Seriously this place is amazing! I would go every day if I could. Starters, dinner and dessert were beyond amazing! Food: we had the meat and cheese board for an appetizer. Mains: watercolor, shrimp and risotto, and the burger. Dessert: donuts and milk and cookies. Mains: meat and cheese plate was incredible!! The cheeses were fresh, and the Jam it was served with just melted in your mouth. shrimp and risotto was my personal favorite! It was so flavorful and the shrimp were grilled to perfection. The risotto had a buttery/lemon flavor! watercolor was also very very good. This is probably the most popular item on the menu but it more rich than the shrimp and risotto. I would get both of these again! burger was fantastic! It was served with 2 patties, and the fries were super fresh!! Desserts: Donuts were amazing!! Served with chocolate sauce! They were cinnamon sugar flavor! Milk and cookies! Served with 3 types of ice cram that was homemade! Chocolate brownie, blueberry, and strawberry! Delicious!! The ambiance is so great here as well! The shady garden was gorgeous, the social distancing enforced comfortably - clear guidelines to keep things as low contact as possible were being rigorously followed by staff which made for a relaxed-as-possible Covid eating experience! Having not eaten out in a while we decided we needed a brunch starter... and the burrata with pesto did not disappoint! Nor did the frozen green juice. The 'mother's brunch was a bit beige. Although the constituent parts were great - good biscuit, grits + sausage - it was missing a bit of freshness / colour on the plate / diversity of flavour. Our meals again were really wonderful. My salad was perfect, fish so yummy, our guests steak was perfect and looked beautiful. The table waitstaff was very pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable, and patient - just perfect. However, it is tiring to deal with the EXTREMELY rude welcome received at the door. It is now 3 times and I suspect the RUDE greeting we get will finally keep us from returning to Tiny Boxwoods. It is a shame as it is one of the most beautiful restaurants in Austin and the food and table staff is just wonderful. I'm not certain what the problem is, but it is bad. It's also worth noting that friends of ours arrived at the same time as us. We had a reservation, and were not treated nicely, as if we were some outcasts. Our friends did not have a reservation, their welcome was unbelievably horrible. I am surprised they stood there at all. It continued to be strange in that I saw they did not stay, I'm not certain why but from what I overheard (with a "humph and a well of course we are", while looking down at those poor fools for even attempting to dine with them, especially with those two children - simply horrid!), it seemed as if Tiny Boxwoods was booked for the evening. Well after an hour during our meal, I noticed that about 1/2 of the tables were open. What a shame and a loss that I suspect will soon make its rounds and be communicated to many others in Austin. Picture-perfect, light and airy space that screams ladies-who-lunch. Tasty pastries (morning bun was delish!), but otherwise standard brunch fare that is a tad overpriced. Our service was awkward with a waitress who was sweet, but nervous and disappeared for the latter portion of our meal. With so many great breakfast spots around town, I may not make a bee line right back for another meal. Meg T and I had planned a Sunday virtual catch up and were lamenting that pre-COVID, we would have done that catch up in person at a new restaurant. So, I decided to find a place that had been on our list that we could do takeout from and still have our virtual catch up. Tiny Boxwoods ended up being our selection - partially because I was craving something on the menu and partially because I had been to Tiny's No. 5 in Houston and wanted to try the concept here. The takeout ordering process was pretty straightforward online - just seemed like everything on the menu wasn't available for online ordering (i.e. the yogurt parfait). Once you order, you get a text to confirm your order and they give you a 30-minute notice for when they expect your food to be ready. I ordered the grilled cheese and pesto with sweet potato fries. It was VERY good (and more than I could eat in one sitting!) - it certainly would have been better eating there without the commute time back home, but I do appreciate that they have a system in place and keep things contactless. read more

