Over the past ten years, I've hired many contractors for various home projects. This is the first company that has left me looking for additional projects simply because I would hire them again. When it's time to replace my roof, I won't be shopping around. Every time I pull into my driveway, I'm reminded how much they transformed my home. I deserved this. Communication was excellent from start to finish. I worked with Tom Bibeau initially. The quotation and scope of work was professional, clear, and thorough. They contacted me well in advance to schedule the project, kept me informed about the delivery of the dumpster and materials, and consistently let me know what to expect throughout the installation. One of the biggest lessons I learned during this entire process is that the installation crew matters more than the product itself. Tall Pine's crew, led by Dan, was exceptional. There were typically two to five installers on site each day. They were experienced, professional, precise, and respectful of my home. They worked as a coordinated team, cleaned up thoroughly each evening, and even made sure my dog gates were closed before leaving each day (a problem I had with a previous contractor). It genuinely felt like they treated my home as if it were their own. The foreman was organized, communicative, and highly consultative throughout the project. Whenever they uncovered something unexpected, he explained the issue, discussed the options, and walked me through how they planned to correct it along with any associated costs. One example stood out. After removing the old siding, they discovered that an enclosed porch addition had been built using pressure-treated lumber where aluminum trim would be installed. Because pressure-treated wood can react with aluminum over time, they proactively replaced the material with a more appropriate product at no additional cost. I never would have known the difference, but they chose to do it correctly rather than simply covering it up. It demonstrated their experience and attention to detail as well as a commitment to quality. They consulted me on small finishing details like the color of the exterior outlets, dryer vent, and utility fixtures. I didn't realize I'd care about such things until I saw the finished result. The crew arrived on time every morning and worked steadily throughout the day, sometimes even in less-than-ideal weather when conditions allowed. Watching the project unfold gave me a new appreciation for how much preparation goes into a quality siding installation. Removing the old siding, repairing areas as needed, installing house wrap, preparing trim, and carefully finishing every detail required far more work than I had imagined. My installation took approximately two weeks. I have a larger home, the original siding had a significant number of nails to remove, and several days of heavy rain delayed progress. Throughout the project, I was visited twice by the project manager and twice by the owner. They wanted to make sure I was happy with the work, answer any questions, and address any concerns before they became problems. My questions were minor, but each one was treated seriously and resolved promptly. That level of involvement gave me confidence that if a significant issue had come up, it would have been handled just as professionally. At the time of writing, the siding installation is complete. The only remaining items are a few pieces of specialty window trim that were backordered and the gutter installation, which will be completed by a separate crew. Looking back on the entire process, I made the right decision. The product is excellent, but more importantly, I have complete confidence in the people who installed it. For me, that ultimately proved to be the most important part of the project. Final Result: Certainteed Monogram. Color: Deep Mineral

Sean contacted me several times throughout the process and the final cost matched the estimate. Cash clients receive a 10% discount. The Owens Corning roof looks great and is guaranteed not to grow moss. Our old gutters used to clog and overflow during rainstorms. These gutters work great. They left the property clean and did no damage to the front garden. Our cement composite siding was installed 8 years ago and had few cracks. Sean offered to call the company and research the warranty. I highly recommend the company!

I hired Steve Tolmie from Coat of Arms Roofing in April 2021 for a job in Portsmouth NH. He gave a…read morequote of $17K to do the job and asked for half up front. I should have been alarmed when he became very pushy about getting his deposit check. I signed the contract on Friday and told him I would meet him at noon on Monday to give him a check but he kept pushing me to meet him earlier than that. I held my ground, met him at noon, and gave him a check (which he asked to be made out to his personal account, not his professional account.. another red flag). The job was estimated to take 2 weeks and Steve asked me to rent a lift for one month in case bad weather slowed things down. During the first week, Steve never showed up to do any work. I called multiple times to try to figure out when he was coming and his wife told me that he was out quoting other jobs, but that he'd get to it soon. He never did. He showed up for an hour here and there he never stayed for more than an hour and most days he never showed up at all. I continued to try calling after several more days passed, but then my calls started going to a prank recording of Donald Trump. Finally, a month went by and the lift needed to be returned. Steve performed a total of 6 hours of work on an 80-hour job and repaired less than 10% of my roof. I involved my contractor and a city official in Portsmouth to speak with Steve directly and he repeatedly promised that he was coming back to finish but he didn't. Instead, he took off with $8500 of my money (in addition to the cost I paid for the lift) and finally disappeared. I've never heard from him again. My lawyers are now involved and we are filing a claim to recoup my losses. However Steve lives in a trailer in Raymond and we're not sure we will get our money back. While this has been a horrible situation for me, and I feel I've been taken advantage of, I would feel much better knowing that I may help to stop this from happening to anyone else. So please do not hire this man. He lies. He doesn't do the job, and he will take your money. Hopefully someday I will recoup my losses, but I'd love for others to avoid this type of disaster all together. - Jessica, Portsmouth NH

I cannot offer any kind of recommendation for doing business with Kevin Croteau. I called him in September of 2020 after seeing his advertisement on Craigslist for panel shed kits. He had a custom 12'x20' Cedar panel shed that he had built for another customer but told me that the sale had fallen through d/t permit problems. I told him that I needed something bigger and he told me that he could extend that shed to a total of 12' wide 26' long and 9' high. Over the next 30-45 days we met, I looked at the disassembled shed, he agreed to provide two doors for either side of the long walls and that he would raise the roof to a 9' clearance at the base of the pediment (not including roof pitch) and he would provide assembly hardware and detailed instructions for assembly. We further agreed that to keep the cost down I would cover the cost of roof shingles and front "garage door" style entry. We agreed on a price of $6000. I paid it in full. IN FULL. I do NOT have my shed. I have parts of my shed, Kevin delivered the incomplete shed and has given me one excuse after another for why he has been unable to deliver the rest. I have heard about knee replacement surgery, death in the family, unregistered trailers, unavailable trailers, family events...I have heard dates that he promised to deliver the balance of my shed but did not. I have heard NOTHING AT ALL since June 5, 2021, the date that Kevin Croteau, who does business as Universal Wood Structures LLC ghosted me. I have no response, no shed, AND I spent an additional ~$3500 on preparing my property for the assembly of the shed, buying stone, paying laborers, getting permits from my town. So all told I have spent almost $10,000 for which I have got nothing to show except a big hole in my property and an angry husband. As of yesterday I have involved the Attorneys General of the states of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, the Better Business Bureau, and I have an attorney in the wings to step in should Mr. Croteau fail to make this right. I was patient, I was understanding, I met every part of my obligation to him in our agreement. Mr. Croteau failed utterly. There are other complaints against him at the Better Business Bureau. I wish I had done better research before handing my money over to this business.
