Came here this afternoon in need of some kitten therapy and it didn't disappoint! They had one adult cat and I believe 18 or so kittens. The kittens were sweet and playful, and for the most part people were respectful, although I did see one grown woman who kept handling cats that clearly did not want to be picked up. They have coffee, snacks, and soft drinks for a recommended donation of $1 per item which was a nice convenience, and plenty of tables, although the main "play" area was pretty crowded. Its $6 for a half hour or $10 for an hour and you can make reservations online beforehand or take your chances that they'll have room for you day of. They give you a buzzer programmed to go off after your time is up which felt a little unnecessary...seems like they could easily just go honors system and just accept that worst case scenario people might stay a couple minutes over. In some ways I wish they had more of a mix of older cats and young kittens because it was NOT a calming environment, with that being said I had a good time hangin with some kitties. read more

I stopped by recently for the first time as I'm newly retired and thinking about getting a kitty. it was crowded with at least 25 to 30 people including a lot of unsupervised children despite adults being with them. These kids were pretty aggressive with the cats even when they were sleeping on a cat tower, or trying to eat, or trying to hide in a box. At one point a few kids ran after the cats and cornered them in the back room. I was told when I checked in not to pick up the cats because some might've had recent surgery but that didn't stop other adults or children from manhandling some of the kittens. It was busy and I think the staff had their hands full. I'm sure that they care a great deal about the cats. That said, I didn't see anybody redirect the children or the adults with regard to how to best manage the interactions especially as cats scurried away and tried to go into hiding. And when the cats weren't hiding many were sleeping. I would say at least half we're asleep and it's no wonder because they must've been very tired. I simply think the people to cat ratio was simply too high. And when people keep chasing after the cats it doesn't give you much opportunity to let them approach you if you're not inclined to chase after them as well. A really nice space for the kitties to roam and some very sweet tiny lions to interact with. We went on a day when there were only a few cats present and some were very shy. Unfortunately the two cats who wanted the most interaction were hogged by another family - one member would get close and then the others would swarm and block out anyone else, which was super annoying. I know the lounge tries to keep cat to human ratio low-ish, but there were way too many people there today. This is really more of a commentary on other people and not the business itself, but just beware that apparently manners fly out the window in the face of kitty scarcity. I did also notice several children picking up cats, purposely annoying cats, and otherwise not following the posted rules - and none of the workers said or did anything. Best place eeeeeever!!! While at U-M, I would rent a ZipCar to come to the cat lounge!! Of course, to get as much 1:1 time as possible with the kittens, I would recommend reserving a time during work hours. We went on a weekend one time, and it was filled with young kids who were absolutely loving it there. Might sound silly, but theres something so uplifting about playing with a kitten and then having them fall asleep in your arms. Every time, I came out of the center so relaxed and grateful. I've had the good fortune of meeting Brittany, during the Thursday evening KittenYoga time with Taylor Waskie. Brittany manages the kitty yoga evenings, by greeting and checking-in all those who attend, and she takes such wonderful care of the kittens, managing to do this while honoring all the yoga folks practicing all over the floor, along with the many kittens who are always visiting us. What a lovely morning I spent at Tiny Lions! It's an adoption center but open to public to reserve an hour to play with kittens. They have about 20-25 kittens there and they are THE CUTEST. It's free reign so they're every where! The staff/volunteers were so polite and friendly and while I can't have a cat (I live with someone who is VERY allergic), I got my fix donating to the humane society and playing with cute kittens. This place was adorable! I love the concept of playing with cats in a lounge area and have the option to potentially adopt one of them. Compared to other cat cafes/lounges, this isn't a cafe but does allow drinks from the coffee place next door. Others I've been to (Seattle) has a cafe attached to the area that is separated by two doors. Regardless, of the way this is designed, is super cute. I never had to wait and have been able to go in on a walk in bases. The cats are friendly and sweet, and it's nice that they labeled the cats with the tags based on their behaviors and whether or not they're getting adopted. This helps remind others of which cat is more friendly or not so friendly. They also have some nice deals during exam weeks which is awesome when I was a student at University of Michigan! read more

