When the motor returned from the machine shop, that price went up to $8500 because he said he underestimated the cost of the machine shop work. The lack of communication was unreal. Then the week of installing the engine he gives me a bill for $11,984.01 because he said the quote did not include his labor. Additionally, the parts HE ordered (headers, radiator) did not fit. His solution to this problem was for me to reorder these parts at my own expense!! And he was very disrespectful about it as if I ordered I made the mistake! It took ALL of my military bearing to remain calm with this guy. He initially told me he had to order all of the parts for this project and now he wanted me to order parts for a misquoted job. I refused! I forfeited my engine and deposit and just took it as a horrible and costly experience. I wasn't giving him anymore money because if you're incompetent enough to order the wrong parts then who knows how the motor will run..especially for nearly $12k!!! I was fooled by the good reviews and did not read into the bad ones, which point out the same issues I experienced. There were several flags you should pick up on if you ever consider using this place...heck I should've picked up on these flags but he starts off very professional until he gets your money of course. 1st flag: the business does not take Visa, Mastercard, etc. or that's what I was told. I had to pay all in cash. 2nd flag: his quotes are very vague, sketchy, misleading and he won't give you much in writing. 3rd flag: he is a very rude guy who lacks customer service skills. He will turn belligerent as soon as you question him on something. 4th flag: He rarely has any customers at his shop. (This is when I realized I had been scammed) This is a shady establishment, please BEWARE!! Don't be like me, READ THE BAD REVIEWS and do your due diligence. If you take the lock with you, it's a $20 fee. Before my call, there was no place to leave the lock except an iron gate that opened & securing tires & such. The Owner said it was ok for me to toss the lock inside the gate, in which I did & snap a picture too boot. To note, this shop doesn't open until 11A, hence why I opted to use the App to access the truck.

I've gotten a lot of maintenance work done here. Throttle body cleaning, tires (alignment + balance…read more+ rotation), a serpentine belt and tensioner pulley. But after my check engine light came on for EVAP codes. I started to notice their lack of communication. The EVAP codes could be multiple things like a purge valve, vacuum switching valve, charcoal canister, hoses etc. I ordered a vacuum switching valve after some research and they said it was the wrong part. It wasn't the wrong part, because I just had it installed somewhere else, and the VSV already on there wouldn't click at all. So the part I previously ordered was the right buy. But old school wanted to put a new part in that they ordered. A vent valve. I had no issue. They're professionals they know what they're doing maybe my vent valve was faulty. But when I asked how they diagnosed that it was indeed a faulty vent valve. They wouldn't tell me. Keith said "you can't really tell if it's bad". So you're replacing a part that you're not sure I need? Sheesh could at least run the smoke test. Then trying to ask for more info about the part they're ordering and putting in my car, was a hassle. I felt like a nuisance. As a customer I shouldn't feel nervous asking about my car but they sound extremely annoyed talking to me. I'm at performance express and was just told I had a massive head gasket oil leak. Old school didn't catch that. Thank god I was able to catch it. But old school is good overall. Parts come in quick. Labor prices are pretty good. Just communication is meh. Chris is awesome tho.

It required a huge tear down to take out the left engine head and send it to a machine shop to extract two cross threaded bolts. I hired a local mechanic before to do the project, but he stopped working on it after tearing apart about 80% of the parts under the hood. I collected all of the parts and hundreds of screws/bolts in bags and towed the car to Old School Automotive. I thought it would be impossible to figure out where every screw and bolt goes when putting it back together. Somehow, Keith and his team of expert mechanics were able to solve the puzzle after pouring hours and hours into organizing all the parts to put back together. It's up and running like new again, and I couldn't be more blown away. There's nothing this team can't do. They were very detailed oriented and fixed what needed to be fixed, and left alone what didn't. It's not easy to pick up a project that you didn't start yourself. They were extremely fair and transparent with their service and pricing too. Whether you have a small job, or a massive project that requires reassembling the engine, Old School Automotive can do it. A good mechanic is like a good surgeon. I won't take my cars anywhere else (and I live 100+ miles away in Greenville, SC now).

(working perfectly) They also adjusted my dyno-tune for a very reasonable price, as it wouldn't idle worth a crap when I got the car. On top of that, my Darton Sleeve came lose several weeks after getting my clutch installed. They re-wrapped the sleeve & got it back to me at no charge in just a few hrs. And, my idle was not quite right when it came time for A/C to be used, again, they tweaked my dyno-tune to accommodate the A/C compressor, also in just a few hrs time. This also was a no charge visit. Plus, they take the time to explain all my questions, with answers in understandable language. My experience at The Muffler Shop Of Cola has been 100%!!!
