We came in for brunch about a month ago and it was good, after our meal the GM Chon came out and asked about our meal. Had a great conversation and after left from a great experience. Came back a month later and things we had spoken about were put into action, great improvement to the pancake syrup, perfectly packed eggs for the benny , and something as simple as Cholula for the eggs. Nice to see customer thoughts taken seriously. Have had Jessica as our server both times and she was friendly and attentive, made for wonderful experiences. I know the Texas Club isn't the fastest place to eat in town, but for a relaxed brunch can't find a place much better. read more

Placed an order to go via DoorDash. Estimated wait time of 30 min to receive my order but arrived and was told it would be 'much longer'. Long story short, it took 2 hours for the order of 1 adult and 2 kids meals to be completed. While I waited for an additional 90 minutes for the order, I sat at the bar area (that's where pick up orders are instructed to go), I wasn't even offered water while I waited. Moreover, I heard complaining loudly about repeat customers coming to into the restaurant and arguing which staff member would have to go attend to said patrons who happened to walk in while I was there. A long-established local restaurant with good food and good atmosphere. Our waiter Miguel did a great job of making us feel welcome, and our steaks were cooked well and tastefully seasoned. The standout side dish for me was the sauteed mushrooms, with plenty of minced garlic in a white wine sauce. Many of the staff were young and recently trained, but all were working hard. In a town like Ruidoso, labor is very tight, costs are high, and the customers often come in large, hard-to-handle parties, all packed into high-season rush hour. So five stars in Ruidoso doesn't mean "perfect", it means "as good as possible, given the constraints they have to work with". Folks are all doing their best, so I try to do my part by planning ahead, making reservations, and bringing my best self. read more

Been coming here since I was a teenager, 30 years and it has become a wreck. Broke my heart, what a history this place has, our absolute favorite restaurant in Ruidoso! From the burnt dinner rolls to the terribly over cooked filet, not to mention waiting 30 minutes (after having drinks and a salad) for the first overcooked steak. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation. We were seated quickly and given menus. A server brought us "hot" bread and butter. The bread was not hot and had a stale crust. Our server came to the table 5 minutes later with menus. 5 minutes later she took our drink order. 10 minutes after that we placed our appetizer order. Our first round of drinks came 10 minutes later. 14 minutes later our appetizer arrived. We ordered 10 minutes later. I could continue but let's just say our food arrived 1 hour later. I had to go to the bar and order drinks myself. 3 of the 4 orders were eatable, mine was over cooked and ineatable. The manager never came out of the kitchen even though we ask to speak with him. I had come here several times. There is a shrimp dish they have that my husband and I really like, to the point we experimented and figured out how to make it ourselves. Glad we did, because we won't be going back. Today, we were seated in the bar area. We had never been in that part of the restaurant before. Very dissatisfied with the whole experience. We walked in with a larger party. There was an older lady that greeted us in the reception desk (short, white hair) who seemed to be very upset that we did not make a reservation and even said she was going to see if she could accommodate us. This should have been red flag 1. No welcome or a smile, nothing. Food is definitely overpriced for the quality to be honest. There was nothing special and we all got several meals. Also, we noticed many of the people dining were portraying racism which was shocking to see, including the receptionist. I went last night I got a ribeye steak bone in. I have never had a $50 ribeye with no fat in it. It looked like a New York steak not a ribeye. I asked the waitress and she said they didn't have New York steaks bone in. So I concluded it must be the a special type of ribeye that is not tender or have fat. It sucked I am very disappointed. Good thing we arrived five minutes after opening because the parking lot was filling up fast! "You hit the jackpot" were her exact words as we had just watched a lady ahead of us be told that her party of 5 could not be seated because she had not made reservations. We, also, had not made reservations, so we felt really fortunate when she said she happened to have a table for two. For those interested in history: This place was built in the 60's as a private residence, but in the early 70's was purchased by Dale Robertson (tv actor, Ben Calhoun in "Iron Horse", '66-'68). He bought it for a place for his Texas friends to hangout when they came to Ruidoso for horse racing. He christened it "The Texas Club" and charged $1.00 to become a member. After several changes of ownership and officially becoming a steak house, it's now considered one of Ruidoso's premier eating establishments. We ordered the Shrimp cocktail for a starter - 5 Jumbo Shrimp with cocktail sauce ($13.). They were indeed huge and fresh. The cocktail sauce was excellent, but beware it has quite a bite to it! I'd suggest a small sample first so as not to overwhelm your olfactory system, ha! (Seriously!) For my entree I ordered their "Wrangler's Ribeye", a 16oz aged, marbled cut of beef, cooked medium ($37.). I chose sweet potato fries and their green chile cream corn as my sides. The steak was cooked perfectly but I found their pepper seasoning a little overwhelming. The sweet potato fries were delicious and the green chile cream corn was nothing short of amazing! You must get this (thank me later) :). Our server was polite, courteous, and friendly. There's live music on Fridays and Saturdays. We had a great meal and wonderful experience. This is a really nice restaurant in Ruidoso that requires reservations. I came here for my birthday dinner on a Friday night, and there was live music. We had the Texas toothpicks for an appetizer, which was a huge plate of deep-fried jalapeños with cheese. We had the St. Patrick's Day special cocktail, which was the green midori melon cocktail. I had the shrimp celina pasta, and it was tasty and a good level of spiciness. I had it with a caesar salad. They brought me the Philo's favorite fudge cake for a free birthday dessert. This restaurant has potential in the right hands. Really hope to see if they can some how get into new ownership and turn this around. We got a reservation for 9 arrived at 7:15 were sat immediately. Water came quickly however other beverages took 15-20 minutes. We placed our food order around 7:45. Salads did not arrive until 8:15, our food did not come out until 9:05pm. The restaurant closes at 8:30pm. So many tables around us were getting their food late. If you have new cooks forewarn people so they don't waste their time waiting and can go somewhere else. Went there hungry wanting a good steak after a full day of snowboarding. Showed up to the restaurant and they refused to seat me since I didn't have a reservation and was a single diner. We didn't get our drinks for 45 minutes after reminding them twice. Then we ordered appetizers of just chips and didn't get those for over an hour and a half. Then once we were there for almost three hours we asked the manager and she said they barely rung our food up and it would be another 30-45 minutes. Where do I start? First off, we had our reservation for 7:15. We weren't seated until 7:45. We ordered a coke and it took 30 minutes to bring out. We also ordered chips which took 30 minutes to come out. Once we had been waiting for our food for 1 hour we addressed the issue to the manager and she told us 30 minutes more would be the wait time, and said they just put our ticket in an hour after waiting. As we were waiting another table started arguing with us. The manager asked us to leave because she heard we were going to leave a negative review for the wait time. We dined at Texas Club on April 6th, with a party of 13. We had a variety of menu items and have to say, every steak was grilled to perfection, pasta was flavorful, and in a light garlic butter sauce which was so tasty. This used to be one of our favorites. It's really gone downhill. The service was decent, but the food was awful. It was too much trouble to check what kinds of Chardonnay they had (La Crema Sonoma Coast or Monterey -the bad one!) Got rolls - sorta warm - reordered with our food - so they'd be hot - she brought extra cold/hard ones! My hamburger steak ordered medium was well done - my wife's scallops were under cooked wrapped in raw bacon. They remade the scallops -overcooked tough & inedible. I've always enjoyed going to the Texas club. Even though I live in El Paso I look forward to having a steak there they do a magnificent job with your steaks and the atmosphere is fantastic truly probably the best steakhouse in Ruidoso hands-down. The only frustrating thing that will take a star away from my review is the fact if you live in El Paso no one seems to answer the phone and you get that message you've heard 1000 times the person you were trying to contact has a mail box that has not been set up how do you do that with a restaurant that needs people to make reservations?? read more