I visited Tiny Boxwoods for brunch and pastries. - Ambiance: Completely adorable. There was lots of natural light, which paired well with the white accents throughout the restaurant. Definitely an Instagram worthy place. - Service: It was Sunday brunch and the restaurant was packed, but our server was attentive and our food came quickly. - Food: We shared the acai bowl to start. I'm picky about my acai bowls, but this was perfect. Great consistency, not too sweet, and yummy fresh fruit on top. I had the mother's breakfast for my main. I was able to sub the biscuit for one of their famous brioche buns for an upcharge, which was worth it. I thought the breakfast was good, but the surprise was the jalapeno cheese grits. I am normally not a huge grits person, but these were incredible and the highlight of my meal. Lastly, no trip to Tiny's is complete without their delicious chocolate chip cookies. - Value: The reason Tiny's gets four stars is the value. I think some of the menu is a bit overpriced, but you can go a more reasonably priced route (like the acai bowl). Tiny Boxwoods Austin this was the worst experience I have ever had while trying to dine. After 15-20 minutes sitting not a single FOH touched the table, filled water or even greeted us. While I sat waiting a customer squeezed her lime all over me looked at me then proceeded to laugh??? I guess we didn't meet your social standards or target demographic of over served entitled white folks. POSITIVES) This is a welcome addition to the Austin food scene, it's beautiful and the perfect place for a lunch date with friends. I've been to both locations in Houston and they are wonderful. The best part of this new location is the ambience and the gorgeous lawn like patio. The guy working at the front who took our order was great, very kind and efficient. He also asked how we enjoyed our lunch as we where leaving, he had great customer service and one of the few reasons I will give this location a second chance. NEGATIVES) Our waiter didn't check on us at all, he brought our food and that was it. We had to flag him down to bring us our warmed chocolate chip cookie. It was not a busy time, there where only a few people at tables inside and a handful outside. I noticed the guests next to our table didn't get checked on either till they where done with their meal. (Considering the hefty tip this is frustrating, since you have to tip at the time you order) I'm hoping this happened because the wait staff was new and they seemed to be waiting on tables both inside and out. However that's a managerial issue, it looked like there was a manager on duty, he said bye to us as we left but never checked on us to see how we where enjoying ourselves. At most nice restaurants the manager checks on the table, and the waiter certainly checks on you 1-3times. Especially when the restaurant is not not busy. The food wasn't great, it was merely ok. Certainly not what I expected after eating at the Houston locations. Bottom line, I will go back and give this location a second chance but I certainly won't rush back. read more

I dined here with some friends for breakfast on a Saturday. Several of them had been there before. It wasn't crowded at all and it took forever to get our drink order and then our actual beverages. Most of us got coffee of some sort. I overheard a server tell a table they were training the barista. Probably not something you do on a Saturday morning? My flat white wasn't very hot. The food was good. I ordered Mother's Breakfast with bacon. It was a bit pricey for eggs, bacon, grits and a biscuit ($16) and it seemed to take longer than normal for the food to come out as well. Overall, my company made the experience okay. I would try this place again and hope that the service was better. read more

Awesome staff and great customer service. Beautiful atmosphere! The price is fair for the quality of food you get. The bartender was amazing. One of the tastiest mojitos I've had in a while. We started of with a cheese and meat board which was delicious especially with the jalapeño honey. We all ordered different things for the most part and nothing was disappointing. Definitely recommend the house migas and the lucky burger. My best friend can't do spicy at all so she substituted her grits for fruit, which I was sad about because jalapeño cheese grits sounded amazing. So I'll definitely come back to try those. After waiting patiently for a table, they sat us outside in the direct sun at noon in 95 degree August Texas weather - NOT under an umbrella or any form of shade or protection. Our silverware became so hot that we couldn't even pick it up! After 40 minutes of sitting in full sun, sweating and our faces and skin burning, the table immediately beside us UNDER an umbrella came open, so we moved over. Our server said no problem and that the move was good. But then a manager came over and told us we had to move BACK into the unprotected full sun because they wanted to sit someone else in the shade. I commented that our previous table was exactly the same size, so it seemed they could seat those people there. Especially since we had already had to sit in the sun for so long. She left grumpy, but we still thought it was fine. A few minutes later a second manager came and told us we had no choice and must move back over to the table the full sun. She stated it was because people were on the waiting list. Humm, but we had waited TOO and obviously were there FIRST because we had been seated for 40 minutes. I told her that makes no sense. I repeated that the other table was exactly the same size for whomever was waiting, and that we had arrived first. She rudely stated that if we wanted a different table we would have to start over on the waiting list. WTF??? We got up and left. We refused to be treated with such disrespect. Note also that we had been there 40 minutes and were STILL waiting for our food. They were also out of salmon and it was only noon. We had read reviews that the service was terrible but thought how bad can it be? Now we know. And it's not just slow food and bad service. The management and owners are clearly unconcerned about their patrons, even to the point of enjoying being disrespectful. There are too many great restaurants in Austin to ever give these people your money. Choose another place to dine. You and your friends will be glad you did not go here. read more

