Tony has good food, reasonable prices, good-sized portions, friendly people, and a central location just off 93 in Saint Johnsbury.

I go in for lunch and order plain boneless wings just so I can dip them in Tony's red sauce instead of the usual dressings.

We've been here 3 times, always in winter, and each time the place felt warm and cozy and comfortable, like a neighborhood restaurant should feel. The menu has items that aren't traditionally Italian, such as several burgers, and grilled salmon. They offer a variety of homemade desserts. There are several items that seem non-traditional Americanized Italian, like the prosciutto and chicken Marsala pasta, which I got, and I loved! The quality of the food is very high. Locally sourced, fresh, made with love. We tried the fettuccine Alfredo which was excellent, and a pepperoni pizza. The small size is perfect for one person. The pepperoni was perfectly spiced, cooked crispy, the crust was thin and crispy. Really nicely done! We tried the chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert and it was fantastic...a large piece, almost a cheesecake consistency, with a crispy chocolate crumb crust which we took to go, and they gave us 3 forks for sharing since we were staying at a hotel. Love this place!

The pizzas coming out of the kitchen looked amazing, but my body politely reminded me that vegetables exist, so we went with the Burrata Caprese salad instead. It was fresh, creamy, and delicious--basically summer on a plate. The building itself is charmingly old-school, all warm wood and cozy corners that make you want to stay awhile. The only thing missing? A smile or two from the staff. Let's just say the service could use a refresher course in "hospitality, but make it friendly." If you're local, this might be a great spot for takeout. If you're just passing through like us, the food's good--but the vibe might depend on who's working that day.

The Caesar, although over dressed, had lovely flavor and I liked the whites anchovies they chop in the dressing. Ambiance was what we expected. And now for the cons: we ordered the special of the night... the waitress said she loved these potato filled pasta, so we ordered. Along with the clams and pasta the mushroom horn pasta. The special, was 22 maybe $23. There were literally eight pasta purses on the plate. They were undercooked and while I enjoy flavor, the pasta was too undercooked and nothing hot, the clam dinner that my husband got was warmIsh. Although he ate it, it was quite heavy on the butter in the end. His was just warmer than tepid. Now onto the trumpet mushroom pasta that I ordered. One bite, pasta was undercooked! And the overall dish was too cold for me so I asked for them to heat it. I had eight pieces maybe nine pieces of pasta on my plate. It was a $26 dinner and she comes back and she says they're going to make me a fresh one and it'll be right out. After some 20 minutes go by, nothing...They brought out my to go order before my dinner. So I told them to keep it. As for the to go order, I ordered the pork Milanese. The pork looks lovely, but it was a to go order and they threw a very heavily dressed radicchio salad right on top in a box that was too small for the order and they handed it to me wide open and said here's your takeout order. I asked another waitress to get me another container so I could put the salad in that so we could at least close the two boxes. Lastly, no gloves are used when touching cooked food.... We will not go back...

We enjoyed the mussels gauzzetto and calamari fritti. The Mediterranean chicken was well prepared and tasty. The pasta special was spinach feta almond slices in a light tomato sauce and I substituted penne for fettucine - I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. The margherita pizza was good. We suspect you need reservations for prime dining hours on a weekend. The decor feels a little dated but the food is great. We can forgive the $2 for a quarter loaf of bread because it's only a few dollars and the bread was fresh and served with garlic oil, not like overpriced $10-$12 Parker House Rolls, but it's not a good trend to charge for bread. Service was good until we wanted to pay our bill - that took a little bit. We'll happily return.

There was ample seating at the bar and as a single I sat down and the bartender was nice and cheerful. She helped me through the menu and I ended up with the fruits of the sea.. in an alfredo sauce. The scallops and shrimps were delicious. The noodles were great and the sauce, although a bit thick was very tasty. The only thing I wish I did different was I ordered the lemon cheesecake.. it was very cold so it'd been stored in the fridge as a slice and it didn't seem to be the freshest but it was okay. The atmosphere is wonderful. The location is great. The service is wonderful. I will be back. I'll just order something different. Dessert.
