A long-established local restaurant with good food and good atmosphere. Our waiter Miguel did a great job of making us feel welcome, and our steaks were cooked well and tastefully seasoned. The standout side dish for me was the sauteed mushrooms, with plenty of minced garlic in a white wine sauce. Many of the staff were young and recently trained, but all were working hard. In a town like Ruidoso, labor is very tight, costs are high, and the customers often come in large, hard-to-handle parties, all packed into high-season rush hour. So five stars in Ruidoso doesn't mean "perfect", it means "as good as possible, given the constraints they have to work with". Folks are all doing their best, so I try to do my part by planning ahead, making reservations, and bringing my best self.

OVERALL Texas Club was great RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 4.5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING The lack of parking and terrible parkers at 7:30PM on Saturday night. LOCATION/AMBIANCE Getting to this place feels like you're driving to a friend's house as it's in the middle of what seemed like a semi-rural neighborhood. The tall pines and sunset-cooled air was a treat. My girls loved all the Western memorabilia, Texas flags, & rustic light fixtures. The booth we sat in was surprisingly comfortable. It was a bit warm inside. THE GRUB + Complimentary bread rolls. My daughters loved them. + Smokey & the Bandit, a whiskey cocktail ($10) + Cocktail shrimp appetizer ($15) + House salad with fresh ground pepper from a battery-operated grinder... (included with steak dinner) + Medium rare Cattleman's ribeye steak ($40) + Jack Daniels Caramel Sundae ($8) LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB + Kid's Alfredo pasta ($6) + Kid's shrimp plate ($9) + Dr. Pepper ($3) + Sprite ($3) SERVICE A little slow to get to us at first, but after that no problems. Our waitress Kim was friendly & efficient. MY FAVORITE PART... My ribeye. It was not over-seasoned. Cooked medium rare as I requested. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The parking lot. (See above.) TIP Make reservations through the OpenTable app.

Dinner for eight, The steaks we ordered were cooked evenly and were seasoned very well the crust and taste of flame was there

Dinner for eight! The service was good considering we had a reservation was as expected. All our steaks from the bone in ribeye down to the kids steak were excellent! The crust and seasoning on the steaks were well done, great cook and a chefs kiss! The ambience and views were nice, very clean restaurant.

Good thing we arrived five minutes after opening because the parking lot was filling up fast! "You hit the jackpot" were her exact words as we had just watched a lady ahead of us be told that her party of 5 could not be seated because she had not made reservations. We, also, had not made reservations, so we felt really fortunate when she said she happened to have a table for two. For those interested in history: This place was built in the 60's as a private residence, but in the early 70's was purchased by Dale Robertson (tv actor, Ben Calhoun in "Iron Horse", '66-'68). He bought it for a place for his Texas friends to hangout when they came to Ruidoso for horse racing. He christened it "The Texas Club" and charged $1.00 to become a member. After several changes of ownership and officially becoming a steak house, it's now considered one of Ruidoso's premier eating establishments. We ordered the Shrimp cocktail for a starter - 5 Jumbo Shrimp with cocktail sauce ($13.). They were indeed huge and fresh. The cocktail sauce was excellent, but beware it has quite a bite to it! I'd suggest a small sample first so as not to overwhelm your olfactory system, ha! (Seriously!) For my entree I ordered their "Wrangler's Ribeye", a 16oz aged, marbled cut of beef, cooked medium ($37.). I chose sweet potato fries and their green chile cream corn as my sides. The steak was cooked perfectly but I found their pepper seasoning a little overwhelming. The sweet potato fries were delicious and the green chile cream corn was nothing short of amazing! You must get this (thank me later) :). Our server was polite, courteous, and friendly. There's live music on Fridays and Saturdays. We had a great meal and wonderful experience. I'd highly recommend you check them out when visiting Ruidoso - and don't forget to make reservations! Hours are: Monday: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday - Wednesday: Closed Thursday: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday - Saturday: 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm Sunday: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm https://www.texasclubruidoso.com

To a person we were thrilled with our meals. Big portions and big flavors. The chicken fried chicken was plate size with a side of green chile battered and deep fried, like a chile relleno sans cheese. Delicious! Our server kept up with the calamity that was our table and I couldn't believe she did it with such grace. Great job. I added a salad bar trip to the CfriedC and it included dessert. Many options on the salad bar and everything was fresh and stocked full. Everyone enjoyed their meal and a couple left with to go boxes. One thing that I would change was the volume of the live music. Good song choices and singing but it was so loud we could not comfortably talk to each other during the meal. We'd all go back and may this trip. Enjoy!

But lo and behold, k-bobs has a salad wagon. It is every bit what you want and a few extras, roasted green chilies and a great green chile corn chowder. I opted for the rellenos with steak strips, they were not traditional rellenos but still great the meat was satisfying and the chile spicey. They were on rice pilaf, it worked and thier beans are flavorful and satisfying. They have home made rolls i think are better than rodehouse!! All in all it was a win, great iced tea friendly service and a satisfying meal. I will gladly come back!!

They were out of the wine my friend requested and did not have cranberry juice for a cran/soda for me. Not off to a good start. The bread was mediocre at best. And the server didn't offer to do olive oil/red wine mix for us. I was craving something fresh so I ordered a Caprese salad to start. There was nothing great about it. The mozzarella was thick and dense. I also ordered a garden salad and lasagna. The garden salad smelled and tasted like dirt - like it had not been washed - that got pushed to the side and uneaten. The lasagna - ugggggg - how do you screw up lasagna???? There were gobs of ricotta cheese on top of the dish - literally piles of cheese- and not in a good way. I scraped most of it off and set it aside. The dish itself was bland and greasy. Honestly, Stouffers makes better lasagna - truth. We were offered dessert but passed. Ben and Jerry's was a safer bet. Overall I'd rate this meal a 2 out of 10 - they had Diet Coke so that was a win.

I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was delicious. My daughters also ordered burgers and really enjoyed theirs. My son ordered fish (cod) and chips and thought it was decent. Hubby ordered an all meat scramble and enjoyed it though he didn't anticipate the sausage to be ground. A texture thing. My younger kiddos split a chicken strip plate and it was large enough. The waitress brought out an extra plate and that was appreciated. Me and my kiddos ordered juice and it was room temperature. Is that normal? Eh, I don't know. But we asked for a cup of ice on the side and they graciously brought it out to cool our beverages. You pay at the counter after the waiter brings you your receipt. Upon delivery of our receipt, the waitress informed us that the gratuity was not included. I found it a little tacky and like she was ensuring her tip. I always tip (even for poor service), so that put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. It was a nice hearty meal before our hike. I would eat here again and probably order the burger without juice lol. There seems to be a consistent line out the door, so plan to wait some. They close at 2 pm, as they're only open for breakfast and lunch, so plan accordingly.