Cute lunch spot! If you love Chip and Joanna, you'll be a happy camper here because holy shiplap! You wait in line to order, then you are seated. The sweet potato waffle fries are everything!! I only stopped here for pastries in the morning, so it's hard for me to give a full review, but they were damn good pastries. There is no clear sign, look for the building blocked by hedges. It is a very cute open outdoor space (would recommend for a date or morning brunch, very sunny) the inside is additionally cute with a very modern Austin wood inspired new vibe. It feels a bit upscale and will make you feel underdressed if you just roll out of bed. All this said, the staff behind the desk were all super nice and friendly and inviting. They had a good selection of pastries that all looked incredible. I had two, the vanilla sugar bun was incredible; soft, great flavor, light and fluffy, vanilla cream inside, it was great. The chocolate chip cookie stole the show though, while it was a little small in size, everything else about it was perfect. Warm, gooey, soft, tons of butter and flavor, if you like a doughy cookie then look no further. Tiny Boxwoods is a charming little neighborhood restaurant that comes to Austin from Houston. The white clapboard house and charming patio lend themselves for many instagrammable moments. The service was very pleasant even if there were long pauses in seeing our waiter and the food was fairly good with a little bit of room to improve. Tiny's Summer Salad was fresh and crisp and a lovely lunch salad. The Salmon Provencal had a beautifully grilled piece of salmon, however the salmon was less than premium freshness and had just a bit of fishiness taste. Speaking of off tastes, tap water could do with a bit of filtration to remove the Austin-algae taste from the water. We finished our meal with coffee (excellent) and a warm chocolate chip cookie (divine). Mostly we were very happy with our experience and are eager to come back again. read more

Minor complaint on the Baker's Sandwich: there was too much prosciutto, which basically made it a salty, gummy block of meat that slid around on the buttery croissant. Everything else was great -- highly recommend the pastry board. Pricing: (4/5): As noted on the Yelp page, this is a $$$ restaurant. The pastry board, although delicious, was $15. This might be interpreted as $5 per pastry with butter and jam. All very high end and delicious. My Turkey Club with Berries was also $14. /shrug It's a special treat. Service (5/5): No wait at 8:30 AM Saturday brunch. Quick, clear service, and properly attentive. Very nice high chairs, that are clean for the kiddo. Water was always filled, and cleanup was timely. He also double-checked the menu items he didn't know well, just to be sure. Bathrooms (3/5): Women's restroom was a little cramped and smelly. The faucet was motion-activated and set for hot water only. A little tough to navigate while holding a small child, but I assume only a few of you reading this will mind. Tiny Boxwoods is quaint and endearing. Although small, the outdoor patio was perfect to enjoy breakfast on for our morning coffee date. Our dishes were delicious, 5/5 stars easily. The prices were typical of a ritzy southern restaurant- $21.00 for the breakfast "tacos" plate and a mug of coffee. My friend got the avocado toast which was criticized in a previous post for being too citrus-y, but she felt it was well-balanced. Overall, we enjoyed our breakfast at Tiny's a lot. Now, the reason it got 4/5 stars. While I'm enjoying my pricey and relaxing breakfast, the sound of trucks, a teenager wiping off his skateboard, and smelling a hint gasoline (because it's right off a busy/main part of 35th street) was not pleasant. Tiny's is almost its own little world and would fit better in Tarrytown or hidden in the oak trees of Bouldin Creek. Overall, I was very pleased with Tiny Boxwoods. I've only been once and the food was great, however, making a reservation here has been an AWFUL experience. The first time I called for a reservation I was told we couldn't get a table until 7. After she took down my information she said "let me check with my manager to make sure we're taking reservations." She came back to the phone and said that they weren't taking reservations.... okay, fine, but if that's the case then why would you take my information down BEFORE checking with your manager? And why wouldn't you know that already if you're answering the phone for reservations? I thought it was a weird situation so I called back the next day. It was a much easier process and we reserved a table. The day before our reservation I missed a call from the restaurant saying they had concerns for our reservations because it is outside and it was supposed to rain. I called back SEVEN times after missing their call and every time the line was busy so I couldn't get through. I tried calling this morning TWICE and both times the line was busy. They called me again to tell me they had to cancel our reservation. Whoever was talking on the phone thought it would make me feel better to say that we were the only group that they couldn't get ahold of ???? I tried calling nine times in total. I understand that the restaurant has absolutely zero control over the weather (obviously) but our problems with getting a reservation started long before they cancelled our reservation the day of, and the weekend of graduation weekend. They didn't even offer carry out. Simply cancelled our reservation. So incredibly frustrated with this restaurant. read more

