This is a sad excuse for a TJ Maxx! I love love TJ Maxx and love myself a good deal on cute clothes and home items, but this is one in Alameda is more of a dirty garage sale that you would drive past and never think twice. The whole place is a mess, from the sales floor to the dressing rooms and the bathroom was the worst. With a smell that reeks of pee and sticky floors, no wonder no one wants to go clean it and pick up the over flowing amount of paper towels all over the floor. The staff is very rude and not helpful, as they all talk by the register when there is a long line with only one cashier. I'm disappointed because I was so excited to see a TJ Maxx in Alameda when I moved, but I'll be sticking to Target now. read more

I am rating this T J Maxx store in relation to all of their other stores at which I have shopped in NY, LA, the Bay Area, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Reno. This T J Maxx is okay as far as having a decent selection of stock, but it is nothing to write home about. The staff is nice, but they are so SLOW at the register. Even the supervisor at the register missed some items that I was returning after Christmas. If I had not re-approached the register to make another purchase that night, some sun glasses that I had returned but had not received credit for would have never been credited back to my card. Thus, pay attention to what you are being charged for and what is credited back to you. The night manager is excellent and provides some of the best customer service that I have received anywhere. I purchased a snowboarding jacket for which their was no tag and no other jacket like it, so he gave me the same price that was on another jacket on the same rack. When he was removing the security tag at the register he noticed that the original tag had been tucked underneath the security tag. The official price was $30 dollars higher than he was going to charge me, but he wanted to clear out the ski wear so he still allowed me to purchase it at that price since we had agreed on it prior to him finding the original tag. I genuinely appreciated him keeping his word. I had only interacted with him on that one occasion, but when I returned a few nights later he remembered me on sight. For these reasons, I will shop here again. However, if you want a superior T J Maxx shopping experience I suggest you check out their stores in Moraga...their clothing store and their Home Good store...both in the same shopping center but at opposite ends. They are fabulous and worth the trip out to Moraga. read more

This TJ Maxx gets an extra store for size. Otherwise its the same general 3 star experience I usually give. Considering you are shopping for bargains the fact that this store seems a little less picked over and much larger gets it a +1! You do have to drive across Alameda to the large shopping complex on the water to get here. However, if you like TJ Maxx or similar stores it's worth a trip. If you already live in the area then it should be on your list. read more

My boyfriend found three ties he liked here for cheap. I was disappointed to find no decent dresses for myself. I brought Dango in and kept him close by even though boyfriend said not to. Nobody said anything! Bought three ties with dog in tow. read more

Ok, usually I hate stores like this - I like to go in, find my size and get out. None of this searching shit. - but I think this TJ Maxx deserves a little love. For once, they actually had what I was looking for, in more than one size, and right there on the rack that said the size I was looking for. No digging! Hooray! Usually I love TJ Maxx........as long as it's the one in San Mateo or Orinda, but after great anticipation, the wind is gone from my sails! The clothes they have in here are similar to what the old Ross store had...crap! Honest to God, at least 2 pair of shoes that I tried on had completely been worn, and then returned.....BACK TO STOCK! They had worn soles and filthy dirty insides! GROSS! And I'm sure it wasn't a theft sort of thing because they had brand new/clean price tags on them! Anyway...the jewelry counter is great, but everything else is of the lowest quality......Do they know what kind of spending the women in Alameda are capable of if presented with better quality name brand merchandise? The store manager STEVEN B. has attitude issues. I have no idea how he got that position. I shop here regularly since I live close by, but I won't be shopping at tj Maxx due to today's experience. I had to call the company to have my issue resolved and it shouldn't be this way. I think keeping the customers happy is a manager's priority. This guy never smiles, never said hi or said thank you. That's why more and more companies are closing due to poor customer service. When I asked him to give me the company number he told me to look at the wall, I asked him to write for me since I don't have paper and pen, he just gave me a paper and pen to write it myself. Seriously who hired this guy? Making tjmaxx look like a joke! If they keep hiring ppl like STEVEN B, soon enough this company will be shut down, just like walmart, macys, etc. read more

Absolutely without a doubt TJ Maxx carries the best shoes around for at least half the retail price including Coach and Michael Kors shoes. Many of the designer purses are made in Italy...need I say more. My first handbag purchase was an Andrew Marc handbag for $300 retails for $650. I was hooked. I only buy my shoes and purses at TJ Maxx. Then wait till you get to their bath/towels......unbelievable quality towels and designers. I also must mention their absolutely fabulous gourmet foods and their excellent variety of soaps. I have found some of the best label clothing, but this part may take over an hour as you really have to pay attention and know your labels. Also check the fabulous jewelry!!! The only negative is that I can't stay out of that store. This is not The Dollar Store or Ross so don't be surprised at the prices, but remember this store has all quality items...,even furniture!!! read more

