Let's start with the food. Excellent. I had the veggie taco which was really amazing. Flavorful. Different. Nicely done. Also had the Avocado taco which was a bit boring, but still perfectly good. Service a bit slow, but really not a big deal. Yellow jackets outdoors were an issue. It's outdoors-- I get it. But there are easy things they should be doing. Cover the trash cans. Came here in October 2021, had a good experience, they weren't crowded at the time. Came back this past weekend (July 16, 2022) and they were very busy, so we didn't mind waiting for our food, BUT we did ask for pico on the side for 3 of our 8 tacos we got. Well when the girl came with our food we noticed the the 3 tacos had pico on them, we asked her if she could fix it, and she sat there arguing with us that they were correct. Who does that? We know what we ordered and we specifically asked no pico on 3! Don't sit there and argue with us, all other restaurants would go get us what we asked for. The the best was one of the chicken tacos had a bone in it, not at little one but a fairly big one, look at the pic. She proceeds to tell us they cook a whole chicken and sometimes bones are in the food!?? OMG! What a beautiful spot overlooking the stream running through Woodstock. The tacos barbacoa, and fish, were made with the freshest ingredients. The cocktails, hibiscus margaritas, handcrafted by James, left us craving more. And that bathroom!! It's pristine, with a gorgeous view of the trees, and clouds against the azure summer sky. Oh!! HOLY MOLY AMAZEBALLS, The tacos were just incredible. I got the special pork cheek taco, and sweet potato. Both were amazing. I got the yam tamales which I loved but my girlfriend wasn't so crazy about. My girlfriend got the Fish, Carnita and Barbacoa. All absolutely incredible. "This is actually the best taco I've ever had in my entire life." -My girlfriend, who eats a lot of tacos. can't recommend enough. I also like that there are no servers and its order at the counter. I didn't get any drinks but I would trust these guys as the level of food was so high and I don't care much for high-end service. For people who think it's expensive, you pay for what you get. Our favourite tacos are the barbacoa (the slightly burnt beef and the fresh mango cubes juxtapose beautifully) and the carnitas tacos. There is a good beer and cocktail selection as well. Sometimes there is a really cute collie with a brown and white spotted coat hanging around the restaurant or napping on the windowsill. I get the vibe up here is slowed down and relaxed but over 15 minutes waiting at the bar with out even an acknowledgment from a bar tender is a little much. We attempted a drink here on Saturday night gave up and came back Sunday for lunch. The taco's are decent. The veggie taco is delicious, and while the fried avocado sounds like the best thing ever, it's fairly tasteless and could use something else. Also what type of taco joint doesn't have guac?! Crazy. We arrived just as they were opening up for the day. The kitchen was already set and the delicious smells were already seeping out into the street. We walked in to be greeted by a jubilant couple (or at least I assumed they were) who told us a bit about the food and showed us the menu. I'd read an article at Woodstockx.com listing the three newest restaurant's to hit the town and I tried two out of three of them on this visit; Tinker Taco Lab and Nana's. I'll hit up Provisions on the next one. I'm really glad another place with Mexican cuisine had opened up because after reading all of the terrible reviews about Taco Juan's this town was just screaming for a better alternative. As we waited and decided on what we would like to order we listened to the sounds of Sade, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Sarah Vaughan etc. In fact for the entire course of our visit I did not hear a single bad song in their playlist. I had to commend them on their fantastic taste in music. The décor was also not too shabby either. A few stools at the kitchen area and another section across where you could gaze in the mirror to see your food being prepared in the open kitchen behind you. Outside the back window you could see a small stream flowing behind the restaurant. There is a picnic table outside as well if you'd prefer to dine al fresco. They make everything fresh and even invited some of their patron's to come behind the counter to have a look. That's always a good sign when the chef is proud of his kitchen. We decided on fish tacos made with mahi mahi, and the carnitas made with pork belly confit. The hard tacos were served with pickled vegetables in a lined plastic basket. It didn't take very long at all to get our order prepared. Their selection of drinks was excellent and even had some obscurely unique offerings for example one was called dandelion burdock. I've never seen a drink like this in my life. I wasn't feeling too adventurous at the time so I stuck with a pomegranate Pellegrino and my son got the Virgil's cream soda made with real vanilla bean. We just wanted a light snack for our little journey through town so we would get some energy but not feel overly full and could therefore sample a few more places along the way. These taco's were perfect at doing just that. They come as a single taco and while I must admit for the price they were on the skimpy side the ingredients were very fresh and high quality. Honestly if they'd skip the pickled veggies and just beef up the actual taco a bit instead I'd much prefer that. The mahi mahi did not taste or smell fishy in the slightest. It was very clean and well prepared but a bit watery. When I picked up the hard taco a bunch of juices flowed out of the back. It could have been from the veggies though. No additional sauces or seasonings were necessary to add flavor. This taco stood very well on it's own. We just ate it as is, and as it was intended by the chef. My son was happy with his carnitas as well. When we return I definitely want to try some of their deserts. Tinker Taco Lab, you guys are cool. See ya next August. Oh and one last thing....I have to comment on the other reviews saying these people were rude. You can't be serious! May be you just don't know how to talk to people. I didn't have a single problem with their attitudes. They were very happy to serve us and I also witnessed their interactions with several other customers and they were just as friendly and accommodating. The lady working the counter went to bring us sauces and extra napkins without being asked in what seems to be a mostly self serve type of place and also gave us a menu to bring with us. She chatted with us while we waited and the chef was pretty much smiling and singing along to the music and whistling the entire time we were there. May be you guys experienced this place on an off day, everyone has their bad days. Give them a break! read more