This place is huge! Texas sized right. It's a steak joint and does a nice job at it. The price is reasonable for what they offer. We got the chicken fried steak and the Texas tenders. The steak filled the platter. It had to be at least a 12 ouncer. The gravy was spot on as well as the mashed potatoes. The Texas tenders were four split chicken breast pieces with potatoes and gravy. Both huge portions for a very reasonable price. The service was impeccable. read more

If you don't make a reservation here you will be stacked into the bar every seat full and eat at a bench while the whole time you see no less than 5 open tables the whole time your eating ( that just on the bar side ) with the smell of sewage coming out of the bar . Without a shadow of a doubt the absolute and utterly worst restaurant I have ever had the displeasure of going to. This restaurant if, you can even call it that, is nothing like the photos that are shown on the internet. It was a pig-sty inside, and the ambiance is terrible, it was as loud as a lunch hall full of third graders. Unfortunately, that's just touching the tip of the iceberg. The part where this restaurant really falls short, and I mean falls shorter than a Burger King, is their service. It's honestly offensive that service could be that bad. Our waitress, whom it seemed like it was her first day on the job could barely get our order together. Not only that, we had to ask multiple times for our appetizers and drinks to be brought out which took over a half hour to come out. This, all happened while one of the simplest dishes to make in culinary history, a Caesar salad, took 45 minutes. Which was supposed to be one of the complementary dishes of our main course. Which might I add, I was unable to get to enjoy, because of how excruciatingly long it took for them to even get our order to the kitchen. Furthermore, once we complained to the trashy unapologetic manager, all she could muster up was a discount and that our food might come out in the next half our which to put into perspective, it was already 9:15 at night, and we had been there since 7:15, which isn't even the time we were able to get seated because this restaurant is thoroughly in love with delays so we had to wait an extra 30 minutes to actually get seated after having a reservation. Due to this god awful service my party and I left early, happily putting this ratchet establishment behind us for good.
