The man at the counter was advising other customers about dog food and gave me some advice about grooming brushes for my cat. He recommended one but said they were all out, and told me when he expected the next shipment in.

She and her staff know the inventory and can do special orders. They are very friendly and helpful. Laura owns dogs but not cats. That's why she is interested in hearing my feedback on all the cat-related products. One of our cats has fur slightly longer than "domestic short hair" length. Even after we started brushing him, he had two separate bouts of life-threatening furballs. I did some research. Apparently, beet pulp is used in dry cat food to help push furballs out of the body before they can get large and life-threatening. Since starting to eat Blue Buffalo Indoor Health kibble, which contains beet pulp, the furballs have not been a major problem. Laura told me she was grateful to know that sort of information. She really wants to provide the best possible service to all her customers. Our last dog was allergic to all sorts of things. At W2W, I was able to find several types of dog cookies that she could eat. We fed her a home-made diet because of the allergies, but it was nice to be able to buy already-made cookies. Our current dog is as healthy as a horse. We have to keep her away from the self-serve bulk cookie bins, as she would grab a mouthful if she could. W2W has all the pet supplies that really matter. Premium kibble and canned foods, treats & toys, grooming supplies, etc. There might be larger stores, but they don't have anything new to offer me and my pets.

(Maybe a tractor might be a good idea after all.) Tractor Supply is fancier than the other, locally owned feed stores. They have a lot of the stuff a feed store has, including cow ear tags and horse vaccines, but they also have what I think of as the "tourist" section, with miniature farm animal and tractor toys. They have Carthart work boots & clothing (I got a nice pair of coverall pants here) along with Ararat shoes & boots and other country inspired footwear, pants & shirts for men & women. I won't buy pet food here--not high enough quality for me. Also, don't let your dog eat anything off the floor. There are occasional spills in the pet food section. I have bought cat and dog collars and leashes, certain treats (read the label if you don't want stuff from China) and a few dog toys over the years. They used to have some 1" wide 6' long leather leashes, but I haven't seen them there these days, so I ended up purchasing a nylon leash, which is not as abrasive on the hands, but my dog doesn't pull on her leash. Leather is better when you have a puppy or a dog that still pulls on the leash. One of my best purchases: a pink, rubbery horse brush (out of the horse supply section) with tiny rubber bristles. It fits over your entire hand, like a mitten. I use it on my cats. It's the giant tongue that licks them all over their body. They love it, and it reduces furballs. They have a very basic selection of veggie and flower seeds in the spring. The bagged onion sets, asparagus roots, rhubarb, etc. are a good value, *IF* you can buy them before the dry heat of the store causes them to sprout, dry out and rot. (Sniff the onion sets before you buy. Don't buy them if they smell like "Ew!") They have pet adoption days once in a while. (Dogs and cats, access to low-cost spay and neuter, etc.) Oh, and the baby chicks and ducks! You could start your own little egg farm. The book and magazine section is very nice. The topics include: homesteading, raising animals, horse riding, do-it-yourself, and traditional arts & crafts. Worth having a look now and then for crafty ideas. They have tractor and lawnmower parts, chainsaws, riding mowers and snow blowers. Most of the parts are made in China, but who makes these in the USA any more? They have a decent hardware fittings section. Between Tractor Supply and ACO hardware, you can usually find what you need in Saline ... otherwise head to Stadium Hardware in Ann Arbor, which seems to have every doodad known to humanity. They let us bring our dog in there, and she gets a treat at the checkout register. She loves the place even more than I do.

After leaving the store I realized I forgot my coupon so I called up and the lady on the phone said I could bring it in the next day and get the difference. Neither of the dog seat belts worked on my dogs; they were both too big and could squirm out of them. I have spent thousands of dollars worth of purchases at The Pet Emporium throughout the years and have NEVER returned anything, even if my dogs didn't like it. I have a memory problem and forgot the case the one seat belt went into, but it was still brand new.. not dirty or anything, like I said we had just purchased it the night before. The lady would not return it until I got the case for it. I have seen items there at The Pet Emporium without a case on it so why would my item be any different, it's not like it was a food item. And also, she did not credit me the difference with the coupon she said she would; she told me to use it on my next purchase. I usually brag about this store and love going there because of how friendly and helpful they are. I've written good reviews online about them, told of my good experiences there when I go to the dog park often, etc. But if they cannot make a simple return without all this grief after I've spent so much money there and held them in high esteem, then it's time to find a new pet store.

We have a situation where our dog requires 5 different types of eye medication, three times a day in his eyes. So that means someone has to be able to give him the meds at night around 9 or 10. Until I heard about this place, the only place in town who could do this is Petsmart. No other boarding place has someone working there late at night. Cyd told me this wasn't even an issue and of course they'd be able to give him his meds whenever we said he needed them. So it was a non-issue. Unheard of. I spoke to them on the phone a few times and they reassured me Gryff would be in good hands. First off, they take your dog out six times a day. Without a charge. That's just normal and routine. This is UNHEARD OF, people. You're lucky if your dog can be let out more than twice and they get to be outdoors. Not in a room like at Petsmart. You also have the option to let your dog be taken out in a group of other dogs (so they get some play time) or they can go out with just the people. Since our dog is getting a little older, playing with other dogs is hit or miss. To prevent this, they just spent more time with him and said he was great! I've also been told by people at Petsmart that my dog gets put in "time out" because he'd bark at other dogs. He's a mediator. That's a trait of corgis; big dog in a small dog body. But they took it as him being "aggressive" and he wasn't allowed in the group plays. At Pittsfield Pet Care, Cyd told me he was fine. Sure, they spent more time with him than him with other dogs, but they said he was totally fine. I have to trust two people who know and understand dogs over a kid working in a pet store. Dr. Karr is a licensed vet so if something happens there is someone there who will be able to take care of them. This is extremely reassuring. Given our dog's medical history, and a slight toe injury he was getting over, it was good to know he'd be in good hands should anything happen. Bottom line: board your pet here. They're going to be in compassionate dog people who know, understand and love dogs like their own. Their rate is great too ($30/night) and we only had a pay an additional fee per day because of the amount of medicine he needs. The facility is clean, which is a big thing on my list too. Drop-off and Pick-up was a breeze and these two people are two of the most friendly and wonderful people I have met.

He made it abundantly clear that you and the loss of your beloved pet is what mattered. We called to seek services and without even hesitation or the mention of packages and pricing, all Paul wanted to know was "What was her name." Not in a way to write up a form, but in general interest of wanting to know what important pet has left your family. My family has been in animal rescue for years and no one has ever taken that caring approach on wanting to know about the pet first. What was she like, how she mattered to you and her importance in your life. He made you feel like you indeed are dealing with a loss and it was definitely significant. Upon meeting him, it was understood why. He had a dog, Brady, that was his whole world. This dog travelled the nation with him and was his companion for years. He was known in the community and was very beloved. Sadly, he passed away and Paul knew first hand the great loss it weighs on the heart. He took that loss and somehow translated into being able to comfort those during their sadness and making them feel like they are not just a transaction. He sympathized, because he felt that pain before. He understood, because he has been there before. And for some, these pets are their whole world, and he has known that, because he had Brady. This is the kind of care that you want handling your cremations for your fur babies. You want someone who will cradle them, as they carry them away from your car and you want someone who hands you back a beautiful urn with a lovely wildflower seed heart to plant, so that the love continues to live on.