Play and lounge with kittens for an hour and you'll have a whole new perspective on life! It's $7 for an hour and you can schedule reservations online. Bring food and nonalcoholic beverages, too! You could also throw a party at the center. They have tables, cozy chairs, and so many sweet kitties to cuddle. It's a great activity for tiny cat lovers as long as they understand to use quiet voices and gentle hands. The center also provides lots of toys to use to play with the pouncing lovies. If you're looking to adopt a cat, this is an excellent place to get to know and bond with a few, especially if you have children. Cat cafes are such a fun new concept, and after visiting my first one a few months ago, I knew that I would have to check out Tiny Lions after arriving in Ann Arbor. The concept is simple: pay a small fee per half hour to hang out with adoptable cats. If one likes you enough, you may even find yourself taking him/her home! It's a soothing environment where you can read or drink some coffee with a purring furball by your side while gentle music plays in the background. On my trip here, I swung by in the early afternoon and paid for a half hour. There's a Keurig machine there, and I think the suggested donation for a drink was $2. After procuring my coffee, I sat down in one of the comfy chairs and waited for the cats to meander on over. Maybe my pheremones were off that day, or maybe it was naptime, but all the cats wanted to curl up under furniture or in a spot far from humans. My last cat cafe experience had several of the plopping down in my lap for a half hour at a time, so my expectations were high. Despite the lack of feline friendliness, I still highly recommend you swing by, and I probably will as well soon. Who knows, maybe that time I will find my new furry best friend! read more

What an excellent concept: grab a coffee next door at Biggby then come play with the kitties. If you fall in love, adopt it. I expected to get to play with some cats. HOWEVER. Cats are fickle and sleep a lot. All 16 were sleeping and didn't care that there were people there to pet and play. Just remember that when you visit. I got the impression that was very common. I felt bad for the cats being harassed by the two young girls that wanted to play and kept disturbing the sleepers. They have some supplies and small bags of treats available for donation. I've been wanting to come here for a long time because I am a huge animal lover, and finally made it in today since I was on this side of the planet. I am huge on adoption through rescue agencies, and support them when I can. I already have a cat, but love to come and check these places out. There is a small donation fee collected at the door and you are free to play with the cats as much as you would like. There's tons of toys available along with plenty of seating. Cats are everywhere, and they are all so cute! The place is really well laid out and you can spend all day there if you would like. They also host regular events like family movie night, bingo, yoga and many others. I love that they do that because it gets the community involved and helps get these cats adopted. I think if I lived closer I would stop in more often to hang out. I know that cat cafe's are new, but I love the concept. As someone who has a cat, it's important to remember that they are not dogs. Some cats are more outgoing then others, but you have to let them come to you. Plus, your supporting a really good organization. read more

Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and I want to come back. Generally, it seems that the staff and volunteers care a lot about the cats but they are not taking into account feedback about the enforcement of the lounge's rules. After reading multiple negative reviews relating to the treatment of the cats by small children, I was hoping that Tiny Lions would start actually enforcing their rules, which would ideally create a respectful and safe environment for the cats (no picking up cats, no chasing cats, etc.). However, it seems that Tiny Lions has done absolutely nothing in response to these complaints. I observed adults, including staff, volunteers, and parents, watch and do nothing in response to children mistreating the cats. I observed small children chasing kittens, who were running away and hiding in fear. I also observed small children squeezing cats and improperly picking them up. In addition to running away, hiding, and avoiding the children, the kittens showed other signs of fear (arching their back, puffing their tail, hissing, and wide eyes). The cats couldn't even escape into a safe space if they wanted to, because they were being touched even at the top of their towers and children were reaching into their dens, which should be a safe space where cats can retreat. It's a great idea for cats to be socialized to children, but at this rate it seems that these cats will just be traumatized by children. I've been to cat cafes that don't allow anyone under 12, and it seemed to work out much better for the cats (and the welfare of the cats should be the top priority!). read more