-went after a very dramatic afternoon -needed to have traffic die down before i hit the road home to the boonies -decided to buy myself something to commemorate the tragic event that just happened that afternoon so i go to this store -i've only been to the tj maxx in morgan hill once, and bought houndstooth slacks during the holiday season back in 2003 lol -but anyway, was searching and searching....what could i possibly spend my fucken money on in this store -jewelrey section was cool but kinda not feeling the bling that day, did not represent my mood -searched for shoes and thought hey, these plastic flats would be so cool when it rains but then what the fuck am i gonna do with another pair of shoes? ggrrrr i was on my 165'th already (current count is now 167) -i picked out a few clothing items but did not fit me right -the lady was so anal about the handicap fitting room even tho i didn't see any customers with the need -i walk around and around, searching and i finally find it -it, is a patent leather blood red bag from italy on clearance, originally 250 something, they were selling it for 150 but on clearance for 108 or some shieyt like that -noticed there were some silver markings all over the bag and i was rubbing it praying "come the fuck off come the fuck off" and it did, just gotta love real patent leather -that day, every clearance item was an additional 25% off! score! -went to pay, the back cashier obviously seemed bothered while on the phone. could he just have found out his girl was cheating? -he gets off the phone and i remind him it's an additonal 25% off and i pay, bout 87 bucks tax already in there, fucken ey -needed to use the restroom where i was told was inside the employee only doorway -restroom was caca, but glad to use it since my bladder was fully distended -i walk out the door and i beep, the kid at the register forgot to remove the "i am stolen" sensor -the cashiers in the front helped me and were really nice =LISTEN TO ERICA BADU'S BAG LADY(and remember my bag was blood red) read more

