We stopped at Becket's after Oshkosh, expecting a nice meal to cap off a great trip. Instead, we accidentally participated in what felt like a live kitchen stress test. First, the good news: the atmosphere is beautiful, and our server, Marcus, deserves a raise. He was friendly, attentive, and handled a table full of increasingly confused diners with remarkable professionalism. None of what follows is on him. Now for the food. The mac and cheese was mostly mac with only a passing acquaintance with cheese. My mom ordered the halibut, and I'm fairly certain the chef mistook the salt shaker for a seasoning suggestion rather than a serving size. It was so aggressively salty that we asked Marcus to taste a bite from the untouched side because we honestly thought maybe we were crazy. He took one bite, his face instantly said, "Oh no," and he apologized before offering to replace it. Since the rest of us had already finished eating, my mom just asked for a salad. Somehow... that was worse. The blue cheese dressing tasted like blue cheese that had filed for retirement weeks ago. Vinegary, strange, and just plain off. My half chicken was the smallest half chicken I've ever seen. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the other half of the half. It was cooked fine, but "not ruining chicken" isn't exactly a culinary achievement. My brother's prime rib was... okay. Not memorable, not offensive--just existing. The cocktails joined the theme. We sent two back because they simply weren't good and switched to beer. Thankfully, whoever made the beer knew what they were doing. I completely understand that every restaurant can have an off night. But when the mac and cheese has no cheese, the fish is inedible from salt, the replacement salad tastes questionable, the cocktails get sent back, and the rest of the food is merely surviving, it's hard to chalk it up to bad luck. Five stars for Marcus. One star for the kitchen. If those two teams ever get on the same page, this place could be excellent. **Update:** I want to give credit where it's due. After my wife posted her review on Google, the owner responded very thoughtfully and acknowledged that our table clearly did not receive the attention it should have. We never asked for a refund, and I wasn't expecting anything, but the restaurant refunded the bill and made sure our waiter was still compensated. That doesn't change the fact that the food and drinks that night were really disappointing, but it does say something positive about the ownership. Mistakes happen, rough nights happen, and I appreciate a business that takes responsibility instead of getting defensive. Marcus was excellent, and the owner's response was classy. I hope our visit really was just a bad night, because the way they handled it afterward deserves credit. read more

We made a reservation for 6 PM on a Saturday for four people. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and the ambiance inside is romantic. The waitress Kayla was great and super friendly. She checked on us just the right amount and even asked if we needed water way after paying our bill. The reason for the 3 stars is because my food was lukewarm at best. I ordered the salmon with French fries. The French fries tasted like they were under a heat lamp for 24 hours. My husband had the prime rib and he said it was good. I had a spicy margarita that wasn't great as well. This place has the potential to be amazing. It definitely fell short of expectations. read more

Halibut was absolutely just like wow flavor town!!! Everything was very tasty over all. Personally I thought the Tiramisu and halibut and fish cakes where the way too go just loaded with flavor. The s'more mousse and wagyu were good. But I could eat the halibut every day. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing wasn't overwhelming loud very relaxing. The service was amazing our waitress was a girl named Emily she was very professional, sweet, and friendly she was amazing. Great location along the river with many covered outdoor tables. Hamburger needed much more seasoning, but it was very large (1/2 pound). Note to restaurant-- large burger = much seasoning. My chicken caprese sandwich was very good. The roll was doused with pesto, which was awesome! The fresh mozzarella and tomato slices on the sandwich made it even better. Side of fries was above average. Other diners were so-so satisfied with the salmon salad and creamy clam chowder. Great views, though!! read more

Our first visit this season. We were lured by Happy Hour and a beautiful weather day. The sirloin lollipops were served cold and needed to be redone . The hummus was not good and basically inedible.. it was watery, grainy and not at all smooth. The fresh carrots were the saving grace to that dish. The coconut shrimp were over cooked..yielding dry and rubbery shrimp. The biggest offender was the nacho plate. The cheese was melted over the chips but obviously sat in the kitchen. It was impossible to pick individual chips and a big clump of stale cold melted cheese with a big clump of sour cream that sat on the top . The river setting was great but the appetizers were awful. We had planned to order soup ,salad and a burger but the poor quality of the appetizers turned us off completely... What a shame as we like to support non chain restaurants. The server was very nice and she said she would offer our concerns to the kitchen staff....No one came to discuss this with us or apologize. We will not be returning. read more

This is a very appealing place on the inside with a great view of the water. Their menu covers a lot of bases, so you're likely to be able to find something you enjoy regardless of palate. My review would be a 3.5/5, as the food was decent and the scenery was great. The waitress recommended the Shaved Ribeye Sandwich. It was mediocre in terms of flavor, but my biggest complaint is actually the size of the au jus cup. How on Earth is anyone supposed to fit this sandwich in that cup!? One saving grace was the fish tacos which were awesome! Great flavor, well-cooked. Sometimes they're too dry and sometimes they're too saucy.. this was a good combination. read more

