Just had Mother's Day Dinner here and it was terrible. Neither steak was cooked to order. Manager brought out the re-cook, no apologies and no sides. Apparently if you ask them to cook your order the way you order it you lose the sides. Didnt remove the used plates and the ice and water tastes like dirt. Ordered the grilled sourdough jack which is our go to back home in El Paso. Not good here though. They brought it out on white bread, not grilled and a few fries that looked like they had been sitting under a heating lamp. The whole restaurant looks dated. Worst Prime Rib I have ever "tried" to eat. It was so rubbery the knife couldn't cut it. Once I did get a bite to eat, I had to chew and chew and had to spit some out. When I ask our server about it, he said "Yes, sometimes they're like that." They offered to replace it with something else and they brought out the world's thinnest NY Strip. This thing had no chance of being medium rare or medium. We were a group of 10 friends traveling through Ruidoso. We made reservations ahead of time and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Great service for a busy Saturday night! The place was neat, the staff friendly, the salad bar stuffed. Oh, that salad bar is phenomenal. Such variety! I had that night's feature, manhattan cut 10 oz with baked potato, loaded no bacon. Recently visited this restaurant while on a trip to the area. I ordered the chicken-fried steak and give it 5-stars. Mashers were on point and service was fantastic. 3 of our group of 10 ordered the sirloin and rate it b+. Let's be honest, the area has a very limited amount of great restaurants. My wife and I and a friend stopped in for a drink and have an appetizer about 4:00. My wife is the youngest of the three of us at 77. I understand not wanting to serve underage people, but we are all 50 years above that. I had all three of our IDs on my phone, however my wife's DL had expired. They would not serve my wife, unless we went to the car and got her purse with the current DL. I am a disabled Vietnam veteran, but was forced to go get the DL. I am trying to logically understand WHY?? What moran decided this?? You have customers in their 80's and 90's wanting a beer at 4 in the afternoon and you force your wait staff and customers to go thru this harassment to prove they are old enough to drink, Why?? Cattle Baron's in Roswell does not treat customers in this manner, So Ruidoso has a local power person?? You win, we loose. The mushrooms tasted bland and seemed to be sautéed with vegetable oils instead of butter with no seasoning. Steak fries were a quartered potato, tasted bland with minimal salt. Service was ok, fast drink refills but slow with food (waited for 20-25 minutes for appetizers and food). Another person in my party got slightly uncooked chicken and had to send it back. My son and I went here for Mothers Day lunch and the atmosphere was very nice. We were greeted immediately and luckily got seated right away. The salad bar was fresh and a huge variety of vegetables, pastas, fruit to choose from. The steak (Ribeye) I ordered was just okay I mean it wasn't bad but not great either. It was pretty dry and not a lot of flavor. My son did enjoy the ribs he ordered. The waiter was great. I definitely would give this place an another try and maybe order something different. Food tasted good- but afterward my boyfriend and I felt like we were drugged. We were confused and didn't feel well at all. I was at the salad bar and I overheard a waitress make a derogatory comment "take that white girl" I looked up at her and she didn't seem to mind that I overheard her talking to the cook. She wasn't our waitress, but the experience went south after that. I felt like I had been given a sleeping pill and we barely made it back to the cabin before we both got sick and passed out. As my husband tried to explain that we called, the waitress rudely cut him off while trying to tell her we talked to somebody. Just classless! I have been 2 times since they reopened. We were excited when they finally opened since the store in Roswell is pretty good. This place is an absolute disaster. The food is less than mediocre, and the service is even worse. Sat for 15+ minutes with no drinks. Not even water. The waitresses were both rude and seemed as if they didn't want to be there. I for one will never go back and hope my friends do t experience the same thing. Amazing since their other stores including Farleys has exceptional service. Even if the food is sometimes not perfect. We came to the location- family of 5 to eat, was a little different then what I thought, the restaurant looked like it was once a great restaurant. 10 min wait was not bad but it was early, we decided on the special that was listed on the sunset special menu 9.99 Mon - Thurs starting at 3 - it was 3:10 so we were happy. Waiter came and said they are not offering it today, so why have it on the menu? The only special priced menu is not offered. Oh but he had a solution for us - we offer the dinner menu prices for 19.00 for the same thing we should be getting for 9.99. Food came and the kids said the chicken strips were good. The Mac and cheese was okay for the kids and well priced. However the sirloin I ordered was not the best I have ever had. Had like a fake smoke taste to it. My wife had the same thing and ordered it well done and it came med rare.