I never give Reviews a one but here i had to settle. Very unorganized store with bad quality items. Its also way to much like ross which they already have and i dont really like those type of stores. They could have made it something diffrent like a target or macys or SOMETHING. Its a very cluttered store and they say every week new designers fashions come in but everytime i come i see stuff thats weird and hideous. The need to up the style a lil. yes I am going to go there - I will name names To start I am a self professed maximista - no shame, if anything I have great clothes, and home decor and it hasn't not cost me my home - I shop within my means. I enjoy shopping at EVERY TJ Maxx with 75 miles - and there are quite a few Agreed this store is messy - but I still like it. For some reason I always seem to leave with a new jacket - something between outerwear and a blazer, there is always a rack that speaks to me. In the home shop (if I can get through the aisles and inspect for breakage) I am always rewarded with a great find Agreed the lines to pay are inefficient - but this is the price I am willing to pay when I am not willing to pay the full price. To me it is worthwhile trade off, because it really is just a few extra minutes..... and the upside are the staff - they do try, and they are pleasant So why the 1 star, two reasons - there is no lower rating, and the manager Tim. Tim is horrendous and takes great pride in being demeaning and offensive and dismissive. He hides behind this phrase "corporate policy" Tim my man be careful if all it takes to be a manger is to regurgitate corporate policy you have grossly devalued the position and title. ANYBODY can memorize and spout chapter and verse. Managers are managers because they are supposed to have the maturity and smarts to exercise discretion, and flexibility. They are trusted with more then just keys to the store - they are AGENTS of the company, and they are empowered to represent TJ Maxx's position in regards to customer service. Showing little interest in your customer's requests , but then gleefully getting "dirt" on another store that you can report is not professional, or mature, it is just creepy. And what is it with the culture you foster at your store - why is it Alameda vs Moraga, you need counseling. Tim keep your wrinkled up money in your pocket. Offering to give a customer money out of your personal funds to quell their frustration is insulting, and probably against that corporate policy you so love to hide behind. I know that it is against policy to advocate skipping ringing a discount through the register . Perhaps you don't think its "shrinkage" if you cover the discount with your own money - slippery slope Tim, that is like keeping two sets of books. Lastly STAY IN THE STORE, its bad enough that you argue with your customers, but stalking them as they leave the store, cross the street, into the parking lot and to their car, the whole way pressing and prodding your point is harassment. You have set a deplorable example for your employees, and you have embarrassed and sullied TJ Maxx. What follows are strong words,but I stand by them. I will let everybody know of my experience with YOU and I will not return to this store until I learn that you have been removed. BY FAR THE WORST experience I have had in a long time. I hate to give bad reviews but the manager deserves for everyone to know what kind of jerk he is and I will be writing to corporate as well letting them know what kind of baboon works for them. So I am waiting in line and have a dress in hand with a clearance sticker. I love the dress and have a wedding the next night and invested 15 of trying it on so I go to buy it. The lady at the back of the store removed the plastic devise and when she does a whole appears. She asked me if I wanted a discount and I simply said "Yes". I had already stood in line at the fitting room and at the register and thought for all my time, heck ya! An extra $3.00 would be chill. She said "Ok, you will need to go stand in line at the front so they can approve".... I say ok and walk up there (little did I know it would be ANOTHER 15 min). So I stand in line and get up to the new teller and he tells me he cannot discount the dress cause it was on clearance. I tell him it did not have the whole till she removed the sensor and I have waited in line and wasted 45 min. this far and would like to speak to someone else. Well she said no and asked me "Do you still want the dress". I say yes and am furious because all this wait and hassle and I DIDN'T EVEN ASK they recommended. So as I am leaving I run into the manager and simply tell him the story of the wait and tell him his staff recommended I ask simply because when she removed the sensor it caused a whole and it was the very last and I was going to wear regardless but it was just simply her telling me to go to the front and both saying no. I am calm and as friendly as it gets and told him just like this "My point is just to have your staff not waist time from the get go if staff can't give a discount and I wasted 45 min. and spend over $100 on other items and he said like this NO JOKE "That's your fault for wasting time. Not mine, what do you want from me". WTF..... I don't know who this man who was around 45 Hispanic with dark hair is but I DON'T LET ANYONE talk to me like that let alone a TJ MAXX college drop out trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents. TJMAXX you lost a customer and I continue to spread your horrrrrrrible customer service and disrespect and negativity to my local family, friends, the neighborhood watch, my church, a message board on our community website and will be writing in to corporate to let them know how RUDE and what a joke you are. I went into TJ Maxx with an open mind. I left TJ Maxx with four blouses for the price of one mid range blouse ($67 plus change!). Some of the names I know (Max Studio, Tweeds, Marc Ecko.). Other names I don't know. At least the store looks cleaner than other TJ Maxx stores I have visited in other cities (L.A.'s King and Crenshaw, for instance. Yuck!). Lots of parking out front, but this little shopping complex can get crowded on the weekends so it might be hard to find a spot close by. A typical TJM, I understand there are some good pickings for purses and luggage (SwissGear, Nautica, etc.) here. It's not the biggest TJM around, but it serves Alameda well. The quality of merchandise here seems to be a little higher than the nearby Ross. Finding something you like is always a hit or miss at these places. I much rather went to a Nordstrom Rack instead. The junior's section did not look like it was for junior's, for women's was more like it. I'm really picky when it comes to clothes. Yes, it's a discount store, but I've found some nice things here at great price! Today, I was looking for a basket to make gift baskets for raffles and silent action I am running for my non-profit group, West Coast Boxer Rescue. Since the craft store in the mall didn't have any decent baskets, I decided to check out TJ Maxx. When I was younger, shopping was one of my favorite thing to do. Well, not so much anymore, as I tend to be always in a hurry and want to get in and out of the store ASAP these days. However, I do have a weakness still -- I like All-Clad pots and pans at discounted prices, and I knew TJ Maxx has them once in a while. So I checked out the section... and there it was, a 3 quart sauce pan with a lid for $99 -- this is a $250 retail pan. Just to make sure, I scan the barcode with Amazon price check app on my phone, and sure enough, Amazon has it, but even with their discounted price it's still $225. I opened the box to make sure all parts were in, and no major scratches, etc. and it's in a perfect condition! I could not be happier. I found some large dog toy baskets in the pet section that I could use for the auction/raffle items. They were less expensive than the cheap looking baskets at Beverly's, so I was very pleased. The line at the cash register wasn't long, so I got out of there with all my purchases pretty quickly. A happy shopper here. read more

On Sunday, October 24, 2010, I went into the above noted TJ MAXX location seeking a gift bag. The associates were not very helpful so I requested to see a manger. I was given "Anthony" as the manager. I had two items in my hand and said I needed a bag to fit the items. He said that the bags were in the "Home" section. I asked, "Do you have bags." He said he didn't know. I asked, "Who would have that information as I have been by the home section and it wasn't clear to me if there were bags located there." He said that no one can tell you if there are any bags. Anthony took me to the "Home" section that I had gone to previously and said, "If there are any bags they are over here." I told him this section is a mess and I didn't want to sort through all this stuff for a bag. I said, "This department store not a flea market". Anthony told me, "Kohl's is around the corner." This was the absolute worse customer service I've ever received. The "Home" section was mess, and the manager was unhelpful and rude. Consumers have many choices in selecting places to spend their money. As Anthony pointed out, Kohl's was around the corner, and at this mall so is Ross, which is where I went to make my purchases. This matter needs to be addressed immediately. I neither deserved, nor appreciated being disrespected. As a consumer I have a right to receive respectful and helpful service. read more