The website was a little misleading but their heart is definitely in the right place. Went to meet a potential cat but they only had very young kittens who were extremely overwhelmed by the many, maaaaany children running around. I don't know if I would recommend this as a place to hang out unless being in the proximity of cats, without really interacting with them, is important to you. Yes, there are adorable kitties about, but most were nested in carpeted boxes or hiding somewhere. Can't say I blame them since they're mobbed with people want to play with them and tussle them. Hitting this place at an off hour (we were there on a Sunday afternoon) might increase the odds of getting some feline love. The cafe was a bit crowded when we were there, making seating scarce, and in some cases people formed lines to meet some of the cats. It was certainly worth checking out, and I can't complain about the fee. Remember, you're not just buying cat time-you're donating to a shelter. Think of it like Girl Scout Cookies: you could buy cheaper cookies that are at least as good off store shelves, but you wouldn't be donating to the cause. Your neighbors might let you play with their cats for free, but you wouldn't be helping other cats have a chance of finding a good home. If you want to give some deserving felines a better future, or take one into your own home, go have a look. read more

I wish I could give less stars. I was so excited to come in and visit. This place is so much closer to me then the Catfe Ferndale. However, after two minutes of being here we wish we had not came in. To late... already paid $14 for one hour, to do nothing. You are even given a pager type device that counts down your time and alerts you when you get to leave. I would describe this place as a stuffy library with evil librarians at the counter. It is not at all welcoming. They do not have any kittens because they say they "try to keep the atmosphere calming." Well how is it that you can adopt them then when you can't get to know them. And how are kittens not calming? As far as holding, oh no that is not allowed. You must "get to know the cat first" we were told rudely. I thought I was going to be punished when I picked one up because I had yet to read the many "Rules"signs. Apparently because they may bite you can't hold them. I guess that is what waivers are for. Nothing is allowed here except for making purchases of there various items they sell and staring blankly at the sleeping cats and petting them. Save your money and your time and head to Ferndale if you're interested in a good experience and interaction with the cats/kittens. They charge $10 and there is no limit on time. The atmosphere there is relaxed yet enjoyable and fun. You are also able to hold, snuggle and love the animals and they even provide coffee, snacks and friendly staff. I won't be back. I can't imagine giving this place anything less than five stars. I own two cats myself, and I love hanging out with the kitties up for adoption. We went for the Saturday trivia night, and everyone's laid back. The people there are primarily volunteers of the Humane Society, and they give their time out of love for the cats. The trivia was fun (questions were mostly crowd pleasers), and they let you bring your own snacks. You also get two drink tickets. They have a gift shop in the corner of the cafe near the window. I hung out with Charlie (he's a bit of a grump, but a great cat if you get to know him!). My significant other wouldn't let me adopt another cat, so no Charlie that night. He's an older gray tabby and needs a good home. There's so many shelves, kitty condos and scratch pads for these cats to play with. It's a real feline paradise! read more

I had an absolutely purrfect time when I came for a coloring with cats event. Even though I have two cats at home that thoroughly ignore me, I thought having twenty cats ignore me would be much better! The cats were really cute and the cat related coloring was a lot of fun. I had an excellent time perusing the area and really enjoyed myself. My mom and friend also had a good time! This was the best cat experience I've ever had. It only took a few minutes before my family and I fell in love with a cool dude named Steve (a black domestic shorthair). We signed the adoption application and a week after, we brought him home with us. He was the purrfect fit for our family, especially for our 4 1/2 year old daughter. Steve adjusted almost immediately when we brought him home and started sleeping in our bed with us the first night. Tiny lions is a great place to adopt a cat and I would recommend anyone that is looking, to check it out. The staff are very nice and accommodating. read more