We tried to go there for my bachelorette lunch at 12 on a Friday(friends called during planning and the morning of see if there is any way to put us on a list or reserve since this is a special occasion and they refused) and when we got there at 12 we were told the wait would be 2-5 hours. How is that even possible and on a weekday?! There were people outside waiting but maybe 3 small groups? I must first disclose that Tiny Boxwoods is my favorite restaurant period. I regularly make the drive to Houston just to eat there. When the staff told me they were opening in Austin I checked the site daily for an opening date and secured reservations for opening night. Opening night: As you might expect the staff was still clearly getting settled in. There was a general feel of chaos but everyone was very friendly. The location is great and the interior is beautiful. We began with Chardonnay and Prosecco, but both were barely chillled. The fried green tomatoes were on point with a delicate tempura fry. Salad was a little basic and the pepperoni pizza was well done with a vibrant sauce, nice cheese mix and the pepperoni was great. We tried all deserts with each being great. The cookies are a trademark so you definitely must try them if you go. Imho, brunch is where they shine. They aren't currently open for brunch yet but the staff told me it was likely in a month. Boy was this a terrible choice for our special day. The food we ordered was cold and flavorless. I make better bacon and eggs than that and I'm probably the worst cook in my family. And worst of all, we both have been struggling with tummy issues since we left the place!!!! I was in Austin on a work trip and was lucky enough to get to dine at Tiny Boxwoods. The restaurant itself is super cute and very instagramable. The menu is on the smaller side- starters, pizzas, entrees and sides- but that made it easier to decide what to order. I went with two colleagues and we had the Cesar salad to start. We each got a different entree and were all super satisfied with how they turned out. I got the roasted chicken with winter greens, parsnip purée and pomegranates and it was truly amazing. Every bite was so flavorful and all of the ingredients complimented each other so well. We also shared a wonderful bottle of Pinot noir that was recommended by the waitress and shared the cookie a la mode for dessert. I'm still dreaming of that cookie. Based on this, our maiden visit, this is our new FAVORITE restaurant! We came for brunch. Hostesses were lovely and friendly. We ate at the bar, which we love to do. Crystal & Thanh served us and couldn't have been more gracious or helpful. You can tell the employees are happy here. We had Egg&Avocado with tomatillo sauce (amazing!); Just Beet It Burger which came with fresh berries (without the bun & extra lettuce; just a note that beets are not ground, but shredded...different texture than expected, but TASTY) and Chia Pudding with fresh fruit (EXCELLENT!) We'll be regulars here. The space is open, light, airy & gorgeous. I look forward to sitting near the fireplace this winter. There is a lovely outside area we hope to enjoy as soon as the temp comes down. In my opinion, the ONLY downside is that it's a bit loud because of all the glass& flat wooden walls. read more

I was also surprised that the vegetable of the day (asparagus) was woody and not fresh tasting. And there a few non-food details that bothered us.
