Atmosphere: Located on a really gorgeous golf course. The bathrooms were spotless and our table was clean, really the whole place was immaculate. I hope you love plaid because you'll be staring at it no matter where you are seated! Service: Our server was really great, super attentive with lots of recommendations. She was super personable. Drinks were quick to arrive and so was our appetizer. Food: The complimentary popovers were delicious, I could eat those until I pass out. The rest of the food was a down hill experience. The cheese curds were fried at too high of a temperature so the breading and cheese were separated. However, the pepper relish served with them is so good. I would buy that by the jar. The lobster ravioli tasted of tomatoes, and that's it. The french fries were under seasoned and the other person I dined with wasn't really gung-ho over their steak, it was lacking seasoning. My experience at TJ's was extraordinary. Such a gorgeous and eclectic dining room, top notch service, and the food is to die for. We were celebrating, and we went all out. They have a great selection of wine. The merlot was great and my boyfriend was obsessed with the Riesling. To start we got lobster bisque and hamachi crudo. The hamachi crudo was seriously the best bites I've ever eaten. I was eating the wasabi Yusuf aioli on my chops sticks by itself! For entrees we had the crispy Peking duck and the Bavette. Both were perfectly cooked, amazing outside crusts, and the sauces were outstanding. The sides were fantastic! The portions were huge. We probably have 2 more meals in our fridge. You must get the bacon cream spinach- I wanted to take a bath in it. The charred Brussels sprouts were soft and crispy. The wagyu tallow roasted potatoes were a little boring- would have like them better if they were smashed and fried, but it's just a classic roasted potato. For dessert we finished off with a bang with the warm butter cake topped with raspberry sauce and vanilla ice cream. The cake was so moist and the coolness of the ice cream was just perfect. I had higher expectations for this establishment. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive at our table. We were told that the bar was experiencing some high volume, despite the restaurant being visibly half empty. The ice in my wife's drink was melted so I assume our drink order was forgotten on the bar. The food was good but seemed to suffer from a general lack of seasoning. The menu is a bit confusing in terms of portion sizes; my wife ordered the lobster bisque which was an individual portion, as expected, but my smoked bone marrow came out on a giant plate and obviously meant for multiple people. We ordered two side dishes with our mains of scallops and beef wellington, as the menu was explained to be à la carte. This is one of the very few times that I will complain about the portions being too generous but the plates were absolutely massive, piled high with truffle parmesan fries and a mountain of crab mac and cheese. Both, lacking salt. Either of which would have been adequate to feed a family of four on their own. I question if we had rather ordered the foraged mushrooms or shishito peppers, they are served in more reasonable quantities. Overall, the meal was fine, but at these prices I would expect a premium experience. When making our reservations I specified that we were celebrating my wife's birthday, which was not acknowledged at all. The restaurant manager could be seen stopping at every table, systematically, asking patrons how their meal was in the most disingenuous demeanor. At the close of our meal, we were too full to even consider an after-dinner drink but had overheard another table being told that the desserts were bought in. These are all decent indications that TJ's is attempting to brand itself as high-end when falling short of hitting the marks. This restaurant seems pretentious, hiding behind high prices and ostentatious menu items. I have to give credit where it's due. I heard mixed reviews on this place so have avoided it for two years. We finally broke down and said we'd try it after hearing good things lately. The food and service were really good. We had steaks of course and they were prepared to our order. The sides were very tasty. Only complaint if there is one is the wine markups are higher than Gibson's in Chicago and some other high end restaurants. But we brought our own special bottle and it was amazing. A HUGE disappointment. TJs Highland Steakhouse is inside the Oshkosh Country Club. That alone should have kept me away. OCC is now semi-private - which means they can't attract enough paid members to be viable, so they have to open up to the public. The decor was modern in the 70's...I think they are going for the Scottish Links kind of vibe...missed by a mile. They are trying to reinvent themselves as a high-end steakhouse (special salt, yadda yadda) - stocking expensive wines...and the selection is good, but I typically go to restaurants for the food. I ordered the Beef Wellington - and it was BURNT! It was so poorly cooked (WAAAAAY overdone) I had two bites and spit it out. I'm not one to make a scene - I figured if the chef sent this out to the table - everything else HAD to suck. We had reservations and dinned early - the service was almost nonexistent...first time in years I almost left a $1.00 tip - but I'm not that much of an ass. $280 bucks later and they will NEVER see me back in that place. Mary and John made our night. This is a 5 star, high end restaurant we have been wanting to try. The chef is from NY and brings something very special to this area. We walked in and were greeted and checked our coats. We had reservations at 6:45 and were a little early. So we went to the bar