I visited the Tiny Lions center as part of a Yelp Elite event, and had an incredible time. I've never visited a cat adoption cafe, but the experience was really interesting and enjoyable. While we munched on baked goods, cats meandered through the interior and played with us. Regardless of whether you're a 'dog person,' I can almost guarantee that you'll enjoy these feline friends. Interestingly, everything inside is tailored for cat activities, with various hutches and wall sconces for hiding and jumping on. The volunteers are also really receptive to questions, and helped answer all the questions I had. Ultimately, the mission of this café is to get these cats adopted, and I wholly support this goal! I have been to Tiny Lions twice, once shortly after it opened and again this weekend. The first time I went there were about 6-7 people in the place, the cats were not super interested which is fine, they are cats. I did have a couple of kitties jump up at my table for pets and that was all I needed. The second time was kind of a nightmare. I came because my husband and I are hoping to adopt a cat soon, having owned cats all our lives. When I first arrived I saw that the parking lot was full and I figured, it's a weekend, maybe we won't be able to come in, but that's what you get for not calling ahead. We walked in anyway and the place was packed and kind of loud--we were told that a birthday party had just started but we could still come in because "the birthday party doesn't count toward the cap." We probably should have just left, but we were stopping by with an hour to kill before dinner and dang it I wanted to pet a cat! The birthday party consisted of maybe 8 kids around the age of 9? Maybe? As well as the parents supervising and the other visitors that kept being let in. I would estimate that there were 25-30 people including staff in the space at one point, and per the adoption photos on the wall, 19 cats. All of the tables and couch areas were occupied, i.e. standing room only, not a great way to get comfortable with the cats. Speaking of which, I felt incredibly bad for the poor kitties. Many of the children were basically harassing them, and the front desk let in even more kids at one point. I witnessed multiple kids petting roughly and chasing cats, and when the cats would try to escape to a high place the kids would start slapping at them with those stick toys that have feathers on the end. The cats were clearly stressed. What's worse, for all the rules that are posted, the staff didn't redirect any of these children and just watched them--maybe they didn't feel empowered to in the presence of the parents, I don't know. So in this environment it isn't surpising that I did not touch one cat in the hour I was there. For the 2 or 3 cats who were chill enough to not be hiding, there were 20 people who wanted to pet them. It seems that there is a high turnover rate of cats being adopted from here, which is great! But honestly I don't know how anyone can figure out whether a cat is right for them, in this environment. My philosophy on cat adoption is to actually have some interaction with a cat rather than pointing and saying, "I want that one." That was impossible for me today. Even if there were fewer people there, I worry about them being oversocialized--like if I had come after this party they would have been totally traumatized! The one thing that was my bad was that I should have checked the Facebook page and I would have known there was a birthday party. That being said, they really should have JUST CLOSED to other visitors for this private party. I don't regret paying to go, because I love supporting this organization, but they really need to make sure they are adhering to the caps on visitors and the behavior rules. At busy times like weekends it might be worth instituting a reservation system to help with a few walkins available. As it was, it was crowded, stressful, and the ones who got the worst end of the deal were the cats. read more

