I feel like the stores are a lot more clean and organized than the stores near us and they have good options with good prices. Super rude from 9:10pm on. Loud yelling over the speaker to stop shopping and check out...20 minutes before closing! The manager (I'm guessing) with long brown hair was stomping around and very rudely told us we had to leave. At 9:20pm. Strange and irritating. We shop TJ quite a bit. Management was extremely rude to staff openly. I was in line at checkout and watched this woman who I assume is a manager scold the cashier in front of everybody. It really made the whole experience uncomfortable as a shopper. I feel as if the staff fails to realize how the way they treat their employees sets the tone for the customer as well. This is far from the first time I've seen this happen, and when it does, it's always her. Disappointing experience and incompetent management make for a consistently awkward experience. The managers at the store play games with pricing. They have their staff put everything in the post holiday markdown section and then when you get up to check out, they tell you which items are and are not included. Who has time for this? The manager stands behind the counter in the center, and the checkout people have to walk back-and-forth, asking which items to include. She's making a distinction between winter items and holiday items. It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever watched, when this manager is telling you what wrapping paper is included and not included in yet it was in the markdown bin. They obviously don't care about this review on yelp or anyone's review because they already have less than four stars, which is absolutely pathetic. This store is huge and always has great deals, but management needs to be educated with better methods to communicate, adress, and treat customers. To be more specific Lisa, the front register key holder or manager has always had the worst attitude with dealing with simple questions about items. I can't believe someone with that attitude is even a manager representing the face of the store. I asked if an item could be discounted because it was damaged and she came up to the employee stating "ok what am I looking at? What's this?" In a very demeaning manner. All while never asking me directly what my question was Or Introducing herself Not even acknowledging me as the customer Very rude and poor behavior Every single time I shop at this location it's the same attitude. If an employee ever asks her a question regarding a customer concern, she comes over with the same energy towards the employee and makes it seems like someone is doing something wrong instead of providing customer service and fair judgement. It would be nice to feel welcomed to shop in the store and not have managers that are micro managing employees and speak to customers with respect. The employee taking care of my transaction had to apologize for her behavior on her behalf of how embarrassed they were about the situation. read more

This TJ Maxx is the mothership. It's amazing. Just go there. The staff are lovely. Truly. Have fun shopping and getting lost. One of my favorite places to shop when I need inspiration, something different, or just a great quality product at an awesome price. I have found beautiful home decor, quality bedding, super cute kids clothes, etc. I also like to stop by here around the holiday season because it's always full of different types of gifts. I would walk the aisles looking for that gift for that one person that you just don't know what to get. I have been lucky so far and was able to find a gift for those particular people. :) Overall, great stuff, good service, clean store. read more

