I really like this place! I really do: Tina is so nice and I've been able to get in with same day appointments in the late afternoons. I love that there's free parking in front, although the lot gets crowded closer to dinner hours and I've had to park on a side street. Nonetheless, I also love how cute, quiet and *clean* it is inside! Tina Nail is small so I'd recommend an appointment. There are a few pedicure chairs and they use elegant bowls for pedicures. Additionally, there's about 3 nail desks, but at least there are couches and a nice, big screen tv for waiting. The price is on par with the cost of nail salons in LA and I'm impressed by the technique and tools used. I think patrons forget that aside from a nail technician's creativity for nail art, she needs the right tools! And Tina has them. I give Tina 4.5 stars and here's why: small detail - there's a ton of colors to choose from, but we as customers can't access them and pick them out for ourselves. We have to tell the technician what color we want and they pick out a few to show us. I'd rather evaluate colors myself. A first for me. The other detail - and why I've moved on to another salon is that I typically get a gelx manicure: the two times I've gotten this service done, the gelx popped off a finger (or two) after 1-2 weeks. That means, I need to run back and get it corrected, which is more time and money I don't care to spend (I've been able to have my gelx stay on (and get refills) for more than a 2 weeks elsewhere). Tina was kind enough to take my friend and I for a walk in appointment on a Saturday which I really appreciated as our schedule freed up last minute and we wanted to reward ourselves with a nice manicure. I do enjoy how nice the space is inside and how they accept card. Parking is a bit difficult to get in the busy plaza but if you're lucky, you can find some parking in the neighborhood which is just the life of living in LA. It is a bit unfortunate that there is no nail color book to pick out your nail color. Also no list of additional services such as a massage, exfoliation, etc that you could request to add on as well. In regards to the outcome of my manicure, I was a bit disappointed. I showed the design that I wanted and asked if they could do it. While I did not see any of the review photos look like the nails I wanted to get, it was my first time requesting a nail design with a photo reference. I wanted pink aura nails with a shimmery french tip and swirls on top of that which I hoped was not too complicated. I was perfectly okay if they said they couldn't do it but they said they could and charged me an extra $20 on top of that which was okay because I thought it was a small price to pay to get the nails I wanted. The end results were lack luster. My french tips were uneven. The gradient is not a smooth transition and splotchy on some nails. Furthermore I have air bubbles on some of my nails. The little swirls on top of the french nails were done sloppily and some nails have more textures than others. This was unfortunately done on my real nails with gel polish so to have them redone would have made my nails brittle. In total I paid $96 ($85 + 20% tip) for this poorly executed design on gel polish on my natural nails. It is a little bit more than what I usually spend on my manicure with less service than I usually get with other salons. I wish they had spent just a little more time on my nails or told me that with the time constraints that they were unable to execute my design. Initially, the phone experience was nice. I specified that I have dip powder on my nails and will need to remove them. Advised that typically it requires a soak, so I asked how much. She wouldn't specify an answer but made it seem like it was no big deal. Then.... I get to the appt, 5 minutes early mind you. And she looks at my nails and asks what I want to do about the dip powder currently on my nails. I explain again that I have dip powder and need to remove it. She says it will be 15 dollars to REMOVE my dip powder because it is "difficult". Umm... the place I normally go to only has me soak them. She insisted that they are difficult to take off. I'm like how because all I have to do is soak them? Then she says she needs to use the tools to remove them, by cutting away at them. She refused to soak them because she has another appointment at 330. WHY WOULD YOU MAKE MY APPT AT 3pm? And then book another one at 330 knowing the details of what I needed? I also explained to her that the issue isn't the $15 fee, while ridiculous it is, the issue was the PAIN she was about to put me through by removing the dip powder with clippers and cutting them w her other tools. Seriously, why would you do that to anyone? I wondered why the salon was empty when I arrived at peak Saturday time (3pm), and now I know why. To be clear, she was not rude. But, it is very bad business to not be transparent about your fees and make someone drive far for an appointment to then surprise them about your fees. Also, it's bad business to put your customers through unnecessary pain. The second I told her I had dip powder on my nails she should have said no, I can't service that. I tried to ignore the long negative review in the midst of all the other positive ones because I was like what are the odds, let me give them a chance since I need a new nail spot closer to me. Maybe that other person was unreasonable. But NOPE.... I was wrong. Don't waste your time ladies. Make sure you get a clear answer before making the drive. Aside from that, they seem nice enough, but be sure that they do not value your time. read more
