I loved this place so much!…read more It's quirky, it's nostalgic, it's fun. We were there for lunch, so no live music, but there is a full calendar of acts. The food was fantastic! The sweet potato casserole was the best I've had, and the potato salad was fully loaded. Loved the sauce varieties, and had the mud pie for dessert which was scrumptious. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Lots of seating, lots of parking, lots to do...gift shop, glamping, the bayou, and of course "the poo with a view", lol.

We'd heard so much about this place and couldn't wait to try it. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment from the moment we walked in. The woman taking our order seemed irritated that we were asking questions about the menu. She wasn't friendly or welcoming at all. As for the food... save yourself the trip. It was so bad we threw almost all of it away. I didn't even think to take pictures because we were too shocked at how terrible everything was. We ordered a rack of ribs, brisket, and two sausages. Every single meat was extremely dry and overcooked. The ribs were so dry they felt like eating beef jerky covered in BBQ sauce. The brisket was the same--dry with BBQ sauce poured over it. The sausages were overcooked, dry, and honestly tasted more like Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage than barbecue. The sides were the only decent part of the meal. The mac and cheese was okay, but the collard greens were the standout. They were the only thing I actually finished. It honestly felt like everything was smothered in BBQ sauce to hide how dry and overcooked the meat was. Whoever is running the pit seriously needs to reevaluate the cooking process. We definitely won't be back. I only wish we'd kept driving and stopped somewhere else.

Been wanting to stop in at Roger's and check them out for ages but always seem to have timing…read moreconflicts. I was finally able to make a point of making a special trip over there on a Saturday late afternoon. Unfortunately it still wasn't the best timing for a first trip or making a review as we were limited to what we could order based on the fact that their hours state they close at 5 but they shut the kitchen down at 4:30 and we got there just after 4. It's hard going out for dinner to a place that closes at 4:30. I ordered a sausage sandwich which to my delight was not the monotonous Conecuh. It was really good and reminiscent of some of the whole in the wall places in Texas that does good sausage. The only draw back was that being near closing time they didn't have links but was able to do slices. It was good but hard to eat. My hubs got chicken and ribs. I liked the ribs... they still had some bite, tender but not falling apart, and the smoke is mild, not overkill like so many other places do. Hubs wasn't a huge fan of but I thought they were nice. The chicken was on the dry side, but I never go to a bbq joint to order chicken so it's not a deal breaker for me. The only major downer was that all of our sides seemed to be standard pre-made and ordered items, not made in-house. I also liked the hole in the wall vibe, the friendly staff, and the divine smoke aroma that lets you know you're in the right bbq joint. All in all I enjoyed their Q and will need to go back when I can get the timing right to sample their steam table offerings.

Overall, I'd give the experience a solid 4 out of 5. The ribs were the highlight -- flavorful, tender, and had a satisfying bite without being fall-off-the-bone (which I actually prefer). They also gave a good portion, which made it feel like a great value. I'd rate them a 4.5/5 for sure. The sides were a bit underwhelming. The mac and cheese was decent but nothing special. The baked beans were flavorful but still tasted like they just added some onions and peppers to a can of beans. I'd give the sides a 3/5. Service was decent for a pickup order. The woman who took my call didn't sound particularly thrilled, but she got the job done efficiently. 4/5 for service. The ambiance, based on what I saw while picking up, fits the classic country BBQ vibe. Cozy and no-frills in a good way. Clean and authentic. I'd say 4.5/5. I'd definitely come back, especially to try the buffet next time. There's more on the menu I'm curious about.