You know that craving for tacos you get when you're on the other side of the country far, far away from anything Mexican and then you see non-Mexicans making tacos but you don't trust it because you've been through this before and it usually doesn't work out? Well, this didn't happen. At Tinker Taco Lab I can guarantee you will have an unexpected flavorful experience like no other and your taco craving will be satisfied beyond expectations. To start with they make their own corn tortillas which is usually something brought in from another vendor. All plates are handcrafted by creator-chef and owner so you can expect a labor love with each menu item. Some of the tacos are filled with ingredients that most taquerias don't necessarily use. The El Vegetal Taco is a vegetarian taco filled with lightly seasoned battered green pepper and topped with goat cheese. The pepper had a little bite to it but I don't think it's anything anyone can't handle. I am not a fan of goat cheese but it was paired so nicely with the pepper that it had to be there--and I loved it! I also got the Tinga de Pollo (Chicken Taco), a chorizo stewed filling topped with fresh cheese (queso fresco) and avocado which disappeared quickly! Tacos are served with fresh lime and yummy marinated vegetables such as carrot, radish and cabbage and homemade red and green hot sauces are available. I was really bummed that they were out of the Yam Tamale. I was raised on tamales and I have never heard of one with yams. So know because everything is super fresh they do run out of things. For beverages they do have Jarritos Mexican sodas along with other bottled beverages in the glass fridge. Desserts are homemade baked goods displayed on the counter at the bar. The place fills up quickly. It's small with only bar seating and limited seating outside. They are open for lunch and dinner but closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. read more

Food gets good marks for quality. The carnitas/pork belly is tasty, same for the pickled veg that comes with the order. Why I would think twice about returning: the service is very rude. Bad vibes! If you're into gloomy service & zero smiles, give this place a shot. The chef & the other employee were so morose! She seemed like a zombie when she brought out our food. I asked the chef the same question twice, & he finally addressed me in a standoffish fashion. The portions are very small. You'll spend $5+ for a tiny taco. Two tacos later, you'll still be hungry. Also, they close between lunch & dinner, & they don't post a sign saying so. Instead, they have to verbally bum out potential customers in person, one at a time, if they happen upon them. Really cute taqueria, you can smell the fresh tortillas being made daily from the street. Very small and homey interior but the menu is really nice. I ordered a chicken taco, I think I remember it was the tinga de pollo. Avocado with chipotle chicken, with cilantro, lime, crema Fresca. The wait for the food was very quick and the prices are cheap for a filling meal. The taco was very flavourful and the chicken and the avocado paired together nicely. The chicken was seasoned really well and every bite was delicious. Will definitely be back to try more of the tacos. read more

