Marine when some woman came up to me and started talking shit to me and she even put her hands on me right in front of the bartender. I said to the bartender " You just seen that what do I do" she straight up told me to take my beer and leave. I took my beer went to the other side of the bar and few minutes later I have a bouncer in front of me try to tell me I have to leave, but then he changed his mind when a handful of people told him what they witnessed. Then the bartender came over and told him no I had to leave. I had respect for the bartender and left as I don't cause drama. I will never return to this establishment and I have also posted this on the largest Veteran/active duty/and patriotic page on Facebook that has over 1.5 members. So yes this place gets a crappy review, only thing that will change that is if they actually apologized for being disrespectful and make things right. read more

Tin Can, LANSING = awesome! Tim Can, EL should shut its doors to not hurt the brand. I have been in there 3 times now this summer at different times and different days (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) each time they have made the visit worse than the last. If they are teaching their staff to make sure that the consumer should feel like a hassle then please change my rating to 5-star. At one point a female employee was sitting on floor behind the bar while service was slow. I walked to the bar (from the game room, as this seems to be what needs to happen) asked if she was ok, her response... "Im tired, and everyone seems ok with walking up getting their own drinks". First of all, this might be info she wanted to keep to herself, and secondly that didn't even answer my question! I am not some college kid walking in with sweats and a t-shirt with puke all over it. I have been in there with business attire ready to spend some money. I've never left a bar earlier than I planned in my life until now. Please, please, please somebody step up and care about EL location, because the people in there now, either don't care, or don't know any better. I will not be returning to any of the locations until I hear something has changed. Hopcat and the Beer Gratto has been and will continue to get my business. read more