Lost 2 stars because of the type of encounter I had with a cashier. Asked him what my total was, either he was new, did not care or just does not know how to read- he could not tell me my total, he simply told me, it'll show you once you swipe your card. This is one of my clothes shopping stores, sometimes they don't have much choices of men, at the Alameda location but often times I do find something I like. They also have head phones, smartphone things, travel items, and household items. Things here are cheaper and I don't really care for brands, but is a score if I find something like Nike, Levis Jeans, CK clothes. read more

Wasn't really feeling this location. They get an extra star for neatness and a another star for the convenience of being at south shore center in alameda. Everything is in order and labeled clearly, they have a register towards the front entrance as well as the back towards Kohls. Maybe I came in when the inventory was low but I didn't leave with anything except for some really cute wine glasses and a journal. Will probably come peruse again when I'm bored or passing through south shore. read more

associates are great and helpful! you find deals and steals! weekends are the best times to go. they usually have a ton of different items that wont last long on the shelf. you gotta grab it right away! if you get hungry, food trucks are waiting outside by the beach waiting for you. lots of other stores too if you can't find what you're looking for. Yes this location is organized and clean but the selection of clothes & shoes is really terrible. I live nearby and go in often since I keep hoping it will be different. Nope. I'm not sure why it's such a bad selection but I'm hoping the management will see this and possibly make changes. I mean, it's not a huge store but to only have like 15-20 pairs of pants in my size to choose from is no bueno. I've come in at times and there were hardly any pants appropriate for work other than off brands or weird styles. Shoe selection isn't good either. It's a bummer because I love TJ Maxx & Marshalls and am all about discount shopping. This location just isn't one of the best if you want to buy clothes & shoes. read more

This place is a freaking hell hole!!! I love TJMaxx back home on the East Coast. I have shopped at many of their locations either in NYC, Long Island, or in Vermont. Since I had a weight limit while traveling to school on the West Coast, I hoped to be able to have picked up some essentials at TJMaxx. Ignoring the horrible reviews on yelp, I decided to drive to Alameda and give this store a try. BIG MISTAKE!! First of all, I went on a Saturday afternoon. I understand that shopping on Saturdays can be tough, however, at TJ MAXX?!?! WHAT?! I did not have a moment's peace! Literally everywhere I turned there was someone either blocking me, on my tush, under my arm, or pushing into me. How can a discount store be SO crowded?! I had a particularly bad experience in cosmetics and in intimates. I went to cosmetics to buy my favorite charcoal products for teeth whitening. When passing the deodorants, I was blocked by three idiot teenagers opening products who had no consideration for other shoppers. Since the brats stunk of BO, I figured they needed to look at the deodorants and perfumes A LOT more than I did. IRONY much?! There's also an entire middle section of already opened and broken cosmetics. EWWWW!!! Seriously?! How can they sell that stuff?! Even at a discount, it's unsanitary and unprofessional! I finally made it over to intimates after escaping Dante's 7th circle of hell in cosmetics. What I most needed was a bathrobe in order to secure privacy while walking down my dorm's co-ed hallway shower-bound. Everything between nightgowns, pjs, and robes were all mixed up. When I asked a TJ maxx employee where to find a bathrobe, he said "they're all mixed in around here somewhere.' UM...WHAT?! That is so disgusting!! He admitted that the store was disorganized. Also, why did the two crappy bathrobes hat I did find smell??! Needless to say I had to look elsewhere. Finally I made my way over to shoes. I found a great pair of Dolce Vita heels that I intended to wear to my program's final banquet. However, the tags attaching the higher end shoes had been broken off. I'm glad I was able to locate the other size 7 shoe. Some of the shoes were mixed up in sizes. Unacceptable. Lastly, I needed an umbrella. It took several tries with staff inquiries before I found out where they were: in luggage! There was a very limited selection. Umbrellas and beachwear bags are hidden in the labyrinth over there. I found any old decent umbrella for my West Coast trip and then decided to get the heck out of the horrible experience! Finally it was time to check out! The cashier asked me if I wanted to buy a TJmaxx bag for 10¢, but I suppose that's a California law, so I can't hold that against them. The purchasing portion wasn't so bad. That's why I'm not giving the store one star (although I REALLY want to and probably should since it's SO HORRIBLE!) Hopefully I will never have to go back. I highly suggest this store cleans up its' act. I know a lot of families with unruly children shop there/ destroy things. However, the store is still disgusting and needs to be fixed. read more

Unfortunately my least favorite Tj Maxx. The selection is very sad. Some parts of the store are ok, but the majority of the store is messy and dirty. The clearance in particular, is kind of a slap in the face. An item can be extremely broken, but they are still selling at full price.