Oh gosh despite my love for shopping here, I absolutely have no choice but to give a one star review due to an encounter I had, twice, last week. I ended up having a negative encounter with the most unprofessional coordinator I've ever met, named Lisa G (according to her badge she is a coordinator). Her unwelcoming and irritable attitude threw me off completely, more than twice already but I will only write upon the last two encounters I've had with her. The first encounter included me greeting her in a friendly way by saying hello and in return, I received a deafening, arrogant silence. Being fed up with rude customer service at this point, I exclaimed, "That's it?", genuinely confused for her dismissive attitude when I was being polite. I placed my only item on the checkout table and she gave me the stink eye as she looked surprised I only had one item to purchase. The second encounter occurred four days later. This Lisa character was still upset, apparently, as I refused to buy a just one .99 cent bag for my items. She rudely exclaimed with a snotty tone and I quote, "I am not going to give you more than 3 bags..." as if I can carry ten items in one small bag. She proceeded to squish my $200 dollars worth of merchandise into 3 small bags, which caused my items to spill over and fall out. The only thing TJ Maxx is consistent in providing to its customers, besides a delightful shopping experience, is hiring incompetent employees such as Lisa G. One thing Lisa G. is consistent in will be driving customers away from this store location if she keeps up that crappy attitude. No one with self respect is going to tolerate that type of treatment and service. Hiring people who are arrogant in nature, is doing this franchise such a disservice and granting this pleasant store a negative reputation. Do you even screen your employees? I wrote to corporate about this, but I'm really sick and tired of people bringing their dogs to this store. I've witnessed a bulldog slobbering and leaving wet spots all over pillows and products on a bottom shelf without the owners even caring they were ruining products for someone else. Then yesterday, two dogs were fighting in the store! Barking and snarling and frankly, scaring nearby customers. Keep your stupid animals at home people. Dogs do NOT belong in stores unless they are certified service dogs for the blind/deaf or disabled. Leave your pet at home. It's rude. It's insensitive and I'm shocked TJMaxx puts up with it. Customers can't enjoy their shopping trip with snarling animals, animals drooling on things you wanted to look at. Not to mention if people have allergies are real fears of dogs. Nothing special but I sure do like that I don't have to drive down Hwy 101 to Rohnert Park or Novato to find this kind of thing. This is basically another Ross store (only the prices a bit higher), and there is a HomeGoods store attached to it. I know there was a lot of controversy about this shopping center because people thought it would take away fro downtown shops. So far, from what I have seen in TJ Maxx, this isn't the same type of stuff that they sell downtown. This saves me from having to drive to the Rohnert Park or Novato if I can't find what I am looking for at Ross. When I go shopping for cheap throwaway clothes, I would be heading over to Ross anyways, so this gives me a second option to look out before I buy. I can't really speak to their customer service yet, because this was their first day open and the place was packed. But, so far, it seems like what you would expect. I walked by numerous employees and not a single person asked me if I needed help. But then again, if I wanted good customer service I would be shopping at Macy's or Nordstrom's so I can't complain too much. Now that the street construction is over, they don't seem to have done that bad of a job. Yes, there is congestion getting in and out of the parking lot, and this is adding to congestion between the east and west side of town...but, I never drove to the east side before anyways, other than to go to Kmart or Ross. So, now when I am heading that way, this gives me an extra place to stop and check out clothes and stuff for the house. Keeping all that in mind, I will still shop the downtown shops first before spending my money at a company that isn't based in Petaluma, BUT, when I do have to spend my money outside of downtown, I'd just assume spend it at a store in Petaluma. read more

I'm surprised the store has such low ratings. This is probably the nicest TJ Max that I've been in (aside from size). The two employees that I encountered were very friendly and the dressing rooms are surprisingly nice and spacey! I almost took a picture of the decor outside the dressing rooms but didn't want to risk getting in trouble. The only drawback was that it was on the small side so they don't have tons of racks of clothes. Everything was neat and clean and since it is small it was very easy to find things and doesn't take long to go down all the isles. read more

More than a year ago I went into TJ Maxx in Petaluma to get a last minute bag of chips. I reached in to pull the bag out, and noticed that the bottom of the shelf was COVERED in mouse droppings. I asked a clerk if I could please speak to a manager, and a young woman came to ask me how she could help. I pointed to the crap covered shelf. She seemed confused and didn't immediately understand what I was talking about. I explained to her what all of the little black dots were and she said that the shelves are cleaned weekly and they would all be gone soon. Judging by the amount of dropping and urine on the shelf, it hadn't been cleaned in months, and they had a HUGE infestation of mice. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, the first time I've been back since last year. I go to a shelf for some pasta, and again the shelf is covered in mouse feces and urine. I randomly walked around the store and checked a few more shelves, and all were exactly the same. Nothing looked like it had been cleaned since I was there a year ago and was much worse now. I left in disgust. So today I find out through a friend that the Sonoma County health department did a surprise inspection and shut them down. At least that portion of the store selling food. I drove by a few hours ago and confirmed that they were busy filling up the dumpsters with all of the food items from the store. I hope the parent company of TJ Maxx (TJX Companies) sees this and understands the seriousness of how poorly the management has handled this situation. Today they lost tens of thousands of dollars in inventory, and for at least the last year their managers have been aware of the problem and completely ignored it, putting the health of customers at risk. Hantavirus is real, it's from mouse droppings, it's airborne, and it's deadly. Personally I will never shop there again, and will advise everyone I know to avoid their stores. read more

