I have done keratin so many times before that I decided to give Japanese straightening a try. I cannot emphasize the improvement that I am noticing just within a day of the straightening treatment. Thanks to the treatment: 1. My scalp is no longer itchy 2. The hair is shinier and looks much longer than with Keratin 3. I have to leave it on for three days but it does not smell like Keratin 4. It is less chemically heavy as my hair feels silky as opposed to heavy 5. My eyes were not once irritated as I was getting the treatment or right now as I am waiting until I can wash it again. Today it is raining in Austin and humid and it is not affecting the hair. Now as far as Tina, she is super kind, professional and to the point. She loves getting to know her customers and really wants to understand you and your life style so that she can help you with what is best for your hair. She upkeeps with you via text to hold you accountable to make sure you are taking care of your hair properly and also to remind you of her appointment. Tina is basically a hair magician! I have very thick, frizzy course hair and have done everything from Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments to Dominican blowouts. On average my hair takes 2 hours to flat iron which I didn't think was bad considering I only do it once a week. All of the services above ranged from $200-$600. Keep in mind my hair is long so I expect to pay more however the services above only lasted 2-3 months tops. I spoke with Tina after hearing she is the best of the best when it comes to hair straightening especially Japanese straighteners. I appreciated the fact that she was very adamant on wanting to do a hair consultation and see my natural texture. I mean she takes her job very seriously and wants the best results and I could tell within the first 10 mins she was legit. She has you fill out a questionnaire regarding your hair, texture and overall health as hormones and many other things can take a natural toll on hair growth and texture. She even filed my info and a picture of my hair away. So I paid the $100 deposit and scheduled my appointment for the first opening which was 2 months later. I am currently 2weeks post appointment and I couldn't be more pleased. I just washed my hair this afternoon and let it air dry. For the first time ever I can shower at the gym and walk out with wet hair and not worry about looking like a chia pet!! I can swim and layout and not have a fro 30 mins later and if I want it to be shiny then I quickly run a flat iron over it...I did just that this evening and in 12 mins and 52 seconds ( I know this because I timed it as it usually takes about 2hours) my hair looked like it belonged on a Pantene Pro V commercial. If I could give Tina 10 stars - I would. I started my search for a specialist in Japanese Hair Straightening last week on Yelp and Tina Q Salon appeared at the top of the list. She immediately had me in for a 10 minute consultation, walked me through an in depth analysis of my hair, coached me through soothing my dry scalp and color treated locks, and set very real expectations for the results of the process. When she couldn't fit me in to before my trip to Spain two weeks later, she GRACIOUSLY offered to come in on her day off to ensure my hair was sleek and straight for me European trip. I filled out her questionnaire, paid my deposit, and couldn't wait to see her next. The day before my official appointment, she sent me a reminder text with instructions to best prep my hair before the appointment. Not only that - but she reminded me to bring my laptop and snacks so I could work during the long (about 5 hour) process. IT JUST GETS BETTER - she even let my assistant join me in the private salon so we could get a full days work completed! The day of the appointment, Tina was courteous, incredibly professional, and so charming. She worked quickly, updating me on the steps as she progressed. She even moved furniture around so my assistant and I could work comfortably together! For the Japanese Straightening Treatment, you go through approximately 10 steps: - she applies a solution to very small sections of hair - you sit under the dryer - she washes the solution out - she blow dries your hair - she flat irons your hair in tiny sections to seal the hair - she applied a cooling solution - she rewashes your hair - blowdries again - cuts your hair (if you're receiving a haircut as well) - flatirons the tips for an extra sleek look Then, she'll walk you through your three days of maintenance (no getting your hair wet for 72 hours), and how to maintain it before you see her again in 6-8 months. I'll start off by saying that as a Greek/Italian girl, I have very curly, thick, and completely unmanageable hair - and a lot of it at that. She made me feel so comfortable and confident in what I was about to do to my hair. Tina is truly a miracle worker. She is a master of Japanese straightening and has the ability to turn the hair you were born with into the hair you've always wished you had. Before Tina transformed my hair into silky, smooth, "skinny hair," I would spend hours on end just to get my unmanageable hair to look decent. Now, I don't have to do anything to it after I wash it. Literally, nothing... it's a dream! My hair dries perfectly straight and looks so healthy and amazing with absolutely no blowdrying or damaging irons required. After driving an hour and having a 5 to 10 minute meeting (started late also), she told me to come back in 6 months when my hair was longer. Although my hair has breakage my curly hair at its chin length went passed shoulder length when straight. She went on to tell me I was prettier with long hair, referring to a picture of me with my hair straightened when it was mid back. I cut my hair on my own previously but wanted a short straight bob after JHS anyways. She continued to say she works with long hair. I was able to find an experienced stylist much closer who never complained of length and who did not offend me with comments. She did the JHS, then cut even more so I could achieve the style I was after. I knew she just didn't want to work with me since men with small Mohawks are getting JHS. My hair looks great and was cut to a pin straight bob no thanks to Tina Q. Don't drive an hour away for an incorrect and rushed assessment especially if you have very curly hair. She doesn't understand that curly hair can be very deceiving in length. Also if you've been turned away for length it was just because she lacks the experience. read more

Because my hair is very thin and delicate. And sometimes it gets really hard to keep it in place. It's a little rough and dry. . It has now been three weeks since Tina did my Japanese hair straightening, and I can honestly say this is by far the best hair decision I've ever made, and by far the best hair money I've ever spent. It is seriously life changing. In the last three weeks alone, I have saved over 6 hours of styling time on my hair - I literally just step out of the shower and don't have to do anything else to it. I've been to a lot of different places over the years for the same treatment and none have come close to Tina in terms of quality (amazing), service (super responsive), and cost (very reasonable). I've had the Japanese Straightening done several times when I lived in El Paso and when I moved here I was looking to save a buck and made the mistake of purchasing a groupon for this service. Let me just say, you definitely get what you pay for. My hair was ruined!