We showed up very cheerful, and he was incredibly short and kept condescing-ly calling me "m'am" - to say the least, this is the worst place you can go in Woodstock. If you want cheerful staff, they don't exist here! Will never return, and can't wait to find better dining options. This is a 3.5 star rating, rounded up. I'm happy to have found this place. We were in Woodstock killing some time before dinner, but were hungry, so we wanted something small and quick. The space is modest, set back from the road in a small cluster of other businesses (which I learned are all owned by the Taco people), with a few picnic tables outside. The inside only has a handful of bar stools, not sure if they'll offer something else when the weather gets colder or what, but for now, it's just an open floor and the food prep area. As others have stated, the tacos are very good and made fresh to order. We tried three different ones (short rib, carnitas and fish), as well as a tamale. That, along with a small bottled drink came to nearly $30. Now, I live in NYC and am no stranger to inflated pricing, but this surprised me. All the tacos, which come individually, are $5 and up each. Be prepared for that. Compounding this issue is the fact that they're not particularly big. This was definitely a buzz kill, but thankfully we weren't ravenous, so things didn't get out of control. Overall, the food was delicious and I would return, but would certainly appreciate more modest prices. Still, I'll gladly support a husband and wife team running a small business together if I can. Nice tucked-in casual taco place in the quaint Woodstock town. Their prices were not cheap for one taco, but definitely speak to the quality. Our Chicken Tinga & Mahi Mahi tacos were amongst the best we've had on the east coast. Tacos and all the ingredients are made fresh and in-house, they also serve strawberry lemonade and Harney & Sons Iced Tea. Being a future business owner and resident of Woodstock, my partner and I visit Woodstock on a monthly basis - this time with friends who are newbies! I hate tacos that lack authenticity of culture, anyone can make a taco. The question is, can it be great? For Tinker TacoLab, the answer is yes. Yes, yes, and yes. If you're not a chef like myself, you won't notice the great mixture of French techniques that goes into creating this tacos. The owner and chef who is very noticeable in the place has a great concept going on here. And it's absolutely delicious. Not that much chairs and expect to grab a seat if you're with a few people. The tacos are pricey compared to your "normal" standard tacos. However, take into account that they are in fact using the BEST products they can use, and it resonates in the food. One thing: just speed it up a bit! I don't mind waiting on great food but two tacos took 15 minutes to get. If it was faster I would've gave 5 stars. Wow! This place is incredible. I haven't visited Woodstock in years and I feel so lucky to have stumbled upon this delightful, delicious and inventive food experience. The first thing I felt was a strong sense of community. You can tell the locals love this place--It seemed like half the neighborhood was there, having vibrant, fun conversations at the outdoor tables enjoying the summer sun. And then there was the food - Oh the Food! I had to stop myself from falling into a Mexican coma with my fifth Tinga de Pollo taco. The house-made pickled vegetables that come with each taco are the BOMB! They paired perfectly with everything. The meats were cooked to perfection with surprising spices that left my palette wanting more. The staff was busy, but they served my food quickly and with a smile. I noticed that everyone working there was young and attractive, which always helps ;) I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

Watch out for making plans at this place. It says it's open until 8PM, but if a little rain starts they will shut the door in your face.

Wish I didn't waist my time and money. Do yourself a favor, and don't waist yours. I spent more time figuring out how to order than eating. There is one tiny menu taped to the door, which only one person can view at a time. So you have to wait on line just to look at the menu. Once you do that you have to get back on a line to order, where one person is allowed in at a time. While ordering I was told I had to go to a separate bar to order drinks. I ended up spending $60 on three sad looking and mediocre tasting tacos, one beer, and two barley-boozy margaritas. We were told there was no bathroom and had to go to the police station to use a bathroom. To top it off, there were aggressive bees everywhere that wanted us out as much as we wanted to leave. They should tinker around with how they run their business. No photo because what we were served did not deserve one. read more
