Really great atmosphere in summer and winter. Tasty classics and nice outdoor space. Good bartenders and servers. Overall great staple.

It was our first visit to the KTA/Burke, after picking our son up at UVM, for a weekend getaway. As mountain bikers the local region is phenomenal. We heard of the Kingdom trails but didn't realize how much we'd love the area and all it has to offer. The Publick house is off the main street and near the trails/Mike's Tiki Bar. It's a cool old structure/barn that has a lot of charm if you appreciate the preserved nature of old places! There's plenty of parking nearby or in the Tiki bar lot. Bikers everywhere and the place was packed. We got lucky and were seated immediately around 7:30 on Saturday evening. We'd biked all day so we were starving and started things off with poutine. We also added on some burgers and mac n' cheese. It's bar food well done because everything was delicious. The poutine was massive and the 3 of us devoured that dish. My burger had some maple syrup and was unbelievable. Our waitress was phenomenal! Great vibe, great visit and reasonably priced - thank you Publick! read more

Serving size is a great value. Fish and chips is delicious. The staff is friendly, always willing to suggest their favorite dish, always laughing and smiling. The atmosphere is delightful have been multiple times never had a bad experience. Love the upstairs space mostly reserved for overflow and larger groups. Saturday night bartender was not paying attention to us and the food took a long time to arrive. I do not recommend the not blonde bartender considering I've been there multiple times and have been ignored before until the cute blonde came with our food. Wouldn't recommend Saturdays considering one bartender takes over the entire bar and only leaves dish washing and food service to the cute blonde. read more

We have been going there since they first opened and always enjoyed it, but something has changed. First we ordered nachos, they were burnt and cold,sent them back and the waitress said," they can't be cold".She reluctantly brought it back to heat up but not until after she stated that it was probably the platter or the cold condiments. We got the next order of nachos and it was still cold in the middle. We asked what the soup of day was and was told to read the menu. We ordered corn chowder, had to add tons of salt and pepper to taste, it tasted like a can of cream corn and they add cream to it. Next we ordered our meals, one of us ordered a cheese burger made medium, it came out rare and we couldn't eat it. The Caesar salads were served without dressing and had to ask for some and the waitress said , oh you want more? We said no, there was none on it. The waitress was very rude! The food was subpar! Everything we had was great - meatloaf, fish and chips were spectacular, pork chops super tender, etc. Ok so I didn't appreciate the upcharge for adding bread to our artichoke dip app when they asked "hey you want bread with that?". I wish I could give two ratings. I would give a 4 star review for the food and bartenders! My one star review is for the people who own this place. Several times, I have been caught off guard by their rudeness. It is quite clear that their food, their bartenders, and the lack of other options in the area is what keeps their seats full. Great food, attentive and friendly service, good beer and wine selection, spacious with no wait -- this place is everything you want in a pub. The veggie burger was flavorful and fries were the perfect mix of crispy and fleshy potatoey fried deliciousness. Side salad had some wilted greens but was overall decent. Besides, what do you expect from a salad at a pub -- just indulge and get the fries instead. I have been to Burke Publik House many times throughout the phases of ownership and remodeling. My most recent visit was a Tuesday night. It was moderately busy and the wait staff was hustling so you could tell there was a small wait. We even made a reservation and it didn't make a difference. It took us 40 minutes to get our first rounds of drinks. But we didn't care we were having a nice time regardless. I came here with four other people and we all ordered different appetizers, beers, cocktails, and entrees. I ordered a Moscow mule. I was impressed with their beer selection and the waitresses knowledge of all of the beers! For an appetizer my favorite was the poutine, the entree I ordered was the salmon steak which was cooked to perfection. Overall Burke Publik house great job from the recent years and changes. It's really come into its own and blossomed. I will be returning for sure for more poutine and Moscow mules! read more