I went here to celebrate a graduation this year with my significant other. As far as oshkosh goes, I would say this is among the better choices. While the building it is located in shows some serious signs of wear, the interior of the restaurant is modern and clean. It was bustling with activity (probably because it was graduation day at UWO, I'm not sure what a typical lunch is like), but we still got immediate seating. The view was great: with lakefront sight lines and the adjacent river, you'll be able to see boat traffic during the warmer months. One aspect I found pretty cool was that there are unique shaped booths with custom made tables to match the booth shape, something that I can't say I've seen everywhere. Starting with the downsides, the bathroom for the restaurant (and this is hoping I didn't miss one that is actually inside the restaurant) was quite a walk away, and was actually part of the multi-use development that houses this restaurant. It was in need of serious updating. The toilet seats, while clean, looked filthy from years of abuse. I found the bathroom to be creepy, but that's not necessarily a fault of the restaurant. Another downside was the "new" fashioned that I ordered. I don't know what all of these restaurants think is new about their "new" fashioneds, but sometimes you need to stick with the tried and true and just make good ol' old fashioneds. I think they tried using maple syrup and bourbon as a substitute in this drink, and I prefer a standard bitters, sugar and bourbon with an orange garnish. Not too big of a deal because I could have ordered that off of the menu. The great thing about this restaurant was the food, and I hope people made it through my babbling paragraphs to see this part, because it really is pretty good. I got a steak salad, which was a mixed green salad with broccoli, bacon pieces, onion, and tenderloin (with some other vegetables my memory fails to remember). It was delicious, well balanced, and large. It pairs well with their vinaigrette. I was delighted to see they have creme brûlée - you'll know I'm a bit of an aficionado if you read my reviews - and it was up to the task. It was made after I ordered because the torched sugar was still warm, had excellent flavor, and was big enough to share. In fact, it was so remarkable that it's the only picture I took of this lunch. So, after all this typing, I would say it's worth trying. Maybe even tell them I sent you - they won't know who I am but it would be amusing anyway. Get to it! read more

Our server (I think his name was Nick) was absolutely incredible! He was so personable, kind, funny and made our meal/experience one to remember. The food was a 10/10 as well. I had the Walleye and the tartar sauce absolutely made the meal for me. Wow. I loved the fresh dill in the sauce. The spinach artichoke dip was the favorite appetizer of the table. I can't say enough about the staff, the ambiance, the view of the Fox River from the time I set a reservation so we would drink, dine and see Janet Planet in this very cool Oshkosh restaurant when Dylan answered early on a Thursday morning to the time we left after Janet finished her gig. The crowd was fun, lively and amazing. I loved the evening, the waitstaff and made me wish I lived in this not so small 'smalltown' atmosphere area where some of my family lives. We ran into others that are friends and sat with us and Tray was happy to serve them drinks and keep everything straight on who owes what. Could not have been a more satisfying evening. I just had a salmon salad: very well done with additions like pepitas and tiny cubes of butternut squash (I thought it was persimmon) in addition to a sizeable piece of grilled salmon. $15. Right on the river, next to a drawbridge. If you are on a budget, check out the daily specials such as all-day happy hour on Thursdays. PS: A free dessert is offered on birthdays to the birthday person. The appetizer for pork belly was a bit pricey for a small portion but didn't think too much of it at first until I ordered the seared duck. It was literally three small pieces of meat at 3oz the most for $22? The meat was also undercooked! I was very disappointed. Tried it again, I love the atmosphere and they make a good Martini however it would be wonderful if they would carry Belvedere or at least Ketel One to make a dirty martini. They served me a sirloin that was supposed to be a Wagner Rib Eye not cool any other person maybe wouldn't notice but definitely mark up is higher. It is seasoned well but much tougher meat. If you want a better clientele start serving a better quit cutting costs or just stop all this reserved tabled crap and high class stuff. Attacked on Beckets patio June 30th 2024. Sunday June 30th 2024 at approximately 245 my Wife and I stopped with our 4 month old puppy. We came VIA boat and as my wife completed securing the boat I took the puppy onto the patio at Beckets completely secured under my control with a leash and harness. Moments later chaos ensued. An irresponsible dog owners lack of care resulted in their dog attacking myself and my 4 month old puppy. I was knocked to the ground fighting to get the animal off of me at the same time trying to protect my puppy. The dog owner, in his intoxicated state came over and started yelling at myself and wife for attempting to neutralize the threat. The dog owner continue to cuss and in a threatening stance attempted to provoke my wife and I into an additional confrontation. The staff at Beckets clearly saw this situation unfold. Beckets staff clearly does not know how to properly respond when one of their patrons is attacked and in distress. I asked our server why the dog owner was allowed to stay and the only answer I received was "he said he's getting ready to leave". Which he clearly wasn't as he was sitting and laughing with his friend. The server kept telling me the dog got off the leash appearing to fish for an excuse as to the establishments lack of response to me getting attacked. I asked for a manager and the server just kept repeating the dog got off their leash. They never called authorities or render any support to myself, wife or dog. I was injured with a 2 inch laceration and my dog had a cut under her eye. With the situation being so volatile and the staff clearly unable to respond appropriately to the situation I left the area and called the police to make a report. My previous experiences have all been without question spectacular but seeing how they respond to a patron being attacked I find it difficulty to consider going back. Do better. read more

So we came here for my sisters graduation and have had good food here before. We started off with some drinks hand muddled old fashions pretty good. We then moved on to appetizers cheese curds were mediocre not great but not the worst. The came the dinners the wife had a walnut burger she said it was pretty mushy not great meats better. I had ribs it was good for the first rib then working my way through Every bone was shattered with bone fragments throughout. This left the top quarter the only eatable portion. The food was ok but not great. I got the shaved ribeye sandwich. My wife got the swordfish. It said seared on the menu but came with a light batter like it was deep fried. She sent it back and it came back broiled. It took a long time for food to arrive. Our drinks (water) were never refilled and the server essentially disappeared till she asked if we needed boxes. It was a struggle to get her attention for the issue with the fish. The view was great and the layout was very nice. They have a firepit table in the restaurant. I recently attended a wedding ceremony and reception that was held here and I was not impressed. My biggest concern was all the steps in the dining/dancing area. There were at least four or five gradual platforms/steps that really raised a flag of potential personal injury liability. The place was decorated beautifully and the bartender made a mean old fashioned sweet. I just was really bothered by the whole stair situation. read more