area and I noticed immediately that the plaid dress I was wearing matched the decor! Golf was invented in Scotland and this was decked out in the Scottish fair. This building used to be private. Attached to the private country club and golf course. Members could rent this space out for events and they have opened it to the public. The restaurant looks at the 18th hole of the still private golf course. Sounds like they are making the golf course semi private in the future. I was told about a specialty drink they were featuring made by pumpkin infused rum. It was warm and delicious! Pumpkin spice buttered rum! Photos attached. We were seated in a cozy round booth. Passing a warm fireplace and enjoying more plaid. Mary came to tell us about the menu and offered suggestions. Warm dinner rolls called popovers came while we fell in love with out goat cheese curds. I ordered the Bavette steak which is Wago and was hands down the best steak I've have ever had. My husband got the roasted chicken and liked the garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken was crispy and moist. I wanted to save room for dessert because they had so many options. I decided on another round of that specialty pumpkin drink again instead. I can't wait to return. What a hidden gem of a great restaurant in Oshkosh. My buddy and I were in town on business and found this restaurant on Yelp. Man I am so glad we did. The food is great and the service is excellent. I had the bacon appetizer and would recommend it highly. I also had the scallops which we were perfectly cooked. My friend had the tuna which was equally as good. For desert we had the butter cake which did not disappoint. I had steak the day before and was disappointed that I could not try it but be rest assured I will next time in Amin town. read more

Anniversary dinner celebration, and this was a wonderful evening meal, lovely setting, good service, well worth it. We recommend reservations, and we were on time but they weren't busy on this Thursday, so we told them we would like to go to the bar first and be seated a little later and they perfectly accomplished this, coming to escort us to our table at the time we requested. Decor is warm and lovely. Table was set and lovely. We started with the warm popovers and butter - so delicious. We began with bacon wrapped scallops that had a delightful blueberry and perhaps a sweet onion sauce you could drizzle on if you chose. The men enjoyed French onion soup, which my husband said was excellent. My entree was the zabuton (means Japanese pillow) which was the most tender and delicious 6oz Wagyu steak - it was so good I woke up the next morning and it was the first thing I thought about! I still salivate thinking about it! I was halfway through enjoying it before I even noticed I had been easily cutting it with my butter knife! My husband had the petite filet mignon, but after a bite of my steak he was jealous. Our friends had the Spinalis Dorsi (12 oz Wagyu) and they both raved about it. We also enjoyed the three cheese au gratin potatoes (VERY rich and creamy), the Brussels sprouts (with bacon and maple syrup), and asparagus. All were enjoyable, but next time I think we need to try the mushrooms! Dessert was cheesecake for my husband, which was a classic dish. I had the banana toffee bourbon cake, which was good but I was expecting more like Connie's Rum cake, an absolutely moist cake everyone in my office loves. The cake was very good, just not what I expected. My girlfriend ordered the Cracker Jack Sundae, which she let me try and I think that was the better dessert. We live full time in Huntington Beach CA. so needless to say we are spoiled with a surplus of amazing restaurants. Purchased a house to visit family in Oshkosh last year. I was devastated to find how few fine dining restaurants there were in this City. I thought a Country Club had to have fine dining so we ventured out to TJ's. I ordered as much as we could eat so we Could test the menu. Crab appetizer was not fried, fresh crap. FANTASTIC Bacon wrapped Scallops, firm not greasy amazing bacon. Brother had the chicken parm and it came out the size of his foot. Portion was well over two serving. I ordered the Sea Bass, which was comparable to Morton's or Mastro's. Out of this world. Decided to try this place based on a friend recommendation. We made reservations for 5:15 so we got there a bit early to sit at the bar and have a couple drinks. The drinks were great the one bartender's personality could have been better. Was irritated when we asked questions. When we sat down for dinner we were greeted by Jess, who was very very friendly and knowledgeable with menu. We started out with the beer battered cheese curds and miso ranch and pepper jelly. They can eliminate the pepper jelly if you ask me. These were a great starter. Hubby got the porterhouse which had amazing flavor and my filet was perfectly charred (which is an option). I asked for medium but the middle was pretty rare. After a couple trips back to the kitchen it was good. I wish there would have been some melted butter on top or some Demi glacé so I took the butter from the complimentary popovers and threw it on top. We went in expecting great things and walked out slightly underwhelmed. The atmosphere and decor are spot on but for the price and the marketing they come up a little short. The meal overall was very good; the steaks lacked seasoning but the meat made up for it. Our appetizers, sides and desserts were all a hit. The service could use a tune up as our waitress was chewing gum the entire time, was forgetful and slow on delivery. If you want to play with the big dogs service is key. I have tried TJ's over and over. The food is nothing less than mediocre. Continually