    Silver dollar Omelet and toast
    Johnny S.

Driving in between Roswell and Ruidoso we stopped at the Silver Dollar, walking in we were quite surprised at the elegant western setting. The building is drenched in intriguing history that the staff was happy to share. Very cool atmosphere. Tables were clothed and set in a traditional way, with fine glasses and plates and silverware. We stopped in for Sunday breakfast, and while there wasn't a large menu of choices, the choices available were traditional New Mexican breakfast choices. I chose the Silver dollar Omelette, which had three eggs, Steak, and green chili and cheese. It also came with Ranch style potatoes. The potatoes were perfectly fried to a crispy golden bite sized spud, just how I like them. The Omlette was great, the steak came from the ranch of the business owner, so it's local beef. That's big for me. The green chili was roasted and included in mixed with the cheese and other misc. peppers. I would have preferred it served smothered in a green chili sauce, or salsa, but that's just a personal preference that I enjoy with typical New Mexican breakfasts. I had some samples of the biscuits and gravy plate, and pancakes. It's easy to see that their entire menu is made with fresh ingredients and doesn't rely on preservatives like you may expect for a restaurant so far from a major town. Prices are very fair for breakfast and the quality of food far surpasses the point of justification, Which is so rare in the post Covid environment.

MAKE THE STOP! Nestled between two bigger cities in New Mexico, it is easy to fly right by Tinnie Silver Dollar. But, you should eat here! We stopped by on our way to Roswell, NM. Quite a spacey, historic location with amazing food. The chicken bites with white gravy were phenomenal along with delicious and flavorful chicken fried steak, burgers, and fettuccine alfredo. You will not be disappointed!

I stopped there last October and was very impressed. I intend to overnight there in early July. I understand that management and staff have all changed. Mu question is, has anyone experienced the restaurant and bar recently to be able to comment?

Came back a month later and things we had spoken about were put into action, great improvement to the pancake syrup, perfectly packed eggs for the benny , and something as simple as Cholula for the eggs. Long story short, it took 2 hours for the order of 1 adult and 2 kids meals to be completed. While I waited for an additional 90 minutes for the order, I sat at the bar area (that's where pick up orders are instructed to go), I wasn't even offered water while I waited. Moreover, I heard complaining loudly about repeat customers coming to into the restaurant and arguing which staff member would have to go attend to said patrons who happened to walk in while I was there. The meal once received was ok - nothing to write home about. Best part of the meal was the free dessert the restaurant threw in to make up for the 2 hour wait.

Leaving work after a long day, I knew I wanted steak. I'm not from Roswell, so I had to rely on…read moreYelp and Google to tell me what was available. Now the other alternative was Texas Roadhouse. Don't get me wrong, I'm regionally from where Texas Roadhouse was founded and it's huge, especially where I'm from. But part of my philosophy when traveling is to try someplace new, traditionally NOT a chain. So I gave this a shot. Cattle Baron reminds me of those old school steakhouses in the 90s that served steaks and an AYCE salad bar. Except it's much nicer ambiance-wise with a broader menu. I ordered the largest ribeye steak they had with a loaded baked potato, unlimited salad bar, a Coca-Cola, and a brownie for dessert. The total for ALL that ended up being $48.35. That's really cheap considering I had to be rolled out on a stretcher (joking). The most expensive item was the steak, in the $30-range but an unlimited salad bar for $4.95 and dessert for $6.95 can't be beat. The salad bar had everything you'd want in a salad bar with fresh veggies and toppings along with two soups, premade salads, and a sampling of sweet items like jello and fruit. I got 2 plates from the bar and two small bowls of soup. The steak and potato soup was good but the chicken soup was a bit salty for my taste. My steak and loaded potato was good and hit the spot. The potato was kind of dry, assuming it was a potato, already cooked hours ago and they just pulled it out to serve to me. After smothering it in butter and sour cream, the dryness disappeared. The steak was cooked medium rare, so no issues there but there was very little seasoning. I added salt and pepper to it, which made it a lot better. I wish it had a little bit more searing/char to it. I ended the meal with a brownie and ice cream, with caramel drizzle. The brownie was fairly large and warm, with a nice scoop of ice cream and ample ribbons of caramel sauce. It was really delicious and not too overly sweet! It definitely put me over the food coma edge. Service was good, but slow. My waitress explained to me that it was slow because a table of 39 people showed up, so she apologized. It didn't bother me though because I was so tired from working nearly 12 hours that day. I'm glad I supported local and my meal was definitely worth the price.

Many options on the salad bar and everything was fresh and stocked full. Everyone enjoyed their meal and a couple left with to go boxes. One thing that I would change was the volume of the live music. Good song choices and singing but it was so loud we could not comfortably talk to each other during the meal. But lo and behold, k-bobs has a salad wagon. It is every bit what you want and a few extras, roasted green chilies and a great green chile corn chowder. I opted for the rellenos with steak strips, they were not traditional rellenos but still great the meat was satisfying and the chile spicey. They were on rice pilaf, it worked and thier beans are flavorful and satisfying. They have home made rolls i think are better than rodehouse!! All in all it was a win, great iced tea friendly service and a satisfying meal. I will gladly come back!!
