I solicited quotes from five roofing contractors to replace our 24yr old roof this spring. Four of the five contractors used the same materials and were pretty close to each other in pricing within $500 to $1000; the fifth used Owens Corning and was 2X the price of the other four. So aside from the ridiculously expensive outlier, what it all boils down to is reputation and personal engagement by the contractor. I feel that Tom McAndrew, owner of Queen City Roofing is a straight shooting, no nonsense guy that confidently knows his business and what it'll take to replace your roof. Tom stands on his reputation in the business and is comfortable listening to what your questions and/or thoughts are, without ever making you feel uncomfortable. Once the materials were decided, a prompt work date was set and kept. A team of 6 workers showed up on the agreed upon date and time and promptly secured tarpaulins around the perimeter of the house to protect the landscaping and house from falling roof shingles. By 10AM all of the old roof was removed and inspection of the roof plywood base was underway before the application of new materials. Ground cleanup was continuous all day. With this hardworking team, the roof was completed by 5PM the same day! Less than an hour later, after picking up and packing up, the surrounding yard and walkways were swept with a magnetic roller to collect any fallen nails and the work was complete. Tom or his son Mike was on site during the work. Peace of mind in a job well done was what remained from the day; that and a 50yr transferable warranty. My mother loves her new roof! We are all happy with the results. Even the neighbors have called her to say how nice it looks! Not only are we blown away with the new roof but are SO impressed with the installation work and professionalism from beginning to end. Tom met us to review the work for getting us an estimate, which was received quickly. Since we were replacing a skylight, he came back to meet us again to go over our needs and we selected the shingles. He sent an updated estimate and upon us confirming the project, a start date was provided. Karen handled the contract & payment receipt efficiently via emails and we were kept informed of the dumpster arrival and project date was confirmed w/ start time & estimated completion time - all completed in a day! I had gotten three quotes and their price was the best by far. Their crew was terrific. They had a team of 6 guys and within minutes of arriving at my house, they were already removing the old shingles. The guys worked hard and were very good at their job. The site supervisor was very professional and constantly in contact with me with whatever was happening. They roofed my house, detached garage, and large shed. They couldn't quite do it all in one day because my old roof didn't have ridge vents on the house and as a result, 10 sheet of existing plywood delaminated and needed to be replaced. However, they finished on the second day, including a new ridge vent on my house. And when they were finished, the clean up was immaculate. You wouldn't even have known that they were there, except their sign was in my front yard and the new roof was on my house. 50 year warranty, architecture shingles, great installation and by far the best price. I have to admit I was very apprehensive about replacing the roof on my expanded cape. Such large projects can be noisy, invasive and unending. But the fall rains and winter snows weren't far off so one day I contacted Queen City Roofing. Tom, the owner, called me right away and we set up an appointment. He arrived promptly, described the process, and gave me a competitive and reasonable quote. Less than two weeks later, a large team arrived between 7-7:30 AM and began work. They were fast, efficient, and friendly. The yard was also kept neat at all times. Some time after lunch, I ran some errands for a few hours. When I returned one of Tom's sons announced they were almost finished. BIG smile on my face. Then I looked up at the roof and my smile got bigger. It looked awesome ! Better than I had hoped. Queen City Roofing is the roofing company I recommend for sure. They were the 4th roofing company I tried to get to do my two roofs. I think the other companies were too intimidated because one of my buildings is an octagon style. Whatever the case I am glad I ended up with Queen City Roofing. They were 100% professional in every aspect and with their large talented crew, they were in and out same day (40 square, 2 buildings) even working a few extra hours to finish it up that day. The final result was two great looking roofs that I saw first hand have more than adequate Ice and snow rubber underlayment placed underneath the shingles, which should alleviate the previous problems that the previous roofing company created by not using Ice and snow at all. Tom and his crew did a top notch job installing my new roof. 4,000 sq ft colonial, 39 square of Certainteed shingles and they stripped, prepped, installed and did final clean up all in one day. The guys on the crew are super nice and very hard working. What I really appreciated most was communicating with Tom during the quote process. He is very responsive, quick to email and text and came to my home several times to deliver roof material samples. I also appreciated the thorough clean up afterwards. Tom spent a lot of time with us in person and through e-mail answering all our questions. He provided a list of completed projects so we could decide on a roof-over vs. a strip and re-roof. Queen City has a really hard-working crew. They showed up right on time and finished the project in one day - new roof and skylight replacement. They removed some clapboards to do some flashing in a problem area where roof meets siding and even did some paint touch up after they replaced the clapboards. Nice job of cleaning up. Great job. Tom communicated very well through the process and fit us in with winter starting. Mike lead a crew large enough to finished our 2600 sq ft roof in one day including replacing 81 sheets of plywood on a 7° day. I do all my own work with a few friends including this roof 18 years ago but did not have the time to replace the entire roof. I was concerned hiring someone else that I would not be happy with the results but they did a great job. I am recommending them to multiple friends in need of roof work. I needed to replace my house's old roof. They were on time for the estimate and answered all my questions. The written proposal was clear and succinct. They did the job promptly and professionally. We had some scheduling adjustments at the last minute due to weather but they kept me informed. They cleaned up everything. I didn't find so much as one stray old nail. The roof looks great. They took care of registering me with the shingle manufactures warrantee (GAF). A couple things proved easier than they may have thought initially and the final bill was $200 LESS than the quote.