I have had food that was way overcooked. Chicken Parmesan that you couldn't cut with a steak knife. Halibut that was so overcooked that it was chewy. The waiter even said it was way overcooked. A few weeks ago we had the pork chop special. My chop was still oinking, and my dinner companion's chop was so tough, she couldn't cut it. The waitress brought out a different knife for her to try to cut it, and she still couldn't cut it, so the waitress took it out to the kitchen for the chef to cut it. Absolutely ridiculous! Numerous times I have ordered the caramelized brussels sprouts. They are not caramelized at all, they are barely cooked, and hard as a rock. There is no caramelization on them period!!! My last dining experience there was the Thanksgiving buffet which was absolutely terrible!!!!! Everything was overcooked and even the basics like sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes were disgusting. For $48 a person plus tip, for absolutely terrible food is ridiculous. The golden corral has better food than that! I spoke with five different people that went to TJ's for the buffet, and they all said it was terrible. One person thought they got food poisoning. There are better places to eat in Oshkosh at half the price. I don't mind spending $75 on dinner if it's excellent food. This is not excellent quality food. The chef seems to have an awful high opinion of himself. I have had two friends that went to Christmas parties there, and they said the food was mediocre. I don't know how they think they can charge huge prices for awful food? The owner needs to reevaluate his kitchen staff and make the necessary changes. Gave 4 stars only because the service when we arrived was absent. When the busser realized we had been sitting for 10 minutes they were quick to attend when it was brought to their attention. Food was AMAZING. Steaks are a little pricey but worth it. The salad were a meal by themselves and truly fantastic! Best salad in Oshkosh.The side of asparagus was fabulous. We will be going back. We have been to TJ's Highland Steakhouse a half dozen times. The food there is bar none the best in the entire Fox River Valley and possibly the state. I've been to many steakhouses in cities around the US and TJ's bests them all. Their chef was brought in from The Palm restaurant in NYC. TJ's features top quality steaks and seafood served in a Scottish tartan decorated club house overlooking the beautiful Oshkosh Country Club. TJ's is open to the public. It is well worth even a long drive to experience. Meal starts with complimentary fresh made pop-overs with marvelous flavored butter. The salads are all fabulous especially the wedge blue cheese, tomato, bacon, and onion salad is not to be missed and can feed 2-3. The best steaks are the Filet Tenderloin on or off the bone and the Delmonico . The NY strips are great as well. The Filets do not need a knife to cut. They have lobster, halibut, salmon cooked on wood fired planks, and melt in your mouth Ahi tuna. Chicken and locally raised Pork Chops also on the menu along with a vegan option. Large number of sauces and toppings for the steak and baked potatoes. The sides include creamed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, asparagus and a wonderful medley of wild mushrooms. Each side enough for 2-3. Save room for desert as they have great home made ice cream, sorbets, bread pudding, key lime pie and other great deserts. The bar is very nice with wide selection of tap and bottled beers, premium liquor, and a wine selection that would make many of the finest restaurants jealous including wine from TJ's own vineyard. Prices are much less than one would pay in Chicago or New York. They are open for lunch too with a fabulous very reasonably priced menu. I highly recommend the NY strip steak salad or the tuna salad. TJ's is worth traveling to even from afar and it's food is the best arguably in the state of Wisconsin. Take my word for it and make plans to travel to TJ's fabulous steak house. We dined here after a whiskey fest (an outstanding event that also gets five starts from me) that was held in the bar area and we were a party of four. My starter was amazing (I had the crab cake that is almost entirely crab rather than batter like in many other places), my steak (a bone in filet mignon; I didn't even know that exists) with a side of sautéed mushrooms was phenomenal. Dry aged and prepared to perfection with a "crispy" surface and a juicy but not watery interior (got to love dry aged steak). Absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Lots of attention to detail. We made reservations for our anniversary on a Tuesday so maybe going early in the week was a mistake. Our daughter had been there and had a fabulous meal so our expectations were high. Our waitress seemed newer so we excused that but the meal was a huge disappointment. I ordered goat cheese curds that were fine but a bit greasy. I love steak and decided on the bone in rib-eye and AuGratin potatoes and my husband got rib cap. My friend and I split a boring chopped salad. My steak was ordered medium rare and that wasn't too bad but it was full of huge chunks of fat (at least half fat, half meat) and what meat was there was chewy. I've had better steak from Walmart. My husband ordered his rib cap medium and it was completely rare. We didn't complain but should have but then we would have to sit there waiting for our steaks while our friends finished theirs. The potatoes were so over cooked they were like mashed potatoes. The mushrooms and Halibut my friend ordered were very good. All in all for what we paid for such bad food I'm sorry we won't be taking another chance on returning. So sad The view on the patio was very nice. read more