This place is usually packed and I don't know how, food is mediocre at best and if you get water it usually tastes like water at a water park, or chlorine-y I guess? We come up,to East Burke pretty regularly for a Friday thru Saturday hiking, hiking, snowshoeing, etc and generally eat here one night. We love eating at the Publick House, the food and service is great. The atmosphere is wonderful and reflects the small northern VT community. Four of us went to this establishment last night.....SOME of the food was very good....IF you could hang around long enough to be served any of it. I think our first mistake was agreeing to be seated outside...was like being exiled to a desolate island, like Napoleon at Elba. It was a full hour before we were served anything, during that time we had considered leaving a couple of times. We should have known something up when 20 minutes after placing our order, the server returned to tell us that she had JUST put the order in and was told that the special which my wife had ordered was no longer available. In the meantime, the couple seated in the adjoining island next to us had voiced a couple of complaints as well, causing the woman to go inside the restaurant to rectify the situation. I went inside to order a beer from the bar. A couple that had entered just before us, seated at the bar, were FINISHED with their meals. We saw them leaving the place before any of our order appeared. I had just gone inside to ask to be moved inside, when our server appeared with our Sugar Shack Poutine appetizer, which was excellent.....the highlight of the meal. Awhile later, our meals appeared. The burgers, which my daughter and I ordered were very good. My wife's substitute meal, a chicken sandwich....was so-so...easily bested by Chick-Fil-A. My daughter's fiancee ordered steak tips....couldn't eat the vegetables as they were still hard, woefully undercooked. Here's the kicker....the upcharges. When ordering the steak tips, he was told there was an upcharge if he wanted twice-baked potato, or something of that sort. He declined, opting for the mashed and vegetables which the menu clearly stated came with the tips. After reviewing the bill later, there was an additional dollar charged for the barely cooked veggies. My wife and daughter both asked if they could substitute a salad for fries.....were simply told that they could, NO problem. When the meals were served, both plates came with fries AND salad. It was presented as though it was our lucky day. Not so fast....we were charged $2.50 per salad on the bill. There was NEVER a word about upcharges for this when ordering. So....if time is not an issue, you don't mind hidden charges, and you're okay with half of your food being good, this is the place for you. Otherwise....go to the burrito cart next door. read more

Great experience. Upstairs and downstairs pub style. Sat upstairs and enjoyed the wings (adobo bourbon flavor) and the Steak tips in a bourbon glaze. Typical pub fare but high quality. The #1 sign this place is good is that it's always busy! As far as drinks, old fashioned with top shelf bourbon and then followed up with local craft breweries. Some fantastic IPA's such as conehead and fiddleback. If you are in Burke, this is the spot to visit after the slopes. read more

OMG! What a find! My brother and I found this gem on Yelp and we were floored! Can you say, "Damn Good!?" Bartender Justin made the best recommendations for drinks, apps and food and, boy, did he nail it! Please try the Maple Old Fashioned cocktail, the Man Candy pork belly plate and the best damn meatloaf I've ever had. But wait, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Sugar Shack Poutine - must try this too. We had excellent seared tuna, Switchback draft beer, carrot cake dessert. The only thing I can't recommend is the tap water--it had a weird well water odor. Otherwise, sitting outside was wonderful and the service was great. read more

UPDATE - 7/6/2015 They seem to have gotten some of the kinks worked out and have a much more balanced menu. I haven't been back yet, but their online menu looks A LOT better. Veggie burgers, nachos and a quesadilla that could be made sans meat. I'll definitely give this place a shot next time I'm in town. It's great that this space is filled with someone who cares, and they are continuing to make better food, serve great beer, and make East Burke a better place. ORIGINAL REVIEW I love that someone is fixing this place up. I love what little I know about the owner, and I was excited to go here. My complaint is that I couldn't go here because they had exactly one vegetarian menu item. One salad. The pub had more than that, willies had more than that, and so does the tamarack. I will be beyond happy to update this once they put a box of veggie burgers in their freezer or something (anything!) else without meat in it. Fix that and I'll come drink my body weight in beer! I'll definitely go back, and I'm not angry. They are super new, and menus take a while to nail down. I wish them the best of luck and hope to spend a lot of time there in the future. read more