Paid 8$ for my husband and I to pet some cats for 30 mins. Stayed maybe 10mins and realized these cats were not interested. I pet one cat lightly and he walked away and hissed... i was slightly shocked. I've pet many a cat in my lifetime. The front person was like "yeah... that cat is moody.. if you look hard Enough you should find the other cats around" most were tucked in their little nooks and those cats as well were not amused by the pets. I don't know if they were getting roughed up by other visitors / kids prior. But it was a lot of sleeping irritated cats. I wasn't annoyed about giving humane society 8$ that's fine. But it just wasn't what I thought it would be and wouldn't go back. However going to the actual humane society is much more fun and you can see kittens and older cats and dogs. Tiny Lions is a great place to visit and volunteer. The staff are always working hard to accommodate guests, keep the place clean, and improve the cafe. It has also been extremely successful as an adoption center. From the Polaroid photos on the wall, you can see how many dozens of cats have found their forever homes through Tiny Lions, which is great evidence of this place's mission! Regarding some of the criticisms I have seen here: Some reviewers here have complained that guests can't pick up the cats. This is for the cats' and the guests' well-being. Some cats just don't enjoy being picked up, and if a cat were to scratch or bite a guest trying to pick them up, it would obviously be an unpleasant experience for both human and cat. Many of the cats are quite social and some will hop into your lap if you are patient, and many are very eager for affection. And if you adopt a cat at Tiny Lions, you can pick them up to your heart's content in the privacy of your own home. The cats at Tiny Lions are adult cats that range in age from about 5 months to mature cats. If you're looking to adopt or interact with young kittens, I'd recommend heading directly to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, which is Tiny Lions' partner organization. Recently, though, there have been Kittenpalooza events at Tiny Lions on certain Fridays that feature adoptable kittens, so call the cafe or check the website for the event schedule if you want to play with or adopt a kitten. Although from my understanding the managers try to pick social and outgoing cats for Tiny Lions, cats may not feel playful or energetic 100% of the time. Much like humans, cats may need a break from attention and playing, might have bad days, or might be stressed or sleepy. The truth is that paying the fee at Tiny Lions does not guarantee that the totality of your time there will be spent actively playing with cats. This is the reality of interacting with animals. Just like when your favorite animal might not be out in the enclosure when you go to a zoo or animal park, the cats at Tiny Lions might not be up for play ALL the time...but luckily, they are a lot of the time! I recommend avoiding weekends and coming early in the morning if you want to enjoy some quality time with the cats when they are active and the cafe is not crowded, OR you can become a volunteer! For the best possible experience at Tiny Lions, I recommend arriving with an open heart and mind. These are living beings who don't exist exclusively for your entertainment, and it's selfish to demand attention from them when they aren't feeling it. I know that paying a fee makes some feel that they are entitled to active interaction, but the fee is a donation that keeps the cats well-fed and comfortable with food, toys, litter, cleaning supplies, and everything else that keeps the operation running smoothly. Tiny Lions is a space where guests can enjoy watching and playing with cats with the hopes that these homeless kitties can find forever homes, and people who are excited about that mission are people who I expect will have the most fun at the cafe! read more

I really enjoyed my time here, so refreshing and relaxing to spend time away with some of the miserable and unhappy co workers I face 5 days a week. Cats are cats, some days they may be lazy, others they will be energetic and playful. Where else can one go for seven dollars an hour for compassion? For those of you who complain about the timer and price, remember, there are employees and rent to pay. I volunteer at an animal shelter, so many families want to come in and just "play", not at all interested in the adoption process, remember, shelters are helping animals find a forever home, not free entertainment, as for lack of kittens, thousands of adult cats are killed every day, because many chose a kitten over an adult cat. Been here three times already and enjoyed it every time. So many cats with different personalities for you to interact with! There's a bunch of toys available that you can use to make some new kitty friends! The atmosphere is really tranquil and relaxing and the space is really open and clean. The staff are really friendly and knowledgeable with regards to each of the cats available for adoption. The cost is $7 an hour which I think is pretty reasonable considering the great cause you are supporting (I believe they're affiliated with the Humane Society). The rules are all pretty common sense--things like not chasing cats, pulling their tails, waking them up if they're sleeping etc. In terms of not picking the cats up, the staff inform you that some cats may not like as much as others and they are also trying to make the cats as comfortable as possible. Again all very sensible. Overall, Tiny Lions is a really welcoming and fun place to visit and I highly recommend it to anyone. read more

Went in the early afternoon when most of the babies were asleep. It was a hard game finding all the tiny places the kitties were hiding! They said there were 14 out, but we barely counted 7? 10? While a couple of the cats were out on chairs and in the trees, we had to get on all fours and look under everything to find the napping fur balls. The cats themselves were pretty tolerant when you reached into all these small places to pet them. I wished there were more brushes and such around (and not so chewed up toys) because these babies really needed some TLC with their hygiene. This was much fun. I love cats myself but my friend who attended with me is a cat magnet. She had no sooner sat down than she had two cats in her lap. I found the cats to be friendly and the Yelp staffers to be even more friendly. There were plenty of chairs and plenty of cats. The desserts were delicious and, even though I didn't drink any wine, there appeared to be enough and in a couple of varieties. The Humane Society does such a great job and it is wonderful to be able to see the cats interacting with lots of humans outside the shelter. read more