Customer service is horrible when returning an item from another TJ Max or Homegoods store. If you don't have their tags then they'll give you a hard time returning even if you have a receipt. The store was fine - but the line took 20 minutes. I have a service dog, so am visibly disabled. After 5 minutes I had to start sitting on the ground, scooting forward, because otherwise I would have passed out. Asked 2 people in line to help me, they said no. That's not on TJ Maxx. But, the cashiers could See me on the floor, with my head down trying to not pass out - and they did Nothing. When I finally got to the front of the line I told the cashier I was disabled, and next time could I put my cart in the corner, mark my space, and sit down until it was my turn - and the cashier was So incredibly pissy and offered me Nothing! She just said "nope, there's only one line". I asked to speak to a manager, and she said there weren't any nearby so I'd have to wait. Again. Standing up. It was horrible and just all around disgusting to treat a disabled person this way. I wasn't asking to go first, or cut in line, or anything like that. I was shopping today and overheard a couple talking as they came into the store, and the MAN said, "wow this is probably the nicest tjmaxx I've ever been in," then, "I'll be in the men's section if you need me" to his wife, I love it!! I wish my husband would get excited whenever we go to tjmaxx because I Love This Store, I'm totally obsessed and I wish I had gotten that credit card years ago because I pretty much shop exclusively at tjmaxx and marshalls and the rewards points add up really fast. Love the clearance section, just a little bummed out today since my tidepods ruined an awesome hot pink pair of Escada sweatpants that I got in the clearance section for like $5 and literally just had hemmed (hem cost more than the pants!), but I guess that just means more shopping in my future ;)) Anyway I'm really happy that they put this nice new TJ's + home goods in, right off the 101 on my way home from work, so easy! Today's score was the most perfect Diane Von Furstenburg nude cami to go under a million see through summer things, a Splendid bra top to match the bottoms which I found on a prior trip, a squeaky stuffed triceratops and some doggy doodoo bags for my puppy, ya know, just the necessities ;) So have fun shopping ladies, AND gents ;))) you never know what they will have that you just can't live without. I don't even know where to start. This store brings me joy only because there are minimal places to shop in Petaluma. Customer service is hot and cold. I guess the reason I'm writing this is because I have spent thousands of dollars here and at times feel like a criminal. I don't always dress up to go shopping and sometimes coming from the gym or with workout clothes. The last time I was there the girl in the dressing room was looking at my shoes as I was in the shoe department prior. As if I switched my shoes. I feel like after a few years they would recognize me and know that I buy here all the time. I was at this store on Saturday, the line was really long. I walked over to the jewelry counter where there were no customers but to cashier standing there chatting and asked if I could pay there. I was told no I had to go get in line, she was very rude! So I put my hair serum back and walked out of the store. I'm kind of surprised that they don't open up their jewelry counter when it gets that busy and help people get through the line faster. Customer service is the key to any successful business and if you don't have friendly people that like their job, that you lose a lot of customers. read more

I find this store hit and miss though I usually can find something to walk out of there with! I find their Juniors section well stocked, my daughter can always fine stuff she "needs". I've been blessed with finding great designer handbags and watches, but feel the Women's department falls short for younger clothing that's mom appropriate without being Juniors style. Boys and Infant Boys could use some better filling though, it always seems sparse. Overall though the staff is kind, the store is always clean and like I said, I can almost always find something! read more

Three stars because the employees at checkout are almost consistently friendly and competent. (The employees on the floor seem a bit stressed aren't particularly friendly with customers.) Two stars for the disarray and difficulty in navigating the aisles without knocking something off or bumping carts with another shopper. As others have mentioned, the shelves and floor have been dirty. I find the best deals in the pet section. I've purchased 3 dog beds that are super cute and have held up nicely. It is fun to browse the kitchen aisles and they have a fairly good selection. I purchased a couple of pretty wooden trays which I still use. Overall, if you're looking for a way to chill on a Saturday afternoon, enjoy looking at off-brand, interesting items and are not in a hurry or concerned about your personal bubble, TJ Maxx is your place! And for all my criticisms, sometimes is it just the place for me. read more
