A wonderful neighborhood market combined with a record store. They have a handful of frozen and fresh foods for immediate consumption. They also have chilled and shelf beer and wine. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I really appreciate the vibe of the place and the fact that they stand for equality and protecting human rights of all of our community members. During non Covid times, they have a bar you can sit at to have a pint or a glass of wine. I look forward to those days again so I can spend more time in this lovely place. read more

I'm trying to make it more of a habit that whenever I'm in new cities I check out more record stores for the simple fact the depending the region of the country you're in the music tastes obviously is different. And even when they're the same you still may stumble upon some gems you could never find back home. A quick google search lead me to Tip Top Market. Located inside they have an amazing craft beer selection in their bodega portion of the market. Then you can also find a small bookstore tucked in the back corner of the building. And then finally there's the grand attraction we came for, the record store, Premium Sounds. Went in with no expectations but boy did they have a great collection. Littered with some gems that I'm not even sure they comprehended what they had in hand. I walked away with over 8 records, along with some I never knew even existed. If you're ever in the mood to have a great beer, buy and book and a record for nice evening in, stop by Tip Top Market. You will not be disappointed. read more

A perfectly placed little market in between NoDa and Plaza Midwood. Also conveniently right beside my favorite bar in Charlotte outside of breweries! This shop has everything you need for lunch or even a nice evening keeping it low key. They have different types of food (pre packaged and the likes) and lots of craft beer to choose from. Also you can pick up your standard domestics (mostly) here too. All prices are typical market prices but check their specials! Don't be afraid to even treat this as as normal bar as well because a solid selection of beer on tap and excellent wine to choose from too. Service is phenomenal. They do a great job of making you feel at home even if you are from another part of town or even out of state. Don't pass this small shop up! read more

I've tried, I've really tried to love Tip Top but sometimes you just can't force these things. I have stopped in a handful of times since they opened including in the pre-vinyl shop days. One of the first things I noticed is that they charge way more than any other bottle shop for packaged beers. At first I wrote this off as them getting their footing as a new business but it's been like 2 years now and the prices are still super high. I don't necessarily enjoy the vibe either. It's always very quiet and walking in feels like you have just interrupted a private conversation. I find it awkward. I can appreciate that they do half price drafts on Mondays, but unfortunately that's still not enough to make me a patron. read more

Records, extra virgen olive oil, and real dreidel like spinning tops for the kids. All of these things can be purchased at TipTop. After spending lots of time in more jaded regions of Charlotte, it's like seeing the city through a sparkled more optimistic lense. The cold brew coffee is some of the best in the city. I usually find cold brew pretentious and overpriced yet TipTop has given me a reason to order it. They offer a Moroccan style syrup and several a near milk options instead of granulated sugar. Happy employees make for happy customers. The laid back atmosphere allows for extended conversation amongst the staff and patrons. Friendly, professional and attentive, the wait staff is clearly dedicated to the success of the enterprise. Along with the hardwood bar, family and dog friendly enviornment, they have vegan donuts from Pepperbox. Did I mention records? Along with specialty craft brew and a wide array of hard to find emporium style goods, TipTop sells vynal. The records and tapes are arranged against the walls amidst a canopy of christmas lights offsetting the grandure of a massive Persian rug that covers the tile. The beer ranges from good to really good and I'm not much of a beer fan. The outdoor patio located in the back is one of the hidden jewels of Charlotte. Complete with gas grill and fire pit, the wood fenced, gravel space feels like a neighborhood cookout than a bar. The real magic however comes from the gatekeepers, the bartenders and waitstaff that make the organization unique. read more

The Lady and I had just finished visiting friends in the Plaza area and they directed us here - I truly believe every neighborhood should be so lucky as to have this type of market. Ours is Rhino. An awesome bottle shop with some really unique brews and some awesome prices. One of my favorite go-tos happened to be on a flash sale - $4.00 for a six pack of Session Black! We were just looking for a quick stop, so we browsed their foods, picked out a bag of sweet potato chips, and sat down for a quick beer on tap. During our time there, we saw many people come in and out that knew the owner personally - and that really spoke to the hometown support that little shops like this deserve. Two words describe Tip Top...HIDDEN GEM. If you like beer, and I'm not talking about a case of PBR or a 40 of Old English, this is the place for you. Tip Top has beers from all over the world. No matter how much of a beer snob you are, I guarantee there are beers in here that you've never had before. They have a small bar area with no more than 10 seats in the first part of the store, and a retail area in the second half of the store. They have a few beers on tap, so don't be shy to ask for a taste and get a recommendation from the guy behind the counter! The staff is really friendly, so it makes you want to sit, have a beer and hang out. If you don't feel like having a beer on tab, grab what you want from the cooler, take a seat at the counter, and enjoy your beverage. In addition to a unique beer selection, they have some eclectic snacks and frozen foods that you won't find in the chain grocery stores. I definitely wouldn't come here on a date. If I'm with a group of friends who just want to grab a casual drink at a relaxed place that ISN'T a bar in the Plaza Midwood area, I would come here. Lots of friendly neighborhood people so you'll feel comfortable just hanging out and trying a new beer. read more

We stopped in to try one a Pepperbox donut. Pepperbox is a​ pop-up and this day they happened to be at the Tip Top Daily Market. A very​y unique selection of just about anything. Service was exceptional and the donut was delicious. We split a Miso Caramel, which was an amazing confection. The flavor/sweetness was not over the top which i appreciated but the donut itself, OMG. Really a piece of work. Tender yet not melty like a Krispy Kreme. It had a little give was ​a refreshing surprise. If this donut had to make it on the streets, I would bet on it surviving. Cute little market with great deals on beer! The daily deal when we went was $4 for a 6-pack of Session Black which is an unreal deal! Apparently it's the end of the season. But this beer is hard to find as it is. We grabbed a bag of sweet potato chips and sat down at the counter for pints. Had the Wooden Robot Nitro Coffee Java Stout, which was great! Good beer selection between the drafts and the refrigerators. No hot food, but a nice hole in the wall where the owners are right there hanging out with you. read more

This place is mainly a deli and food store but had a large area for new and used vinyl. It appears they are just getting started as they did not have a huge selection but it was well organized and neat and clean. They had the basic run of the mill records that most places have- very common older records and their prices are pretty good. Worth stopping by to check out but if u r looking for hard to find stuff this is not the place. read more

I like there's beer wine and cider selection, but my biggest issue with them is they mark up their drinks way way way too much. I use to go there all the time until I discovered Salud which has a bigger selection and it does not mark up their drinks so high. read more

This is what Plaza/Shamrock area has been needing! Tip Top is on the Plaza (in the same mini strip mall as Hattie's). Tip Top is just a little neighborhood store. This is the sort of place where you can grab items for a quick dinner (the meatballs are DELICIOUS) or you can pick up some snacks before going to a friend's house (amazing, local pimento cheese and lots of other provisions). There is a decent size beer and wine selection. If you are chatty, there is a bar where you can enjoy a draft beer and discuss local politics, the condo boom or comic books. They play lots of records and love music. My favorite thing about Tip Top is that it has a strong community feel to it. Every neighborhood in Charlotte needs a Tip Top. read more

Glad there's a place close to the house where you can go grab a sixer and snacks and not have to walk through a big crowd of hipsters. The people working at Tip Top have always been friendly and they have a fantastic beer selection. Better than any neighborhood market in the city. My only complaint is there's not a lot of seating. Still I'm giving them 5 stars because of the beer selection and the chill come as you are vibe. read more
